Defensive Marshtomp

[OVERVIEW]
  • Marshtomp is the next best thing we have to Quagsire, whom we lost to OU recently.
  • Although lacking a reliable recovery move and unaware, it has access to something Quag did not: Stealth Rocks.
  • Marshtomp is surprisingly bulky if used correctly and can stand up to hits quite well.
  • With it's immunity to electric and only one weakness (grass), there's a lot to like about Marshtomp.
  • If used incorrectly, it can easily be taken out by grass types or strong special attackers.

Moves
=======
  • Scald allows Marshtomp to cripple physical attackers with the chance of burn. It also proves as a decent attack in some situations like against Archeops as it 2hko's it after rocks damage.
  • Earthquake is here for good STAB coverage and it packs quite a punch. It allows Marshtomp to hit for more damage than scald and gives extra type coverage.
  • Stealth Rock is here for obvious reasons. It wears down teams over time and is necessary on almost all teams. It is very good at crippling flying types such as Archeops.
  • Multiple moves can be used in this last slot. Yawn forces common switch-ins like Ludicolo or Shiftry to switch out or fall asleep the next turn. Toxic can be used to wear down common walls such as opposing Marshtomps and Rotom-Fan.
Set Details
=======

  • 252 in both HP and Defense maximizes Marshtomps bulk allowing it to be a decent switch in to physical attackers.
  • The 4 evs in speed do serve a purpose. They are there to creep on common base 50 speed Pokemon such as Mega Audino and Golurk.
  • The impish nature further enhances Marshtomps bulk allowing it to take physical hits even better. The loss in Spa is irrelevant as scald is only used for burn purposes.
  • Eviolite gives a boost in both defense and spd which is necessary to take hits well.
  • Damp is used over torrent to prevent explosions and aftermath damage from Skuntank.
Usage Tips
=======
  • Marshtomp should be used to counter strong physical attackers and should stay away from grass types and special attackers.

Welcome to Smogon! If you wish to contribute by writing an analysis, it is paramount to read these rules beforehand: http://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/welcome-to-c-c-a-beginners-guide-to-contributing.3500343/

Unfortunately, you have already broken the first rule, as you're attempting to write an analysis about a Pokemon not in the NU C&C's unreserved list, meaning it is not up for grabs in the first place. This rule is to keep people from randomly starting to write up analyses for obscure Pokemon such as Watchog, Chimecho, Wormadam, Feebas, and whatnot.

Meanwhile, writing an analysis for a Pokemon for the sake of being a "replacement" for a former NU Pokemon is really flawed, especially when the Pokemon hardly replicates the Pokemon's role effectively (Marshtomp lacks both Unaware and recovery, aka the primary reasons to use Quag in the first place); Gastrodon is a closer comparison to Quagsire but that is besides the point. Sometimes we just have to accept that we may lose a mon with a unique niche and there is no real replacement for it (people did not use Palpitoad as a replacement for Seismitoad when it left NU).

Unfortunately, this thread will be locked down soon enough, due to breaking rules and not fulfilling several criteria. It's not that your effort is not appreciated, but be a bit more familiar with the system before starting any threads of your own.

Basically what Punchshroom said. After you give yourself time to read over the rules and wish to write an analysis in the future, feel free to look in this thread here: http://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/oras-nu-c-c-index-2-0.3544608

That thread is where you can find the current list of available Pokemon, as well as some helpful resources for getting started. Again, welcome to smogon and don't take this as discouragement from contributing.
