Here's a picture for the Draco Meteor DPPt tutor on Route 210. Unfortunately, I cannot get a picture of the tutor on Route 228 at the moment, because 17 elusive Pokemon are preventing me from accessing the other areas of the Battle Frontier island.

Edit: I'll have the second picture in a few hours when I get back.

Edit 2: Got the picture for the tutor on Route 228.

I believe his sprite placement is different in Platinum when compared to his sprite placement in Diamond/Pearl, but that's not a big deal.

Perhaps a nitpick but you said RSE (as in Ruby / Sapphire / Emerald) but those move tutors are only in Emerald and not in Ruby and Sapphire.

#6
I don't really have much to add, but you can save yourself a fair amount of time if you just copy/paste the locations of the FRLG and Emerald tutors from the thread for FR/LG and Emerald Location maps. Forgive me if that's what you were going to do already, but I thought I would point it out anyway.

Also, I know this is just a "list" of move tutors, but I think it would be really helpful to note what move tutors are noteworthy versus those that become redundant with another generation. For example, there is a Thunder Wave tutor in FR/LG/E/XD, but it became TM73 in DP. Conversely, the Softboiled tutor in FR/LG/E is the only way to teach Softboiled to Clefable. Given how competitive matches are going to occur in the latest generation, it seems safe to assume that most readers will be taking their Pokémon forward from the third/fourth generations (more the former, since the latter has Wifi and is still "current," since Black and White have not yet hit Japan, let alone North America and Europe). It is therefore very helpful for them if we spell out what move tutors are actually worth their time. This is something which would distinguish this list from those that already exist on sites such as Bulbapedia or Serebii. Obviously this can only be done with ADV to DP, since the fifth generation is not yet released. Though I think it could also be helpful to add a link to the fourth gen article wherever a third generation tutor is repeated there, since many third gen tutors are either one-use or require Battle Points (which not everyone will have, or feel like obtaining anymore). I understand that you/mingot want to keep the articles separate, but I also think a "bridge" of sorts is helpful here.

Additionally, there are some benefits to using certain move tutors over others; for example, the Emerald Body Slam tutor has unlimited uses (as long as you have enough BP), whereas the FR/LG tutor can only be used once. Unfortunately, this is not immediately apparent if the move tutors are listed in order of the game. I would actually propose that moves are displayed (within each generation) in their own alphabetical order, with the different game locations (if applicable) underneath. The reasoning for this is as follows:
  1. Many sites offer lists of move tutors per game, so there's nothing really unique about this one, short of the fact that it lists the Pokémon that learn the moves in the same place.
  2. Given that this is a competitive website, a user going to the move tutor page will probably want to know how to get a certain move, rather than wanting to know what moves are available in a certain game.
  3. If the location maps ever come to fruition, there will presumably be a simple way for users to find the move tutors in any given game. Therefore, organizing by game would create a sort of redundancy.
Of course, it's your article, so if you just want to make a list of move tutors, that's fine. I simply believe that the above suggestions (or some variations on them) will help differentiate such an article from what is already available on the Internet, as well as cater its content to the audience that Smogon attracts.

EDIT: Also, don't test for move tutor moves; this has either been done already by large teams, or pulled directly from the ROMs. I know that the lists for Platinum and HGSS are on Smogon (albeit the HG/SS link goes nicely with the format, and Platinum does not). Otherwise, I know sites like Bulbapedia list move tutor compatibility on each move's page. I suppose it comes down to how much you trust those other sites, but I would imagine their information is simply ripped from the ROMs.

In my opinion, yes, it works well. It allows the reader to look through the moves individually to find what they want, whereas the eventual location maps would be more showing each of the tutors and what they teach. Keep up the good work!

Alright. Changed the Gen 4 stuff to alphabetical, will do the same with the 3rd Gen, but I am gonna finish Gen 4 first.

Do you know how I should format Blast Burn, Hydro Cannon, and Frenzy Plant for the woman on Island 2? From what I recall, she can only teach one of those moves once to one of the fully evolved Kanto starters; however, I've been told that the Johto starters can learn those three moves in XD.

I thought that any evolution of a Kanto Starter could learn it and then the starter of Johto could learn in it XD. Not 100% sure though

Confirmed from a friend that Johto starters can learn the moves in XD; confirmed myself that they can only be taught once in FRLG. I had already taught it to my Charizard; transferred a Blastoise over from my sister's cartridge, and was unable to teach in Hydro Cannon.

The stuff I've been working on is here. I'll be updating it every so often with what I've done. I'll be doing it inside there to not clutter up this thread. I'll also let you know when I get progress in, so things can be added in. Before I use the pictures, I'll be travelling there in-game to see which pictures I should use.

Oh, and I almost forgot. Thanks for letting me help with this; it feels good to be contributing to Smogon.

If you're going to be checking them all by hand yourself, that's a huge task, good luck. You've got quite a few thousand tutor/pokemon compatibility checks per game. I'll compare however much you do against the other databases and flag up any differences for double checking, if you want.

I have been using the lists that Smogon already has. Looking back it is a bit unrealistic for me to go through every pokemon now. I could do it, but with Gen V coming up I am not sure if there is enough time. Plus I don't have all the games. I will consult with Wild Eep once he gets back from his vacation.

I'm going to need pictures for the Battle Frontier tutors in Emerald. I don't have Emerald, so unfortunately, I can't get those. Can anyone provide them?

Edit: Removing mentions of Cyndaquil, Chikorita, and Totodile gaining the super 150 BP special moves, since I've just found out that those moves are already there upon receiving them, not tutored.

Junk, the Emerald Location Maps thread offers only one screenshot, and it is of the lady on the left:

Both women are in the screenshot, but only the one on the left is saying something. I do not have an emulator, so I cannot get a screenshot of the right woman. However, it was Malfunction who made the screenshots in the original thread, maybe try sending a PM to him.

So should I just remove these from my article or are they going to be included in both?

Also, linking to the attack that can be tutored would make listing the Pokemon unnecessary since it shows on the move page who all is able to learn it.

Just posting to say that I think I've gotten the screenshots for all of the non-old lady tutors for Emerald and have added them to the OP (starting at Explosion), confirmation would be nice if there are any that I'm missing

OK I have the OP updated with all of the FRLG tutors screenshots, except for Swords Dance.

What I need: someone to get a screenshot of the Agate Village tutor in Pokemon XD. It should just be a single screenshot. If someone can get that for me I'll be forever grateful.

I took two, sue me. One indoors and one outdoors (since it's kind of hidden): Go up the first hill in Agate Village, turn left, then go all the way to the cave behind the house.

P.S. Make sure to refer to her by her proper name, Teacher Lady.

Thanks a ton NixHex

What I need now: I need a screenshot of the FRLG Swords Dance tutor on Seven Island. My emulator isn't letting me past the Elite Four, and I don't feel like making another run through the game to get it lol, so if someone could get me this, that'd be awesome.

EDIT: Big thanks to Kaphotics for getting the screenshot

now I just have to work on the rest of the article >.<
