Doubles UU

Hey, I'm a bit new to UU Doubles, but I've noticed a LOT of Mega Sceptile.
Most of the time I've seen it, I've been able to anticipate and wreck it. Is it even that viable?

Ya'll sleep on regirock; will update with a dank regirock team dB^)

Trick Room Regirock/MegaStoise

This team is a modification of my first and only RMT for Doubles OU, and it greatly amoong and bisharp weak, but it's duubs so B)
The team has met relative success in tournament, and has done well in general.

The gist of the team is just to set up trick room with either jirachi or aromatisse and the preferred slow attacker. Jirachi eats up the special attacks that would otherwise do massive damage to regirock and mega blastoise. Aromatisse's heal pulse is incredibly helpful next to Blastoise's Water Spout. Hariyama is there to fake out next to a trick roomer, and once trick room is set up, use Earthquake to possibly set off Regirock's weakness policy on the switch. Parasect is there for spore, and an actually decent attack to boot. Fire punch is on Regirock because of all the 4x weaknesses on the top of the tier list.

clius that looks like a unique strategy--I've always dismissed using water spout/eruption because i feel that it's so unreliable, but heal pulse looks like it could make it a lot better! My only suggestion for you is that you could use Tangrowth > Parasect. Parasect has really bad defensive typing and bulk and the only thing that it has over Tangrowth is Spore. Tangrowth gets Sleep Power anyway so its not that big of a tradeoff imo.

Points for discussion: I brought up some mons in the last page and I'd like to hear some of you guys' opinions so we can make more accurate rankings.
undecided and open for discussion: the following pokemon seem pretty good, but since i've never used them or have seen them frequently, i havent put them in the rankings. i'd like you guys to discuss these pokemon and where they could fit on the rankings, if at all.

it seems like it would be good because of its speed, special attack, and intimidate. however, it seems to be walled by a good number of threats.

an offensive slow water type? sign me up! although, judging by its stats, it looks like its not bulky enough for its own good and i doubt it could function well outside of trick room. does it serve well as a check to the abundant fire-types?

mega medicham seems cool because of its base 100 speed tier, access to fake out, and the ability huge power. maybe it could work well under tailwind?

I didn't feel like posting these in the main stats thread, but here's the combined usage for Doubles UU and the list of Pokemon who are "Doubles UU by usage" (that is, would be banned from Doubles NU):

Yikes... the tier looks really shaken up after this update.

We lost:
  • Volcarona
  • Milotic
  • Serperior
  • Ninetales (???????????????)
  • Abomasnow
  • Thundurus-T
  • Jirachi
We got:
  • Chandelure
  • Mamoswine
  • Mawile
  • Camerupt

What do you guys think? How should the viability rankings adjust to these new changes? Right now, I've only removed the respective pokemon from the ranks without changing anything else. It looks like Trick Room is even stronger now, albeit having lost Abomasnow. I'm thinking that we might need to ban Camerupt, since it functions so exceptionally under Trick Room, and DUU has a significant lack of bulky waters.

Only bulky waters I can think of is stoise, Jellicent, swampert, maybe slowking?
Other than that, Mega Mawile also is a huge threat to look out for now.
As for the ban, would it just be a consensus among us or would we actually test it?

Also RIP the last good follow me-er :')

also is fake out good on support blastoise?

In my short time using Blastoise, the Fake Out was nice. But honestly, especially if you're low on moveslots, Follow Me can prove to be even more disruptive (i.e. few expect him to run that).

Lilligant from Tier 3 to Unranked
imo, losing its best partner, Ninetales, was the final nail in the coffin for Lilligant. Its only niche was a Chlorophyll sweeper, and now Ninetales has gone, sun teams are pretty bad imo, as they lack a reliable setter (think of how rain has Tornadus). Even if you were to somehow prove that sun is a viable playstyle still, I see little reason to run Lilligant over Victrebell, who has a great secondary STAB in the form of Sludge Bomb, letting Victrebell get past the Fire-types that Lilligant can only stand a chance against by getting lucky with sleep turns. I'm not saying that Victrebell should be ranked, but this was just a point to show off how garbage Lilligant is lol.

Real cool core I've been using on my Tailwind teams. Tornadus is easily one of the best (offensive) support pokemon in the tier, and can fit on pretty much any team thanks to its sheer versatility. However, it's ultimately held back by the prevelance its common checks and counters, particularly Electric-types, such as Rotom-H. Enter Rhyperior! Rhyperior can easily beat Rotom-H and Raikou, redirecting the Thunderbolts directed towards Tornadus and dealing heavy damage in return, while taking advantage of the Tailwind that Tornadus provides,as to compensate for its mediocre base speed. Tornadus also beats Grass-types that check Rhyperior. Strong special attackers that can make use of Tailwind being up, such as Mega-Blastoise, appreciate Rhyperior and Tornadus breaking down special walls, such as Aromatisse. Mega-Blastoise is also a cool partner, as it appreciates Rhyperior redirecting Thunderbolts, aswell as Tornadus beating Grass-types.

I'm tired so this description is gonna be shorter than the last ;~;

Anyways, Genesect is a really solid mon that can threaten a vast majority of the meta, but is ultimately let down by how weak it is to Fire-types, particularly Rotom-H. Draco Meteor Mega-Altaria is actually a super cool lure for Rotom-H, and Fire-types in general, and appreciate Genesects ability to threaten Aromatisse, which hardwalls Altaria.

fresh shit indeed, my friend.

In other news, I've added a Tier TBD (to be decided) to the rankings. Here's what it looks like right now:
Tier TBD
These Pokemon could probably see a spot on these rankings, but they are either too uncommon, not discussed on enough, or are brand new to the tier. Discuss a placement on these Pokemon (or if they even deserve one at all,) to help make the rankings more accurate.
Camerupt (Mega)
Chandelure
Clawitzer
Empoleon
Manectric (Mega)
Mawile (Mega)
Let me know what you guys think of this change. Hopefully we'll be able to find a nice home for these Pokemon.

edit: also, we have a Doubles UU Minitour running! You can post and discuss replays from that minitour in this thread.

camerupt is actually fantastic and the easiest s rank ive ever seen in my life. bulky as hell and nearly nothing switches into a set of heat wave/ep/ancient power/protect. looking to be the face of tr right now and considering how prevalent that is, it's probably the best mon in the format along with yama.

mawile performs poorly in a metagame dominated by fire types. most of the best mons in the tier beat it 1v1 with ease and it's prone to being worn down easily against resisted hits thanks to its poor spdef. i do not see this being any higher than tier 2.

also why isn't jellicent tier 1.5 @_@ even before the camel drop it was one of the top tr setters and it walls half the metagame. it switches into mega camel (nice af) and it's hard to wear down thanks to reliable recovery. i could easily see this being tier 1 but not having it in at least tier 1.5 is an injustice.

Hey, I'd like to nominate Jellicent moving to tier 1, and Aromatisse moving down to tier 1.5. While this is a fairly controversial nom, give me a sec to explain. While yes, Aromatisse is undeniably the most reliable setter of Trick Room, it has several flaws that, in my opinion, make it far less effective than the rest of Tier 1. The biggest problem is its vulnerability to Fire-types, which run rampant in the tier, and show no sign of declining in their effectiveness, especially considering the introduction of Chandelure and Mega Camerupt. Well you might be saying to yourself, "astrodeen, being weak to fire types isnt enough basis to dropling 111!!!!!1", however, Aromatisse is also total fodder to Genesect and Escavalier, both of which are excellent and common attackers. Escavalier in particular makes Aromatisse think twice before setting up Trick Room (aka fulfilling its only role lol), as Esca "outslows" most opponents in Trick Room, due to its low base speed, and can hit the opposing team with its excellent coverage and Attack. At this point you might say "but astrodeen, esca is weak to fire types aswell!" but thats why its tier 1.5 and not tier 1 lol. i mean, an immunity to taunt is cool, but most taunt users beat you anyways. i think that aroma should move down to tier 1.5, but no lower.

Jellicent really does appreciate the recent metagame trends, with Fire-types being on every team, aswell Mega-Abomasnow leaving, meaning that Jelli not only walls half the meta, but it can threaten the other half with the potential of a burn. I really cant emphasize how great being a bulky Water-type in this meta, especially since mega camel is everywhere nowadays (xzern pls suspect), while not being passive like vanilla blastoise rof. Jellicent is really the face of Trick Room at this point, and should be recognized as such. Also, most importantly, it had a hot mustache.

"also consider which one has a fuckin MUSTACHE.... u guessed it... jellicent......"-xzerns last words, 2003-2015

Ok after the Doubles UU Minitour finishes, I would like to call for a Mega Camerupt suspect test:

Why is it broken:

Trick Room has always been a problem in Doubles UU since it's creation. It is a very centralizing playstyle that any serious team must prepare for to be successful in this meta. Before the August shifts, we had a very prominent Trick Room abuser in Mega Abomasnow, that effectively sweeped teams, but had checks and counters in Rotom-H, Jirachi, Volcorona, etc... but we have now lost that mon in the shifts and gained another TR abuser in Mega Camerupt. As soon as it came to the tier it bothered me, as TR was already a major problem, but now we have a mon who has amazing 105/145 offenses plus Sheer Force to hit incredibly hard. Another problem is that it is incredibly slow with 20 Speed and has amzing moves in Heat Wave, Rock Slide, Earth Power and Eruption that benefit from Sheer Force, leaving it hard to find switchins to this mon. The most efficient way to stop this mon is to use a bulky water, which there is a lack of in Dubs UU. Jellicient, Blastoise, Clawitzer and Swampert are the mons that come into my mind as bulky waters in the tier, since we lost Milotic in the shifts. Mega Camerupt also has an expansive movepool that allows it to choose what walls it. Rock Slide for Rotom-H, HP Grass for Swampert, and it's pwerful STABs to hit everything else. I beleive it's in the best interest of Doubles UU to at least suspect this mon after the Minitour ends. I don't want to be forced to run Jelli on all my teams.

252+ SpA Sheer Force Mega Camerupt Earth Power vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Jellicent: 159-187 (39.3 - 46.2%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
0 SpA Jellicent Scald vs. 128 HP / 0 SpD Mega Camerupt: 292-348 (93.2 - 111.1%) -- 56.3% chance to OHKO
252+ SpA Sheer Force Mega Camerupt Earth Power vs. 236 HP / 0 SpD Mega Blastoise: 202-238 (56.4 - 66.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Atk Guts Hariyama Close Combat vs. 128 HP / 4 Def Mega Camerupt: 304-358 (97.1 - 114.3%) -- 81.3% chance to OHKO
252+ SpA Sheer Force Mega Camerupt Heat Wave vs. 0 HP / 128 SpD Hariyama: 226-267 (52.6 - 62.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after burn damage

I just wanted to tell you that some other viable Pokemon are klefki as well as golduck on a rain team with swift swim because it gets access to the move soak and you can have your partner be almost anything with thunder I would suggest bulky sweeper zapdos so 252 hp 252 sp. atk and you have the golduck have 252 hp and 252 speed

Nominating Chandelure for Tier 1.5

PROS:
-Decent TR setter, especially with Focus Sash since it's Fake Out-immune
-Flash Fire is great in a Fire-type driven meta
-145 SpA hits really hard

CONS:
-Frail defenses (60/90/90)
-Faces competition with Mega Rupt for TR Fire-type

Also, Nidoking for Tier 3

PROS:
-Great coverage
-Sheer Force + Life Orb means it hits hard physically or specially

CONS:
-Frail defenses (81/77/75)
-Awkward speed tier

Yeah, we know that there are other viable pokemon. However, since the tier is so underplayed, we don't know where to put those mons. If you look at the viability rankings post on the first page, you'll see that we have a section exclusively for potentially viable mons that could use a ranking. If you want, you could make a nomination for klefki or golduck to be placed somewhere, but this nomination needs to be backed up with adequate reasoning like you see in some of the above posts.

Also, once I wrap up the minitour, I'll announce a Camerupt test. Details will be revealed when the time comes.

This is my offensive rain team

Swampert @ Swampertite
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 100 / 252 Atk / 156 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Waterfall
- Earthquake
- Rain Dance > Rock Slide > Ice Punch
- Protect

A standard Mega Swampert Set, I used to have Rain Dance on Swampert, but found myself rarely using it, so switched it to Rock Slide, but never used that. After recently facing a scary Mega Sceptile team, I decided to switched to Ice Punch, to help deal with the Green Dragon. EVs allow me to outspeed max speed Beedrill and Sceptile.

Tornadus @ Life Orb
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Rain Dance
- Hurricane
- Protect
- Taunt

Tornadus and Swampert make a great duo, as Tornadus can set up Rain for Pert, while dodging Earthquakes, and speedily dealing with Grass Types that Mega Swampert hates. Taunt allows me to beat all the silly gimmicks in Doubles UU while also giving me a easy way to help stop trick room!

Hariyama @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Guts
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def
Brave Nature
IVs: 1 Spe
- Close Combat
- Fake Out
- Knock Off
- Protect

At this point I realized that a burn or paralysis would destroy Swampert and Tornadus as core, so Hariyamas ability to use status to it's advantage with Guts is super helpful. It also hits really hard, and provides my team with Fake Out. The one speed IV allows Hariyama to Fake Out before other Hariyamas in a Trick Room team turn 1.

Raikou @ Life Orb
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunder
- Volt Switch
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Protect

With a bird spam weakness present, Raikou allows me to hit Bulky Water Types that Swampert struggles with, while answering M-Sceptile with Hidden Power Ice. It also has a 110 power special attacking that has STAB and 100% accuracy in rain.

Kingdra @ Life Orb
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Muddy Water
- Draco Meteor
- Rain Dance
- Protect

With a lack of a special sweeper in rain, a rain setter, and spread moves, Muddy Water Kingdra was an easy pick, as it can easily drop bombs in the form of draco meteors and set rain for the rest of the team.

Escavalier @ Assault Vest > Lum Berry
Ability: Overcoat
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
Brave Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Megahorn
- Iron Head
- Knock Off
- Drill Run > Protect

Escavalier is on this team for several reasons;
- It hits like a truck
- It can use the rain to reduce fire damage that it hates
- It helps beat Fairy Pokemon that my team has a problem with
- It helps beat Psychic Pokemon that my team has a problem with
- It helps beat Trick Room which is ever popular on the ladder

doesnt have 4x weak like parasect, outslows mega camel under tr, its so good vs tr since goggle setters cant ohko, outslows everything.
maero to tier 1.5
god match up vs ho, hits most of the tier, probaly the best ho mon.
aurorus for tier 1.5
ice spread, amazing on tr, encore so opponent cant protect to outstall tr, bird check. super synergy with mblastoice.
jynx for thier 2
fake out, oblivious(or dry skin for manaphy), lovely kiss, even perish for lati, really nice support mon
klefki for tier 1.5

viability rankings update, brief explanations:
Chandelure: TBD -> 1.5
Great offensive Trick Room setter; beats Escavalier, which is a notable tr check. However it conflicts with Mega Camerupt as they stack weaks when used together

Clawitzer: TBD -> 1.5
One of the few good offensive bulky waters, which are greatly in demand due to the existence of a certain mega camel. Doesn't take up a mega slot like Mega Blastoise but still has a good amount of power.

Empoleon: TBD -> UR
While it's a cool bulky water, it loses to Mega Camerupt and can't switch in as easily to fire-types. It's lost its niche a lot also now that Mega Abomasnow has left the tier.

Manectric (Mega): TBD -> 3
[5:02:10 PM] aberdeen: but it hits like a limp dick and is walled by the 2 best mons lol
also trick room exists

Infernape: UR -> 2
[4:57:30 PM] aberdeen: arcanine is a better fire type
[4:57:37 PM] aberdeen: and yama is a better fighting type
[4:57:45 PM] aberdeen: but a combination of the two is really cool
[4:58:04 PM] aberdeen: but i dont think it should go higher than 2 because it performs worse than both of the aforementioned mons

Braviary: UR -> 3
While Tornadus is generally better, Braviary packs more of a punch with higher base attack and Brave Bird.

Genesect: 1 -> 1.5
Even though it's very threatening in the right situations, it just doesn't do well against the abundant fire types or trick room.

Manaphy: UR -> 1.5
Another good bulky water type, but I think that tier 1 is a bit much for a mon that we barely see

Foongus: UR -> 3
Underspeeds Camerupt, does better against fighting types than Tangela

Klefki: UR -> 2
Good weather setter, twave spammer, screens user. All around good utility backed up by nice defensive typing.

Aurorus: UR -> 3
The only viable auto-setter after august's reaping, but it has horrible typing

suspect will be announced soon, i think, so hold on to your pantyhose

feel free to argue with any of the placements or to suggest any other nominations

MONS TO DISCUSS

Tangrowth from Tier 2 -> Tier 3/Unranked

tangela is generally better as a purely defensive mon, while shaymin is better as an offensive mon. While it does provide a balance between the two, tangela isnt really passive for a defensive mon, and shaymin has pretty solid bulk as it is.

Mega Aerodactyl to Tier 1/1.5
great speed, typing lets it check the fire-and fighting-types that are everywhere, and a wide ass support movepool if youre into that. defines non-trick room offense, however it does struggle with the recent influx of bulky water types that are used to check camerupt, and despite its great ability and attack stat, its damage output is held back by its low bp moves.

Braviary from Tier 3 to Tier 2
great attack stat, movepool, and ability that lets it deter intimidate users. although it faces competition with tornadus, another defiant user, who has better speed, typing, aswell as being more unpredictable due to being able to run either special or physical sets, braviary is able to hold an item, and get past electric-types easier due to a secondary STAB.

you can still discuss other mons, but wed like some input on these ones in particular
