"The Blaziken dashed forward, its heart burning and beating alongside its trainer's" That was part of a novel I wrote. I absolutely love writing about the close bonds between the Trainers who come here and the Pokémon they train. Could I use you and your Pokémon as a subject?

3v3 Gym Singles (Challenger PMs 3 Pokemon, Gym Leader PMs 6 Pokemon)

Arena: Forlorn Graveyard
Switch = OK
Items = ON
Abilities = One
Substitute Orders: 2
No Mega Evolutions
Sending order is randomly decided.
Arena: The Forlorn Graveyard
Restrictions: None

People have stopped burying people in this abandoned graveyard for centuries, but there is still an eerie aura all over the place. The grass looks more grey than green (despite this not affecting Grass-type moves at all), and most Pokemon and people avoid the place instinctively. Some trainers however still visit this place to strengthen the link with their Pokemon, especially Ghost-type ones. A still lake formed in a fissure in the ground, however the dark water makes it impossible to see what lies in its depths

The odd aura of this graveyard has several effects in battle:
  • Focus Blast has 100% accuracy, and the base power of Aura Sphere and Hidden Power is raised by (2). It is very easy to focus oneself's soul in this place.
  • Will-O-Wisp has 100% accuracy. There are always wisps floating around to provide decent enough fodder for this wicked spell.
  • Pain Split has its base energy cost reduced by (2), and all draining attacks are empowered as if the Pokemon were holding Big Root, but without incurring the extra energy cost (this effect doesn't stack with Big Root itself). Life energies are easier to drain and consume in this place.
  • All Pokemon's max HP are reduced to 90. The aura of sorrow which permeates this place withers the strength and the resolve of all the Pokemon battling in its surroundings - even Ghost-types.
  • There are some leftover scrap parts, scattered around the arena. Rotom can tap into them, raising its Special Attack and Special Defense by 1 rank as long as it stays in its original form (without any appliance).

Well hello...well you are tired of this, aren't you?

Let's up cut to the chase here. The Ghost Gym Leader now faces the Normal Gym Leader for a battle of immunities! Or something like that.

The Gym Leader comes from a tough break, but is slowly getting his/her act together. I guess ghost are all about revival or something haha. Anyway...Generation VI was very good to this Gym, with Steels being nerfed and fairies not affecting ghosts much. The only typings that have advantages offensively or defensively vs ghost are Dark (mauled by revenankh and fighting moves in general, thanks to the low bap of dark moves), Ghost itself (go go mirror matches) and normal. Considering that the current battles of this gym are the first one after XY, now is the opportunity for the leader to get a good streak going on. For a change.

Pay special attention to Myrkul the Revenankh here. Fighting Type completely destroys 2/3 of the challenger's team, and the other 1/3 can be dealt well enough by the rest of the team. Also, Revenankh always performs pretty well when summoned.

The challenger here is facing very different streaks. In one hand, him + Dogfish44 become the number 1 Raid Pair now that the Engineer + deadfox seem to be taking some kind of break (which you shouldn't >:(). He was chosen for the Warstory, is defending his gym well enough and has a new batch of good normal types (read: diggersby) to play with. On that aspect Maxim is aces. But in the other hand, as far as Gym challenges go...well...his record isn't all that lovely. He challenged Poison, Flying, Electric and lost in all three in...let's say not close battles. It is very odd how someone can be so good on some things and not-so-much on others.

Well...it has been quite a while ever since his last challenge, and most of Maxim's accomplishments are recent, so here is hoping that his good phase affects gym challenges!

Pay special attention to Korangir the Aerodactyl. Yes I did notice that Colossoil is on the roster and no I am not blind. Let me have my wild (and inacurate) guesses, k? Anyway, Aerodactyl has the advantage of not being weak to most stabs and having the power and speed to outspeed most and win damage races, while taunting the mischeavous pokemon that usually roam in this Gym. The mons that can beat Korangir and easy dealt with by Colossoil, so it is just a matter of proper momentum control and the challenger should get this.

Or not haha

now let's take a look at the teams!

From DAT: Dig (Suspend): The user may pay 6 En to delay the attack component of Dig for an action. If a Pokémon is underground at the end of the round, it may not be switched out.

So it won't switch. Please reorder. You have 24h (as it is written on the DAT, I won't give you the whole 2 days) or I will use Struggle.

Round 1!

And so this begins! The challenger sends out Colossoil, which got a severely fat reduction upon send out. The Leader counters with the obvious Revenankh.

And faster than you can say "screeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeewed", Maxim noticed that this was a lousy matchup and, after a somewhat strong Earthquake, Rosch uses U-turn to get out of this match and protect to not...uh...faint? or something close to it.

obvious aerodactyl is coming. But ordering first I am not sure if it can turn this around.

Round 2!

Oh that is evil.

Anyway.

Sensing danger (oh you sherlock), the challenger removes Rosch the Colossoil and sends out Korangir the Aerodactyl with a Power Herb.

WHOA deja vu.

Using his speed to his advantage, Korangir begins this round with a Taunt that stops Revenankh from using non-damaging attacks. But that doesn't stop it from being mischievous, as we attacks with Knock Off to remove the Power Herb from the equation.

Without the Herb, Korangir's Sky Attacks take longer to be unleashed and the Leader seizes that opportunity by having Myrkul vanish in the shadows in order to escape Korangir's assaults while appearing in the perfect position for a counterattack. This happened twice.

It seems that the leader's Revenankh just don't want to get hurt! The challenger's success rely heavily on him dispatching Revenankh swiftly....which isn't really happening here.

Round 3!

The leader switches Myrkul the Revenankh for Grumbar the Golurk. Grumbar plays like Myrkul somewhat, with the different that it has no guard and no fighting type.

So he is not a bad option against the Colossoil that come in the counterswitch.

Rosch starts attacking with Sucker Punch knowing that Grumbar will attack. Unfortunately, Grumbar's attack was Drain Punch, which recovered almost half the damage done. Oh well.

And then, Rosch dove on the dark waters. I wouldn't do that if I were it, but oh well. Grumbar then just touched the soil and yelled "GOLURK!" (translation: No Guard!), the earth begin to rumble and the grass near the lake entered some kind of shaking frenzy. Next thing we know, many bubbles start to emerge on the lake and a few seconds later Rosch came out unconscious and covered with roots. Well, now we know who the spirits are rooting (oh I crack me up haha!) for...

Scary...
DATA:

ACTION 1!

ACTION 2!

Colossoil dove under creepy water!

Golurk used Grass Knot! (-9en)
No Guard is a thing!
Crit: 1 (yes)
Damage: (16+3+2-1.5)*1.5= 29.25hp

Colossoil fainted!

Frosty: remember the effect of my arena, please^^:

Pain Split has its base energy cost reduced by (2), and all draining attacks are empowered as if the Pokemon were holding Big Root, but without incurring the extra energy cost (this effect doesn't stack with Big Root itself). Life energies are easier to drain and consume in this place.

oopsie daisy i made a boo boo

Fixed. The funny part is that I read that when reffing and thought "nah, no one used Pain Split so we are good". I guess I should learn to learn word by word hahaha.

"...The heck? How have I barely scratched Zarator's Pokemon and yet he's taken down one of mine already? Geez Colossoil stinks..."

"On the bright side, now I get to introduce a Pokemon that I've had a while, but never used. Niki, it's time for you to finally take the stage!"

Round 4!

Well...uh...oh boy. This was a very unpredictable set of events.

It was the first time Lopunny was brought here. The first time Assault Vest was brought here. And the first time Klutz was picked in a one-ability Gym Match.

Maybe my mind-reading abilities are rusty, but I can't seem to understand that strategy.

Oh well, here is hoping that it works better later, because let me tell you: it didn't work well now :/.
