Gallade (Parafusion)

Gallade

[SET]
Name: Parafusion
Move 1: Thunder Wave
Move 2: Confuse Ray
Move 3: Zen Headbutt
Move 4: Drain Punch
Item: Leftovers / Lum Berry
Nature: Impish
Ability: Steadfast
EVs: 252 HP / 208 Def / 48 SpD

[Why this set should be on site]

- Most people will be expecting a Bulk Up or Swords Dance variant of Gallade, and this set can allow you to throw off opponents easily
- Parafusionflinch is a really great set to run if you want to completely tick off your opponent
- This Gallade set is a great counter to sweepers and can easily wear them down quickly to prevent those scary sweeps

[Set Comments]

- Thunder Wave + Confuse Ray + Zen Headbutt allows you to stall out sweepers and prevent them from putting a dent in your team
- Drain Punch allows you to recover off damage as well as get some damage on the opponent's Pokémon
- 208 EVs in Defense to boost Gallade's subpar Defense stat
- Impish nature allows Gallade to boost its Defense stat even more
- 48 SpD EVs give Gallade a little bit of extra special bulk to take attacks from Pokémon such as Rotom-A better
- Speed investment is not needed as Gallade can easily outspeed any Pokémon in the tier if they are paralyzed and start the Confuse Ray + Zen Headbutt combo to wear it down
- Gallade pairs well with Rotom-A as Rotom does not mind the burn from defensive Ghost types and can eliminate them fairly quickly with its decent Sp. Atk stat and also deal with Pokémon such as Slowking and Sigilyph that give Gallade problems

[Checks and Counters]

- Bulky Ghost-types such as Cofagrigus, Dusknoir, and Spiritomb (especially Spiritomb as it is not affected by Zen Headbutt nor Drain Punch) will have no problem dealing with being paralyzed and can all burn Gallade with Will-o-Wisp
- Slowking can take attacks from Gallade all day and threaten with a Scald burn
- Golurk is not affected by Thunder Wave nor Drain Punch and can quickly wear down Gallade with Ghost STAB
- Sigilyph with Flame Orb activated can burn Gallade and set up Cosmic Powers on it

In all honesty, I don't think Gallade should be trying to attempt this sort of set. With the given EV spread, you have absolutely no Attack investment as well as no form of boosting move, meaning that your attacks will be incredibly weak. In addition, ParaFusion is in general a more luck-based "strategy" and isn't really considered seriously in competitive play with a few exceptions. Zen Headbutt, your flinching move, has a mere 20% chance to flinch, and a 10% chance to miss, something that is actually quite important. No Substitute or Taunt means that this set is also incredibly vulnerable to status. Although Gallade possesses exceptional special bulk, its low HP and Defense stats let it down tremendously. Furthermore, nearly every single Ghost-type can wall it and easily wear it down with Will-O-Wisp or their STAB Ghost-type attacks. I really don't see why anyone would use this set over one of Gallade's other, superior sets.

I'm not buying it. Parafusion is a shaky strategy at best, and frankly Gallade has better things to be doing with a defensive set, like WoW to fix its defense, Taunt to stop set-ups, or Wish for healing. What Omicron says also stands.

None of Gallade's normal counters care about parafusion. You're seriously using Impish Gallade with no Attack EVs? This is one of those sets where I think logs are required before QC peeps will accept it. This is outclassed by so many other things...even by Lanturn.

imo, the main issue with Gallade as a Parafusion user is that unlike stuff like Rotom-S, Lanturn, etc, those other users have ways to get around the Ground-types who can switch into Thunder Wave with ease. Rotom-S is immune to Ground-type attacks, so it can confuse them and spam Air Slash to wear them down, while Lanturn can just nail them with a powerful Scald to deter them from switching in. Gallade, on the other hand, just can't really prevent them from switching in once the opponent realizes that you're using a Parafusion set. This is especially true because the EV spread you're recommending doesn't use any Attack investment, which means that Gallade is going to do poor damage to stuff like Sandslash. This set also doesn't really do much against most of Gallade's main counters / checks; OTR Cofagrigus is still switching into this easily, and actually might like paralysis since it means that it'll be slower than everything under Trick Room, Slowking still walls Gallade, Spiritomb completely walls Gallade's STAB moves, etc. Like Texas said, Gallade simply has better things to do than try to attempt an unreliable Parafusion set.
