[OVERVIEW]
Floatzel stands out as one of the fastest Pokemon in the NU metagame, outspeeding many threatening Pokemon, such as Archeops and Tauros, as well as Speed tying with Sneasel. Floatzel has decent offensive stats that allow it to be either a special or a physical attacker, giving it some versatility. Its typing also gives it a good matchup against many Stealth Rock users, letting Floatzel act as decent lead. Floatzel's ability, Water Veil, also allows it to switch into Will-O-Wisp and Scald without fear of being burned. Floatzel is also the only viable Pokemon in the tier with access to both Bulk Up and Baton Pass, giving it a unique niche that lets it support its teammates. However, Floatzel faces competition from Samurott, which has more wallbreaking prowess with its access to Swords Dance; however, unlike Samurott, Floatzel has fewer issues with Ferroseed because it has Focus Blast. Floatzel is also very frail, taking major damage from strong resisted attacks and being easily revenge killed by many Choice Scarf users.

Moves
========
Hydro Pump is a powerful Water-type STAB move that hits even neutral targets hard. Ice Beam has great coverage with Hydro Pump and hits Grass- and Flying-types such as Lilligant, Vileplume, and Scyther super effectively. Focus Blast rounds out Floatzel's coverage, allowing Floatzel to hit Ferroseed, which otherwise walls Floatzel. Taunt prevents Pokemon from recovering, boosting their stats, and setting up entry hazards. Hidden Power Electric hits bulky Water-types such as Mantine, Pelipper, and Prinplup super effectively. Baton Pass is another decent option that allows Floatzel to retain offensive momentum.
Set Details
========
Maximum Speed EVs with a Timid nature are used to outspeed as many Pokemon as possible, allowing Floatzel to outspeed Archeops and Tauros while Speed tying with Sneasel. Maximum Special Attack EVs allow Floatzel to hit as hard as possible. The choice between the two abilities is a personal preference: Water Veil is great for allowing Floatzel to switch into Scald without fear of being worn down by burns, while Swift Swim allows it to take on opposing Swift Swim Pokemon on rain teams such as Kabutops and Gorebyss. A Life Orb gives a significant power boost to Floatzel's attacks and allows it to switch moves freely.
Usage Tips
========
Floatzel is best brought in with a U-turn or Volt Switch user or after a Pokemon has fainted, as it takes a lot of damage from most neutral hits. This set is meant to be played as a revenge killer and a late-game cleaner, so try to preserve it. Make sure to use the appropriate coverage move against predicted switch-ins, as Floatzel will be worn down by Life Orb recoil from wasted hits. Use Taunt to shut down defensive Pokemon such as Prinplup and Mega Audino and give Floatzel a better matchup against defensive teams.
Team Options
========
Floatzel generally likes to be brought in safely, so it pairs well with a Volt Switch or U-turn user such as Rotom, Lanturn, Mesprit, or Scyther. Floatzel really appreciates entry hazard support to ease its late-game cleaning abilities. For example, Floatzel is able to OHKO Lilligant most of the time with Ice Beam after Spikes damage. Thus, Pokemon such as Garbodor and Cacturne make for great partners, especially because the former punishes Pokemon that use priority moves to take down Floatzel and the latter resists Grass- and Electric-type attacks. Mesprit and Uxie make for great partners, as they can support Floatzel with Stealth Rock and bring in Floatzel safely with U-turn; the former also has access to Healing Wish to heal Floatzel if it has been worn down a lot by Life Orb recoil or crippled by status. Electric-types such as Rotom pair well with Floatzel, as they can threaten Water-types that give Floatzel issues and also bring in Floatzel safely with Volt Switch. Wallbreakers, such as Choice Band Sawk and Choice Specs Pyroar, are great partners, as they break down bulky Pokemon that Floatzel tends to struggle with. Kangaskhan pairs well with Floatzel because they both handle each other's checks very well and break down offensive teams with their priority and Speed, respectively. Pyroar, Gurdurr, Flareon, and Pawniard are good teammates, as they appreciate Floatzel's ability to lure Mantine and Pelipper and KO them with Hidden Power Electric.

Moves
========
Bulk Up raises Floatzel's good Attack stat even further and raises its Defense stat, allowing it to take some physical attacks more comfortably. Baton Pass allows Floatzel to quickly pass its Bulk Up boosts to a teammate. Waterfall is a reliable STAB move that does decent damage after a boost and has a chance to make the foe flinch. Taunt prevents Pokemon from phazing Floatzel with Whirlwind or Roar. It also prevents opposing Pokemon from using Taunt, spreading status, setting up entry hazards, and setting up alongside Floatzel. Ice Punch is an alternative to hit Grass-types such as Cacturne, Lilligant, Torterra, and Vileplume.
Set Details
========
Maximum Speed EVs with a Timid nature are used to outspeed as many Pokemon as possible, notably allowing Floatzel to outspeed Archeops and Tauros while Speed tying with Sneasel. Maximum HP EVs increase its bulk and allow Floatzel to take more hits as it sets up Bulk Up. Leftovers gives it passive recovery as it uses Bulk Up and, if using Substitute, allows Floatzel to create more Substitutes. Water Veil prevents Floatzel from being burned, which allows it to set up on bulky Water-types without fear of Scald.
Usage Tips
========
Use Bulk Up on forced switches or against Pokemon that cannot do much damage back, such as Prinplup, Pelipper, and Mantine. Use Taunt to shut down passive Pokemon, such as Audino and Prinplup, and prevent opposing Pokemon from crippling Floatzel with status or phazing Floatzel. Use Baton Pass to pass Bulk Up boosts to a teammate and also to maintain offensive momentum, even when no boosts are passed. Try to keep Floatzel healthy throughout the match, as it does not have any form of reliable recovery. Also, scout for Haze on Mantine, as Mantine switches in easily and can nullify Floatzel's boosts.
Team Options
========
Teammates for this Floatzel set include physical attackers, such as Kangaskhan, Sneasel, Mawile, and Tauros, as they greatly appreciate the Attack and Defense boosts. Quagsire is a very problematic Pokemon for this set, as it ignores any stat boosts Floatzel has attained, so Grass-types such as Cacturne, Lilligant, and Torterra make for great partners. Fire-types, such as Magmortar and Pyroar, also make for great partners, as they easily take down problematic Grass-types for Floatzel if it is lacking Ice Punch.

Other Options
=============
Choice Specs with Switcheroo is an option, but Floatzel likes to freely switch moves because of its coverage. Similarly, Choice Band is another option to take advantage of its good Attack and Switcheroo. Switcheroo plus Flame Orb is another option to burn a Pokemon and cripple them further by taking their item. Surf can be used over Hydro Pump if the accuracy is a concern, but the loss in power is notable. Iron Tail nails Fairy-types such as Mega Audino and Granbull. Hidden Power Grass OHKOes Quagsire, but it gets hit hard enough by Hydro Pump. Crunch is an option on the Bulk Up set to hit Ghost- and Psychic-types such as Mismagius, Mesprit, Uxie, and Musharna. Substitute is another option on the Bulk Up set that prevents Floatzel from being hit by moves such as Thunder Wave and Toxic and ensures the Baton Pass recipient switches in safely. An offensive Swift Swim set has use on rain teams, but it faces too much competition from other Swift Swim users such as Ludicolo, Kabutops, and Gorebyss.
Checks and Counters
===================
**Water-types**: Bulky Water-types such as Lanturn, Prinplup, Mantine, Poliwrath, Quagsire, and Pelipper give Floatzel problems, as it cannot do much to them while all of them can cripple Floatzel with Toxic. Lanturn only fears Hidden Power Grass and hits Floatzel for super effective damage with Volt Switch. Poliwrath is able to phaze Floatzel regardless of Taunt thanks to Circle Throw and is immune to Waterfall. Quagsire ignores any boosts Floatzel attains on its Bulk Up set with Unaware.
**Grass-types**: Grass-types, such as Vileplume, Lilligant, and Cacturne, can give Floatzel problems. Vileplume is a problem for Floatzel's Bulk Up set, as it is not even 4HKOed without boosts while it threatens Floatzel with Giga Drain. Lilligant sets up Quiver Dance on Floatzel's Bulk Up set if it is lacking Ice Punch and OHKOes with Giga Drain. However, none of these Grass-types appreciates taking an Ice Beam or Ice Punch. All of them, except for Choice Scarf Lilligant, are also naturally outsped by Floatzel and can be hit with a coverage move if they switch in.
**Faster Pokemon**: Faster Pokemon, such as Zebstrika and Swellow, as well as Choice Scarf users, such as Rotom, Mesprit, and Lilligant, revenge kill Floatzel, though none of these Pokemon are able to safely switch in.
