[Overview]

One of the few Dragon-types in NU, Fraxure is an absolute monster, as very few Steel-types exist in the tier as well. With access to Dragon Dance, Fraxure can sweep many teams that are incapable of withstanding its powerful STAB Outrages. Fraxure is not without flaws, however, as it has a low initial Speed and a terrible movepool consisting of only Dragon-type moves. Despite these minor flaws, Fraxure can be a great sweeper that can destroy even prepared teams.

[SET COMMENTS]

Fraxure has a great boosting move in Dragon Dance. After a single boost, Fraxure reaches an outstanding 499 Attack and 384 Speed, which allows it to outspeed positive-natured base 125 Speed Pokemon, such as Swellow. Fraxure is great on both offensive teams and balanced teams alike, being able to supply overwhelming offensive pressure due to its high Attack Stat and great STAB.

Outrage and Dragon Claw are both used due to Fraxure's terrible movepool and the great neutral coverage that its Dragon STAB provides. Outrage murders everything, but locks Fraxure in, which makes Dragon Claw a great attack to pick off a weakened opponent. X-Scissor is usable over Dragon Claw as it has decent type coverage in NU, hitting Mesprit, Absol, and Jynx without having to lock itself in. Taunt prevents foes from inflicting status on Fraxure and deters defensive Pokemon such as Alomomola from stalling Fraxure with Wish and Toxic. Access to Swords Dance allows Fraxure to run a Double Dance set and gives Fraxure the opportunity to completely decimate stall teams.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

The EVs are standard for a sweeper, and also allows Fraxure to outspeed Swellow. If Swellow is not a concern, Fraxure can run a spread of 84 HP / 252 Atk / 168 Spe along with an Adamant nature to outspeed base 95 Speed Pokemon, particularly Jynx, as well as enjoy more bulk and power. Life Orb is the preferred item on Fraxure as the power boost secures vital 2HKOs on Pokemon such as Regirock, Alomomola, Bastiodon, and Relicanth. Alternatively, Eviolite allows Fraxure to be less prone to revenge killing, being 2HKOed by Braviary and Sawk as opposed to a OHKO with Life Orb.

If using Eviolite, entry hazard support from the likes of Golem and Garbodor allows Fraxure to obtain many of the aforementioned OHKOs and 2HKOs. Pokemon who can tank Ice-type attacks, such as Wartortle and Alomomola, make great partners for Fraxure; in return, Fraxure can easily tank the Grass- and Electric-type attacks aimed at them. Fire-, Fighting- or Ground- type Pokemon, such as Magmortar and Sawk, are great teammates for Fraxure as well, as their STAB attacks are super effective against the Steel-type Pokemon that resist Fraxure's STAB. With Magnet Pull and Earth Power enabling it to trap and KO Steel-types, Probopass is also useful. Due to Fraxure's average Speed, it is easily revenge killed by faster Pokemon, such as Absol. To combat this, bulky Pokemon such as Golem and Probopass are useful teammates. Dual screen support also helps Fraxure set up and gives it an easier time accumulating boosts. Serperior, Swoobat, and Audino can set them up.

[Other Options]

Fraxure has an incredibly small movepool that gives it almost no other competitive options. Toxic can be run to weaken Alomomola or Golem, both of whom wall it. Dig seems like a decent option when used in conjunction with Mold Breaker, but the charge turn gives the opponent plenty of time to switch to their Flying-type and avoid the attack. Night Slash and Return are Fraxure's only other attacking options, but Night Slash does not provide any notable coverage, while Return is always weaker than STAB Dragon Claw.

[Checks and Counters]

There are few checks and counters to Fraxure. Physically defensive Probopass, Bastidon, and Lairon are quite probably the best checks to Fraxure, as their Steel typing giving them a resistance to Fraxure's STAB. Due to Fraxure's sheer power, however, specially defensive Probopass and Bastiodon are both easily 2HKOed by Life Orb Outrage. Alomomola can stall Fraxure out with Wish + Protect + Toxic as long as Fraxure lacks either Taunt or Swords Dance. Support Relicanth is not 2HKOed by Outrage and can retaliate with a powerful Head Smash. Thanks to its incredible bulk, Tangela can easily stall Fraxure out with Leech Seed. Although very shaky checks, Weezing and Misdreavus can take an Outrage and hit Fraxure with a Will-O-Wisp, effectively crippling it for the rest of the match. Absol is another check thanks to its incredibly powerful STAB Sucker Punch, but must be wary of Eviolite variants, who can take a Sucker Punch. Lastly, Choice Scarf users such as Jynx, Sawk, and Braviary can revenge Fraxure, but note that the former two cannot OHKO Eviolite variants without prior damage.

[Dream World]

Fraxure gets Unnerve as its Dream World ability. This ability is highly situational as most Pokemon do not use Berries at all, making Mold Breaker a better option.
