Don't knock this until you've tried it. It isn't an inferior Gligar.

    [SET]
    name: Baton Pass
    move 1: Hone Claws
    move 2: Baton Pass
move 3: Agility / Thunder Wave
    move 4: X-Scissor
    item: Leftovers
    nature: Jolly
    evs: 252 HP / 8 Def / 248 Spe

    [SET COMMENTS]

This set utilizes Durant's high Speed and useful typing to pass boosts to a teammate. This set may seem inferior to Gligar; however, Durant only has one weakness, compared to Gligar's two, and its only weakness isn't very common. Gligar does have access to Taunt and Roost, but Durant is faster and doesn't have to rely on Eviolite to be bulky. What makes this set so effective is the surprise value; most people expect Durant to be running an offensive set, and until they see Baton Pass, they won't know any differently. Agility can be used to raise Durant's Speed, while Thunder Wave can cripple offensive switch-ins, and it helps support Durant's teammates while Durant isn't Baton Passing. X-Scissor is used for STAB, and it gives Durant something to do should it be the last Pokemon on your team; X-Scissor also smacks Uxie and Tangrowth around.

    [ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Durant is one of the fastest Pokemon in the tier; 248 Speed EVs allow Durant to outrun positive natured Galvantula, though you can lower this to 220 to outrun Manectric. Maximum HP gives Durant extra bulk, while the remaining 8 EVs are placed into Durant's already high Defense. A more offensive spread can be used with Attack EVs in place of HP, and Rock Slide can be used to hit the likes of Charizard and Typhlosion super effectively. An Occa Berry can weaken Fire-type moves, though common special attackers, such as Moltres, will power through Durant's poor Special Defense and leave it in ashes. Rock Polish is an alternative to Agility; it does exactly the same thing, albeit with lower PP. Iron Defense is another stat boosting move, though there aren't many Pokemon that benefit from a Defense boost.

Durant greatly appreciates a Special Defense boost, making a Calm Mind passer an excellent teammate. Musharna is a great choice as it has decent defensive stats, and Durant can switch into Dark-, Bug-, and Ghost-type moves aimed at it. Pokemon that can receive Durant's stat boosts are the whole point of this set, and strong physical attackers make the best choices. Entei, Zweilous, Aggron, and Gallade all appreciate a Hone Claws boosts, especially Aggron, as it receives a 120% accurate Head Smash without recoil. Honchkrow, Bouffalent, and Porygon-Z appreciate Agility boosts, which turn them into deadly sweepers.

If you prefer to use Durant on a specialized Baton Pass team, feel free to do so; just be sure to pair it with Pokemon such as Floatzel, Gorebyss, Drifblim, and Gligar. Floatzel can cripple opponents with Taunt and pass Bulk Up boosts, Gorebyss can use Agility, Aqua Ring, and Iron Defense, and Gligar can pass Rock Polish and Swords Dance. If you can eliminate the opponent's Fire-types before sending in Durant, it becomes much easier to set up, and Durant is much more difficult to KO. Poliwrath is an excellent choice as it can Substitute on a switching Fire-type, while Flash Fire Rapidash has access to Baton Pass of its own.

Yeah, talked with you about this, and I'm convinced! Mention more "strong attackers" as teammates though.

Also even though it's something it has over Gligar, I'd consider deslashing Iron Defense and just AC mentioning it as being useful for full BP teams, since not much really appreciates the defense boost.

I've moved Iron Defense to AC, and I'll make a mention of Porygon-Z, Gallade, and a few more when I do the write up. Thanks again windsong.

+1 Accuracy Head Smash actually has 120% accuracy, so it would be no chance of missing. Minor nitpick, but meh. It's about the only thing I could do.

Is there any merit to an offensive Baton Passer? Never tried it myself, but most Fire-types are slower than Durant anyway. This is probably not the place for that though.

Maybe mention that Gligar has more bulk and Roost, plus the ability pass a more useful Swords Dance boost.

To set them a part that is.

It's easier to add a sentence to the offensive sets on site about Baton Pass, and I'll add something about Gligar.

idg why Agility is the main thing being passed and not Hone Claws, not a lot in the tier can do much with just an Agility boost besides P-Z, while a lot of things (i.e. Entei) can do a lot with a Hone Claws boost. Even if most people expect Durant to be trying to sweep with Hone Claws, most won't expect Durant to be able to pass the boost to a teammate.

If running Hone Claws you need max Speed, so the spread would be 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe Jolly.

I agree with Oglemi. Passing Speed alone isn't that great, and it also kinda makes the T-Wave support redundant. I'd change the main boosting move to Hone Claws, and slash Agility with T-Wave.

Okay, changes made. If it's okay though, I'd like to mention a more defensive spread in AC.

This is a really cool pokemon to use and but I found a few oddities while reading this.

About the Taunt bit, Durant is not Taunt bait. The only other mon faster than Durant AND has Taunt is Archeops who doesnt bother with Taunt. Also, you're opponent wont catch on to the fact that you're going to bp unless you've used Agility + Hone Claws + Iron Defense. They'll most probably switch to a physical wall asap.

Also like Windsong said probably mention Entei as a reciever since it can take on most Pokemon (steels, faster fires) easily with a +1 Atk.

Forgive me for not knowing this metagame, but I took a look at the RU Speed tiers. Assuming that tying other +Spe Durant isn't important, why run Jolly 252 Spe? Jolly 248 outruns Galvantula (who I'm fairly certain packs the punch to put quite a dent into Durant), and Jolly 220 Spe outruns Manectric (Crawdaunt isn't a huge deal, given that it's really not going to break Durant anytime soon). The only other reason I can think of to pack the full 252 Spe is to outrun +3 Modest Lilligant, but I doubt that this is your response at that point.

This looks good. Probably just drop 4 EVs from Speed into Defense.
