D/P Dodrio .

I felt the Dodrio analysis was worded for OU too much and I redid the entire analysis. I added a new set to the Dodrio analysis, as well as change the set comments and counters/other options section. I also tweaked the sets a bit.

original analysis: http://www.smogon.com/dp/pokemon/dodrio

[SET]
Name: Choice Band
Move 1: Return
Move 2: Brave Bird
Move 3: Pursuit / Payback
Move 4: Quick Attack
Item: Choice Band
Nature: Jolly
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Dodrio's most powerful set is undoubtedly the Choice Band set. Dodrio's naturally high Speed and Attack creates a dangerous threat in UU, especially when a Choice Band is attached. With a Choice Band, Dodrio can easily OHKO or 2HKO the most premiere walls in UU, such as Drapion, Leafeon, and Sandslash. Pursuit is helpful for catching anything off-guard that tries to switch out. Pursuit also provides a Super effective hit on Rotom, a Pokemon who has a resistance and an immunity to Brave Bird and Return, respectively. Payback may be what you need to finish off these opponents, therefore in many cases, Payback is the better option. Quick Attack can be used to finish off any Pokemon holding Focus Sash, as well as opposing Flailers/Reversalers who rely on having low health.

A Jolly Nature allows you to outpace threats such as Leafeon, Rotom, and Hitmonlee.

[SET]
name: Choice Scarf
move 1: Brave Bird
move 2: Return
move 3: Payback / Pursuit
move 4: Flail
item: Choice Scarf
ability: Early Bird
nature: Adamant
evs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe

Dodrio can also effectively abuse Choice Scarf which turns Dodrio into one of the fastest Pokemon in UU. The goal is to switch into Stealth Rock multiple times to lower your HP, as well as use Brave Bird to drastically lower your HP. Then, begin to use Flail and hope that you can OHKO as much as you can. Once again Payback or Pursuit is for Ghost-types who can ruin this strategy. Return is a solid attack if Flail is not going to work.

[SET]
Name: Flail
Move 1: Flail
Move 2: Substitute / Endure
Move 3: Faint Attack
Move 4: Agility
Item: Liechi Berry
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 12 HP / 252 Atk / 244 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Although not as dangerous as the Choice set, Sub/Endure-Flailing is a solid strategy for Dodrio. The basic idea is to simply use Substitute or Endure to get your HP as low as you can. Then proceed to use Flail, and when faced with Ghost-types, Faint Attack. Substitute is recommended over Endure as it can block status such as paralysis and burn, as well as open up an opportunity to use Agility.

Agility and Liechi Berry can be replaced Endeavor and Salac Berry, respectively. However, Agility and Liechi Berry net you an Attack and Speed boost which can prove to be devestating to opponents.

[SET]
Name: Baton Pass
Move 1: Baton Pass
Move 2: Acupressure / Agility
Move 3: Taunt
Move 4: Drill Peck / Return
Item: Focus Sash
Nature: Jolly
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

The only goal of this set is to simply use Agility or Acupressue right away and Baton Pass to a recipient. Focus Sash guarantees safety, almost promising you a successful stat boost and Baton Pass. Taunt allows you to fend off phazers such as Steelix, Drapion, and Leafeon. Drill Peck is helpful for taking out any Grass-type Pokemon that may Leech Seed you, hurting your potential Baton Pass chain.

Acupressure is a great move as it seperates Dodrio from other Baton Passers, as well as can help you in a tight spot. Acupressure can give you a boost in any stat meaning you could get a Special Attack boost to pass or a Defense boost. If you are looking for a more consistent stat boosting move, Agility provides a +2 Speed all the time.

[OTHER OPTIONS]

Haze can be used alongside Roost to create a bulkier Dodrio, however it won't survive much leaving it better off to other Pokemon. Steel Wing and Hidden Power Fighting can be used for Rock and Steel-types although it won't accomplish much. Mirror Move is very interesting for switching into Ground-type attacks and bouncing them back. Roost can be used in tandem with Brave Bird, however Dodrio is frail defensively, meaning it won't be easy to pull off.

[EVS]

Dodrio will need max Attack and Speed on most sets, although you must make sure that your HP ends in an odd number to ensure you survive 4 switch-ins to Stealth Rock.

[OPINION]

Although Dodrio is outclassed by Staraptor it still makes a fantastic Pokemon to use in UU. Flail, Baton Pass, and Taunt are exclusive to Dodrio, so try to use those attacks if possible. However the Choice set provides so much power that it is hard to pass it up. Unlike Swellow, Dodrio does not need to have a status infliction as well as waste a moveslot on Protect. It hits hard and fast enough to make it a solid choice for your UU team.

[COUNTERS]

Any and all Steel-types will completely stop Dodrio. Rock-types such as Golem and Relicanth also take it down. Dodrio will want to avoid these Pokemon at all costs. Brave Bird and Stealth Rock will quickly weak down Dodrio.

How does it look? Feel free to post any revisions, changes, and questions you have about the analysis. thanks.

Please proofread your peer edit again, I corrected all the errors in the PM, but it doesn't look like you included some of the corrections... Eg. Your spelling of "conveniently" is really off. You also didn't really include any apostrophes at all for "Dodrio's". I also don't really know what a "recipitant" is, but I do know what a "recipient" is. :P

Please look at my PM again with all of the bolded parts, because those were spelling/grammar/punctuation corrections that really need to be there. :(

When you're proofreading, actually read it out loud to yourself, and correct it that way. That's what I did. I'll correct anything else once I'm sure you've completely proofread this.

As for stuff that you added after the PM:

Be sure to note that if you use Mirror Move in place of Hidden Power, make sure to use an Adamant or Jolly Nature as there is no need to lower your Defense instead of your Special Attack.

Acupressure can be used in place of Agility on the Baton Pass set, however you might get a stat boost you don't want.
Instead of sounding negative, how about saying what can take advantage of the potential boosts that you might get? Eg. If you get a Defense boost, it might help blah blah blah, however, a Special Defense boost might help bling bling bling. An Attack boost can be passed to blah blah who can't raise their Attack otherwise, and the same thing for Special Attack and Speed boosts. If it's got the Focus Sash, it's still got a pretty good chance of passing those boosts to whatever you want. Hell, even Accuracy boosts can help a lot.

I'll look at more when I get home, but I'm going out for now.

shoot I pasted the wrong one. gah lemme upload the one bologo helped me on. ;_; sorry this wasnt the revised copy.

[SET]
Name: Choice Band / Choice Scarf
Move 1: Return
Move 2: Brave Bird
Move 3: Pursuit / Quick Attack / Baton Pass
Move 4: Hidden Power Fighting / Mirror Move
Item: Choice Band / Choice Scarf
Nature: Lonely / Hasty
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Dodrio's most powerful set is undoubtedly the Choice set. Dodrios naturally high Speed and Attack creates a dangerous presence (threat seems better than presence) in UU play (omit play), especially when a Choice Band or Choice Scarf is attached. When attached with a Choice Band, Dodrio can easily OHKO or 2HKO the most premiere walls in UU, such as Drapion, Leafeon, and Sandslash. Pursuit is helpful for catching anything off-guard that tries to switch out (the rest wasn't needed). Pursuit also provides a super effective hit on Rotom, a Pokemon who has a resistance and immunity to Brave Bird and Return, respectively. Quick Attack can be used to finish off any Pokemon holding Focus Sash, as well as opposing Flailers/Reversalers who rely on having low health. Baton Pass allows easy and quick access to escape counters, as well as the ability to scout. The last attack will be used to cover the Steel or Rock-types who will commonly counter Dodrio otherwise. Hidden Power Fighting allows you an attack that can hurt incoming Aggron and Steelix that may try to stop the triple-headed bird. If you are feeling confident you can try out Mirror Move. Switch in on a Steel or Rock-type Pokemon using Earthquake and Mirror Move it to OHKO them.

Be sure to note that if you use Mirror Move in place of Hidden Power, make sure to use an Adamant or Jolly Nature as there is no need to lower your Defense instead of your Special Attack.

Some of the stuff I wasn't certain of, I didn't comment on.

[SET]
Name: Flail
Move 1: Flail
Move 2: Substitute / Endure
Move 3: Drill Peck
Move 4: Endeavor / Natural Gift
Item: Salac Berry
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 12 HP / 252 Atk / 244 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Although not as dangerous as the Choice set, Sub/Endure-Flailing is a solid strategy for Dodrio. The basic idea is to simply use Substitute or Endure to get your HP as low as you can. Then proceed to use Flail, and when faced with Ghost-types, Drill Peck. Endeavor is an excellent option since Substitute or Endure will lower your HP hopefully to 1 HP. It also allows you to bring down any Steel-types or Rock-types who will end up walling the set beyond use. However if you would rather have a more solid way of killing them and want to have a back-up plan for Salac-Flailing failing, Natural Gift with the Salac Berry provides a base 80 Fighting Type attack. Be warned; once you use Natural Gift, the Salac Berry can not be used to raise your Speed.

Agility and Leichi Berry can replace Endeavor and Salac Berry, respectively. However, thanks to Dodrio's rather frail self, it will be hard-pressed to survive attacks and find time to use Agility.

[SET]
Name: Baton Pass
Move 1: Baton Pass
Move 2: Agility
Move 3: Taunt
Move 4: Drill Peck
Item: Focus Sash
Nature: Jolly
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

The only goal of this set is to simply Agility right away and Baton Pass to a recipient. Focus Sash guarantees safety, almost guaranteeing a successful Agility and Baton Pass. Taunt allows a successful way to fend off phazers such as Steelix, Drapion, and Leafeon. Drill Peck is helpful for taking out any Grass-type Pokemon that may Leech Seed you, hurting your potential Baton Pass chain.

[SET]
Name: Kamikaze
Move 1: Brave Bird
Move 2: Double-Edge
Move 3: Hidden Power Fighting / Mirror Move
Move 4: Roost
Item: Leftovers / Life Orb
Nature: Jolly / Hasty
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Similar to the Choice set, however this offers 2 options the Choice set does not; freedom of attacks and a reliable healing move to recover off damage from Brave Bird and Double-Edge. This Dodrio is meant to stay in as long as possible wrecking havoc, therefore Hidden Power Fighting should be used to deal with all Rock and Steel-type Pokemon. However, most Steel and Rock-type Pokemon have access to Earthquake, meaning you can switch in on a predicted Earthquake and Mirror Move it back to inflict an easy OHKO.

[OTHER OPTIONS]

Haze can be used with Roost to create a bulkier Dodrio, however it won't survive much leaving it better off to other Pokemon. Acupressure can be used in place of Agility on the Baton Pass set, however you might get a stat boost you don't want.

[EVS]

Dodrio will usually want max Attack and Speed, however it is not needed for the Baton Pass set as a bit of HP will help you very much.

He already hits hard and fast enough making him a solid choice for your UU team.

[COUNTERS]

As long as Dodrio lacks Hidden Power Fighting or Mirror Move, most Steel-types will stop Dodrio cold. Rotom is a decent counter, resisting Dodrios main attacks, as well as OHKOing with Thunderbolt. However Rotom is 2HKOed by Choice Band Brave Bird, and must be weary of Pursuit and Payback. Other ghosts such as Drifblim also have this advantage as they can easily burn Dodrio with Will-O-Wisp. Most priority users can handle Dodrio thanks to somewhat frail defensive stats.

How does it look? Feel free to post any revisions, changes, and questions you have about the analysis. thanks.
I agree with Bologo here, you have to proofread your work before you submit it.

Dodrio's most powerful set is undoubtedly the Choice set. Dodrios naturally high Speed and Attack create a dangerous presence in UU play, especially when combined with Choice Band or Choice Scarf. With a Choice Band, Dodrio can easily OHKO or 2HKO the most premier walls in UU, such as Drapion, Leafeon, and Sandslash. Pursuit is helpful for catching fleeing opponents on the switch. Pursuit also provides a Super effective hit on Rotom, a Pokemon who (deleted) resists Brave Bird and is immune to Return. Quick Attack can be used to finish off any Pokemon holding Focus Sash, as well as opposing Flailers/Reversalers who rely on having low health. Baton Pass allows Dodrio to escape counters and scout the opponent's team. The last attack is used to hit the Steel or Rock-types who will commonly counter Dodrio (deleted). Hidden Power Fighting hurts incoming Aggron and Steelix hoping to stop the triplehead bird. If you are feeling confident you can try out Mirror Move. Switch in on a Steel or Rock-type Pokemon using Earthquake and Mirror Move it to hit them for Super-Effective damage.

Be sure to note that if you use Mirror Move in place of Hidden Power, that an Adamant or Jolly nature is preferred as there is no need to lower your defense instead of your Special Attack.

Agility and Leichi Berry can replace Endeavor and Salac Berry, respectively. However, because Dodrio is rather frail, it will be hard-pressed to survive attacks and find time to use Agility.

Haze can be used alongside Roost to create a bulkier Dodrio. However, due to Dodrio's low survivability, this set is better left to other Pokemon. Acupressure can be used in place of Agility on the Baton Pass set, however it is possible to get an unneeded stat boost.

[EVS]

Dodrio will usually want max Attack and Speed. On the Baton Pass set, Dodrio wants more HP to aid in the passing process.

Fixed lots of things.

One thing I noticed, is that Earthquake will not be 1HKOing Steelix, so I just changed that to "hits for Super-Effective damage."

Actually I had a revised copy with everything fixed but didnt post it and instead accidently posted the original bad copy. I fixed all the mistakes and put in some of sikhs and stellars suggestions.

[SET]
name: Choice Band
move 1: Brave Bird
move 2: Return
move 3: Payback / Pursuit
move 4: Quick Attack
item: Choice Band
ability: Early Bird
nature: Jolly
evs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe

The current listing has too many slashes. Mirror Move and HP Fighting are Other Options material. They are just too unreliable (Mirror Move) or too weak (HP Fighting) Payback hits Solrock, Lunatone and Rotom harder than anything else, and it takes out other Ghosts switching in without having to suffer the recoil of Brave Bird. Quick Attack and the Dark moves are incredibly useful, especially the priority move.

Mention that Jolly means you outrun Rotom, Hitmonlee and Leafeon.

[SET]
name: Choice Scarf
move 1: Brave Bird
move 2: Return
move 3: Payback / Pursuit
move 4: Flail
item: Choice Scarf
ability: Early Bird
nature: Adamant
evs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe

Flail comes into play when Stealth Rock and recoil from Brave Bird take their toll.

[SET]
name: Flail Sweeper
move 1: Flail
move 2: Substitute / Endure
move 3: Faint Attack
move 4: Agility
item: Liechi Berry
nature: Adamant
evs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe

Faint Attack should be used over Drill Peck as it does more to Rotom. The only Ghost outside of OU that Drill Peck hurts more than Faint Attack is Sableye, who is rarely used, especially compared to Rotom. Emphasize Sub since it can save you from a priority move if you keep it up.

[SET]
name: Endeavor
move 1: Substitute
move 2: Baton Pass
move 3: Endeavor
move 4: Flail
item: Salac Berry
nature: Adamant
evs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe

This makes much better use of Endeavor. BP Subs around while your counters are still alive (Steelix Roars you out, but that isn't a big deal), Endeavor when your HP is low then sweep with Flail, or BP a Sub and/or Salac boost if you didn't get rid of Ghosts, Steels (have to get rid of Roar Steelix though), etc. You could use Drill Peck or Quick Attack, but Flail can kill things in one turn, whereas Endeavor usually requires two. Starf Berry is good too.

[SET]
name: Baton Pass
move 1: Acupressure / Agility
move 2: Baton Pass
move 3: Taunt
move 4: Drill Peck / Return
item: Leftovers
nature: Jolly
evs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 Spe

From Other Options: "Acupressure can be used in place of Agility on the Baton Pass set, however you might get a stat boost you don't want."

I don't understand this at all. Acupressure is Dodrio's big advantage over other Baton Passers and should be exploited. Regardless of which stat it boosts, you can find a team member who will be glad to accept it. Return should be listed for a more powerful STAB move, since it hurts Electrics, like Manectric. Focus Sash is a bit unreliable unless you plan to lead with Dodrio. Leftovers is a better choice for multiple pass attempts.

[Other Options]
Steel Wing, Mirror Move, HP Fighting (only does decent damage to Aggron), Haze, Roost.

[EVs]
Mention that HP should always be odd for Stealth Rock.

[Counters]

As long as Dodrio lacks Hidden Power Fighting or Mirror Move, most Steel-types will stop Dodrio cold. Rotom is a decent counter, resisting Dodrio's main attacks, as well as OHKOing with Thunderbolt. However Rotom is 2HKOed by Choice Band Brave Bird, and must be wary of Pursuit and Payback. Other ghosts such as Drifblim also have this advantage as they can easily burn Dodrio with Will-O-Wisp. Most priority users can handle Dodrio thanks to somewhat frail defensive stats.

Steels types will almost always beat Dodrio regardless of HP Fighting and Mirror Move, only Aggron takes acceptable damage from HP Fighting.

Drifblim can't easily burn Dodrio, because it's slower and dies to Brave Bird or Payback.

Rocks like Golem and Relicanth should be listed.

Mention that Brave Bird and Stealth Rock tend to wear him down quickly.

Phuquoph - I'm sorry, but that BP Dodrio is missing something, I don't know what. Oh, thats it - its missing a great move in Baton Pass, lol.

[SET]
name: Baton Pass
move 1: Acupressure / Agility
move 2: Baton Pass
move 3: Taunt
move 4: Drill Peck / Return
item: Leftovers
nature: Jolly
evs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 Spe

Thats fixed - enjoy.

Also, I have news for you - Double Edge + Brave Bird = illegal. Double-Edge is a tutor, and brave bird is an egg move. Sorry.

No one expects BP Dodrio without BP, it's a surprise set.

I forgot about that "Kamikaze" set too. Besides the illegal moveset (which is also mentioned in the current analysis), I'm not seeing how it isn't just an inferior Swellow. Swellow is more powerful with Toxic Orb and Facade, plus it is much faster.

Kamikaze set removed, all changes made.

Pretty much took everything Phuquoph said and used it to redo the analysis. Any other changes or is it good.
