------------------

[Overview]

Elekid is a very fast, strong Pokemon in the Little Cup metagame. It is arguably the best of the Pokemon with 20 Speed due to its superb coverage and access to reliable priority. With a little bit of support, Elekid can easily sweep through teams that don’t have a Pokemon with Choice Scarf equipped. However, it is far from indomitable and has trouble with many common threats.

[SET]
name: Physical Kid
move1: ThunderPunch
move2: Cross Chop / Low Kick / Brick Break
move3: Ice Punch
move4: Quick Attack
item: Life Orb / Choice Band
ability: Static
nature: Jolly
evs: 252 Atk / 236 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Elekid is one of Little Cup’s premier physical sweepers. With access to a very wide variety of moves, Elekid is able to dispatch all but the most defensive of opponents in one or two hits. Munchlax falls to Cross Chop after Stealth Rock damage, Gligar is OHKOed by Ice Punch, and Mantyke cannot deal with ThunderPunch. Quick Attack allows Elekid to outpace Sucker Punch users and get a last-ditch hit in on Choice Scarf Pokemon. If Cross Chop's accuracy is too shaky, then Low Kick will easily dispatch of threats like Aron, Munchlax, and Onix with ease, while while dealing less damage to Chinchou, Porygon, and other lighter foes.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

As good as it is, however, physical Elekid does have quite a few shortcomings. Machop’s superb bulk and powerful STAB DynamicPunch presents an issue due to the fact that Machop often carries Choice Scarf, meaning it will typically outpace Elekid and OHKO with STAB DynamicPunch.

Elekid likes a pokemon who can scout for threats while also dealing damage to weaken your opponent's team. Choice Scarf Gligar can scout, weaken a team, and help Elekid switch-in safely all in one, making it Elekid's best friend. Gligar is also able to come in on Elekid’s Ground-type weakness with impunity. Scarf Mankey can also use U-turn quite effectively to slowly chip away your opponent’s health for Elekid’s endgame sweep. Anorith is a good user of Stealth Rock, as well as a good Rapid Spinner to allow Elekid and its U-turning partner to switch in without taking residual damage from entry hazards.

[SET]
name: MixKid
move1: Thunderbolt
move2: Ice Punch
move3: Low Kick / Cross Chop
move4: Hidden Power Grass / Psychic
item: Life Orb
ability: Static
nature: Hasty / Naive
evs: 92 Atk / 160 SpA / 240 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Elekid is also perfectly capable of running a mixed set thanks to its wide movepool, high Speed, and good attacking stats on both ends. Thunderbolt’s much higher Base Power affords it a stronger hit against most foes. Ice Punch again scores a nice KO on Gligar, and gets nearly-unresisted coverage combined with Thunderbolt. Low Kick can OHKO non-defensive Munchlax with Stealth Rock damage, but unfortunately misses out on the KO on Magnemite, which Cross Chop achieves. Hidden Power Grass allows Elekid another way to hit opposing Chinchou, while Psychic gives Elekid a sure-fire OHKO on Croagunk and Gastly.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

As strong as mixed Elekid can be, it has several downsides. The most significant of these is the power loss of Low Kick and Ice Punch as a result of EV splitting. It also lacks priority, meaning it can be revenge killed by weakened priority abusers that it would ordinarily be able to deal with easily. Moderately defensive Munchlax variants will also survive its Low Kick, get Oran Berry healing, and then KO back with Return or Earthquake.

Mixed Elekid's favorite partners are strong, Speed-boosting sweepers, such as Gligar, Mantyke, Chinchou, and Cranidos. Elekid’s ability to weaken most foes into KO range lets these cleaners get an easy sweep later in the game.

[Team Options]

Elekid’s best teammates are those who can weaken opponents or use its ability to hit nearly everything to net themselves a lategame sweep. Rock Polish Gligar can sweep effectively once Elekid has weakened the opposing team, as can Agility Mantyke. Porygon also likes having Elekid help its Speed boosted sweep, as it easily clears away Munchlax, a major hindrance to its sweep.

Houndour, Choice Scarf Gastly, and virtually any other special attackers appreciate the service Elekid does for them by killing Munchlax and Mantyke, the two most threatening special walls. Once Munchlax is down, Choice Scarf Gastly is usually very difficult to stop, only being truly beaten by Choice Scarf Houndour and Stunky. Houndour's ability to run a Substitute set lets it walk all over almost any opposing Pokemon barring Munchlax and Mantyke.

[Optional Changes]

Elekid can use Fire Punch to get better damage against Bronzor, who can threaten it with Earthquake. Meditate lets Elekid have reliable access to a boosting move, albeit a weak one. Screech lets Elekid OHKO most Pokemon with its wide coverage, though it does not like taking a hit to pull it off. Focus Sash is an option on any set barring SubKid to allow Elekid to revenge kill Choice Scarf users. Mantyke, Gligar, Gastly, and Mankey are all common users of Choice Scarf who can OHKO Elekid, but cannot beat it if it carries a Focus Sash.

Elekid’s EVs are fairly straightforward. Its Speed should always be as high as possible, as it hits the magical 20 Speed number, reached only by itself, Diglett, and Voltorb. When using Life Orb, Elekid uses an HP IV of zero, as that allows it to take one HP of damage per use of Life Orb rather than two. If Hidden Power Grass is used, Elekid should use an HP IV of two to retain the LO damage mitigation while keeping its Hidden Power type.

[Counters]

Elekid has difficulty with Bronzor, even when it uses its gimmicky Fire Punch, and is OHKOed by Earthquake. Physically defensive Munchlax is not OHKOed by Cross Chop, and gives variants lacking Substitute difficulty as it OHKOes Elekid back with Return or Earthquake. Pokemon that commonly use priority moves can also outpace and whittle down Elekid or bluff using priority and KO it outright, such as Croagunk and Houndour.

Wynaut can take advantage of Elekid to allow a teammate such as Gligar set up or KO it outright with Counter or Mirror Coat. Dratini can switch in on ThunderPunch and KO a weakened Elekid with ExtremeSpeed. Duskull has sufficient bulk to survive Elekid’s attacks and cripple it with Will-O-Wisp. Additionally, virtually any Pokemon wielding Choice Scarf that can take one of Elekid’s attacks will be able to defeat it. Chinchou and Gligar are particularly effective in that respect, both able to easily KO Elekid and survive the switch-in. Gligar must beware of Ice Punch of course, and Chinchou of Cross Chop.

As good as it is, however, Physical Kid does have quite a few shortcomings. Its worst problem is Misdreavus, who can survive a Thunderpunch, underspeed to set up a Substitute, and then Shadow Ball then Shadow Sneak its way to a dead Elekid who cannot hit it before it is Sneaked. Machop’s superb bulk and powerful STAB Dynamicpunch also presents an issue, particularly when one considers the fact that Machop often carries Scarf, meaning he will typically outspeed Elekid.

Elekid likes partners who can whittle down opposing Pokemon. Pokemon such as Scarf Gligar, who can U-Turn to Elekid upon a switch-in, let Elekid’s 2HKOs through Oran become OHKOs thanks to just one or two points of additional damage. move3: Ice Punch
move4: Focus Punch
item: Liechi Berry / Oran Berry / Leftovers
ability: Static
nature: Hasty / Naïve
evs: 252 Atk / 236 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Elekid, like nearly all Pokemon in Little Cup, can effectively abuse a Substitute. Elekid’s huge movepool and exceptional speed tends to force some switches, so getting a Substitute up is usually no mean feat. From there, Elekid can proceed to wreak havoc among most Pokemon. Focus Punch easily OHKOs any fighting-weak Pokemon and is actually stronger than Thunderpunch. Thunderpunch and Ice Punch are both able to deal with non-scarfed threats easily while letting Elekid maintain its sub.

Unlike the previous sets, Elekid’s item is up for debate here. Liechi Berry allows Elekid a much-appreciated attack boost, letting it rip through most Pokemon with ease. Oran Berry gives Elekid two additional substitutes. However, on Shoddy Battle 1, this does not work. Because of this, Leftovers are usable to give Elekid an additional sub over the course of 5 turns.

This Elekid is extremely effective but it does have a few shortcomings. Rock Blast Onix can prove difficult to defeat, as it will break your Sub and then prevent Elekid from using Focus Punch before KOing it next turn. Elekid’s Ice Punch will do laughable damage against Onix’s absurd 160 Base Defense and Thunderpunch doesn’t even affect it. (what happens when you use Focus Punch?)

SubKid’s best partners are Priority-abusers, such as Carvanha or Croagunk. Both easily dispatch Onix and other Pokemon that give Elekid trouble, such as Scarf Gastly. SubSneak Misdreavus is also a spectacular teammate, Hidden Power Fighting easily removing Onix and Shadow Ball and Shadow Sneak eliminating most other threats.

[Team Options]

Thanks to Elekid’s excellent stats and wide movepool, it is viable on a variety of teams. It likes strong, physically-oriented team-mates to eliminate its foes Munchlax and Magnemite. Elekid (???), Machop, Mankey and Gligar all fit this bill exceptionally well. Machop and Mankey can OHKO Munchlax with any of their STAB moves, while Elekid (???) can OHKO Munchlax with Cross Chop after Stealth Rock and Gligar outright beats Munchlax with its superb physical bulk and powerful STAB Earthquake. Gligar also complements Porygon in that it resists Porygon’s only weakness, Fighting. Misdreavus is also able to beat Munchlax and Magnemite one-on-one and is immune to Fighting. The fact that Porygon is immune to Ghost means that they work together excellently.

In the case of Trick Room variants of Porygon, a few other team-mates are viable. Munchlax, despite sharing a Fighting-weakness with Porygon, loves the Trick Room support and is exceptionally powerful. Machop is again usable, its mediocre speed allowing it to shine without need for a Scarf. Duskull and Gastly are both able to set up Trick Room and are both immune to the Fighting-type that Porygon hates so much. Cubone also enjoys Trick Room conditions with its mammoth attack thanks to Thick Club, low speed and powerful STAB to easily wipe out opposing Pokemon.

Slight problem here... these are Porygon's Team Options.

[Other Options]

Elekid can use Fire Punch to get better damage against Bronzor, who can threaten with Earthquake. Meditate lets Elekid have reliable access to a boosting move, albeit a weak one. Screech lets Elekid OHKO most Pokemon with its wide coverage, though it does not like taking a hit to pull it off.

If Hidden Power Grass is used, Elekid should use an HP IV of 2 to retain the LO damage mitigation while keeping its Hidden Power type.

Scarf Gligar can come in against Thunderpunch with impunity and OHKO Elekid that expect to outspeed it with Ice Punch.

Looks good... I corrected where I felt appropriate, only real problem I see is the Team Options section. Good job.

Team Options needs to explain much more, especially with a Pokemon like Elekid who brings barely any useful resists to the table. Also mention that its wall breaking/sweeping abilities balance that out, and what Pokemon it can assist offensively (like, destroying munchlax is a big benefit to half of LC).

set up a Substitute, and then Shadow Ball then Shadow Sneak its way to a dead Elekid is akward, mabye you could try something like set up a sub, Shadow Ball, then SS or something like that

just to say you missed some
marks (twice), maybe some checks in explanation, what would someone wanting to try Elekid need to use? I don't see anything at while reading through at the moment but i just felt a post for format reasons...

There is a bunch of stuff referring to the glitch still (like Porygon using 'speed-boosts')

Also, the Team Options in general is lacking.

Is there any particular reason not to use Low Kick over Cross Chop on Elekid? It has 100 BP against Munchlax, and a whopping 120 BP against Onix. As far as I know, Low Kick should be legal (obtainable on Elekid and Electabuzz by level up, according to Bulbapedia and Shoddy), and unlike Cross Chop, will not miss.

This should probably be updated to reflect Low Kick (assuming it is legal).

Hmmm....if there was a "Little Cup low kick" list thing, it would be helpful. Elekid uses Cross Chop for:

Porygon
Munchlax
Chinchou
Onix
Geodude

As long as it still KOes those (just off the top of my head), I think it might be a good idea.

My only concern is spread damage. For example, if something like Dratini / Bagon can lol and switch into Low Kick, you might have a problem.

thunderpunch and ice punch are still gonna hit geodude and porygon for good amounts of damage. chinchou is the important one, and cross chop might still be worth it.

i doubt low kick would ko chinchou, pory, or geodude but i think that not having to worry about missing, along with 2 of those 5 taking more or equal damage than from cross chop, would at least deserve a slash.

How much damage BP does Low Kick have on Pory/Chinchou then? That would decide if it's 100% better or just slash worthy imo.

Top 40 pokemon that Cross Chop is the main move against / power of cross chop against it / base power of Low Kick against it / Power of best non CC move (same as low kick if its the best)

All adjusted for STAB and SE hits.

Porygon 200 / 120 / 120
Munchlax 200 / 200 /200
Chinchou - 100 / 40 / (40 Low Kick / 140 HP Grass / 95 Psychic)
Onix - 200 / 240 / (240 Low Kick / 280 HP Grass)
Geodude - 200 / 80 / 150
Meowth - 200 / 40 / 112
Houndour - 200 / 80 / 112
Magnemite - 200 / 40 / (56 Thunderpunch)
Aron - 400 / 320 / 320
Eevee - 200 / 40 / 112
Snover - 200 / 160 / 160

You lose a significant amount of power against several key threats, but 20% acc is nice. I'd say both are fair options.

Yea I'd say a slash would be fair, mentioning that it fails versus Chinchou and the like, but that the accuracy is nice versus Munchlax.

On the mixed Elekid, I think it should be the main option though. Cross Chop is pretty much only for Munchlax on that set. It has HP Grass for Chinchou.

[23:07] <ete> the main thing I see for elekid
[23:07] <ete> is that the last 4 sections are kinda... small.
[23:07] <ete> Opinion and counters need to be at least double the size they are
[23:08] <Vader> mk
[23:08] <ete> and I'm sure OO can get significantly bigger
[23:08] <ete> with kid's great movepool/mixed stats
[23:08] <ete> is CB really viable?
[23:09] <ete> or can that go to OO?
[23:09] <Vader> do i have a CB set?
[23:09] <ete> you have Cb as a slash on the top set
[23:09] <Vader> ah
[23:09] <Vader> then i've used it at some point
[23:09] <Vader> but i can move that to OO
[23:09] <Vader> it can be very effective though
[23:10] <Vader> Missy thinks it can Sub against you? nope
[23:10] <ete> its a better CBer than most
[23:10] <ete> but, still has problems
[23:10] <Vader> well, all choice items have inherent problems
[23:10] <ete> risking a diggydeath every time you use a STAB move is :(

while Psychic gives Elekid a sure-fire OHKO on Croagunk and Gastly.
LO STAB Thunderbolt Vs standard Croagunk: 19 - 24 (100% - 126.32%)
LO STAB Thunderbolt Vs standard Gastly: 19 - 24 (105.56% - 133.33%)

I think Psychic should be in OO, not on the main set. It does get a clean 1KO on Machop, but then again Tbolt does 86.36% - 109.09% already, a 79.48% chance to OHKO with resisted SR up.

OO needs Counter, Double-Edge (stronger than a STAB Tpunch!), and Light Screen could get a mention.

[SET COMMENTS]

Elekid is one of Little Cup’s premier physical sweepers. With access to a very wide variety of moves, Elekid is able to dispatch all but the most defensive of opponents in one or two hits. Munchlax falls to Cross Chop after Stealth Rock damage, Gligar dies to Ice Punch, and Mantyke cannot deal with ThunderPunch. Quick Attack allows Elekid to outpace Sucker Punch users and get a last-ditch hit in on Choice Scarf Pokemon. If Cross Chop's accuracy is too shaky, then Low Kick will easily dispatch with threats like Aron, Munchlax and Onix with ease, while losing out on high damage to Chinchou, Porygon and other lighter foes.

As good as it is, however, Physical Kid does have quite a few shortcomings. Its worst problem is Misdreavus, who can survive a ThunderPunch, set up a Substitute, use Shadow Ball, and then Shadow Sneak Elekid for a KO. Machop’s superb bulk and powerful STAB DynamicPunch also presents an issue, particularly due to the fact that Machop often carries Choice Scarf, meaning it will typically outpace Elekid.

Elekid likes partners who can whittle down your opponent’s team, so Pokemon such as Scarf Gligar, who can U-turn to Elekid and then let Elekid 2HKO the Pokemon factoring in Oran Berry and the damage taken from U-turn. Gligar is also able to come in on Elekid’s Ground weakness with impunity. Scarf Mankey can also use U-turn quite effectively to slowly chip away your opponent’s health for Elekid’s endgame sweep. Anorith is a good user of Stealth Rock to help Elekid out, as well as a good Rapid Spinner to allow Elekid and its U-turning partner to switch with less residual damage.

nature: Hasty / Naive (American spelling)

[SET COMMENTS]

Elekid is also perfectly capable of running a mixed set thanks to its wide movepool, high Speed, and good attacking stats on both ends. Thunderbolt’s much higher Base Power affords it a stronger hit against most foes. Ice Punch again scores a nice KO on Gligar and gets nearly-unresisted coverage combined with Thunderbolt. Low Kick can OHKO non-defensive Munchlax with Stealth Rock damage, but unfortunately misses out on the KO on Magnemite, which Cross Chop achieves with ease. Hidden Power Grass allows Elekid another way to hit opposing Chinchou, while Psychic gives Elekid a sure-fire OHKO on Croagunk and Gastly.

As strong as mixed Elekid can be, it has several downsides. The most significant of these is the weakening of Low Kick and Ice Punch as a result of EV splitting. It also lacks priority, meaning it can be revenge killed by weakened priority abusers that it would ordinarily be able to deal with easily. Moderately defensive Munchlax variants will also survive its Low Kick, get Oran healing, and KO back with Return or Earthquake.

MixedKid’s (used the set's name) favorite partners are strong, Speed-boosting sweepers, such as Gligar, Mantyke, Chinchou, or Cranidos. Elekid’s ability to weaken most foes into KO range lets these cleaners get an easy sweep later in the game.

nature: Hasty / Naive

[SET COMMENTS]

Elekid, like nearly all Pokemon in Little Cup, can effectively abuse a Substitute. Elekid’s huge movepool and exceptional Speed tends to force some switches, so getting a Substitute up is usually no mean feat. From there, Elekid can proceed to wreak havoc on most Pokemon. Focus Punch easily OHKOes any Pokemon sporting a Fighting-type weakness and is actually stronger than ThunderPunch. ThunderPunch and Ice Punch are both able to deal with non-Scarfed threats easily while letting Elekid maintain its Substitute.

Unlike the previous sets, Elekid’s item is up for debate here. Liechi Berry allows Elekid a much appreciated Attack boost, letting it rip through most Pokemon with ease. Oran Berry, on the other hand, gives Elekid two additional Substitutes.

This Elekid is extremely effective but it does have a few shortcomings. Rock Blast Onix can prove difficult to defeat, as it will break your Substitute and then prevent Elekid from using Focus Punch before KOing it next turn. Elekid’s Ice Punch will do laughable damage against Onix’s absurd 160 base Defense and ThunderPunch doesn’t even affect it.

Elekid’s best teammates are those who can weaken opponents or use its ability to hit nearly everything to net themselves a late game sweep. Misdreavus is one of these Pokemon, as once Elekid has weakened the opposing team; Substitute + Shadow Sneak Misdreavus can almost always pull off a sweep. Rock Polish Gligar can sweep effectively once Elekid has weakened the opposing team, as can Agility Mantyke. Porygon also likes having Elekid help its Speed boosted sweep, as it easily clears away Munchlax, a major hindrance to Porygon's sweep.

Houndour, Scarf Gastly and virtually any other special attacker appreciate the service Elekid does for it by killing Munchlax and Mantyke, the two most threatening special walls. Once Munchlax is down, Scarf Gastly is usually very difficult to stop, only being truly beaten by Choice Scarf Houndour and Shadow Sneak Misdreavus. Houndour's ability to run Substitute set lets it walk all over almost any opposing Pokemon barring Munchlax and Mantyke.

Focus Sash is an option on any set barring SubKid to allow Elekid to revenge kill Scarfers. Mantyke, Gligar, Gastly, and Mankey are all common user of Choice Scarf who can OHKO Elekid, but cannot beat it if it carries a Sash.

Elekid’s EVs are fairly straightforward. Its Speed should always be as high as possible, as it hits the magical 20 Speed number, reached only by itself, Diglett, and Voltorb. When using Life Orb, Elekid uses an HP IV of zero, as that allows it to take one HP of damage per use of Life Orb, rather than two. If Hidden Power Grass is used, Elekid should use an HP IV of two to retain the Life Orb damage mitigation while retaining its Hidden Power type.

Elekid is a very fast, strong Pokemon in the Little Cup metagame. It is arguably the best of the 20-Speeders with its superb coverage and access to reliable priority. With a little bit of support, it can easily sweep through teams that don’t have a Choice Scarf Pokemon.

Elekid has difficulty with Bronzor, even when it uses gimmicky Fire Punch and is OHKOed by Earthquake. Super physically defensive Munchlax is not OHKOed by Cross Chop and gives variants lacking Substitute difficulty. Scarf Gligar can come in against ThunderPunch with impunity and OHKO Elekid that expect to outpace it and OHKO with Ice Punch

You should probably expand on the Counters section. I believe there are more ways to counter Elekid than just by using Bronzor, Scarf Gligar, or super defensive Munchlax. Here are a few:

1) Wynaut is capable of switching into any attack that Elekid throws at it and can use Encore or Counter to destroy it with ease.

2) I believe Paras is a reliable switch-in to Elekid, as I don't think that Ice Punch is capable of OHKOing; however, I'm not completely sure. I'll have to do a damage calculation to see.

3) Duskull can switch into Elekid relatively easily thanks to its high Defense and cripple it with Will-O-Wisp.

4) Priority attackers, specifically Pokemon like Croagunk and Houndour, can beat down Elekid as well. These two can also "force" Elekid to use Quick Attack to avoid being hit by their respective priority attacks, which means they can just use Cross Chop and Dark Pulse, respectively, instead.

5) You could mention that Scarfers that's faster than Elekid and gains a free switch-in from a predicted attack from Elekid are possible checks, such as the mention of Scarf Gligar. For instance, Scarf Chinchou can switch into ThunderPunch/Ice Punch and threaten to OHKO with Hydro Pump; Scarf Gastly can switch into Cross Chop or Quick Attack and OHKO it from there with Sludge Bomb; Scarf Snover can switch into ThunderPunch and OHKO with Blizzard; and Scarf Aron can switch into Ice Punch/Quick Attack and OHKO with Earthquake. There are probably many more options to choose from, but these are the ones I thought about off the top of my head.

All in all, expand on the Counters section. It's really lacking and there are lots of Pokemon that can counter/check Elekid.

In addition to that, Timid / Naive Misdreavus can revenge kill Elekid by surviving a ThunderPunch and OHKOing with Shadow Ball.

The metagame has changed quite a bit since this was written so I propose two major changes:

1. Removal of Choice band mentions on the set to OC.
2, Addition of a Choice Scarf set, with mentions of Rain support. This set is one of the best revenge killers simply because it is the fastest Choice Scarfer.

Vader, I was looking up some Pokemon, and Bulk Up Baton Pass Buizel can help out physical Kid by giving it an attack and defense boost, which can help it sweep better. hat can possibly go into team options.

Another note: Misdreavus is now Uber, so there is no need to mention it on the Physical Kid set.

In Little Cup most Pokemon have unused EVs because EVs work differently; you need more than 4 to get a stat point.
