NOC Fallout New Vegas NOC [Sign-Ups]

Hosted by More Cowbell and Gale Wing Srock, approved by Da Letter El

Welcome to the sign-up thread for Fallout New Vegas NOC, a fairly simple NOC game following a Mafia vs. Village set-up. The game is beginner-friendly, so don't hesitate if this is your first mafia game. It's made for 15 players.

The year is 2281, and the location is Nevada’s Mojave Desert. It’s been over 200 years since the Great War that annihilated most of the world as we knew it. Even though the fallout is still everywhere, the survivors of the nuclear war, who lived through the event in underground vaults, have since started rebuilding a nation above ground. Of course, this leads to the necessary conflict, as everyone fights over what remains of the pre-war glory of the old world.

The Wastelanders living in the wasteland largely keep to themselves, resulting in a mostly stable situation, except for the occasional Raiders or Fiends terrorizing the lands.

Holed up in New Vegas, the post-war reincarnation of Las Vegas, resides the enigmatic Mr. House and his army of Securitrons, who rules the Strip with the help of the Families that run the casinos; the trigger-happy Boomers have fortified themselves at Nellis Air Force Base to the North; the fabled Brotherhood of Steel are rumoured to be hiding in a Hidden Valley around Black Mountain; spread across the desert are small towns like Goodsprings, Novac and Jamestown trying to keep themselves afloat. The New California Republic, who rule most of the West Coast of what remains of the United States of America, have tried to unite these factions under one flag before, to little effect.

The stability is being threatened, however, with a major threat looming in the East: across the Colorado River lies the territory of Caesar’s Legion, a slaver society modeled after the Roman Empire, ruled by the totalitarian leader Caesar. They are rapidly advancing onto Hoover Dam and Lake Mead, the main sources of electricity and clean water in the area; should they fall to the Legion, the rest of the Mojave will surely follow. To prevent this from happening, the Wastelanders will have to work together.

Amidst the conflict stands the Courier, a mysterious outsider with an unknown history, whose motives are only known the Courier himself.

1. More Cowbell and Gale Wing Srock are the hosts of this game; we reserve the right to intervene in the game in whatever way we deem necessary. This can mean subbing people out for inactivity, godkilling rule breakers, etc. Decisions are not up for discussion.

2. Play to win. Play to have fun. Any suicide pacts/game ruining/etc will cause you to be godkilled or subbed out, and possibly blacklisted from future mafia games. This is your only warning.

Corollary: Mistakes and poor play are not the same as ruining the game. We know the difference between trying to ruin the game and making mistakes. We will be lenient, but don’t test us.

3. This is a NO OUTSIDE COMMUNICATION game. Unless specifically stated, you are forbidden to communicate outside of the game thread with other players. You are also forbidden to edit or delete your posts, and you may only post in the game thread during the day.

3a. You may ask the hosts questions at any time either by bolding the question in a thread post or by private messaging us. If we can respond to the question, we will. If we cannot respond, we will neither confirm nor deny anything.

4. The game begins on Night 0, which will be 48 hours long. During this time, actions are not valid unless stated otherwise, and all players must confirm they received their role PM with the hosts. You must also confirm your role PM if you do not have an ability of sorts; if you fail to do so, you will be subbed out as soon as possible. After this confirmation period, the game will start with Day 1, which will last at least 96 hours. The duration of days will be based on the level of activity and discussion in the game; deadlines will be announced at least 24 hours before deadline.

5. During the Day phase, you may discuss the game in public in the game thread. To vote to lynch a player, post "Lynch <USER>" in the thread in bold. To change your vote, post "Unvote <USER>" in the thread in bold. You’re allowed to be creative with lynch votes, as long as it is clear that you are voting for someone.

5a. You may also vote No Lynch during the day; a No Lynch majority will result in no lynch.

6. A day phase will end when a majority of the players in the game agree to lynch a player, or when deadline is reached. In both cases, one of the hosts will post in the thread calling Deadline or Majority.

7. In the event that no majority is reached during the day phase, the user with the highest number of votes will be lynched. Should two players be tied for the highest number of votes, there will be No Lynch.

8. During the Night phase, you may not talk in the thread. If you have a night action, you may send it in using the method detailed in your role PM.

9. If there is a conflict between a role PM and the rules, the role PM takes precedence. If you are still unsure about something, PM one of the hosts for clarification.

10. Once you die, you will be given access to a dead chat. After you die, you may not discuss the game with anyone who is still alive, period. Really, don’t do this.

11. To make sure you have read the rules, you must copy-paste this rule (#11) in your role PM.

It really doesn't feel like a year since the last NOC, but hey >_>
In 2 days, Great Idea NOC opened its sign-ups exactly a year ago... There should be more NOC games >:(

In, but I'll be out of town for about a week.
I've written you down as a participant for now, but depending on the amount of sign-ups and how long sign-ups will last, I may give up your position for someone who can play write away.

I would love to play, but this is my first time ever playing a game like this. Would be looking forward to getting as much help as people are willing to offer.

NOC (No Outside Communication) is generally easier to get into than the standard games, because everything plays in the game thread, and not behind the scenes in Personal Messages and on IRC, which is the case in most games. All roles are self-explanatory through the role PM you will get once the game starts, and everyone here will be more than willing to help you out. I've written you down as a player - if you want out then let me know, but I think this will be a pretty good game to get started with.

You've heard of Great Idea NOC Mafia.
We all have, the legends, the curses.
Foolishness about it lying in the middle of the Forum of the Dead, buried beneath a pile of old, forgotten games.
A bright, shining monument luring treasure hunters to their doom.
The world's most famous goats and mafia players were admitted to its Grand Opening.
An admittance was a sign of... exclusiveness.
The opening was supposed to symbolize a road to a brighter future, not just for the world...
... but for all who came to its doors.
A chance for anyone to begin again.
Except - the Great Idea NOC mafia sucked.
The RNG god butchered it, like a RNG god butchering a NOC game whose roles were RNG'ed. The Grand Opening - one big ending of NOC.

It's still out there, in the Wastes, preserved, just waiting for someone to crack it open.
But getting to it. That's not the hard part.
It's letting go.

In by the way.

That makes 15 participants - sign-ups will remain open for another 48 hours starting from this post, in which people who still want to participate can sign up as subs (you can always sign up as a substitute, by the way) in the event that someone drops out. After that, either Gale or I will announce when the game starts.
