This week, we're building around:
+
Choice Scarf Kyurem-B: Though Kyurem-B is mostly known for tearing apart slower, bulkier teams with its stellar super effective coverage as a Substitute attacker, it's also capable of functioning as a Speed safety net with Choice Scarf. With its coverage and good power, Choice Scarf Kyurem-B can pick off a weakened or super effective targets, including as Choice Scarf Landorus-T.
I've decided to build this team around the core, Diancie + Infernape w/ Kyurem-B coming later into team-building of course. Then, I brought Zapdos to the team to ensure team's offensive presence; it works well with Infernape's Fake Out. And to make the most of my Tailwind, Hoopa-U was chosen for play; its capability to eliminate Wide Guard users and Redirectors have proven to be very valuable. Next, Kyurem-B was added to the roster, ensuring that Landorus-T or Heatran won't be nuisances during the games. For my last mon, I thought it was important that I have the consistency of Tailwind while still providing the remaining coverage. As in result, I chose Crobat will the excellent ability, Inner Focus.
Togekiss @ Safety Goggles
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 248 HP / 96 Def / 12 SpA / 92 SpD / 60 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Air Slash
- Roost
- Follow Me
- Tailwind
I started out with Scarf Kyurem, obviously, then I added Mega Venusaur for sleep support and because it checks Fairy-type that aren't named Gardevoir. Next, I added Aegislash as a secondary Fairy check and as a Terrakion and Mega Metagross check. Rotom-W counters birb and Fire-types, while Hoopa beats opposing Aegislash and Jirachi. Togekiss is for redirection and Tailwind support as well as a sleep immune.
EDIT: Literally just realized I had Talonflame's sprite where Togekiss was supposed to be. Derp
Diancie+Hail is something I have been meaning to build for a while now. Abomasnow and Kyurem make excellent partners to Diancie as waters cannot touch them, grass types are destroyed, as are genies.
After deciding on this starting core I went with Volcanion to round out missing coverage. Going with Shuca Berry because I only have 1 ground immune and EP to improve my opposing Volcaion match up.
Next I want a ground immune but also feel kang weak and fighting type weak. So Lando T is obvious.
Finally Aegislash for another Kang/fighting type switch-in that can beat fairies and greatly improves my TR match up.
This team plays similarly to my favorite team I used in VGC 2015 to get Top 8 at the Florida Regional, which is why I enjoy it a lot.
Kangaskhan/Arcanine/Terrakion/Thundurus/Suicune/Aegislash was the team. I feel like Scarf Kyurem does what Suicune did on the old team, which is offer a good way to OHKO Landorus-T (Suicune could back then because it was early 2015 and AV/bulk was super uncommon).
A fast offensive Kyurem essentially patches a lot of inherent weaknesses a lot of the Pokemon on this team have (especially Landorus-T). Terrakion beats Y-Zard, and has to worry about Landorus less due to Kyurem.
Kang/Azu/Rachi rounds out the team, offering solid offensive options against a plethora of things as well as just being strong as hell.
28 Spe EVs on Azu allow it to speedcreep base 50s (which help a lot in the mirror)
zard y is a mega that loves genies pressured, and in turn pressures opposing rachi cores which is also really annoying for kyubey. Diancie also was an option as it's another mega that hates genies but the azurachi matchup starting going south pretty hard.
I use aegislash for wide guard support for megazard and beating fairies for kyubey
amoonguss is used as my redirector as I already have an aegislash.
genies are good pokemon! intimidate is great for the rest of my team so lando-t was a safe pick. as for thundurus, probably the most replaceable member on this team. the team needs speed control other than relying hard on 1 Scarf user: t-wave is one way to provide speed control, while taunt stops nonsense and forces good positioning from TR teams. Instead of t-wave, other speed control methods like Trick Room with Pokemon such as Hoopa also sounds like a legitimate option.
Wanted to go a hyper offensive route with Diancie + Scarf Kyurem. Mence was my first initial thought as a ground immune, sun check, steel check and primary form of speed control. Aegislash was added as a steel to give me a Diancie switch in, a spore Switch in and as a soft check to trick room. Hoopa was added next to improve trick room matchup further with powerful dark stab. Its an all-round powerhouse that takes advantage of Tailwind from Mence. Finally I wanted a check to bulky waters and secondary speed control. Taunt improves matchup vs Set up mons and trick room further and Flash Cannon aids Diancie Matchup a little more.
