[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Sludge Bomb is Gengar's most powerful STAB move and its main attacking move on this set. It has a decent chance to poison the foe, which essentially gives it a chance to break through Focus Sash. Shadow Ball can be used in the second slot to prevent Gengar from being walled by Steel-types. While a set with dual STAB moves can be used, Icy Wind is an option to provide speed control on some teams; sitting at an impressive base 110 Speed, it can outspeed and lower the Speed of other threats that may be initially faster than Gengar's ally. When using only one STAB move, you should consider what coverage your team needs most when debating which one to use. Shadow Ball should not be used when the rest of your team is vulnerable to Dark-types, for instance. Will-O-Wisp makes Gengar a rather reliable Mega Kangaskhan check by allowing it to avoid Sucker Punch and burning it in the same turn. For the fourth slot, Taunt is the best choice, as it allows Gengar to hinder teams that rely on Trick Room or Tailwind while also halting other shenanigans that may hinder the offensive potency of rest of your team, such as an opposing Thunder Wave or Will-O-Wisp. It also allows Gengar to slow down opposing setup sweepers such as Azumarill and Calm Mind Cresselia.

Set Details
========

Focus Sash helps compensate for Gengar's frailty and increases its overall staying power. Maximum Speed investment lets Gengar take advantage of its base 110 Speed, which makes it faster than a lot of speedy Doubles OU threats, such as Keldeo, Terrakion, and Mega Charizard Y. Gengar's Special Attack is maximized to hit as hard as possible.

Usage Tips
========

When against Mega Kangaskhan, you shouldn't try to attack it because of the threat of Parental Bond Sucker Punch. Therefore, Will-O-Wisp is the go-to play against Mega Kangaskhan. Gengar shouldn't be directly switched in very often in order to keep its Focus Sash intact, but it can still switch in on Choice-locked Landorus-T's Earthquake or Mega Kangaskhan very easily. Keep in mind that non-Mega Gengar's main purpose is to perform an offensive support role, so you should try to support the offensive powerhouses of your teams with Icy Wind and Will-O-Wisp rather than solely attacking with Gengar. Be wary of using Icy Wind when facing Bisharp, as it will gain a free Attack boost from Defiant and can safely switch in thanks to its resistance or immunity to both of Gengar's STAB moves.

Team Options
========

Both Mega Kangaskhan and Mega Charizard Y greatly appreciate Icy Wind support to outspeed most of the speedy threats that would otherwise threaten them to a large degree, such as offensive Thundurus, Keldeo, Terrakion, and Latios. Hydreigon not only takes advantage of Gengar's use of speed control but is also able to switch into Psychic-, Ghost-, and Dark-type attacks for Gengar. As Gengar is typically crippled by Thunder Wave and Taunt, Quick Guard users such as Keldeo and Terrakion can prevent Prankster Taunt and Thunder Wave from the likes of Thundurus and Klefki from hitting Gengar. Fighting-types such as these two can also threaten Tyranitar, which breaks Gengar's Focus Sash with Sand Stream. Gengar works well with Fighting-types such as Keldeo or Conkeldurr due to its ability to beat Fairy-, Ghost-, and Psychic-types. Hydreigon, Latios, and other Dragon-types also appreciate Gengar's ability to cripple opposing physical attackers with Will-O-Wisp. Latios in particular benefits from Gengar being able to turn Mega Kangaskhan into dead weight.

Banned deucer.
Set should be:
-sludge bomb
-shadow ball
-wisp
-taunt/icy wind

Protect in paragraphs only

imo

ive used sash gengar a lot and it really doesnt need dual stab. shadow ball or sludge bomb is perfectly fine and having more utility moves is really nice. shadow ball is probably the better of the two (its not like you really need to hit kanga) but sludge bomb is cool too if you need fairy coverage. having both taunt and icy wind make it a hell of a lot more annoying to deal with and i dont think its worth dropping one for another attacking move.

I think that Destiny Bond is a decent choice for Gengar as well. You outspeed a lot of the meta and, if running sash, can use a utility move the turn you get brought to it (WoW, Taunt, etc.) or deal damage to anything you need to and then trade 1 for 1 the turn after very commonly. I think Gengar's strength lies not only in being a huge nuisance for Kang but also for typically being able to cripple one mon and trade evenly against another.

[SET]
The set should be more of a mix of the above 2 imo, as dual stabs or 1 + icy wind (over the stab you don't particularly need) both work. Mention in the set comments that you can forego one of the stab moves for coverage / utility, though foregoing one leaves you unable to touch relevant mons (for example, ditching sludge bomb means you're defenceless against hydreigon which sludge bomb has a high chance of 2HKO'ing).

[USAGE TIPS]
Literally can only switch in on Fighting, Normal, and Ground. Anything else and this thing is taking a big chunk.

[TEAM OPTIONS]
- Fighting-types love it because it can beat Ghosts, Fairies, and Psychics. Also because of Icy Wind, you can help them avoid speed ties in mirror situations
- Dragons like Hydreigon and Latios like it too for similar reasons, and also because Gengar can will o wisp annoying physical attackers. Latios loves it in particular because of how well it deals with Kangaskhan.

Set Details
  • Talking about Protect in the set details feels weird. It feels like it belongs more in OO, is it possible to add it there on smogdex? If it is, it should be included there, as well as Destiny Bond cause it has a niche imo
  • The Icy Wind bullet should go after Shadow Ball, since its an alternative to both of the previous attacks. Its confusing when you bring it up again at the very end (nitpicky but makes more sense)
  • The sentence about Taunt should be its own separate bullet.
Usage Tips
  • Gengar works well as a lead to burn Fake-Outers, taunt Trick Room setters or any other type of set-up, etc.
Team Options
  • Mention that it's a nice switch-in for Ground weaks like Heatran and Diancie
  • Lando-T and other Ground-types work well with Gengar cause they can EQ next to it, and can switch-in on predicted t-waves

lol oops sorry xzern dunno how this has sat so long and with obvious messups on the set/comments :[

"Shadow Ball should not be used when the rest of your team is vulnerable to Dark-types, for instance."
Um and how does Icy Wind (the move its slashed with) help any better? The way you've phrased this implies Icy Wind + pick one STAB should be the default. But it's more like you use Icy Wind if you need extra speed control, otherwise go dual stab. Shadow Ball must be the default because of hitting Aegislash, Latios, Metagross.

Speaking of which, make Icy Wind second slash on both moveslots.

Taunt is now the 4th moveslot, not protect, so fix that too.

A quick nitpick, but SpAtk is spelled SpA (I know tis' GP's job.) On the other hand, I agree with slashing Icy Wind. Shadow Ball provides way more coverage. Icy Wind + Sludge Bomb makes Aegi untouchable to you. Sludge Bomb + Shadow Ball is the way to go unless you require Speed Control, just as Bughouse mentioned. I would mention DBond as it can be useful once Sash is down, but I believe it's not necessarily required to be slashed.

There isnt much to do here.

Only one thing I caught was that you should just talk about Icy Wind when you initially mention it, to maintain the flow.

Basically move the last 2 sentences of the Moves section to right after the sentence: "A set with dual STABs can be used, or you can replace one of the STABs with Icy Wind."

After you do that, then send it over to GP.

It has a decent chance to poison the opponent, which means that it can essentially gives it a chance to go through Focus Sashes in some cases. Shadow Ball can be used in your the second slot to avoid having Gengar be rendered less effective against Steel-types. Focus Sash is the preferred item because Gengar is rather frail and the item also it helps compensate for Gengar's frailty and increases its overall staying power. Maximum Speed lets Gengar take advantage of its base 110 Speed tier, which outspeeds a lot of relevant speedy Doubles OU threats, such as Keldeo, Terrakion, and Mega Charizard Y, etc. You might as well max out your Gengar's Special Attack is maximized (RC) too, (comma) Since as Gengar is running a Focus Sash on this set (RC) and there's no real reason to want any bulk to tank any specific hits.

Usage Tips

When against Mega Kangaskhan, you shouldn't try to attack it because of Parental Bond Sucker Punch. Therefore, (AC) Will-O-Wisp is the go-to play against Mega Kangaskhan. Both Mega Kangaskhan and Mega Charizard Y (remove hyphen) sit in a speed tier in which they would greatly appreciate the speed drops to the opponents that Gengar provides. With Icy Wind support, they can to outspeed most of the speedy threats that would otherwise threaten them to a large degree, such as offensive Thundurus, Keldeo, Terrakion, or and Latios. Hydreigon not only takes advantage of Gengar's use of speed control (RC) but also is also able to switch into Psychic-, Ghost-, (AC) and Dark-type attacks for Gengar.
