Dwebble

[Overview]

Dwebble has a very useful niche on heavy offense teams in NU, as it can lay down both Stealth Rock and Spikes quickly. Unfortunately, that is all the little crab can do, as it is only useful because of the entry hazards it provides and its ability, Sturdy. It also faces competition from Focus Sash Scolipede, who is faster, harder to Taunt, brings offensive presence, and isn't killed by Mold Breaker Sawk. Dwebble does have Stealth Rock, something Scolipede lacks. Nonetheless, it has a great niche and should never be overlooked if you're looking for an entry hazard setter while building a team.

[SET]
name: Custap Lead
move 1: Stealth Rock
move 2: Spikes
move 3: Endure / Knock Off
move 4: Rock Blast
item: Custap Berry
ability: Sturdy
nature: Jolly
evs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Dwebble is a great lead, and it is not meant to live throughout the game. What separates it from the other entry hazards users is its ability to use both Spikes and Stealth Rock. These two moves are mandatory on this set, and with a Custap Berry and Sturdy, Dwebble is almost always guaranteed at least Stealth Rock or one layer of Spikes. The third move depends on what you prefer: Endure allows Dwebble to survive a hit and get to Custap range after Sturdy has been broken or when an attack didn't do enough damage to get there. Knock Off is useful to cripple Misdreavus, as thanks to its Levitate ability, it doesn't take much damage from entry hazards, and its immunity to Spikes is very annoying for Dwebble's teammates. Endure is almost always the superior option, though, because Knock Off's only real uses is to cripple Misdreavus. The last moveslot, Rock Blast, is mostly a filler and prevents occasional Ninjask leads setting up on you while it lays down entry hazards.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Jolly and max Speed makes Dwebble as fast as possible, and allows it to outspeed the most common Taunt user, Misdreavus, before it can prevent Dwebble from doing its job. A few HP EVs paired with Endure allows it to lay down a few entry hazards while taking some hits, but if you opt to use Knock Off in lieu of Endure, 0 HP EVs and 0 IVs in HP, Defense, and Special Defense can be used to reach Custap Berry range more easily. Toxic can be used over Rock Blast if you're using Knock Off in the third moveslot, as Rock Blast is very weak without (and even with) investment.

Ghost-types, such as Misdreavus, Drifblim, Haunter, and Golurk, are Dwebble's best friends, as they can prevent the opponent's Pokemon from using Rapid Spin and spinning away the entry hazards. In terms of good teammates, offensive teams love Dwebble's support, and nearly all sweepers benefit from the quick entry hazards it provides.

[Other Options]

Entry hazards are the only reason to use Dwebble in NU, and there are no better options than what is in the Custap Berry set. Dwebble has a very shallow movepool, so there are not many other options. You can attempt an offensive approach with a Shell Smash set consisting of Stone Edge, X-Scissor, and Earthquake, but even at +2, Dwebble is still weak and fails to hit hard.

[Checks and Counters]

Taunt is a very effective method of dispatching of Dwebble, so Skuntank and Serperior can do a good job of keeping it in check. They can force it out, and if it doesn't switch back in fast enough, Stealth Rock can break its Sturdy. Pokemon that commonly carry multi-hit moves such as Rock Blast Golem and Icicle Spear Piloswine are also threatening because they tend to lead and are able to break through Dwebble's Sturdy and KO it. However, it's worth noting that the latter is only a problem for Knock Off variants as Piloswine can't OHKO through Sturdy with negative investment. Mold Breaker Sawk also gives problems to Dwebble. Lastly, Rapid Spin users are the bane of its existence; even if you carry a spinblocker, there are some Rapid Spin users, such as Shell Smash Torkoal and Foresight Wartortle, that can beat them.

[Overview]

 • Only useful because of Sturdy, Stealth Rock and Spikes
 • Dwebble has a great niche on heavy offense, as it can lay down entry hazards quickly

[SET]
name: Custap Lead
move 1: Stealth Rock
move 2: Spikes
move 3: Endure / Knock Off
move 4: Rock Blast
item: Custap Berry
ability: Sturdy
nature: Hasty
evs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

 • Great lead, isn't made to live throughout the game
 • Stealth Rock and Spikes are mandatory on the set, offering great team support. Separates it from the other entry hazards users.
 • Endure can be useful if your Sturdy is broken, so you can take advantage of Custap without fainting before.
 • Knock Off is a great move to destabilize Eviolite and Choice users, mainly Eviolite Misdreavus, as it doesn't care much about entry hazards thanks to its Levitate ability.
 • Custap + Sturdy almost always guarantees at least Stealth Rock or one layer of Spikes.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

 • Jolly and max Speed makes Dwebble as fast as possible, with HP EVs to survive a few hits to reach Custap range later to set more entry hazards. It also outspeeds the most common Taunt user, Misdreavus, before it can stop it from doing its job.
 • Toxic can be used over Rock Blast, as Rock Blast is very weak and doesn't cover much, while Toxic can be used to beat some of its counters on the switch. X-Scissor can also be used over Rock Blast, as with 8 Atk EVs it can get a guaranteed OHKO on the standard Jynx.
 • Ghost-types are Dwebble's best friends, as they can spinblock against those who want to get rid of its entry hazards.
 • Offensive teams loves Dwebble's entry hazards support, and nearly all sweepers benefit from the quick hazards it provides.

[Other Options]

 • Hazards are the only reason to use Dwebble in NU, and there are no better options than what is in the Custap set.
 • Very shallow movepool
 • Shell Smash can be used if you want to take an offensive approach, but Dwebble still can't hit hard at +2.

[Checks and Counters]
 • Team preview: if you can break its Sturdy with stealth rock before it comes in, it's easy to ko
 • Anything that carries Taunt such as Skuntank and Serperior
 • Anything that carries multi-hit moves such as Rock Blast Golem, Icicle Spear Piloswine, etc. can break through its Sturdy
 • Rapid Spinners can make it pointless to setup hazards unless you carry a spinblocker, although most of the spinblockers lose to Shell Smash Torkoal or even Foresight Wartortle.

the EV spread should be 252 attack / 252 speed, no defense at all. I'd go and make HP, def, and SpD IVs 0 as well in order to get you to custap range faster. I'd make the nature naive or hasty, just to lower a defense even further.

For the overview, only mention that it is useful because of sturdy, SR, and Spikes. Nothing about its typing, defense or anything like that, it's not really relevant to Dwebble. Instead I'd talk about how Dwebble has a place on heavy offensive teams because of its hazard capabilities.

I think the moves should be Stealth Rock / Spikes / Rock Blast / (Endure / EQ), i'm not really sold on Knock Off, i'll let that be discussed more though.

in the AC on the set, mention how offensive teams love dwebble support, and nearly all sweepers benefit from the quick hazards it provides.

I think that Dwebble is probably better off with Max HP instead and Endure as a main move. This way it can take advantage of its decent Defense to potentially get off 2 hazards before being forced to Endure and Custap up in some situations. Dwebble is very weak and Rock Blast won't hurt much outside of things like Butterfree or Ninjask, who die to 0 Atk Rock Blast anyways.

Rename the set to: Custap Lead

So for move 3 make it look like this: Endure / Knock Off. Remove mention of Endure from Other Options and add it to Set Comments.

[SET COMMENTS]
 • In Set Comments write how Knock Off's main purpose is to cripple Misdreavus more than anything since its Levitate ability along with great bulk can be annoying even with SR and Spikes up. Other than that Endure is always better.

 • Remove Mention of Eviolite, its defensive typing is just not worth it to attempt to set up in a defensive manner. You're not guaranteed Stealth Rock and at least 1 layer of Spikes like with Custap.

 • Mention how Jolly Dwebble lets you outspeed one of the most common users of Taunt in Misdreavus and set up hazards before it can stop you.

[Other Options]
 • You can just remove mention of Flail and say that hazards is the only reason to use Dwebble in NU and there are no better options than what you have in the Custap set.

[Checks and Counters]
 • On the section that talks about Taunt, the only real Pokemon that use it are: Misdreavus, Skuntank, Fraxure, and Serperior. Jolly Dwebble outspeeds Misdreavus and Fraxure has Mold Breaker (though 252 HP / 4 Def means it will never be OHKOed by the DD set without a crit). So I think you should just limit yourself to Skuntank and Serperior as Taunt users.

Do these and Raseri's changes as well. When you implement them I'll come back to stamp it.

There is no reason not to use max HP on Dwebble since Endure is a main move and guarantees Custap activation and Rock Blast is only being used vs Ninjask or Butterfree. I definitely think 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe Jolly with full IVs is the best way to go at it unless I'm missing something. I would say change it to this for now unless Raseri or Zeb decide otherwise.

[QC]1/3[/QC]

ya go with jolly, but mention that lowering defenses is an option if you don't run Endure. And that no EVs / IVs should be used in that case. Otherwise [qc]2/3[/qc]

You forgot to change its nature back to Jolly

[Overview]
 • Remove the first 2 sentences. They don't provide any real information about Dwebble in NU and are considered fluff.

[SET COMMENTS]
 • Add that Misdreavus being immune to Spikes makes it an annoyance to Dwebble's teammates.

 • Remove the part about it removing Choice Band and Scarf and instead put much more emphasis on how Endure is better because Knock Off doesn't have many real uses other than crippling Misdreavus.

 • Remove the part about Rock Blast being there to prevent Dwebble from being Taunt bait. Even if you can hit a Taunt user with Rock Blast, it is far too weak and Dwebble is better of switching out and trying again later. (Which it can do even if it has to switch into SR/Spikes thanks to Endure + Custap) Instead mention that Rock Blast is useful against a potential lead Ninjask trying to set up Substitutes and Swords Dances as you try to get up hazards.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]
 • Remove the mention of X-Scissor, Rock Blast still does a number on Jynx and is actually better to use against it. If its a Substitute set Rock Blast will be extremely handy, while against the standard LO or Scarf sets you can just set up your hazards.

 • Mention the Ghost-type Pokemon that can be used to spinblock. Namely Misdreavus, Golurk, Drifblim, and Haunter.

[Checks and Counters]
 • Remove the first sentence. Since Dwebble is a lead, there is no way that it will switch into Stealth Rock in the manner you described it. Instead just talk about fast Taunt users like Skuntank and Serperior being able to force it out, in which at that points Stealth Rock could mess it up if it doesn't switch back in fast enough.

 • Mention how Icicle Spear Piloswine is only a problem for Knock Off sets with negative investment as Icicle Spear won't OHKO 252 HP sets past Sturdy.

Implement all these pls. If other QC members want to look at it and add something on they're welcome to. If not, I'll stamp it in 2 days.

Sweet Jesus

Neal and Jack and me, absent lovers...
Add it faces cometition from sash spikes lead scolipede who also brings offensive presence, is harder to taunt and is not killed by mold breaker sawk but that dwebble has access to SR.

Add CB mold breaker sawk in checkers and counters cause stone edge.

QC approved 3/3

Actually any kind of Mold Breaker Sawk can take down Dwebble. So just mention Sawk in general in C&C. CB can OHKO with Close Combat and other sets can KO with Stone Edge. 252 HP sets have a 25% of being OHKOed by Adamant Sawk's Stone Edge with no boosting move, but it's not worth taking the risk of it being a Choice Band set.

Oh and you still have the nature on the set as Hasty. Change it to Jolly.

So yeah change the tag to Copyediting, update QC to 3/3, add GP count and you're good to go my tutee.

I think we can allow a bit of creative license here. Dwebble is kind of a cute little crab and it's not completely overdone. I'll leave this up to the next GPer.
[GP]1/2[/GP]

Don't know if I'm too late for this, but I think Samurott should get a special mention in c&c b/c he has supereffective STAB, Aqua Jet to bypass Custap Berry, or just Taunt to prevent setup at all.

Endure isn't affected by Mold Breaker, is it? It's worth mentioning that Sawk can't prevent Dwebble from getting up SR because Dwebble can endure to custap range and set up next turn.
