Overview
########

As the only fully evolved Pokemon with access to Arena Trap, Dugtrio has a very specific niche in the OU metagame as a unique trapper and revenge killer. Dugtrio's blazing Speed stat complements this excellently, allowing it to trap and finish off a wide range of weakened threats. It also has a decent offensive movepool coupled with useful support moves in Memento and Stealth Rock. In addition to these positives, however, Dugtrio does have some notable flaws. Above all, it is extremely frail, forcing it to rely on a Focus Sash. Dugtrio's Attack stat is also rather mediocre, giving it great difficulty KOing bulky Pokemon. Furthermore, Dugtrio cannot trap Flying-types or Pokemon with levitate, which Shadow Tag users can. Despite these flaws, Dugtrio is definitely a Pokemon to be cautious of in the Overused metagame.

Moves
========

Earthquake is Dugtrio's main move and most powerful STAB option when at full health. Its main use is to revenge kill weakened Pokemon and take out Heatran and Aegislash. Reversal works well with a Focus Sash and provides a great source of Fighting-type coverage; at 1 HP, Reversal is stronger than even Earthquake. It hits Pokemon such as Tyranitar and Terrakion for massive damage. Stone Edge has great coverage with Earthquake, KOing Volcarona and weakening the Flying-types unaffected by Arena Trap. Dugtrio's last moveslot is filled with some form of support for its teammates. Memento opens up setup opportunities for teammates and cripples whatever switches into Dugtrio after it has KOed a trapped Pokemon. However, Stealth Rock is also a good option if you can't fit it onto another Pokemon, and is a nigh mandatory form of support for every team.

Outside of the listed moves, Sucker Punch is usable to pick off Gengar, Alakazam, and Latios without having to rely on teammates. Alternatively, Substitute could be used as an option to give Dugtrio a shield against priority. It also allows Dugtrio to inflict massive amounts of damage to Chansey and Blissey when Dugtrio reaches full power for Reversal.

Set Details
========

Full investment in Attack and Speed maximizes Dugtrio's revenge killing capabilities, and a Jolly nature ensues it outruns the many threats in the 100-115 range that often run Speed boosting natures. A Focus Sash somewhat remedies Dugtrio's paper-thin defenses, allowing it to take at least one hit before it faints, as well as giving it a shield against priority. 26 HP IVs are used to give Dugtrio an HP stat of 206, which gives Reversal full power after Dugtrio takes two Seismic Tosses.

Usage Tips
========

Dugtrio is a Pokemon best brought in to revenge kill opposing Pokemon or on other free switches to secure KOs. This means that it can be brought in on U-turn or Volt Switch off predicted switch-ins of its primary targets, such as Tyranitar and Heatran. Because it might need to trap at any time, Dugtrio doesn't really excel at any particular point of the game. In addition, due to its mediocre power, it can only KO frail and weakened threats, generally. Memento or Stealth Rock are best used after Dugtrio has already performed its trapping duties so that it can provide a form of utility outside of its offensive role.

Team Options
========

Defog (if you run Memento) or Rapid Spin support is highly recommended when using Dugtrio in order to ensure that its Focus Sash stays intact. Examples of teammates that can provide this support include Latios, Starmie, and Mandibuzz. Pokemon that can use Volt Switch or U-turn are excellent partners, too, as they can bring Dugtrio in safely on threats it is supposed to trap. Talonflame and Thundurus are all good partners in this regard. Dugtrio reciprocates this support by trapping and KOing troublesome counters to these Pokemon. Indeed, Dugtrio is one of the best Pokemon to pair with Talonflame by virtue of the fact that it can trap and KO one if its best counters: Heatran.

Other Options
########

A Choice Band set is a possible option for Dugtrio, transforming it into a much more powerful revenge killer from the get-go. Notably, Dugtrio avoids the need to use prediction with a Choice Band, unlike other users of the item, by virtue of Arena Trap. A Life Orb could also be used to give Dugtrio extra power without having to be locked into a move, but both of these items are inferior options, as Dugtrio's frailty makes it very reliant on a Focus Sash to revenge kill threats. Hone Claws may also look appealing to boost Dugtrio's lackluster Attack stat; however, Dugtrio lacks the bulk or the immediate power possessed by other physical setup sweepers to pull this set off reliably.

Checks & Counters
########

By definition, nothing counters Dugtrio if it is revenge killing opponents that can be trapped by Arena Trap, because counters need to switch in. Although it can sometimes defeat threats, given the right conditions, there are still plenty of checks to Dugtrio. One of the best ways to beat Dugtrio is not letting it actually trap what it wants to through the use of moves such as Baton Pass and U-turn. Moreover, Pokemon with Levitate, Flying-types, and Ghost-types can always escape the clutches of Dugtrio's Arena Trap.

**Physically Bulky Pokemon**: It is no secret that Dugtrio falls far behind typical OU attacking standards and, as a result of this, most Pokemon with decent physical bulk that aren't weak to EdgeQuake can take on Dugtrio relatively well. Skarmory, Gliscor, Gastrodon, and Landorus-T wall all of Dugtrio's attacks and proceed to set up hazards in its face or outright KO it.

**Water-types**: Sturdy Water-type Pokemon almost always make for excellent Dugtrio checks. Slowbro, Vaporeon, and Suicune can all wash away Dugtrio with their super effective Scalds and take relatively low damage from its Earthquake and Reversal. Tentacruel can't switch into Dugtrio, but can take a single Earthquake and retaliate with Scald to win as well.

**Grass-types**: Thanks to their resistance to Ground and/or ability to hit Dugtrio super effectively, many Grass-type Pokemon make for great Dugtrio checks. Trevenant and Gourgeist can take any of Dugtrio's attacks with ease and either burn it or outright KO it with an appropriate move. Breloom resists both Ground and Rock while simultaneously packing priority in the form of Mach Punch. Lastly, Mega Venusaur can use its stupendous defensive stats to wall anything that Dugtrio attempts to throw at it and proceed to KO it with a super effective Giga Drain.

**Priority**: Because Dugtrio has very pitiful defensive stats, virtually every form of priority is threatening to it. Scizor, Azumarill, and Talonflame are all good users of priority moves and can take down Dugtrio with a swift revenge kill. However, Talonflame must watch out for a potential Stone Edge if Dugtrio still has its Focus Sash intact. Bisharp can also strike down Dugtrio with its powerful Sucker Punch or take advantage of Memento, gaining an Attack boost, but cannot take an Earthquake. Finally, despite their weakness to Reversal, Mamoswine and Weavile can both pack priority Ice Shard to pick off Dugtrio.

Even if it's WIP, dont forget to mention that trapping has been nerfed and that he can't trap one of the ghosts he would've loved to trap : Aegislash.

Yeah, thanks mate! I planned on saying this but like it says in the OP this isn't near ready for QC so it's better if these comments are left for later. I appreciate the input though. I'll have this ready for QC later tonight.

Edit: I think I've got pretty much everything. It's obviously pretty short atm since it's only in really quick dot points (I'll definitely expand later), but I thought I'd open this up to see if QC wanted to say anything about the set(s). Thanks! :toast:

Sub deserves a set details mention at least. Without it, you are unable to trap and KO Chansey and Blissey, which can slowly KO you with Toxic and heal off any damage from Reversal, or just use Protect the turn that Reversal will be at 200 BP.

Sub runs a different item and without sash plays entirely different. I told lab to put it in OO, and believe it should stay there.

Sub never used an other item. It plays exactly like the main set, with the difference that against Chansey, Blissey, and a few other mons, you set up Sub until you get to Reversal range. Trapping those two can be really important, and the last slot is really up for grabs anyway, so Sub should get a set details mention.

Sub is entirely counterproductive with sash, which is why you should run another item with it. Reversal doesn't even KO Chansey at 1 HP without a Liechi Berry boost.

edit: ok your logic is fine, set details it is

Doing 60% damage min to max / max+ Chansey is enough for the rest of your team to get past, especially after SR, which leaves her with a mere 28% health at best. Sub is not redundant with Sash, as Blissey and Chansey would have broken the Sash anyway, so i don't really get what you are saying.

Try changing it to something else Moreover, due to the lack of power possessed by Dugtrio, it is usually better to only try to KO Pokemon that are frail or have already been damaged by teammates; however, Dugtrio can use its Focus Sash to guarantee two hits on slower opponents that lack priority. One of the best ways to beat Dugtrio is to nonot letting it actually let it trap what it wants to through the use of moves such as Baton Pass, U-turn, orand Volt Switch. volt switch? dugtrio is immune to volt switch o_o Moreover, Pokemon with Levitate, Flying-types, Ghost-types, orand Pokemon with a Shed Shell can always escape the clutches of Dugtrio's Arena Trap. just how relevant is shed shell? i literally would not run it on anything ever because dugtrio and trappers in general are pretty rare, and leftovers recovery is always appreciated much more. i would consider removing it; although it is a valid way to get out of dugtrio, it's not valid for an ou team.

**Physically Bulky Pokemon**: It is no secret that Dugtrio falls far behind theypical OU attacking standard of a high Attacks and, as a result of this, most Pokemon with decent physical bulk that aren't weak to EdgeQuake can take on Dugtrio relatively well. Skarmory, Forretress, and Landorus-T can wall all of Dugtrio's attacks and proceed to set up hazards in its face or outright KO it. Other Pokemon, such as Gastrodon and Gliscor, can also deal with Dugtrio easily. why don't you just lump in gastro and gliscor with the first three examples? seems like a good idea to me.

**Water-types**: Sturdy Water-type Pokemon almost always make for excellent Dugtrio checks. Slowbro, Vaporeon, and Suicune can all wash away Dugtrio with their super effective Scalds and take relatively low damage from its Earthquake and Reversal. Tentacruel can't switch into Dugtrio switch into dugtrio? not happening, but can take a single Earthquake and retaliate with Scald to win as well.

**Grass-types**: Thanks to their resistance to Ground and/or their ability to hit Dugtrio super effectively, many Grass-type Pokemon make for great Dugtrio checks.

Bisharp can also strike down Dugtrio with its powerful Sucker Punch or absorb itstake advantage of Memento, gaining an Attack boost, but cannot take an Earthquake. Finally, despite their weakness to Reversal, Mamoswine and Weavile can both pack priority Ice Shard to pick off Dugtrio.

Pretty good overall, just some jumbled wording. Don't say the Pokemon's name too much, as it's pedantic and repetitive. Also, watch the British spellings! I had to correct 'lacklustre', which is 'lackluster' in American English, the Smogon standard. Also, try not to get too wordy. There were some phrases that were just plain twisted up, which I fixed, and some that used numerous unnecessary words to get across the point, which I made shorter. Beware being repetitive! It makes the writing sound really poor. Finally, you always want to be direct in addressing a point. Only use as much language as you need to, and address the topic at hand directly. For example:
Dugtrio invests fully into its Attack and Speed stats in order to maximize its revenge killing abilities with a Jolly nature to ensure that Dugtrio can outspeed all of the threats it needs to.
First of all, you have Dugtrio twice in the same sentence. That's repetition. Moreover, the beginning of the sentence is indirect and wordy! The end of the sentence is kind of open-ended and leaves the reader to guess about the specifics of what a Jolly nature helps with, too. I changed it to:
Full investment in Attack and Speed maximizes Dugtrio's revenge killing capabilities, and a Jolly nature ensures it outruns the many threats in the 100-115 range that often run Speed-boosting natures.
The first part of the sentence ('Full investment in Attack and Speed') gets straight to the point. It also cuts off six unnecessary words, including the 'in order to', which doesn't even make it flow better. The 'with' doesn't really flow right, so I separated out the stuff about Jolly, and added some specifics as to what the Jolly nature helps with. And, the repetition is removed. This sentence sounds much better, does it not? You should aim for your sentences to be concise whilst still covering the topic at hand.

Implemented! Cheers. This is now done.

If you notice any errors in the OP feel free to let me know.

Earthquake is Dugtrio's main move and most powerful STAB option when at full health. Its main use is to revenge kill weakened Pokemon and take out Heatran and Aegislash. Reversal works well with a Focus Sash and provides a great source of Fighting-type coverage; at 1 HP, Reversal is stronger than even Eahrtuqkae. It hits Pokemon such a sTyranitar and Terrakion for massive damage.
Labyrinthine Just a couple of typos, bolded in the quote

edit: sorry, I just realised that moves paragraph is no doubt an old one you've forgotten to remove, as you have the same paragraph with correct spelling there too. My bad!

Thanks, haha. I'll just blame Jukain's diffapp for that. btw I'll be reading over this over the next 24 hours just to scan for little things.

edit: nevermind! It was just me being stupid and leaving a paragraph in there that wasn't meant to exist. Fixed :)

Doing 60% damage min to max / max+ Chansey is enough for the rest of your team to get past, especially after SR, which leaves her with a mere 28% health at best. Sub is not redundant with Sash, as Blissey and Chansey would have broken the Sash anyway, so i don't really get what you are saying.
if you use a choice banded set then blissey isnt a problem.
252 Atk Choice Band Dugtrio Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Blissey: 744-876 (104.2 - 122.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO
but chansey requires 2 layers of spikes or stealth rocks to OHKO
252 Atk Choice Band Dugtrio Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Eviolite Chansey: 603-711 (85.6 - 100.9%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO

Chansey always runs max defense, as does Blissey. However, Blissey doesn't matter.

252 Atk Choice Band Dugtrio Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Chansey: 235-277 (36.6 - 43.2%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
That's a far cry from 85% - 100%.

I think chansey kill dugtrio before him, only if dugtrio has reversal can kill chansey, chansey has recovery and status moves.
