Girafarig[GP 2/2]

[Overview]
 • It can utilize one set that allows it to have an excuse to be on certain teams, which is a baton passer.Psychic/Normal typing gives it a handy ghost immunity.
 • Immense movepool with tons of attacking moves and support moves.
 • Great ability in Sap Sipper, which gives it another good immunity to grass types
 • Average offensive stats and frail defenses.
 • Outclassed offensively by many psychic types if you are wanting a special attacking set.

[SET]
name: Baton Passer
move 1: Baton Pass
move 2: Calm Mind
move 3: Psychic
move 4: Hyper Voice / Thunderbolt
item: Leftovers
ability: Sap Sipper
nature: Timid
evs: 4 HP / 252 SPA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

 • This set utilizes Girafarig's only moves and ability that makes it different from other psychic types.
 • Calm Mind can be used to boost Girafarig's special attack and defense to give it a shot at sweeping, or to pass off the boosts to a teammate.
 • Baton Pass is obviously used here to pass the boosts off to teammates.
 • It is also used to avoid pursuits from pokemon like skuntank.
 • Psychic is a good STAB move to use against really anything neutral or weak to it like Gurdurr, Sawk, Vileplume, etc.
 • Hyper Voice can be used as a secondary STAB move with Psychic to hit dark types.
 • Thunderbolt can be used over hyper voice to deal more damage to pokemon such as Metang, Lunatone, and Solrock. It also 2 hit ko's physically defensive mandibuzz and has a chance to 2 hit ko the special variant after stealth rocks
[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]
 • You could also do max hp and speed with a timid nature to be a more bulky calm mind passer.
 • There arent really any better moves to use with this set besides maybe Grass Knot to hit seismitoad better or HP Fighting to hit steel types like lairon and bastiodon better.
 • Golem is a nice partner for girafirig as it can take common switch-ins to girafarig such as skuntank and doesnt mind having a sap sipper boost or substitute. It also can lure in grass types for girafarig tos switch into to get the sap sipper boost.
 • Girafarig could also have a sub calm mind set with baton pass and hyper voice if you want to, if you do that use max hp and speed since girafarig is now focusing more on passing calm minds and substitutes. keep in mind that ghost types beat you now if you use this moveset.
 • Girafirig also likes pokemon that can sweep easily with a Calm Mind boost like Charizard.
 • Girafarig likes having wish support from pokemon such as alomomola and audino to help it live loloou could also use substitute instead of Calm Mind but Girafarig is usually outclassed by sawsbuck when it uses subpass.
[Other Options]

 • Girafarig can run a dual screens set but is generally outclassed by gardevoir, so use it if you absolutely need a grass immunity.
 • It can run a physical set but usually gets outclassed by miltank, so only a physical set with baton pass wouldnt be too outclassed.
 • Chioced Girafarig is viable enough since it has access to Trick to cripple walls that try to switch in, but once again be aware that gardevoir usually outclasses girafarig in this role.
 • Girafarig has the support moves to be a kind of good support pokemon but its to frail defensively to pull this off consistently.
 • Besides for these, girafarig could run different baton pass variants, but pretty much all of the other baton pass options are generally outclassed by sawsbuck who has a ghost immunity and grass immunity as well.
 • You could use shadow ball to hit psychic types but other coverage moves are generally better.
 • You could try to use Magic Coat somewhere on the set to bounce back status, whirlwind, roar, and taunt, but there isnt much of a place on the set to have it.
[Checks and Counters]

 • Steel types almost always wall girafarig, but be wary of girafarig baton passing out without getting hurt. Good examples of these counters are metang, bastiodon, and klang.
 • Make sure you have entry hazard up on their side of the field so it gets hard for girafarig to switch in and out all the time since it has a lack of reliable recovery.
 • If you dont have a grass type or misdreavus on your team, you usually dont need to worry about girafarig too much since it cant take a strong nuetral hit. faster pokemon are good checks since they can usually one hit ko girafirig with a strong attack.
 • Taunt users such as skuntank and mandibuzz can work too since they can stop girafarig from using Calm Mind, Substitute, or Baton Pass.
 • Phazing moves can also be quite the hassle for girafarig since it wipes away its CM boosts or Substitute, and this coupled with entry hazards is even a bigger counter to girafarig.

[Overview]

Girafarig is a bit of a one-trick pony—while its two heads and extremely generous movepool might suggest otherwise, it cannot perform most roles without being outclassed. However, a unique Psychic / Normal typing, two immunities in Ghost and Grass (the latter being courtesy of its ability, Sap Sipper), and access to Calm Mind let it act as a decent Baton Passer. Even so, Girafarig's mediocre offensive stats and poor defenses means that you are often better off using one of the many other offensive Psychic-types in NU, such as Musharna and Gardevoir.

[SET]
name: Baton Pass
move 1: Baton Pass
move 2: Calm Mind
move 3: Psychic
move 4: Hyper Voice / Thunderbolt
item: Leftovers
ability: Sap Sipper
nature: Timid
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

This set lets Girafarig differentiate itself from other Psychic-types with its immunities and secondary Normal-type STAB. Baton Pass is the main move on the set and lets Girafarig pass its Calm Mind boosts; it can also be used for dry passing, which lets Girafarig ease prediction as well as escape Pursuit. The Special Defense boosts granted by Calm Mind allow Girafarig to set up on weak special attackers and pass these boosts to teammates. Calm Mind also means that Girafarig can take on the role of a sweeper in a last-Pokemon situation or if said teammate cannot switch in safely. Psychic is an obligatory STAB move and hits common Pokemon such as Sawk, Gurdurr, and Roselia hard. Hyper Voice is the move of choice in the fourth slot as it provides good coverage alongside Psychic, hitting the Dark- and Psychic-types that easily shrug off a Psychic. It should be noted, however, that the combination of the previously mentioned STAB moves is resisted by Steel-types, so Thunderbolt is a viable option to hit them hard. Mandibuzz is also a very important target that Thunderbolt hits, as specially defensive variants are 2HKOed after Stealth Rock while physically defensive variants are 2HKOed with no prior damage.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

A spread of 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 Spe is viable as it lets Girafarig take on a more primary Baton Passing role. A Substitute + Calm Mind set is usable with Baton Pass, Hyper Voice, and maximum HP investment; keep in mind, however, that Ghost-types will beat this set. Grass Knot is an interesting option to hit Seismitoad and Golem, as is Hidden Power Ground to hit Probopass, Bastiodon, and Skuntank, but both are relatively weak against other threats. Golem partners well with Girafarig, as it can deal with Skuntank and Steel-types that are troublesome for Girafarig to handle. In addition, it can lure in Grass-type attacks from various threats, which lets Girafarig set up on said threats. Pokemon that can take advantage of Calm Mind boosts are great partners; Charizard is an excellent example. Wish support from the likes of Alomomola and Lickilicky is valuable to Girafarig so that it can set up on threats even after it has taken damage after Baton Passing once. Substitute can be used over Calm Mind but Sawsbuck is usually better when it comes to SubPass.

[Other Options]

A dual screens set might seem like a good option, but Gardevoir is infinitely better for this role for various reasons. However, if a Grass immunity is needed, Girafarig is a decent user of them. Physical sets are usable but Miltank is generally better as a physical Normal-type attacker. Girafarig has a secondary STAB move in Zen Headbutt as well as access to moves such as Earthquake and Crunch that differentiates it in this role from Miltank, however. Choiced Girafarig sets might seem like good options, but again, Gardevoir is better for this role. Girafarig can run a support role due to its access to moves such as Magic Coat, Whirlwind, Taunt, and Thunder Wave, but it is way too frail to run such a set. Girafarig could try running other variants of Baton Pass sets with moves such as Work Up and Charge Beam. On a similar note, a more defensive Baton Pass set with Substitute / Amnesia / Baton Pass / Foul Play takes lets Girafarig Baton Pass more reliably, but defensive boosts don't accomplish much by themselves. Shadow Ball hits Psychic-types but Girafarig is hard-pressed for moveslots.

[Checks and Counters]

Even though Girafarig is seemingly easy to counter, Baton Pass means that it won't be staying in on said counter most of the time and will swap out to an appropriate switch-in for it. Steel-types such as Bastiodon, Probopass, and Metang are excellent counters to Girafarig; Bastiodon is particularly effective due to Roar. Pursuit trappers such as pivot Liepard are immune to its Psychic STAB and can trap it; this fact is further augmented by Liepard's access to Encore, which lets it lock Girafarig into Calm Mind. Skuntank is a seemingly excellent counter, but it is outsped by Girafarig, which can simply Baton Pass and escape Skuntank's Pursuit. Perish Song Misdreavus can stop Girafarig's sweep in its tracks even if it chooses to Baton Pass to a teammate. Taunt users such as Serperior and Mandibuzz are great counters to Girafarig, although the latter is 2HKOed by Thunderbolt. Users of phazing moves can deal with Girafarig by wiping away its Calm Mind boosts. Physical attackers that outspeed Girafarig, such as Sawsbuck, can KO it before it can Baton Pass out to a teammate or utilize the Calm Mind boosts itself.

Here's an old Girafarig analysis that was never completed, the meta hasn't really changed much since then so the set should still be fine. CM + Pass + Ghost immunity + Sap Sipper is its only real niche, plus it can also pass Attack boosts ocassionally which is cool I guess.

I actually think the whole skeleton is worth keeping as it went to qc 2/3 and the whole thing looks close to perfect. TBH Kingler12345 you should credit Ashley11 at the top and c/p the whole thing.

It's my opinion though, so if everyone else wants kingler to start from zero, feel free to post about it!

Kingler12345 can you credit Ashley11's work at the top .-.

And the Checks and Counter section is really small and doesn't contain everything that is mentionned in the skeleton.

EDIT: sorry i didn't see x-x

[Overview]
You mean mediocre offenses and poor defenses right? Because base 90 isn't poor, especially after a CM boost. For the last sentence, if you mean to compare it to other offensive Psychic-types, actually mention it in the sentence. If that was what you meant, then change Mr. Mime for Gardevoir.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]
I would mention the Sub + CM option first before GK/HP Ground, as Sub + CM Passing is a more useful option. HP Ground because you are specifically mentioning Steel-types as what it targets, which Ground hits better overall (it actually hits Metang, and hitting Skuntank is useful too). Oh, remember the paragraph tag in the beginning as well.

[Other Options]
A Physical set should get a bigger mention, it can sort of differentiate itself from Miltank due to its secondary STAB and it has a few decent physical moves to go with it (EQ and Crunch). Charge Beam, Agility, Amnesia, and Work Up can get a mention as alternative moves to pass. It even gets Foul Play, so a Sub + Amnesia passing set is semi-viable as well with that as an offensive move.

[Checks and Counters]
Mention that Baton Pass allows Girafarig to escape most of its normal checks and counters. Instead of mentioning Skuntank twice, mention Serperior as a Taunt user as it outspeeds and can set up CMs to buffer Psychic and Hyper Voice better. Also, Skuntank is slower than Girafarig, so Pursuit won't trap it if it doesn't Taunt when Girafarig switches in on Skuntank (which won't ever happen). Finally, faster physical attackers can easily take out Girafarig before it can pass/attack due to its poor bulk.

Make these changes and I'll give you the check Kingler12345

Wow Kingler12345 I feel like you ignored a good chunk of my check :'(
[Overview]
You still haven't answered/changed the point I made about your last sentence. If you are specifically mentioning CM Passers, say so. If you are speaking about offensive Psychic-types (like the skeleton did) then Gardevoir should be over Mr. Mime and you should clarify.

[SET COMMENTS]
Honestly, you don't need to append that part in parentheses for Thunderbolt, if it beats spdef mandibuzz after rocks, it'll beat physically defensive. Remove it. I also insist on HP Ground over Fighting being mentioned here. If you disagree, tell me the reason.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]
Add in the fact that Wish Passers will allow Girafarig a possible second chance to set up and Pass.

[Other Options]
It's not the coverage moves that differentiate a physical set from Miltank, its the secondary STAB in Zen Headbutt. You also ignored the additions of the other boosting moves, and Foul Play.

[Checks and Counters]
I wouldn't mention entry hazards, Girafarig won't be switching around THAT much. It'll either try to get the boosts and pass (which will probably only happen once per battle), or else pivot out early game (it rarely gets enough of a safe switch in for it to continuously switch in and out). You still insinuate that Skuntank is able to trap Girafarig, so please update that. You also didn't mention that physical attackers that are faster are able to check girafarig by preventing it from safely BP away or even making use of its boosts itself. Perish Song Misdreavus is also a good check, as it can threaten to use Taunt or Perish Song.

Implement everything I've already said before for Other Options (Sawsbuck doesn't single-handedly outclass it, since it lacks stuff like Amnesia and Charge Beam), and add that Girafarig can utilize a more defensive BP set with Amnesia and Sub with Foul Play as its offensive move, but that defensive boosts generally do not accomplish much of anything on their own.

implement Kingler12345 and

before I approve this, I want to highlight a few issues.

First of all, go back and read your Set Comments paragraph. Count the number of times you use the word "lets" or "letting". I didn't make any changes there because it would end up being me rewriting almost the entire paragraph, which I feel would at first glance, look unfair.

Regardless, continuing on, some of your other sentences are very poorly constructed (note the Golem vs Skuntank line in Additional Comments). Your grammar is improving greatly, which is good, but your prose and style of writing are still very lacklustre. Quite simply, it's boring to read and feels messy. I very much get the feeling that you just got some bullet points, added words, and put them together. There's very little flow in your sentences and clause construction.

I don't mean to offend, but I'm tentatively putting this as GP Approved 1.5 / 2.
I would very much like for you to go through it again and work on your prose. Don't think of this as me punishing you or anything, but I feel like you could do a lot better with your writing. If you want, I can help with some of the sentence structures, but either way, in its current state, I wouldn't really feel comfortable seeing this being put on site due to the way it reads.

Zystral
I made your changes, looked over, did the SC and AC nitpicks, and reworded most stuff in general.
If there is more to be worked on please let me know ^_^

Pursuit trappers such as pivot Liepard are immune to its Psychic STAB and can trap it; this fact is further augmented by itLiepard's access to Encore, which lets it lock Girafarig into Calm Mind. Taunt users such as Serperior and Mandibuzz are great counters to Girafarig,(AC) although the latter is 2HKOed by Thunderbolt. Users of phazing moves can deal with Girafarig by wiping away its Calm Mind boosts. Physical attackers that outspeed Girafarig, such as Sawsbuck, can KO it before it can Baton Pass out to a teammate or utilize the Calm Mind boosts itself.
