Overview
########
Diancie is primarily used as an utility pokemon. It has an unique Rock / Fairy typing, which allows it to check huge threats in the metagame such as Rayquaza and Ho-Oh. Diancie has access to Stealth Rock, Trick Room, and Toxic. Unfortuantely, Diancie lacks reliable recovery, so it can be easily worn down. Also, it has many weaknesses such as water and steel types which have to be mitigated by teammates. Despite of these shortcomings, Diancie can fill a specialized role that some teams may need.

move 2: Toxic
move 3: Protect
move 4: Diamond Storm
ability: Clear Body
items: Leftovers
evs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 Atk
nature: Impish
Moves
========
The combination of Toxic, Protect, and Stealth Rock allows you to punish Defog Arceus, which tends to come in to clear the hazards. Set up Stealth Rock, then you can Toxic Arceus freely. Use Protect to accumulate Toxic damage and get some HP back from Leftovers. Toxic is useful for stopping set up attempts and shorten the opponent's longevity. Combined with Stealth Rock, it can be just enough to push your opponent over the edge. Protect can be used to lure High Jump Kick Blaziken, and causes Blaziken to crash for 50% damage if it uses High Jump Kick. Diamond Storm is a reliable STAB move that allows you to always beat Shadow Tag users such as Mega Gengar and Gothitelle. Also, it allows Diancie to do something when it's Taunted by an offensive Yveltal on the switch.
Set Details
========
The nature and EVs are used to maximize the defensive bulk to tank hits from Ho-Oh and Rayquaza. As Yveltal does a pittance to physically defensive Diancie, there is no real reason to invest in special bulk.
Usage Tips
========
The goal of this set is to set Stealth Rock up and spread Toxic. Don't lead with Diancie as it's rather obvious and lures Water types. As such, it's recommended to save it in until something that Diancie can check switches in. Then, you can proceed to set up rocks and Toxic with ease. You should Toxic obvious Defog switch ins such as Giratina-O and Arceus formes. Liberal use of Protect is encouraged to replenish health and scout opponent's movesets. Beware of Excadrill, as it hard-counters and uses Rapid Spins against Diancie. Try to keep Diancie away from status, as its the health will be easily chipped away.
Team Options
========
It is important to pair Diancie with clerics to mitigate the status conditions that cut Diancie's longevity. Blissey is an ideal cleric that can be paired with Diancie. Blissey can easily Heal Bell and Wishpass for Diancie, while checking some of the water types that troubles Diancie. Fairy clerics such as Sylveon and Xerneas can be used for similar role. However, you need to keep in the mind that there's a type redundancy in this case. Specially Defensive Kyogre can easily absorb status and check Steel- and Water- types. Arceus-Grass is an excellent check for Water- and Ground- types, so it can be considered as a part of defensive core with Diancie. Gliscor and Landorus-Therian are strong Ground- type checks, and double up with Diancie to check Ho-Oh and Rayquaza. Also, Stealth Rock on Diancie frees up a slot for Gliscor and Landorus-Therian, allowing them to run an unique moveset. Hidden Power Ice Groudon is an effective lure which lures in Ground-types and smacks them with super effective damage, and acts as a good Ground-type switch-in. It also provides sun, which weakens Water-type moves. Ho-Oh nukes the Steel-types that plague Diancie. Ghost types such as Giratina-O and Arceus-Ghost benefits from Diancie's ability to check Yveltal reliably. Generally, Diancie performs the best on stall or offensive teams. Stall teams benefits from Diancie's unique typing which allows it to check some of best stallbreakers in metagame. Offense benefits from Diancie's access to Stealth Rock and Toxic.
Trick Room
########
name: Trick Room
Move 1: Trick Room
Move 2: Stealth Rock
Move 3: Diamond Storm
Move 4: Explosion
ability: Clear Body
Items: Normal Gem / Life Orb
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 Def
Nature: Brave
Moves
========
Trick Room is the main move of this set. Stealth Rock is on the set for general support. Diamond Storm targets Ho-Oh and Yveltal, which are major threats versus Trick Room teams. Explosion allows Diancie to set up Trick Room, then inflict massive damage and give the Trick Room sweeper a reliable switch in. Normal Gem Explosion is deceptively strong: it can OHKO offensive Palkia and Kyogre. However, bulky Arceus can take an Explosion, so beware of that.
Set Details
========
Maximum HP used is to ensure that Diancie can survive just long enough to set rocks and Trick Room. Maximum Attack is used to maintain offensive momentum, and to inflict maximum damage with Explosion and Diamond Storm.
Usage Tips
========
The major niche that Diancie possesses for Trick Room teams is that it's not weak to Ho-Oh and Yveltal. As such, when opponent gets one of them in, you can easily set up Trick Room on them. If Yveltal Taunts you, then you can just use Diamond Storm. Diancie can set up Trick Room on non-Taunt Mewtwo as well. If opponent switches in a Ghost-type, then switch out, as you're unable to do anything. When Diancie has done its job, it should use Explosion.
Team Options
========
This Diancie set should be only used in Trick Room teams. Due to this, Diancie's ideal teammates are the usual Trick Room pokemon such as Victini, Palkia, and Dialga. Diancie appreciates Pokemon that are immune to Ground too: Giratina-Origin is a good example for one of these.
Other Options
########
Diancie can use Rest to maximize longevity and alleviate the status. Sleep Talk could be used in conjunction; however, it's unlikely that RestTalk would be useful on Diancie. Hidden Power Fire can be used to punish Steel-type switch-ins; however, it's not too terribly strong. Similarly, Hidden Power Ice can lure Ground-types and hit them. Moonblast is an option for a strong Fairy STAB move. Rock Tomb lowers the Speed of switch-ins, which allows you to easily revenge kill or check them if necessary. Shuca Berry and Air Balloon can be used to reduce the ground weakness.
Checks & Counters
########
**Excadrill** Excadrill is able to tank any hits from Diancie, then proceed to OHKO with Iron Head. Alternatively, it can simply Rapid Spin the hazards away freely on Diancie. Furthermore, Excadrill is immune to Toxic.
**Gliscor** Gliscor shrugs off any damage and is immune to Toxic. It can Taunt Diancie and make it useless.
**Steel-types** Steel-types hit Diancie super effectively; their hits are enough to OHKO Diancie. Also, Steel-types are immune to Toxic and resist Explosion. Most Steel-types can force Diancie out and set their own hazards up or do something else. Scizor is a good example. Scizor can easily Defog or U-turn for momentum on Diancie.
**Ground-types** Ground-types resist Rock-type moves and threaten Diancie with their STAB moves. However, they are crippled by Toxic.
**Water-types** Like Ground-types, they can easily come in and threaten with their attacks. It's important to keep in the mind that Toxic can be deadly for Water-types.
**Ghost-types** Ghost-types threaten Trick Room Diancie the most. They can tank Diamond Storms easily, and are immune to Explosion. However, Mega Gengar does not handle Diancie well at all.
**Defensive Mewtwo** Mewtwo can simply use Taunt and burns Diancie and can cripple it permanently. Mewtwo is one of few Taunt users that matches up well versus Diancie.Bear in mind that Mewtwo hates Toxic, so be careful when switching it in.
**Poison Arceus** Diancie is unable to do anything against Poison Arceus. As such, Poison Arceus can set up Calm Mind, spread burns, or remove hazards with Defog.
