Did you have a battle that had an interesting turn of events? Did you eek out a win despite all odds? Or did you just have a battle that was very good but not exactly warstory worthy?

Use this thread to post your amazing battles, but be wary, make sure it is entertaining and not just a Kakuna sweep, otherwise your post will be deleted and possibly even infracted!

Additionally don't just post logs! Use aesoft's Pokemon Online replay player!, these replays make battles much more fun than just reading lines of text.

This was maybe the single most fun game of Pokemon I've had in a long time. By the end I was planning out my moves 4-5 turns ahead. My opponent brought his jellicent into only one layer of t-spikes, preventing me from toxicing it. So with my spins blocked and many of my dudes walled I had to rely on Ferrothorn to take that jelly blob out. After Ferrothorn fell I didn't think I had a chance but kept trying, then I created a ploy to spin away the hazards by Perish Songing with Politoed to ensure Tentacruel could spin. After all that I was finally able to sweep with Dnite.

I'll be sure to keep track of this thread, "archiving" the really great replays. Try your best to come up with the best replays you can!

Ps. Remember you can use the replay/replay tags to show your replays right in your post! It's like magic!

    I think since I no longer play on the server it's safe to open my skull closet. I only kept these matches for their special meaning or I fought against respectable players....I ONLY DID THIS BECAUSE I WUV YOU ;_;

OK, I think from the replays below that my style is an opportunistic, hyper HO weatherless player who punches holes until a sweeper can dance/smash and rape:

And the fail train rolls on (open)

This is the fourth time I've signed up for a tournament--in this case, Eo's Proposition--only to lose 1-0 in the first round. The other three were an Arceus-legal DPP Ubers LNT (I must have been the only guy stupid enough to not take advantage of that); Who Needs Team Preview; and Lady Luck's Lottery, the last of which shouldn't have even been that close save for a min calc. To save space, I'd like to know what I did RIGHT so I can build on what I can do.

Xelgodis: First, put the URL of the replay in replay tags, then put all of THAT in hide tags. I learned how to do it from quoting others that did it successfully.

(oh wait...Eo's Prop is still running, isn't it? Ah well, he'll probably make a new team in accordance with the second round's restrictions, so hopefully this won't get me in trouble)

I don't often gush about replays, but that was absolutely fantastic. I loved watching you two go back and forth over the SR on your side of the field, and seeing you finally remove them permanently was amazing. If you're so inclined, I think it would be worth a warstory.

Oh, and Xelgodis, the tag in question is

Wow! X5Dragon, way to bring it haha. There are some seriously awesome replays in your skull closet, the one against Schweinsteiger in particular was a really great watch. I also enjoy how your team's core is so similar throughout those games with a few inter-changing members, gave your replays a sort of flow.

Thanks Acritter! I'm glad you enjoyed it; it would be cool to warstory if I find the time I just might.

Alexwolf, how come you didn't U-turn with your Scarfzor against his Alakazam right at the end? If he stayed in you'd have finished him and if he brought in Heatran you'd go out to Salamence and finish either one with an EQ. Just wondering?

Also Woodchuck, well played sir. Mono-rock is under appreciated, though I'll say Automize, Magnet Rise Aggron needs more love ;)

Keep 'um up guys! I'm sure everyone is loving watching all these awesome battles!

Mence was at 1% health, so he would die after switching in from ss... And anyway i did the calcs and Superpower was doing 48% min to Zam, and also ohkoes 43% Heatran (i had forgot about Protect), so i had no reason to go for U-turn...

Rapid Spin + Perish Song is very nice combo. I'll keep that in my mind for next time a Jellicent trolls my rain team. But you got really lucky in this match, that he missed his WOW on your Dragonite. Also he didn't catch on to your tactic quite well. On turn 58 I would have stayed in against your Tentacruel and killed it off with Scald. I would rather lose my Jellicent than my Stealth Rocks.

Just watched your replay, and I'd like to point out that Kyurem didn't really "change the course of the game". The game was already going your way: you'd gotten SR, two layers of Spikes, and your preferred weather condition. You only had to sacrifice your suicide hazardsetter and one wallbreaker to get there. At that point, you were just waiting for a solid cleaner to step in and crush through your opponent's team.

As an observer that enjoys theorymonning but doesn't play much, I just want to make one observation that I know may rock the boat, but I feel is important to bring up, when it comes to the entertainment value of these replays.

The person posting is almost always the winner. For a textbook example of what I mean, see X5Dragon's posts. He posted 31 replays, and they are entertaining to watch, without doubt. But I admit that I stopped watching them after I realised that he wins every single one. It's hard to maintain interest when you know that, despite being down 1-4, that he is going to win, because he won the last 8 replays he posted.

Now, I am certainly not blaming X5Dragon, or any other posters, for this trend. I know it's a difficult thing to address. It's a side-effect of the site's focus. This place attracts competitive-mind players - people that don't like losing. So it's rare for someone to save a log of their loss, and even rarer for them to "advertise" it.

What would be great for a thread like this, is a match log replay anonymizer. All it would need to do is:
    a) use a coin-flip to decide whether the winner is placed at top-right or bottom-left of screen, and
    b) blank/randomly assign trainer names to the two players.

This would be good, because people posting a bunch of replays (that they won) would still be able to post them without viewers knowing who is going to win in advance, and people could post matches where they lost and protect their ego, because we wouldn't know that they lost the match.

Anyways, just my 2c on the matter.

Well its the psychology behind it. If lose because your unlucky or they break through your team with the perfect pokemon, its BS hax, while if you win because you break through at a critical moment or have the best pokemon, well that was a great game sir.

Agreeing with the two posts above me. The best warstory I ever read happened to be the one where the writer lost. Winning does not a good replay make.

Thanks Joey yes I would rate my match against Shwiny to be my best yet and the team had such a good core that the other members can be changed to adapt the changing meta. You forcing your opponent to let you RS was a stroke of genius.

Umm I don't know why some guys are focusing on the who won part, it's how you won and how your opponent tried his best to defeat you. The comebacks, the holes you find yourself in, the unexpected critic/side effect, the inherit disadvantage against certain play styles, the experience, that is what you should be focusing on and I'm not embarrassed to say or pst a log where I lost but thus being a competitive site it's nice to remember the watershed moments when your acknowledged by your peers.

Also theory onion is great and all but f it isn't tested it's like those concepts in auto shows, beautiful yet imaginary.

Actually, no it isn't. It isn't all about 'how you won', or 'how your opponent tried his best'. It is about seeing a damned good battle regardless of who won or lost, simply for the tactics on both sides. I haven't got a problem with winning a game and showcasing it, but I do have a problem with only showcasing battles where you won.

Do you mean to say you haven't played a single good battle where you've lost? If not, why can't we find one among 31 replays? A good replay doesn't require you to win. It takes the fun out of it since the suspense flies out the window. Knowing the outcome makes it almost unwatchable.

It is refreshing to see a battle where the poster loses, since it puts you in their shoes and asks you 'what would you have done'.

There's no doubt that there's entertaiment value to be had even when you know from Turn 1 that the guy that posted it is going to win.

But equally, you can't honestly say that no entertainment value is lost, when you know who's going to win before it even starts. There's tension and suspense in a close match, and part of the reason it's exciting to watch a close match is because you don't know who's going to win.

As for focusing on winning v. losing, I couldn't help it. I came into the thread and started watching replays, as they can be entertaining (hence the title of the thread). It's also why I mentioned in the first sentence of my original post, that my comment was on the entertainment aspect of the replays being posted.

I'm not exactly sure what your comment at the end about theory onion is about - I am guessing you meant thorymonning and there's some auto-correct spelling shenanigans getting in the way.

Ultimately, I see the replay technology as a great way to engage with and attract people who are relatively new to the competitive battling scene, as it give these newcomers a chance to "see" a battle being played, rather than in days gone by where the only way to watch a battle was to read a battle log or warstory. There's still a place for both of those, but this replay function is great for showing newbies what a "real" battle looks like.

As such, like any other sport/hobby/game, I was just trying to point out that the trend of the poster effectively "spoiling" the result of the match by posting it is similar to someone seeing the score of a football match before watching it. It can still be entertaining and exciting, but something is lost.

A battle where it got to his Ttar against my Ferrothorn, and he says gg, being all cocky thinking he will win, hits me, but doesn't KO Ferro. I then use Power Whip and 1HKO him, I say gg lol, he then says he doesn't speak english. sore loser.

A battle where it gets left at 8% on his Suicine, and he just wins -.- Good battle though.
