Exeggutor (Analysis) [GP 2/2]

Yaa Man

[Overview]

<p>Arguably one of the strongest and most popular Pokemon of the RBY generation, Exeggutor's role in the fifth generation couldn't be further from his first generation counterpart. With the introduction of Drought into the OU metagame, Exeggutor can employ Chlorophyll to great effect by becoming a mean wallbreaker. Exeggutor's excellent movepool allows it to hit a variety of targets that might otherwise be problematic for sun teams. However, Exeggutor's new role in BW does have its drawbacks. Unlike his first generation counterpart, Exeggutor has atrocious Special Defense, meaning even resisted special hits can dent it. Furthermore, Chlorophyll can only do so much to improve his speed since his base 55 Speed leaves him slower than many Choice Scarf users, even after Chlorophyll's boost. But with the right teammates, Exeggutor will surely prove that two, possibly three, heads are better than one.</p>

[SET COMMENTS]

<p>What pops out immediately when looking at Exeggutor's stats are his massive base 125 Special Attack and decent base 95 Attack, which can allow him to go mixed. For many sun teams and Chlorophyll sweepers, Heatran and Tyranitar are problematic—Exeggutor has the ability to lure them both in and OHKO with Nature Power and Wood Hammer respectively, allowing for other offensive teammates to sweep. Exeggutor isn't limited to hurting just Heatran and Tyranitar as it has the coverage and the Speed in the sun to dent just about any target.</p>

<p>In the first slot a special STAB of choice is used to hammer targets from Exeggutor's massive Special Attack stat. Leaf Storm is Exeggutor's most powerful move and the resulting Special Attack drop does not affect the power of his physical attacks. However, Psychic is an equally good option, being able to hit Dragonite and the omnipresent Tornadus and Thundurus-T hard. Psychic also comes with the benefit of having a consistent Special Attack to work off of and not conflicting with Wood Hammer in terms of coverage. Speaking of Wood Hammer, it is Exeggutor's primary physical STAB attack with huge amount of power. Even though it causes recoil that could stack up with Life Orb, its power is appreciated for the ability to OHKO 252 HP / 0 Def Tyranitar with the given EVs. Exeggutor's second target, Heatran, is handily KOed by Nature Power which becomes Earthquake in Wi-Fi and simulator battles.</p>

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

<p>In the last slot, Exeggutor can choose between Hidden Power Fire and Sleep Powder. Hidden Power Fire can be used to hit the large amount of Steel-types that could wall Exeggutor and gives him another pseudo-STAB in the sun. However, Sleep Powder can be used to take an opponent's Pokemon right out of the match, which is very helpful for the offensive teams that Exeggutor finds himself on. When using Nature Power it is important to note that it counts as a non-attacking move, so it is stopped by Taunt, but it also means Exeggutor can work around Sucker Punch users it might fall prey to. It is possible to run a Naive nature to outspeed positively natured Choice Scarf Salamence, but it does compromise Exeggutor's power.</p>

<p>Exeggutor should always be paired up with Ninetales. However on a sun team, Exeggutor is best paired with Chlorophyll sweepers. While being paired with other Chlorophyll sweepers, Exeggutor can break down the Pokemon that would impair their sweep. Faster Chlorophyll sweepers, such as Venusaur and Victreebel, can assist Exeggutor in return by outspeeding the Choice Scarf users who would threaten it, such as Scarf Landorus. Pokemon that enjoy Heatran and Tyranitar removed also make good partners with Exeggutor. Volcarona is one of the best, since it can sweep teams that rely on Heatran to check it and it can set up on Scizor, a Pokemon who may give Exeggutor trouble. Since Exeggutor runs Life Orb and most likely will be using Wood Hammer, minimizing entry hazard damage will help with his already short longevity. Forretress and Donphan make great choices for spinners on sun teams and they both offer Stealth Rock to assist Exeggutor achieve some KOs.</p>

[SET]
name: Special Attacker
move 1: Leaf Storm
move 2: Psyshock / Psychic
move 3: Hidden Power Fire
move 4: Giga Drain / Nature Power / Sleep Powder
item: Life Orb / Choice Specs
ability: Chlorophyll
nature: Modest / Rash
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

<p>Having the highest Special Attack stat out of all Chlorophyll users means an all-out special attacking set is a natural choice for Exeggutor. Under the sun Exeggutor can outspeed all of the unboosted OU metagame, meaning it can release his power to its full potential. Given the opportunities to do damage to the opponent's team, they will quickly find themselves worn down after repeated hits. Leaf Storm is the crux of this set as it can cause a huge amount of damage to those who even resist it, such as doing over half to Latios. While Leaf Storm's power is immense, it should be used with caution due to the Special Attack drop which is quite limiting to an all special set. For a secondary STAB Psyshock or Psychic can be used. Psyshock is the preferred STAB move as it can break through both Blissey and Chansey, a great asset for a special attacker. In the third slot, Hidden Power Fire is used for valuable coverage against Steel-types and a third "STAB" option in the sun. Overall, an all-out attacking special set will keep the opponent guessing.</p>

<p>The choice between Life Orb and Choice Specs makes all the difference on how Exeggutor will be played throughout the match, so one should choose wisely. Life Orb means Exeggutor has much more staying power to hit available targets and lightens up on prediction. Both of these factors given him greater capacity as a sweeper. Meanwhile, Choice Specs offers better longevity and power, but is reliant on prediction. If one opts to go with Choice Specs, Exeggutor becomes a powerful wallbreaker for sun teams and it can check threats better in sunlight, including Keldeo. Both are equally good options, but the item selection should be done on what role Exeggutor fits best on your team.</p>

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

<p>In the last slot, a variety of options can be chosen with each bringing various benefits. Giga Drain is the primary choice because it gives Exeggutor a Grass-type STAB that is consistent and allows him to recover Life Orb recoil; however, it is out of place on the Choice Specs variant. If you find Heatran to wall Exeggutor too easily, Nature Power can be used to remove a weakened Heatran from the field. Lastly, Sleep Powder can be used to cripple an opponent's Pokemon, an invaluable asset to use on something as powerful as Exeggutor. Low Kick is not suggested to be used due to Leaf Storm already doing a hefty chunk to Tyranitar and being too weak to do any real damage to Heatran.</p>

<p>Of course, to get Exeggutor to function at its best, Drought Ninetales is a must to pair with Exeggutor. As for offensive teammates to pair with, those that can remove the pesky specially defensive Dragon-types and Heatran from the field are appreciated. Snorlax is excellent for this purpose on a sun team, as it can sponge special attacks from Dragon-types with relative ease and can smack them with a powerful Normal STAB move or trap them with Pursuit. It can also come in on Heatran thanks to Thick Fat and OHKO it with Earthquake. Dugtrio is also useful, because it can trap Heatran and proceed to KO it with a STAB Earthquake. An accompanying Chlorophyll sweeper can be used as a dynamic offensive duo to weaken each other's counters. Venusaur is the best, because it has the potential to weaken the counters of Chlorophyll sweepers or lure them in with a physical set using either Return or Earthquake to target Latias or Heatran, respectively.</p>

[SET]
name: Swords Dance
move 1: Swords Dance
move 2: Wood Hammer / Seed Bomb
move 3: Low Kick / Nature Power
move 4: Zen Headbutt / Hidden Power Fire
item: Life Orb
ability: Chlorophyll
nature: Adamant / Naughty
evs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

<p>While Exeggutor's stat spread indicates otherwise, Exeggutor can in fact make great use of Swords Dance to become a frightening sweeper. Normally, Chlorophyll sweepers draw their power from their special attacking prowess; however, Exeggutor with Swords Dance provides an unexpected, yet effective, option. Swords Dance is Exeggutor's best boosting move and it takes advantage of Exeggutor's limited but precise physical movepool. Exeggutor is one of the few Pokemon to get Wood Hammer, the strongest physical Grass-type attack, in its movepool. Stacked on top of STAB, a Swords Dance boost, and the Speed provide by the sun, teams without a strong Grass resist will crumble. For example, after a Swords Dance even Latios will find himself always OHKOed by Wood Hammer with Stealth Rock, and has a good chance of being KOed even without. Although Seed Bomb could be used to prevent recoil damage from accumulating, the power drop from Wood Hammer is quite significant.</p>

<p>Where Swords Dance Exeggutor really shines is its ability effortlessly KO both Heatran and Tyranitar, Pokemon who are otherwise problematic for sun teams. Both Nature Power and Low Kick take care of Heatran and Tyranitar, the latter without incurring crippling Wood Hammer recoil. The choice is dependent on which Steel-types you would like to target and take out. With Low Kick, you will be able to take care of Ferrothorn easily as well as have the capability to hit Hydreigon hard. However, Low Kick can do nothing to Jirachi and does not obtain the OHKO on Metagross as Nature Power would be able to do. Nature Power can also be used to bypass Sucker Punch users. Nevertheless, Low Kick is the preferred option due to it being able to hit a larger variety of targets.</p>

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

<p>In the last slot Zen Headbutt can be used as a secondary STAB move. Zen Headbutt with Low Kick offers great coverage and Zen Headbutt receives STAB. It is also the best option to hit targets that resist Wood Hammer that are not Steel-type. Dragonite, Salamence, and the popular Tornadus-T all take a large amount of damage from Zen Headbutt. Zen Headbutt is also great for having the ability to use a STAB move outside of the recoil-causing Wood Hammer. However, if you find Steel-types problematic, especially Skarmory and Scizor, Hidden Power Fire can be used instead. Because of the sun, Life Orb, and Exeggutor's naturally high Special Attack stat, it still retains the ability to OHKO both of these threats after Stealth Rock with ease. Take note that Hidden Power Fire is an inferior option because the Fire moves to take care of Steel-types are in ample supply and power already on sun teams.</p>

<p>Unlike other Exeggutor sets, Swords Dance Exeggutor is almost entirely physical, and thus will need very different teammates. Latias has the ability to resist Exeggutor's entire moveset, threaten heavy damage with Dragon Pulse, and simply Recover off damage. Meanwhile, Choice Scarf Latios has the ability to outspeed and possibly KO Exeggutor with Draco Metoer or Hidden Power Fire. Thus, Snorlax makes an excellent partner for Exeggutor, handily sponging the special moves Latios and Latias can dish out and being able to remove them with Crunch or Pursuit. Magnezone can be used to trap and destroy the Steel-types that give Exeggutor trouble, and it enjoys the boost that sun gives Hidden Power Fire. Exeggutor should use Wood Hammer, so a Rapid Spin user, such as Donphan or Forretress, should be used to extend his lifespan from recoil damage. Lastly, Exeggutor is best used with an offensive partner that can soften up or outright kill Steel-types. Salamence and Dragonite are excellent in this regard due to being able to lure out Steel-types and receiving a boost to their Fire-type attacks in sunlight.</p>

[Other Options]

<p>Like many other Grass-types, Exeggutor can employ a SubSeed set and, depending on its ability of choice, it can play in two different styles. With Chlorophyll, Exeggutor acts as a fast SubSeed user and a decent check to Fighting-types with its good physical bulk. Interestingly, with Harvest and Sitrus Berry, Exeggutor is one of the only SubSeed users that can completely recover the health lost from a Substitute. But when running Harvest Exeggutor will be very slow, so caution should be taken against faster special attackers. Generally, Exeggutor's SubSeed sets are mediocre and are better done by other Pokemon who could do it similarly but are either faster and more reliable, such as Venusaur and Breloom, respectively.</p>

<p>Exeggutor can use Sunny Day, giving his team a backup source of sun if Ninetales faints. With a SunnyBeam set, Exeggutor can use SolarBeam, which does not drop his Special Attack life Leaf Storm. However, Exeggutor will find himself in a pickle when he has to skirt around using it as his main STAB move and will be liable to being Pursuit trapped if Tyranitar switches in. Lastly, Exeggutor can support his team and use Trick Room on his own with his low Speed. As one of the only Pokemon with Trick Room and a more reliable sleeping move than Hypnosis in Sleep Powder, he can find a free turn to set up Trick Room easily. Note if you do use a Trick Room set that it is necessary to put Harvest as the ability to make sure Exeggutor doesn't get a Speed boost in sunlight!</p>

[Checks and Counters]

<p>While Exeggutor is powerful, he falls to Pokemon who can prey on his pitiful Special Defense. Latios and Latias resist every attack he commonly carries and can damage him with their Dragon-type moves and high Special Attack. Volcarona resists his Grass-type attacks and proceed to set up Quiver Dance or outright KO Exeggutor with Bug Buzz or Fiery Dance. Without a Psychic STAB or Hidden Power Ice, Dragonite can take a hit buffered by Multiscale and hit back with a sun-boosted Fire move. While Exeggutor has decent physical bulk, Scizor is a threat, as it can come in on a predicted Grass-type attack and can KO weakened Exeggutor with Bullet Punch or Pursuit trap him. While Exeggutor can remove most Tyranitar, Choice Scarf Tyranitar makes an excellent check, because it can remove sunlight, allowing it to outspeed and KO Exeggutor with either Pursuit or Crunch. Choice Scarf Terrakion and Choice Scarf Landorus can outspeed and hit with a 4x super effective X-Scissor or U-turn, respectively, to KO Exeggutor. Lastly, if Exeggutor lacks either Low Kick or Nature Power, Heatran can wall it like many other Chlorophyll users. Generally, what counters Exeggutor is fully dependent on its moveset.</p>

This has nothing over Venusaur, except maybe Explosion. This set still losses to Heatran like Venusaur, but Venusaur's mixed set can take down Heatran with Eartquake. SD Scizor sets up all over this set, so at least make HP Fire the main stat.

every other chlorophyll user has a better niche than this dude. Shiftry can take out Politoed and Tyranitar out of sun and has STAB Sucker Punch. That rose pedal thing(forgot the name -_-) takes out Tyranitar outside of sun and can play a supportive role. Venusaur can run subseed, all out attacker and mixed, no to mention it's bulky. What does this have over those guys?

Pretty much what Sir said. Venasaur can run nearly the game set, with Growth over Explosion making a better mixed sweeper. It can *gasp* OHKO Tran and TTar after a Growth with EQ, not to mention having great bulk and not being weak to Pursuit and Sucker Punch. The real problem this has besides being outclassed is not being usable out of the Sun. Also, Vicitini walls you to hell and back and so do most Steels without HP Fire. Honestly, what is Phychic hitting? If you're gonna go with this add Vicitini, S.Def Skarm and Lati@s to counters. You can't touch Latias. Explosion does 80% max to 252 HP. Try to differentiate this thing from other mixed sweepers like Venasaur, Victreebel and Shiftry. Good luck.

Exeggutor always 2 shots the Heatran switchin and even then can still do >50% with Low Kick. Almost every lure I have seen hits its "counter" hard on the switch in. This Exegguttor is going to be used on Sun teams and if SD is sweeping a Sun team which ussually carries two Fire types there is a bigger problem. That's why I suggested Bulky Volcarona as a partner since it can switch in and resist Scizor's moves, fish for the burn, and proceed with Morning Sun or the kill. Anyway, even if you choose Venasaur to go mixed, you get walled by something because of its terrible 3MSS. Dragonite, Heatran, Lati@s, or Blissey/Chansey is essentially which one causes you trouble in the Sun. This aims to get around that. Also Exeggutor has much more initial power than all of them (alright Shiftry has more power physically with its EV's. BST wise Eggy only has 5 atk. less with 25 more spa.)

Mixed Saur has to choose between being walled by Latias/Dragonite (EQ) or *gasp* Heatran himself (Return). So you are still left up in the air on what will give you trouble for your Sun team. How can I not touch Latias if I do 67%-80% while I outspeed in the Sun (72-85% with the alternative spread)? More importantly Venusaur is really weak without his boosts, Eggy on the special side isn't. It may sound odd, but being Dark weak is the reason Ttar is lured into Eggy whereas Ttar won't really come in on Saur until after it kills something. Eggy differentiates itself from Saur from being stronger specially while still being able to take out counters without boosts and retaining that special power. Victreebel is still walled by Heatran in the Sun even though its mixed and is frail as hell so it can't switch into anything (or take any priority for that matter). Shiftry is frailer still (can't switch in), weaker specially, and is hit harder by priority that is why more common (aka mach punch). Eggy is more resilient to priority than Saur (sucker punch is used by two guys in OU, and one is super weak). Like I said if you are concerned about Scizor you can use HP Fire. The two biggest pursuiters (CB Scizor and TTar) in OU are one shotted with HP Fire and Low Kick respectively. Scarftar (which no one uses) outspeeds but has a 56% chance of not killing eggy when it stays and potentially being OHKO'ed.

Basically Exeggutor isn't meant to be a sweeper, I never intended it to be that way. I intended him to be a lure for both of them while still be workable in Sun with Chlorophyll. Saur can't run a powerful Solarbeam while systematically being able to take down DNite, Ttar, and Tran. BTW Psychic even with the alternative spread (with SR down) will put 248/100+ Heatran at 68%-65% health, meaning it can be hit with 57%-68% damage by Low Kick (i.e. 11% health min). So after two SR switches (which should be easy to force with only sun sweepers) Heatran is KO'ed.

I dont discourage the set, jut try to explain why I should use this. And I still don't see why psychic is still even there because it doesn't hit anything important for SE damage. Also mention HP ice to hit dragons. And I stick to saying Latias is a counter because you cant touch it without killing yourself. This thing also deteriorates quickly between LO and switching in. Eggy us about as bulky as Saur, but weaker specially. The only thing is unless you predict the switch, ttar comes in, outspends and pursuits. Say that you should stay in if such a kerfuffle, because if you tank the hit you can KO back. Maybe also mention a spread that suits that. Good luck.

Please note that if this set ends up being approved you'll have to write a full OU analysis since Exeggutor does not have one at present.

I think max speed is not necessary, just 198 speed to outspeed min speed politoed, heatran, skarmory, and outspeed base 130 in the sun.

Mention Leaf Storm in the set?

If you're going to use this, you should definitely consider Leaf Storm. It nails things like Reuniclus(85.14 - 100.47%), Tentacruel(74.45 - 88.18%) and Gengar(76.71 - 90.45%) for big damage, hits Tyranitar extremely hard even if you mispredict(or it has Chople), as well as guaranteeing the OHKO on stuff like Conkeldurr, Gliscor, Gyarados and Vaporeon. Plus, it's something that Chlorophyll Venusaur can't do, which may be more important for saving this set. I would also drop Psychic, there's basically nothing important that it hits if you have Leaf Storm except maybe Toxicroak(who gets hit hard by Leaf Storm anyway).

Not saying that I am approving this set yet, but just from looking Eggy needs a +Spe Nature if it wants to revenge mons like +1 Haxorus, Salamence, and Volcarona without positive Nature. It also lets Eggy be faster than Scarf Rotom-W and Adamant Scarf Darmanitan. It is still slower than Scarf Landorus and Scarf Terrakion, which is a let down.

And yea, Leaf Storm > Giga Drain / SolarBeam. Giga Drain is too weak and SolarBeam gets screwed over by other weather inducers that Eggy should be annihilating. I also think Eggy needs Psychic AND HP Fire to revenge kill Dragons / Flying-types and destroy Steels respectively. Low Kick can be slashed with Explosion, imo. I believe Sleep Powder also deserves a slash in the place of Explosion, but let's see.

My issue with Psychic was Leaf Storm/Low Kick/HP Fire/Psychic leaves you helpless against Latias/Latios as well as missing the OHKO on offensive Dragonite with Psychic. I'll try to test this later despite how much I dislike playing Sun :x

Having just tried this set out of curiosity, I found that Venusaur with Earthquake was better, and that Psychic and Explosion didn't make up for the much better speed, Special Bulk, and most importantly, GROWTH.

Apparently I forgot to turn on saving logs because this is a new laptop. x_X Perhaps for the best anyway, because my inexperince with sun teas showed. Nonetheless, here's a few things I gathered using Leaf Storm/HP Fire/Low Kick/Explosion:

+Hits really hard without needing setup. Being able to get a clean OHKO on Vaporeon, Jellicent, non-Scarf Landorus, and Gyarados was terrific.
+Extra physical bulk over Venusaur was nice. It allowed me to do stuff like switch into a Scarf Terrakion's Close Combat and force it out, whereas Venusaur would almost certainly by 2HKO'd after SR despite resisting it if it had a -Def nature(like the on-site set does). It also forced the opponent to wear Exeggutor down a bit more from LO recoil before trying to take it out with Scizor.
+Ground resistance was very handy for handling stuff like Hippowdon, Landorus locked into Earthquake, and Gliscor without Acrobatics(even a +2 Ice Fang only does 73% max) when you couldn't outspeed it in neutral weather.
+Good chance at a 2HKO on Chansey and guaranteed with Blissey after SR. Was a pretty easy prediction as nobody hesitated to bring them in.
-Even with a +Spe nature, was still too slow to beat out Scarf Landorus and Terrakion as Pocket said, which unfortunately cost me a match. However, the same can be said of Venusaur without a +Spe nature. Pocket is right, though, +Spe is definitely the way to go.
-Lack of special bulk hurt. Even if I hadn't used a -SpD nature, its special defense was piss poor. Sun made this less of a problem, but taking random HP Ice/Fires hurt
~Psychic typing not nearly the liability that I expected it would be. Speaking of Psychic, I didn't really miss it. It was a bit of a pain having to predict and Explode on Salamence, but the power of Explosion against other things like Dragonite was too valuable to pass up.

Personally, I think it has merit, but hopefully someone more skilled(and better with sun teams lol) will test this as well. I'll give it another shot later and remember to enable logging. :P

what if you're already running Venusaur and want a secondary Chlorophyll sweeper? What if Venusaur is your victory condition and you want something to weaken it's counters? Being 'outclassed' isn't the catch-all justification for rejection that many people seem to think it is.

This clearly isn't a sweeper; it's a holepuncer - so I'd like to see Leaf Storm mentioned somewhere. Eggy's primary advantage over the other Chloro sweepers is his much higher SpA so don't faff around with weak Giga Drains or what-have-you. Come in, Leaf Storm shit, then use Sleep Powder (or Explosion if you must) to bypass the SpA drop and buy yourself a free switch. Come in and wreck shit again later.

Sleep Powder is a much better option than 12 Atk Explosion in my eyes. Venusaur often can't fit it on his set due to 4MSS so Eggy can take the slack and use it to cripple stuff like Jirachi and Latias that otherwise might halt this set and threaten Venusaur's sweep later on (as well as facilitating the use of Leaf Storm like I mentioned above).

stick with Rash to get the most out of that SpA stat (it's why you're using him after all). you already outrun +1 Adamant Nite and you're still not outrunning Scarf Landorus or Scarf Terrakion and you don't really have the means to KO +1 Volcarona besides. Let Venusaur handle the revenge killing. Eggy can just worry about hitting hard.

Sun HP Fire vs 252/252+ Jirachi = 56.44% - 66.83%
Sun HP Fire vs 4/0 Celebi = 92.40% - 109.36%
Leaf Storm vs 252/0 Reuniclus = 85.85% - 101.18%
Leaf Storm vs 4/0 Gyarados = 95.18% - 112.35%
Leaf Storm vs 252/0 Tyranitar (Sand) = 104.46% - 123.76%
Leaf Storm vs 252/252+ Tyranitar (Sand) = 75.74% - 89.11%
Psychic vs 4/0 Dragonite = 62.96% - 74.38%

Not sure what the optimal moveset is, maybe something like:

1. Leaf Storm
2. Hidden Power Fire
3. Sleep Powder
4. Psychic / Low Kick / Explosion

Leaf Storm somewhat mitigates the need for Low Kick (see Tyranitar calcs) so you can pop for one of the complimentary attacks in it's place. But dealing 60~% to 252/0 Heatran is pretty beneficial to a Venusaur sweep, as is the ability to down Tyranitar regardless of Leaf Storm SpA drops. Psychic is consistent and hits hard enough to OHKO Landorus after SR just to give you an idea. I'm not a huge fan of Explosion here but it can buy a free switch, KO certain problematic Pokemon like Latios and Volcarona and deal about 70% to Blissey so fair dues.

Maybe give Nature Power an AC mention because it OHKO's Heatran and I promise you they won't see it coming! It just about 2HKOs Tyranitar after SR too so it's sort of the inverse of Low Kick - Low Kick OHKO's Tar and 2HKOs Heatran while Nature Power OHKOs Heatran and 2HKOs Tar.

Using this set as Lee says, I think it has some opportunities. Make sure you mention Eggy's bulk ALOT which seperates it from things like Shiftry and Victreebel that can do nearly the same thing. I think this thing's main advantage is its superior Spa when compared to other Chlorophyll users which nets it KO's other things can't. Only thing I have to recommend is HP Ice to catch Landorus and misc Dragons. If you shift the focus to what Lee said, I think this can be a successful set. This thing can hit hard, but it can't exactly sweep.

Yup having read through this I definitely have to give the nod to what Lee said. Seems like a damn good way to help with the weather war and to weaken Venusaur's counters. Honestly, I'd probably shit my pants now if I saw both this and Venusaur on my opponent's team, because between the two of them my team would be utterly screwed. Definitely worthy of being a second string Chlorophyl sweeper on a high offense Sun team.

Onto specifics: I definitely agree with Leaf Storm, as it takes advantage of Exeggutor's strengths the best and has great surprise factor because in this day and age no one remembers that it has 125 base SpA... until it OHKO's their Ttar. I'd probably make HP Fire the main slash instead of Psychic, since Leaf Storm hits most things Psychic hits hard enough anyway, whereas the psuedo Stab boosted HP Fire will mess tremendously with any Steel type not named Heatran. Sleep Powder should definitely be a main slash in the third spot, as it frees up Venusaur to run more coverage moves to facilitate its eventual sweep and is a little something to differentiate it from Shiftry and Sawsbuck. Besides, since when has Sleep Powder not been useful? Finally the last spot can be Explosion, Low Kick, or Nature Power, depending on what you need taken out most. Explosion can also be slashed with Sleep Powder since they have more or less the same goal; obliterate a Pokemon you couldn't deal with otherwise.

So yeah, there's my two cents (and my bump) so this thing can get added. I don't see why this wouldn't deserve an OU analysis whereas Shiftry does. I just hope you get back to this soon :P

I haven't abandoned Eggy, but I have played with him more. I've always paired him up with Venausaur, but Leaf Storm makes him a totally different Poke. In my log below, Eggy did a bit over half to Latios! So far here is my favorite moveset: Leaf Storm / Hidden Power Fire / Nature Power / Explosion. IMO Nature Power>Low Kick. Leaf Storm decimates Ttar so much that Nature Power can be used to follow it up for the KO or you can cause TTar to switch 2 times into SR if its Max/Max+. Nature Power also has the odd quirk of bypassing Sucker Punch users, which is good since Toxicroak is hit supereffectively and you resist Duggy's STAB. I would keep HP Fire since it hits Steels the hardest and gets pseudo-stab in the Sun.

BTW to showcase Eggy's nice bulk it took about 30% from Landorus' EQ.

by the looks of it exeggutor is very powerful although it still does have it fair share of faults, its special bulk is poor so anything that can survive a hit should be able to nail it with a fire blast, ice beam, draco meteor ect. And even after the chlorophyll boost it is still relativity slow, being outspeed by one of the most dangerous pokemon in the metagame (terrakion) is never very good.
that is not to say it is without it's good points, it is almost definite to win the weather war if the opponent switches in, although t-tar can pursuit trap it, it seems down right terrifying when paired with a CB darmanitan or something and i would imagine it makes for a potent wall braking combo.

Leaf storm should defiantly be first choice with hp fire, low kick and sleep powder following.
i have spent more time on this than my essay that is due in for tommorow lol

Probably EQ over Low Kick. No real reason to use Low Kick if Leaf Storm can deal that much damage to TTar under sand. Exegg so beast.

"Powerful but with faults" definitely deserves an OU analysis.

I just edited the slashes, all I need is a bit more help on what the EV spread should be. I think QC checks can be done now.

I gave this thing a few quick goes (with Nature Power and Hidden Power Fire for the best coverage possible), and was pretty impressed with the amount of damage it can do while it's alive, especially in the case of Heatran, Tyranitar, and Ferrothorn. Like Jimera said, if Shiftry has an analysis, then so should this.

I don't really have any objection or anything to tell you to add for the set at the moment, but I'd like you to turn this into an OU analysis so I see what's happening before I approve this on the whole.

Yea, Exeggutor needs an Overview, Other Options, and Checks and Counters

I don't think I see the value in this set, but I think that's because it has potential, but hasn't reached it.

When it comes to comparison with other grass types in the tier, I think Mixed Exeggutor performs poorly. Even mixed or not, the other grass types perform better.

To get a better, more relate-able example, Venusaur does everything Exeggutor does, but better. It runs chlorophyll, but is able to run EQ for Heatran. Plus, Venusaur has growth which can let it turn itself into a sweeper, which Exeggutor can't do. Venusaur can also run both physical and special stab much better than Exeggutor, so my question again is, what is the value of mixed exeggutor? What about it would make me want to choose it over Venusaur?

Another thing to do is compare it with some other Chlorophyll users. Shiftry can KO Politoed and TTar, enemy weather starters, as well as hit practically every water type for a HUGE hit; plus run STAB dark to catch psychics and ghosts alike.

Exeggutor's psychic typing is a major weakness. Pursuit weak and not very defensively inclined (What does it give, a fighting resist? Its too frail to handle something like Terakion's Close combat).

Also, explosion from an Exeggutor seems underwhelming, especially with the nerf this gen, perhaps try Hidden Power fire to stop the steels that wall him, specifically SD Scizor.

The set isn't all that bad though. I can definitely see it nabbing some surprise KOs on pokemons that thought they had the fight. TTar for example, I can definitely see staying in on a low kick or boosted leaf storm and getting destroyed. IF YOU PUT IN HIDDEN POWER FIRE I can see Scizor and Nattorei being OHKOd (I haven't done the actual calcs, but I believe it should at least OHKO Scizor with rocks, (esp. if sun is up). Not to mention, with Chlorophyll and sun, Exeggutor doesn't have a weak SpA and it can still do its job while also fulfilling some niche roles.

I'm liking it, lets see what others think.

EDIT: Perhaps try some Defense evos and see what that does for taking a bullet punch or pursuit?

Responses in bold, what I am responding to is underlined.

Alright first off, Eggy does have EQ in the form of Nature Power. In wifi battles, Nature Power becomes Earthquake, so Earthquake isn't exclusive to Venausaur. Venasaur doesn't get better STAB attacks. Eggy gets Leaf Storm and all the other special grass moves. If you really want to argue about physical STAB, Eggy gets Wood Hammer. Plus, Eggy has higher attacking stats in bother catagories. You would choose Eggy over Venasaur for the power, the ability to lure in threats to sun teams, and not be walled by something (whether a choice between Heatran or Dragons; that's the choice saur makes)

Another thing to do is compare it with some other Chlorophyll users. Shiftry can KO Politoed and TTar, enemy weather starters, as well as hit practically every water type for a HUGE hit; plus run STAB dark to catch psychics and ghosts alike.

Alright Eggy does those things, Grass-type move is numero uno in importance in the set that's in the OP (how did you miss this?). STAB Psychic is arguably better than STAB dark with all the fighting types in the tier, not to mention even the bulkiest of Psychics (Reuniclus) get their faces shaven off by Leaf Storm. Eggy is more powerful than Eggy and more importantly; more resistant to priority and bulkier.

Exeggutor's psychic typing is a major weakness. Pursuit weak and not very defensively inclined (What does it give, a fighting resist? Its too frail to handle something like Terakion's Close combat).

Actually its a blessing. It gives Eggy a much more common thing to switch in on (fighting type attacks) which are overwhelmingly physical. It actually can tank a Terrakion CC due to its nice physical bulk.

Also, explosion from an Exeggutor seems underwhelming, especially with the nerf this gen, perhaps try Hidden Power fire to stop the steels that wall him, specifically SD Scizor.

It is on there. If HP Fire didn't KO even without rocks I would be sad. Alright, Eggy has 125 SpA even without Sun, I'm not so sure what you mean by the last underlined part.

I'm liking it, lets see what others think.

EDIT: Perhaps try some Defense evos and see what that does for taking a bullet punch or pursuit?

Already can take a BP.

Alright will do qc dudes. I think now would be a good time to take some other sets into thought. Anyone up for a trolly harvest exeggutor (as if mixed eggy wasn't trolly enough >_> )?

Knight of Cydonia

I COULD BE BANNED!
Harvest is gimmicky to the extreme, but I've never used it so maybe it can work. Here's my suggestion.

[SET]
name: Choice Specs
move 1: Leaf Storm
move 2: Psyshock
move 3: Hidden Power Fire
move 4: Nature Power / Sleep Powder
item: Choice Specs
trait: Chlorophyll
nature: Rash
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

Leaf Storm vs. 252/252+ Tyranitar [sandstorm] : 87.62 - 102.97% - Guaranteed OHKO with Stealth Rock
Psyshock vs. 252/252+ Blissey : 53.08 - 62.6% - Guaranteed 2HKO with Stealth Rock
Hidden Power Fire vs. 252/224+ Jirachi [sun]: 66.83 - 78.71%
Nature Power vs. 248/0 Heatran: 68.57 - 81.03%

Basically, the only OU Pokemon that aren't 2HKOed by the appropriate move with Sun and Stealth Rock up are Air Balloon Heatran, Chansey, Latias and Latios. Dragonite can survive two hits with Multiscale intact. Chansey needs a bit of luck if Stealth Rock is on the field.
Psyshock vs. Chansey (OU Wish): 39.34 - 46.44% - 30.47% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock.
Also Leaf Storm vs. 4/0 Latios: 55.62 - 65.56%
This thing is a monster. Obviously it is dependant on sun for speed and to power up HP Fire. Nature Power is specifically for Heatran, but if that isn't a problem for the rest of your team to take out, then Sleep Powder is useful for stopping Dragonite before it can boost on you, and will also neuter Heatran. It differentiates itself from Specs Latios because it can run a +SpA nature and still outspeed stuff with Chlorophyll, and can take out Tyranitar with a single shot. You can blast holes in your opponents special walls, and then clean up the mess with a second, faster Chlorophyll sweeper.

There's no need to invent sets if you have no actual play experience with it. I would simply list them in OO.

However, there are some sets that you may want to test out. Namely a fast SubSeeder and a SunnyBeamer. Substitute & Leech Seed will provide some unique ways to wear down the opponent in conjunction with its high special offense; Eggy can also serve as a back-up Sunny Day setter for a Drought team.

Not a fan of CSpecs on a Grass / Psychic mon, since its STAB moves are easily exploited by the opponent, and Eggy appreciates the ability to switch moves rather than the extra kick in power. It's probably OO material.

For the main set, AC mention Naive Nature for the ability to check DD Haxorus, DD / Scarf Mence, Scarf Darmanitan.

I also believe Psychic should be slashed on the fourth slot rather than with HP Fire, since HP Fire is a staple.
