Top 8 isn't bad, I guess. Thanks to everyone who supported me throughout the season! Have the imports for my invites teams:

Basically got too caught up with VGC 18 release and PTCGO, and I hadn't played much since Snake ended, so I kind of ported one of the VGC 18 teams I'd made and liked into DOU. Manectric was a last-minute addition because I had no Mega and wanted something for that slot, but it turned out really well.

I built a second team for Demantoid at 2am the morning of the game, so by the time I woke up I decided that it was probably a better idea to just bring a team that had actually worked previously. I added Stomping Tantrum to my Snake Finals team, which I liked a lot, and went from there.

Yellow Paint's teams always struck me as rather HO so I figured I could probably get a quick 6-5 advantage with an early game Scarf Hoopa-U. Never got to really use it because of circumstances but I don't regret bringing it.

I guess I never got around to posting my DOU team, most people know what it is, I dont really change much up, make a few alterations after the introduction of USUM, but nothing major. I dont play DOU much anymore on a consistent basis, havent for a while now, just never posted my team, I would like to see the team live on though if i can, or at the least maybe one or two of the mons, i have really grown to appreciate this team and I wish you all the best in using it.

This team and its variants were originally borne after the Mega-Kang ban and a few mons and moves and especially the EVs have changed over time, but its still basically the same.

Team Breakdown:

Mega Metagross I doubt needs much explaining, the use of steel types in the DOU format is almost necessary, with the introduction of USUM I changed brick break to stomping tantrum since it is a much better move to accomplish the same task I had been using brick break for, which is basically a coverage move against pokemon that check metagross.

Tyranitar is overall a great check to about the half of TR setters that metagross or lele cant cover, its z move isnt resisted by too many pokemon, rock slide was selected after having stone edge for a long time because it gives access to another spread move with a chance to flinch, low kick is a solid check against heatran, snorlax, tyranitar, and ferrothorn, the speed ev is to outspeed mega meta under tailwind

Zapdos is both an offensive and defensive threat with tailwind at its disposal and most the EVs being put into HP along with having a berry, but it can also dish out some pretty nice hits as well , the speed ev is to outspeed scarf garchomp under tailwind, it was originally to outspeed scarf base 100 mons which includes one speed boost mega blaziken, but after seeing a couple scarf garchomp, it was 4 EV to outspeed garchomp so I decided to. Detect isnt necessary, but I prefer it because it allows to save zapdos and control the speed of the game better

Suicune overall is just a bulky tailwind setter, its great for setting up tailwinds in sand and rain, it can also hit decently and get burns if not paid attention to. The EV spread is max HP, speed to outspeed scarf landorus under tailwind, sp att investment is to take out bulkier salamence and some less bulky zygarde, roar is a great check against pokemon who are setting up, are a poor matchup for the partner mon at the end of tailwind and to switch trick room users out when you dont have the proper pokemon to deal with it on the field, it really just shifts the momentum, also it now gets inner focus

Amoongus soaks up hits and puts pokemon to sleep, thats really its whole job. Giga drain helps to keep a solid matchup against tapu fini and swampert, hidden power fire is new, its really because tailwind kartana is tough to deal with since it can get around rage powder. Its great for dealing with the trick room. The EV spread is pretty simple, 420 HP because well it should be obvious, its a multiple of 4, basically it takes all hits so it would be silly to EV for specific mons, basically I just made it bulky, the berry is new, i prefer it because it gives alot of hp at one time if i need to stay in with amoongus and cant switch it out for regenerator

Tapu lele is both the best and worst pokemon on the team, it supports metagross with psychic terrain, its decently fast without tailwind and it hits hard, but its also weak as crap and dies all the time, the EV spread may seem a bit odd, its so it can survive kingdra/ludicolo hydro vortex from a hydro pump when not in rain (so sandstorm usually), dazzling gleam has always been the move i prefer on lele, its a strong spread move with life orb and can pick up the KO while also dealing some damage to the other mon, HP fire is for ferrothorn mainly, but it comes in handy a lot against scizor, aegislash, genesect, and sometimes even mega metagross

Basically this team is built to ride tailwind so it can outspeed mons, its bulky enough to deal with other teams that are tailwind reliant, it has plenty of techs to stop TR from being set up, and then amoongus as a last ditch option, it is a pretty fun team to use once you get used to it, and can and has sustained playing in just about any metagame with only slight adjustments as needed.

Best of luck : )

This is a team me and my old friend Futatsuiwa of Sado made at the beginning of Sun and Moon but with a bit of changes. With Marshadow now banned and a lot more mons not having protect this team is better then ever. The idea is to make Durant entrainment truant onto the opposing teams mons, trap them, then set up or attack on the truant turns while protecting on the turns the opponent could attack. Perish trap was added for when you think an opponent is going to double protect, since that's what most people will do if you have a Durant out and both of their mons can protect. Incineorar may look weird here but it was chosen for fake out to stall perish trap turns and to beat hoopa which is definitely the biggest threat for this team. Below is a bunch of replays to show how the team works.

Seems like Fightinium Scrafty directly outclasses Incineroar here. Not that I want to make that super frustrating team even better, but you should try it out and see if the Intimidate + Knock Off support helps.

Might as well make a team dump, though they might not be too user/ladder friendly. A lot of these are surprise sets designed to be used once and never again.

Saved this team for months. You beat this by bringing kyube or just doubling the hawlucha, but who on earth is gonna expect sturdy magic coat entrainment? Significantly better than the ladder version, but still a one-off gimmick. Theoried and tested with Nido.

Aura convinced me to use mega ttar, and I liked it quite a bit. This was originally an attempt to use suicune, but I caved and switched to zap. This team has a lot of my favorite mons and sets, so I use it often when I don't/can't prepare for opponents.

Just a megagross team, but of course I had to go and put a scarf volcanion on it. A vest or mago set would have helped me a lot in my match. The marsh spread came from marsh mirror paranoia, which evs to survive lo sneak.

No, this wasn't just for the memes. I was most afraid of frania's sand and tr, so I tried making a rain team with different matchups from traditional rain. Ludi helps a bunch with fake out and beating fini, while omastar hits much harder than kingdra while not suffering from the speed loss due to the lack of scarfers in the current meta. Ironically enough, this stomped frania's tr team, but managed to lose to sand.

Well, that was fun. I've been here forever and never really gotten this far in tours, so I'm glad I managed to shake off my luckynbad reputation. Cheers.

This team is based on the power of naganadel since it has excellent offensive statistics that will allow us to control the domain of the fairies in the metagame such as Fini, Koko, Lele, Bulu, etc. Supported by Aegi and Mega Gyarados that is also a very good wallbreaker, allowing full coverage, aegislash gives support to both the offensive and defensive part of the team and without leaving behind zapdos supports naganadel and lele with its speed control helps to overcome lele scarf and tapu koko giving opportunity to this incredible wallbreaker.

With the new seasonal starting right after the marsh suspect there seems to be a lack of public teams people could use in tournaments, so i decided to share a bunch of teams that helped me win last seasonal/invitational and get me to the finals of DLT II. Most of them are in a separate resource i posted on the forums, but heres two that didn't fit there, but i still think are worth using:

Thats the Scizor variant of the sand balance core i have started noting people like to run and i think its a very good one as it gives you a strong win condition in SD Excadrill, while keeping very good defensive synergies. Scizor fits in both categories and kind of brings the team together.
Scizor (F) @ Scizorite
Ability: Technician
EVs: 40 HP / 252 Atk / 216 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Bullet Punch
- Knock Off
- Swords Dance
- Protect

Tyranitar (F) @ Shuca Berry
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 236 Atk / 20 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Rock Slide
- Ice Beam
- Taunt
- Stealth Rock

Excadrill (F) @ Steelium Z
Ability: Sand Rush
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Iron Head
- Swords Dance
- Protect

Kyurem-Black @ Assault Vest
Ability: Teravolt
EVs: 248 HP / 4 Atk / 156 Def / 12 SpA / 88 Spe
Quiet Nature
- Ice Beam
- Icy Wind
- Earth Power
- Fusion Bolt

Zapdos @ Misty Seed
Ability: Static
EVs: 248 HP / 36 Def / 40 SpA / 184 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Thunderbolt
- Heat Wave
- Tailwind
- Roost

Tapu Fini @ Mago Berry
Ability: Misty Surge
EVs: 248 HP / 200 Def / 60 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Muddy Water
- Moonblast
- Heal Pulse
- Protect

Another Zor team, this time it focuses around its synergy with Zygarde, having Scrafty to support both with fake out and intimidate. This is a rather slow team, but between boosted priority, tailwind and very good defensive typings i never found that to be problematic.
Scizor-Mega @ Scizorite
Ability: Technician
Happiness: 0
EVs: 112 HP / 252 Atk / 144 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Bullet Punch
- Bug Bite
- Swords Dance

- Taunt

Scrafty @ Wiki Berry
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 240 HP / 212 Atk / 52 Def / 4 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Fake Out
- Low Kick
- Knock Off
- Taunt

Zygarde @ Choice Band
Ability: Aura Break
EVs: 160 HP / 244 Atk / 104 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Thousand Arrows
- Outrage
- Stone Edge
- Extreme Speed

Zapdos @ Misty Seed
Ability: Static
EVs: 248 HP / 36 Def / 40 SpA / 184 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Thunderbolt
- Heat Wave
- Tailwind
- Roost

Tyranitar @ Shuca Berry
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 164 HP / 212 Atk / 132 SpA
Brave Nature
- Rock Slide
- Crunch
- Ice Beam
- Stealth Rock

Seems like Scizor teams should be doing very well right now, due to the massive rise in Metagross / Snorlax, so hopefully we're going to see more of it in upcoming seasonal / spl matches.

The teams above were curated, with input from other veteran DOU players, to provide new and experienced players alike with a "starter pack" of sample teams that are diverse, easy to use, and (perhaps most importantly) successful in high-level play.

Builder-submitted descriptions for each team are expected in the next week or so.

A more frequent update schedule

Moving forward, the sample team lineup is going to be reviewed and updated much more frequently (every two months or so, or whenever a Pokemon gets banned) to ensure it stays as fresh and relevant as possible.

Given this is the first update cycle under my watch, it's very possible that there will be another update sooner than two months from now - probably to add a few more teams to the list above (I'm looking to have around 6 to 8 teams listed at any given time). USUM is still a fresh and evolving meta with a lot of upcoming trends to watch for, so the lineup above is by no means set in stone yet. No promises yet, but here are a few examples of sample teams I'd considering adding in after a few more rounds of Seasonals and SPL, depending on what performs well:
  • A Tapu Koko/Mega Metagross team
  • A Snorlax/Gothetelle semiroom team
  • A Mega Gengar team
  • Anything else that stands out in competitive games
Planned feature: sample team replays

I don't have a firm ETA on this yet, but it's my goal to be able to provide a few replays for each sample team, demonstrating how the builders and/or other high-level players use them in competitive matches. The best way to get to know a team is to test it yourself, but often times players build teams with specific leads and playstyles in mind, so it never hurts to see how they use them!

A couple of quick updates regarding sample teams!
  • Sample Team descriptions: The builders of the listed sample teams have all kindly provided in-depth descriptions of their thought processes behind building and using their teams - thanks to all who've submitted descriptions! Hopefully these will help newer players understand the optimal ways to operate the teams. Replays will be coming soon™.

  • Sample Team shifts: I've removed Rain Psyspam from the samples for the time being; with the current metagame we're seeing a lot more Trick Room, which gives this archetype a harder time and might make it less ideal for a newer player to use. I'll potentially be looking to add a rain team back in later, but if you liked this sample team not all is lost because...

  • Other team resources: Below the sample teams, I've added links to all the other great resources in this forum where you can find good teams - including Rain Psyspam teams! People enter DOU from a variety of places. Some are new to competitive Pokemon altogether, while others may already be experienced in other formats like VGC or singles OU. By giving other threads like Frameworks and the Teambuilding Competition, my hope is that novices and experienced players alike will get as much value from this thread as possible.
That's it for now - hopefully these changes are a step in the right direction. If you have ideas on how to make this thread more useful / interesting, feel free to PM me here or on Discord! I can't guarantee I'll implement every suggestion I get, but at the very least I will definitely listen to your feedback and take it seriously.

I'll leave you now with a team I've been enjoying recently, which I used in my last seasonal match:

I built this team for my last seasonal match expecting my opponent to bring solid counters to the Trick Room teams I often enjoy bringing. I guess I basically built the opposite of a Trick Room team haha, but I still wanted to bring good counters to Trick Room since Gothlax and Camelroom teams were picking up steam. Zygarde packs Dragon Tail to force out opposing Trick Room setters before they get a chance to set Trick Room, while Deoxys-A carries Darkium Z and Dark Pulse to OHKO popular bulky setters like Bronzong and Gothitelle. I also noticed, in going through usage stats for SPL, seasonals, and USUM kick-off that rain+Ferrothorn had an above-average winrate, so I wanted to build around that. I ran Curse > Leech Seed to make Ferrothorn a more aggressive Trick Room check and lategame wincon.

Late because Smogon forums were being buggy when Snorlax's ban was announced, but the following team has been removed as a result of the recent Snorlax ban.

Salamence Semiroom by miltankmilk

This thread is also just due for a refresh in general since it's been a few months since this was last updated. I'll probably sync the next update in tandem with the post-SPL team dumps, so stay tuned!

Haven't used this in any tours yet, but it's what I used a majority of the time I helped my dpl team test usum dou and it's pretty fun.

Mgar is a cool mon. This is one of my favorite usum teams, mostly because of this neat gastro set. I realized ground+ice coverage was really nice and could usually hit 4 or 5 mons on most standard mgar teams super effectively. I messed around with swampert a bit at first, but was guided to the conclusion that gastrodon is just all around better. With expert belt, gastrodon ohkos standard bulky gengar and zygarde and 2hkos 32 spdef vest incineroar. The defensive investment lets it live a neutral groudnium z thousand arrows from zygarde, then has a dump in spdef. The rest of the team is pretty standard stuff. Incin is a bulky pivot that helps tr to go up, genesect acts as a fast mode for the team along with m-gar that outspeeds scarf lele and ohkos max hp lando with ice beam. Bulu is just z grass with superpower for coverage and then there's standard berry hoopa to get up tr. Bulu and incin are ev'd so that hoopa outspeeds them in trick room. The main goal of the team is to use genesect and incin to pivot out to gastro when it'd have a favorable match-up and use gar to let gastro take out mons like zygarde, lando, incin, koko etc. The semi room mode can be used for a nice late game sweep or to gain momentum early on. It has double dark to help with the opposing gengar matchup, but I know some people don't feel like hoopa is the best in the meta, so I've tested the team with bolt beam p2 as the trick room setter and it worked just as fine so feel free to make that change if you don't like hoopa.

undefeated mega kangaskhan gamer qsns here to drop some teams

Feel free to ask me about any choices on these squads - they all look pretty standard, but a lot of thought went into most moveset choices. I'm really happy with all of them barring the last, where forgoing Flash Cannon on Thund and Play Rough on Azu last minute would have cost me the game if I had not gotten lucky. ORAS is a ton of fun and I hope everyone enjoys it during DOU Tour :)

Not exactly happy with my record but all my teams were solid and I was happy with how I played, just got a bit unlucky. Week 2 was just a Stratos team that I made some quick edits to as me and Biosci had to play on the monday. Enjoy.

I was planning to make just a dpl team dump but since i won't be using my winter ssnl teams that much anymore I'll post some of them too :psyglad:
(notice some of the ssnl teams are early tries of some of the most popular archetypes rn or are pre-incineroar, so they will probably won't work as well as actual teams)

I don't think I ever posted it, but it's still sort of relevent with ongoing dou tour. I have several variations on this style of team, even within the same 6 mons they're higly adaptable. Which leads to a lot of interesting choices in movesets and EVs.
So here's my favourite take on the ORAS Azu-Kang-Rachi stuff
Kangaskhan-Mega @ Kangaskhanite

Volcanion @ Shuca Berry

Happiness: 0
EVs: 252 HP / 76 Def / 180 SpA

Jirachi @ Safety Goggles

Impish Nature
- Follow Me
- Iron Head
- Trick Room
- Protect
Practically everything is bulky. The only thing which can't survive a +6 Aqua Jet, from full, is Landorus. Azu is a powerful pokemon which should be respected with many answers.

Kang has standard moves. Speed Tier is a normal one (faster than max base 70s). I can't remember what the attack is for (something related to a +2 sucker or PuP chains iirc). Small amount of spdef gives it the 15/16 survival on Timid CharY Overheat. Inner Focus v Scrappy is w/e, I went with IF 'cause it was a slower Kang and people really do like to try the, possible, speed tie Fake Out.

Lando is bog-standard. I have new ideas for it after recent developments in gen7, but for now it's good as is. It has the most minor of speed undercreep for scouting of other lando and slower u-turn. This could go slower and bulkier.

Thundurus is god. Protect slot can be HP Ice or Taunt, though my prefference falls with Protect. The spa provides high odds of tbolt doing at least 75% to opposing Azu (all but the min 3 rolls vs 252/4). Rain Dance is a fantastic move. CharY stuff can often be a poor matchup for this style of team, this can go some ways to flipping it. It also significantly boosts Azu Jets, letting it break past some resistances, intimidate cycling or certain mons which are bulked to take it on. Boosted Steam Eruptions are also obscene.

Volcanion should practically always have Haze in my opinion. Azu, once again, is too strong to ignore. Item can be Shuca, Wacan, Sitrus or Safety Goggles. All are fine.

Azu is shiny, 'cause gold bunny is best bunny.

Jirachi is again standard EVs. Item can be any of Goggles, Sitrus, Shuca. Make sure Goggles is on one of Rachi or Volc, greatly preffered on Rachi. Trick Room can turn games around, most of the team is slow or mid speed and can work with it well. +6 Azu under TR spamming Knock is also insane. I wouldn't drop Protect personally, but it is an option if you want one of Rachi's ten million other support options.

Ok so as you may/may not have noticed I am now the owner of this thread! I plan to review the samples at the end of every circuit/official tour we have, so there should be regular up to date teams. In terms of immediate changes:
  • Increase the number of samples: I would like to keep the number of samples at around 7/8 at any one time, just to give newer players enough variety when picking teams, while also having a good set of teams including all the viable megas at any current time.
  • Sample team replays: I will add one replay showcasing each team to give an idea, along with the written description, of how to play the team.
I will be removing: Level 51's Manectric, miltankmilks Mega Scizor and Frania's Metagross teams and am replacing them with:
  • EmbCPT's Mega Metagross:
  • MajorBowman's Mega Scizor:
  • AuraRayquaza's Mega Charizard Y:
  • miltankmilk's Mega Gengar + Kommo-o:
  • Hashtag's Mega Manectric:
  • DaWoblefet's Mega Gengar + Zygarde:
