It had always been interesting, the way in which Gyms come and go. Indeed, it was only 10 years ago when it would've been odd for anyone to consider Castelia City hosting the Electric Gym, but it was now. The HMS Tesla stands proudly in the port, although it normally sails a mile away from the port for the purpose of battles. The ship is a fairly standard ship, from the Falklands era. It has been fitted to accommodate battles, and notably on the main deck you can see what appears to be a giant crown - 4 golden arches curve around to support a giant gemstone above the deck.

Entering the ship, you immediately enter what appears to be a relatively fancy restaurant, quite busy. Looking around, there appears to be a window viewing the arena directly, as well as several plasma screens showing the currently empty arena. As you look around, you're greeted by a man in yellow and black attire.

"Hello there, welcome aboard the HMS Tesla. Are you here for the restaurant or the gym? The Gym? Well, this is special, the guests tonight will get a lovely show. We'll probably be ready to battle in about half an hour or so, so until then feel free to sit down and order a coffee."

Indeed, the ship does get rather full, and as the sun sets the ship begins to move out to sea. As you finish your coffee, the man returns - at this stage, you're fairly certain this is the gym leader. You're beckoned outside, and see the arena is stationed below the crown shape. However, you can't take in the beauty before the leader speaks again...

"Emolga, give us some light will ya!"

An Emolga pops out of the leader's Pokéball, and sends a small shot of lighting at the gem in the centre of the crown. It absorbs the electricity and lights up, revealing itself to actually be a giant ThunderStone. Impressive...

"Now then, a few things before we begin. Whenever you send out a Pokémon this giant rock will zap the item. Don't worry about it, it'll be perfectly safe. It just prevents it from being a drag for when your team is moving around. We also have plants and grass available on the arena as you should see, not to mention the small amount of water that surrounds this ship. You'll also note that this ship, whilst much of it has been replaced and altered, is still of British origin and has brought the weather along with it..."

The leader clicks his fingers, and on cue a light rain smothers the arena.

"Finally, good luck, and make sure you provide a good show!"
  • All Pokémon who benefit from the item ThunderStone instantly gain the effect.
  • No Pokémon is treated as holding an item for the sake of Acrobatics BAP.
  • During "Clear" weather, a light rain falls, which acts as normal rain, except with only ±1 BAP on Water/Fire Moves
  • There is no restriction on natural substances (Natural water, Grass, Rocks, etc.) to attack with.

Sorry about the delay, but I'll be taking over the reffing and commentary from here onward. Welcome all, to the HMS Tesla, and to this battle between two top players! I'm not going to spend time flattering these two though, so let's just get straight to the battle!

Texas Cloverleaf leads with two of the heaviest Pokemon in ASB: Colossoil and Snorlax! I think his plan is to sink the boat? Or maybe he's just using these two because they're OP as fuck. Anyways, Dogfish counterleads with Krilowatt and Lanturn. So I guess this is a match between 4 Pokemon with gargantuan HP stats.

ANYWAYS, both Krilowatt and Lanturn lead off with Surf. Colossoil seems to be taking its time to attack, so the two moves are synchronized and neither Pokemon is damaged by its teammate. Colossoil takes a great amount of damage from these strikes, but it looks determined to quickly pay it back. Both Colossoil and Snorlax begin to each cause a massive Earthquake+Earthquake! This doesn't really make sense, but it's happening anyways! It looks like Lanturn got crit by Snorlax's portion of the attack, so I'm sure we'll hear something about that later. Regardless, that synchronized attack did incredible damage to Dogfish's team, putting both Pokemon below half health.

Unfortunately for Texas's team, they're very worn out after the attack. Krilowatt takes the opportunity to soak the two Pokemon with Muddy Water, which manages to lower Colossoil's accuracy! Colossoil does have a Speed boosting nature to give it extra accuracy, but that could still be scary to deal with. Lanturn furiously attacks with Bubble. Yep, that's not a typo. Bubble. But it actually does do impressive damage to Colossoil, as it scored a critical hit. I guess the popping bubbles really annoyed Colossoil and Snorlax, as they look ready to rumble again.

Krilowatt once again gets the first attack in, soaking us all again with Surf. That includes Lanturn, who unsurprisingly did not mind the water at all, as it gets free healing via its Water Absorb ability. Colossoil has had enough of this shit though, and burrows under the... ground? Yeah, sure, that seems OK. Lanturn chimes in with another Surf, hitting Krilowatt and Snorlax, but it doesn't especially bother either of them. Snorlax then goes back on the offensive and smothers Lanturn with Body Slam. Did anyone else just feel the boat rock? Anyways, suddenly Colossoil comes back up to attack Lanturn with Dig. Or at least, it tries to, but the attack misses! That's really rough for Texas Cloverleaf, and also for Dogfish as it's just another example of him not actually being cursed by a voodoo priestess to have eternal bad luck or whatever. But probably more so for Texas.

It looks like Dogfish has the advantage right now, between being ahead slightly in HP, having options for his next two Pokemon, and most importantly ordering second next round. But I wouldn't count Texas out yet.

Action 1:
Krilowatt used Surf!
RNG Roll (Crit (Colossoil)) [<=625 Crit]: 5233/10000 (No)

That sad moment when the business of life resigns you to making poor orders in a winnable match :(

Necturna: Power Whip Lanturn ~ Power Whip Lanturn ~ Power Whip Lanturn
If Lanturn is under the effects of a Protective/Evasive move, redirect to Krillowatt that action and push back
If Krillowatt uses Dive without suspense when you are targetting it then Leaf Blade+Power Whip Krillowatt that action and push back

Snorlax: Body Slam Krillowatt ~ Double-Edge Krillowatt ~ Body Slam Krillowatt
If Lanturn is at 1 HP when you act, Toxic Lanturn that action and push back
If Krillowatt uses Counter when you are targetting it Solarbeam Krillowatt that action and push back

KO Sub for each: If your target is fainted, redirect to the other opponent

The first round not having gone his way, Texas tries to get a better matchup, switching out Colossoil for Necturna. Another OP Pokemon. Dogfish chooses not to counterswitch, as ordering second in doubles is almost all that matters.

The weakened Lanturn starts off by using Endure to protect itself. Just in time, as Necturna charges in with a strong Power Whip towards Lanturn, dealing enough damage to KO, though Lanturn manages to hang on just barely. Snorlax then, due to its substitution, uses Toxic on Lanturn. Things look really sour for the poor Lanturn, but Krilowatt comes to the rescue with a Discharge+Thunder Wave combination, which manages to damage and paralyze both of Texas Cloverleaf's Pokemon while healing Lanturn via its Volt Absorb ability before it would succumb to the poison damage. It looks like the attack also managed to crit Snorlax. But hey, maybe that crit will come back to bite Dogfish in the ass; it's happened before 9.9

Lanturn now faster than its opponents continues to protect itself, this time with Aqua Ring. It appears as though Dogfish's strategy is looking to keep Lanturn alive to have Snorlax futilely keep attacking it. Necturna again attacks Lanturn with Power Whip but can't break through the Endure, while Snorlax tries to poison Lanturn with Toxic again. But it's not enough to KO Lanturn, as Aqua Ring heals it just before it is damaged by the poison! Sidenote, sry shitty flavor, but the season premiere of The Blacklist starts in 5 minutes and I don't really care about whether this flavor is OK. Do people even read it?

Krilowatt, back in action, blasts a Hydro Pump at Snorlax. Snorlax takes the hit like the beefy wall it is, but it's definitely starting to feel worn down. Lanturn then grabs Necturna and uses Soak, turning it into a Water-type, which is pretty much the last thing you want to be in this gym. Necturna attempts to counterattack, but is fully paralyzed! That actually works out good for Texas, as it causes Snorlax's sub to not activate, and instead Snorlax uses Body Slam on Krilowatt, causing this round to not at least be a TOTAL waste for him.

All in all, not a great round for Texas, but the paralysis did help salvage it slightly. What'll happen next?

This round should be interesting. Texas is working from a very tight spot, but Dogfish's Pokemon are very weakened. If Texas can pick them off before having major damage dealt, he may have a shot at winning. But of course, Dogfish will not let that happen easily. Exemplifying this, Lanturn uses Agility to dodge Necturna's Shadow Sneak right off the bat! Then, Krilowatt zaps everything with Discharge again. Now Water-type, Necturna really feels the sting, and the highly weakened Snorlax doesn't seem to appreciate it either. On the other hand, Lanturn absorbs the electricity to get some precious health back. Dogfish's strategy of keeping Lanturn just on the edge of fainting is working.... but what's this?? Snorlax rocks the boat with Earthquake, doing impressive damage to Krilowatt and knocking out Lanturn! Necturna dodges the quake, having sensed it with its Telepathy. What a good strategy by Texas!

Krilowatt is down, but not out, and it zaps its opponents with Discharge once more. The voltage proves troublesome, as Necturna is fully paralyzed before it can deliver the final blow! Likewise, Snorlax is fully paralyzed before it can save itself from fainting. Right now, anything could manage to KO it... how unfortunate for Texas. Still, the paralysis could have stricken at a less opportune moment, so I guess he'd better just count his blessings.

Once more, Krilowatt fries the challenger's Pokemon with Discharge. Poor Snorlax can't take it anymore, and is knocked out! Able to move this time, Necturna rams into the shrimp with Horn Leech, sapping the last of its energy. Krilowatt is KOed! Now, the leader has 2 Pokemon down and 2 completely fresh and unknown Pokemon left. The challenger has 1 fainted Pokemon, 1 very weakened Pokemon, 1 moderately worn out Pokemon, and 1 Pokemon in reserve. Neither are particularly great positions to be in, but I think Dogfish has it slightly better right now. Especially because he's ordering second next round. That said, anything could happen!

In a flash, every Pokemon on the field is switched out. Dogfish replaces his fallen Pokemon with Electivire and Eelektross, while Texas switches out Necturna with Colossoil, and replaces Snorlax with Gardevoir. Colossoil immediately starts things off by... burrowing a hole in the ground... again. Electivire won't have any of it though, and furiously shakes the ship with Bulldoze, which manages to strike both of Texas's Pokemon. Colossoil is left quite weakened, and both Pokemon seem to have had their Speed lowered. In any case, I'd like to remind the passengers that there are emergency life boats located on either side of the ship. In the event that the ship starts to sink due to the FUGGIN HOLES PUT IN IT AND SEISMIC ACTIVITY INDUCED ON IT, please calmly make your way towards the nearest life boat. Well, anyways, Gardevoir doesn't seem to be concerned, and strikes Electivire with a powerful Moonblast. Eelektross covers for its teammate, shooting a gross Acid Spray all over Gardevoir, and sharply lowering Gardevoir's Special Defense. Ahh, what's this? More rumbling? Oh, suddenly Colossoil burts back onto the ship's deck and strikes Eelektross with Dig, doing a great amount of damage to Eelektross and the ship.

Not to be outdone in terms of terrifying the passengers, Electivire lets off another Bulldoze. Both Colossoil and Gardevoir are thoroughly shaken, and it looks like Colossoil can't take anymore as it falls to the ground, knocked out! Gardevoir has a hard time regaining balance, and it looks like the attack lowered Gardevoir's Speed even more. Gardevoir retaliates with Dazzling Gleam, striking both of Dogfish's Pokemon for pretty good damage, but then Eelektross counters with Acid Spray once more. The attack does even more damage this time, and continues to sharply lower Gardevoir's Special Defense. Gardevoir is pretty crippled at this point, having to face two opponents on its own. It's doing a decent job at keeping the damage race somewhat even, but I'm not sure if that will be enough.

Electivire can see this as well, and rubs it in with a Taunt. That's a very good move, as it will stop Gardevoir from using any of its tricks next round. Eelektross, now faster than Gardevoir, attacks again with Acid Spray. The attack once more sharply lowers Gardevoir's Special Defense, to the point where even the most basic special attacks should probably do decent damage. Either way, Gardevoir isn't out yet, and strikes back at Eelektross with a Moonblast. Gardevoir is fairly weakened at this point, but so are Dogfish's Pokemon. With Dogfish ordering first this round, can Texas pull ahead? Or will the debuffs to his Pokemon prove to be too much to work around? This next round will probably decide the outcome of the match!

I'm afraid I can't see this as a particularly winnable situation but I've gained enough knowledge of my own mistakes and places to improve upon ordering that you can be sure to see me back for what will hopefully be a final time.

With Colossoil withdrawn, Necturna is sent out once again. However, the quickest Pokemon to act is Gardevoir. Knowing it won't be able to take the hits of its opponents, Gardevoir strikes Eelektross with a speedy and powerful Shadow Sneak+Giga Impact! Dogfish's Pokemon respond in turn with Signal Beam from Electivire, and Acid from Eelektross, which manage to KO Gardevoir and deal some minor damage to Necturna. Necturna then retaliates with Seed Bomb, lowering Eelektross's HP to a critical level.

Despite the paralysis, Necturna then makes short work of Eelektross with Shadow Sneak. Eelektross is KOed! This match is now down to just two Pokemon, how crazy! Electivire strikes with Fire Punch, which is weakened from the slight rain but manages to burn Necturna. That's really unfortunate for Texas. He just can't seem to catch a break! The burn starts to damage Necturna... it could really be what tips the game in Dogfish's favor.

Electivire attacks again, this time with Ice Punch. Luckily for Texas, Necturna doesn't end up frozen. Necturna, in an attempt to even things up, uses Pain Split to equalize its HP with Electivire. Not a bad move, but now Necturna is fairly low on energy, and it actually ends up with slightly less HP than Electivire due to the burn. I guess things could have gone worse for Texas this round, but I don't know if he'll be able to pull of a win here.
