[OVERVIEW]
  • Handy resists such as Electric, Water, and Ground backed by solid defensive stats
  • Great Trick Room setter thanks to a natural immunity to both Fake Out and Spore
  • Frisk can scout the items of your opponent's sets
  • Used best on semi-Trick Room as a defensive backbone and a speed control option
  • Limited offensive presence
  • Weak to Dark and Ghost, common ways to check many Trick Room setters

[SET]

Moves
========
  • Trick Room enables your slower allies to have the speed advantage over the opposing mons
  • Phantom Force is a STAB move with decent power behind it that allows Gourgeist to gain extra Leech Seed recovery while also hitting through Protect
  • Will-O-Wisp cripples physical attackers and allows Gourgeist to beat Mega Kanga
  • Leech Seed provides passive recovery and a way for Gourgeist to chip damage opposing mons
  • Protect scouts for attacks and stalls out field conditions
Set Details
========
  • Leftovers gives Gourgeist passive recovery in combination with Leech Seed
  • HP & Defense allow it to survive Life Orb Talonflame Brave Bird, rest into spdef
  • The defense can be increased to 160 EVs to live a Bisharp Knock Off
  • Min speed IVs + relaxed for trick room
  • Frisk scouts your opponent's items
Usage Tips
========
  • Phantom Force under Trick Room is similar to using Protect to scout for moves and to gain extra passive recovery
  • Will-O-Wisp and Leech Seed provide a lot of passive damage
  • Makes for a great mid-to-late game TR setter because of its great natural bulk
  • In the end game, it can also act as a win condition by stalling out the opposing mons once certain threats have been removed
  • If Gourgeist needs to be brought in early game, Frisk can be helpful to determine the sets and gain information on your opponent's mons
Team Options
========
  • Landorus-T bolsters Gourgeist's already great physical bulk with Intimidate and takes out Fire and Flying types that threaten it with Rock Slide
  • Mega Camerupt appreciates Gourgeist's ability to take on Water Types and Trick Room support while providing a switchin to Fire type moves
  • Keldeo and Azumarill takes out the Dark and Fire types that threaten Gourg

Other Options
=============
  • Explosion can be used with an offensive EV spread and Normal Gem to take advantage of your Trick Room turns with your other hard-hitting mons while doing a sizable amount of damage to the opponents
  • Disable protects either Gourgeist or its partners from potentially threatening moves
  • Seed Bomb is decently powered Grass type STAB
  • Rocky Helmet damages contact attackers, but most of what it switches into doesn't take damage from it
  • Safeguard protects itself and its partners from harmful status like burns

Checks and Counters
===================
**Typing Advantage**: Fire Types, such as Mega Charizard Y and Talonflame, threaten an OHKO or severe damage on Gourgeist while being able to switch into its Will-O-Wisp. Dark Types such as Bisharp or Hoopa-U also cause trouble for Gourgeist, doing massive amounts of damage while only being threatened by Will-O-Wisp while Trick Room is up.

**Burns**: Gourgeist is crippled by burns because they limit its passive recovery and halve the damage of its Phantom Force, making it much less effective.

**Taunt**: Taunt prevents Gourgeist from using most of its moves and locks it into using only Phantom Force.

[Overview]
Gourgeist-XL's array of resistances to common attacking types, solid 85 / 122/ 75 bulk, and immunities to Fake Out and Spore make it a great user of Trick Room. It also sports many useful utility moves, such as Will-O-Wisp, Leech Seed, and Disable. However, it is held back by its average offenses, meaning it can be too passive in many situations. Gourgeist-XL is also threatened by Fire-types such as Mega Charizard Y and Talonflame, which can KO or heavily damage it with their STAB attacks. It faces competition from Amoonguss, another bulky support Pokemon that functions well under Trick Room, but Gourgeist-XL's access to Trick Room and other support options lead it to be a better choice in some cases.

Moves
========

Trick Room is Gourgeist-XL's main niche in Doubles, allowing it to provide speed control for its allies. Phantom Force is this set's STAB move and acts as a pseudo-Protect while Trick Room is up, giving Gourgeist-XL passive recovery from Leftovers and Leech Seed while also avoiding any moves targeted towards it. Will-O-Wisp gives Gourgeist-XL the means to cripple physical attackers such as Mega Kangaskhan and Mega Metagross and wears down the afflicted target. Leech Seed restores HP that may have been lost while setting up Trick Room and synergizes with Phantom Force. However, Protect can also be used to prevent Gourgeist-XL from being KOed or hit with a move such as Taunt while a partner deals with the threat.

Set Details
========

Leftovers is Gourgeist-XL's preferred item, providing it with passive recovery in tandem with Leech Seed. Sitrus Berry can also be used to boost Gourgeist-XL's HP to a more secure range after taking a heavy hit. The EV spread allows it to survive an Adamant Life Orb Talonflame's Brave Bird, with the rest invested into Special Defense. The Defense investment can be increased to 168 EVs to survive an Adamant Life Orb Bisharp's Knock Off. Relaxed is used instead of Impish to lower its Speed as much as possible to become "faster" under Trick Room. Frisk is used to scout the foes' items for valuable information.

Usage Tips
========

Gourgeist-XL fits well on offensive Trick Room teams that are in need of its ability to set up Trick Room and deal chip damage to the enemy. Gourgeist-XL should use Trick Room as soon as necessary, giving it and its partners the edge against faster foes. It it best used in the mid- to late-game, when threats to it have been removed, as it can also function as a late-game win condition by stalling out foes with Leftovers and Leech Seed. However, if Gourgeist-XL needs to be brought in earlier in the match to set up Trick Room, take note of its Frisk ability; scouting out an item such as a Choice Scarf can be key to planning out the rest of the game. Although Gourgeist-XL switches into Water-types rather well, it can't hit them back super effectively, so having a powerful attacker out to finish them off is recommended.

Team Options
========

Pokemon that can take advantage of Trick Room turns generally pair well with Gourgeist-XL. Mega Camerupt and Heatran appreciate Gourgeist-XL's typing advantage over Ground- and Water-types and can take care of opposing Fire-types that threaten Gourgeist-XL. Azumarill matches up well against common Fire- and Dark-types such as Heatran and Hydreigon that scare Gourgeist-XL. Hariyama and Scrafty pressure Dark-types while also providing Fake Out support for Gourgeist-XL; Hariyama has Thick Fat to switch into Fire-types more reliably, while Scrafty threatens Ghost-types with its STAB Dark-type moves. On a semi-Trick Room team, Landorus-T bolsters Gourgeist-XL's already good Defense with Intimidate and takes care of Fire-type Pokemon such as Talonflame, Mega Charizard Y, and Heatran. Outside of Trick Room, Keldeo assumes a similar role as Azumarill does under it, matching up well against the same types of threats. Mega Kangaskhan beats Bisharp easily and helps Gourgeist-XL set up Trick Room with Fake Out. Hydreigon checks common Ghost-types, sports a resistance to Fire-type moves, and benefits from Gourgeist-XL's immunity to Fighting-type attacks.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Explosion can be used with an offensive EV spread and a Normal Gem to deal heavy damage to foes and allow other Pokemon to take advantage of Trick Room turns, but this wastes Gourgeist-XL's defensive potential. Seed Bomb threatens Water- and Ground-types, but Gourgeist-XL already checks those Pokemon well without it. Disable protects either Gourgeist-XL or its partners from potentially threatening moves. Safeguard protects Gourgeist-XL's side of the field from harmful status such as burns. Rocky Helmet damages contact attackers, but most of what Gourgeist-XL switches into doesn't use such moves. Sunny Day can be used alongside Fire-types such as Mega Camerupt and Heatran to boost the power of their STAB attacks. Skill Swap can be used to take useful abilities from foes, such as Parental Bond from Mega Kangaskhan.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Typing Advantage**: Fire-types, such as Mega Charizard Y and Talonflame, threaten an OHKO or severe damage on Gourgeist-XL with their STAB moves and are able to switch into Will-O-Wisp. Similarly, Ice-types, specifically Kyurem-B outside of Trick Room and Mega Abomasnow inside of it, generally don't care about the attack drop after Will-O-Wisp and can hit Gourgeist-XL super effectively. Dark-types such as Hydreigon, Hoopa-U, and Bisharp also cause trouble for Gourgeist-XL.

**Burns**: Gourgeist-XL is crippled by burns because they limit its passive recovery and halve the damage of its Phantom Force, making it much less effective.

**Utility Moves**: Taunt prevents Gourgeist-XL from using most of its moves and locks it into using only Phantom Force, while Encore can force it into a useless status move or force it to revert its own Trick Room.

I apologize for not doing this earlier and losing motivation on other analyses but I promise I will at least see this one through. I talked with Bughouse and I swapped the TR/will o/seed bomb/disable set to the current one; I remember a while ago seeing a Nugget Bridge report on Zach using this set in a regionals and it has worked well for me too.

Ready for QC :>

The spread survives LO Talonflame's Brave Bird, not LO Bisharp's Knock Off (this is a roll). You can either raise the def to live Knock Off (this takes 248 HP / 160+ Def) or leave as is, but list the correct thing that it's eved for plz :]

Whichever you don't do on the set should be listed in set comments.

"Keldeo takes out the Dark and Fire types that threaten Gourg" well if pumpkin is a mon that uses TR probably good to mention Azumarill here too.

Mention in OO that Explosion is best done with Normal Gem or its chip is so small that its pointless

otherwise this is good and on right track. Fix these things and 1/3

Overview:
- Faces competition from Amoonguss as a bulky Grass-type on Trick Room / Semi-Trick Room, which has a better typing and more support utility with access to Rage Powder / Spore, and as a Ghost-type it faces competition from Aegislash which provides more offensive pressure amongst other things. However, it does provide speed control and can cripple opposing physical attackers with Will-o-Wisp which gives it a useful niche over them.

Team Options:
- Heatran because it's a staple of semi-Trick Room and shares very good good offensive / defensive synergy with Gourgeist. Not to mention if you ever feel inclined to do so, you can activate it's Flash Fire by yourself with Will-o-Wisp
- Kangaskhan beats Bisharp easily and works well on semi-Trick Room. Fake Out to help activate Trick Room, Will-o-Wisp to cripple physical attacker and Phantom Force to do heavy damage vs Ghost-types.
- Hariyama and Scrafty also make good partners for similar reasons. Hariyama can also switch in on Fire-type moves well thanks to Thick Fat, and Scrafty pressures Aegislash, Hydreigon, and Bisharp, as well as opposing Ghost-types.
- Rhyperior can beat Fire-types such as Heatran and Talonflame with ease, and under Trick Room it can even beat Charizard. It also beats Aegislash and Bisharp, though of course it has to watch out for Kings Shield if using Drill Run. Gourgeist provides a Water-, Fighting-, and Grass-type switch in, and obviously the Trick Room support.
- Hydreigon works well against opposing Ghost-types, being able to check Aegislash and Gengar, it also does resist Fire-type Pokemon beating Heatran as well, and also beats Bisharp. Hydreigon appreciates the Fighting-type immunity, and the ability to cripple physical attackers.

Other Options:
- Sunny Day is an option if you pair it with Camerupt or Heatran
- Skill Swap for Skill Swap shenanigans
- Trick-or-Treat can be an intriguing option TO BE QUITE HONEST

Checks and Counters:
- Hydreigon deserves much more mention in Typing Advantage as it doesn't worry about burns anywhere near as much as Bisharp or Hoopa
- Add Ice-types, Kyurem-B commonly uses Substitute letting it avoid Will-o-Wisp and Leech Seed, Mega Abomasnow outslows it under Trick Room, is immune to Leech Seed, and doesn't mind burns that much since it is prmiarily a Special Attacker
- Taunt should fall under Miscellaneous or Utility Moves (for the love of me I can never remember these tags), but either way, Taunt and Encore both really screw with this thing.

Do this for 2/3 and get this written up

Not qc but I think you should specify what Gourgeist forme this is, the Gourgeist forme that you put in the analysis refers to Gourgeist Average, but I assume that you are referring to Gourgeist-XL, so it should probably reflect that

This is fairly solid as is, not really much to add. I think this sentence got mixed up somewhere, maybe you just missed out the word speed;

"It also functions well on Semi-Trick Room due to its Gourgeist should use Trick Room as soon as it's advantageous, giving it and its partners the edge against faster foes."

Put 0 speed ivs in the set and mention it in set details.

In usage tips, also say that not carrying Seed Bomb gives you limited options against water types, as you won't be able to attack them super effectively, or without using Phantom Force or Leech Seed, which won't be able to finish them off until after the turn finishes / the next turn and they've already dealt the damage that may have been aimed at a partner.

Edit: Spoke to qsns in PM and cleared up the wording of the part about Gourg resisting water but not being able to hit back SE

I removed this because it's misleading for reasons I hope are obvious. Also debating whether or not Seed Bomb should be slashed behind Phantom Force but that's something I could probably do later. Thank you for the check Weebl.

Leftovers is Gourgeist-XL's preferred item, providing it with additional passive recovery in tandem with Leech Seed. Sitrus Berry can also be used to boost Gourgeist-XL's HP to a more secure health range after taking a heavy hit. The EV spread allows it to survive an Adamant Life Orb Talonflame's Brave Bird, with the rest invested into Special Defense. The Defense investment can be increased to 168 EVs to live survive an Adamant Life Orb Bisharp's Knock Off. Relaxed is used instead of Impish to lower its Speed as much as possible to become "faster" under Trick Room. Frisk is used to scout the foes' items for valuable information.

Usage Tips
========

Gourgeist-XL fits well on offensive Trick Room teams that are in need of its ability to set up Trick Room and deal chip damage to the enemy. It also functions well on semi-Trick Room due to its Speed. (needs some clarification; "above average Speed for a Trick Room setter?" "due to its Speed" really isn't telling me much, what's so special about it?) Gourgeist-XL should use Trick Room as soon as necessary, giving it and its partners the edge against faster foes.

========

Hariyama and Scrafty pressure Dark-types while also providing Fake Out support for Gourgeist-XL; (SC) Hariyama has Thick Fat to switch into Fire-types more reliably, while Scrafty threatens Ghost-types with its STAB Dark-type moves. Hydreigon checks common Ghost-types, sports a resistance to Fire-type moves, and pairs well with benefits from Gourgeist-XL's immunity to Fighting-type attacks.

Other Options
=============

Safeguard protects its Gourgeist-XL's side of the field from harmful status such as burns. Rocky Helmet damages contact attackers, but most of what Gourgeist-XL switches into doesn't take damage from it use such moves. Sunny Day can be used alongside Fire-types such as Mega Camerupt and Heatran to boost the power of their STAB attacks. Skill Swap can be used to take useful abilities from foes, such as Parental Bond from Mega Kangaskhan.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Utility Moves**: Taunt prevents Gourgeist-XL from using most of its moves and locks it into using only Phantom Force, while Encore can force it into a useless status move or force it to revert its own Trick Room.

idk anymore if shaian or qsns is going to implement this, but either of you guys can go ahead and finish this imo

Implemented the GP check, as well as made that correction. Thank you both for your help, Plumberjack and Darkmalice. This is ready to be uploaded, I'd do it myself but I'm on vacation and about to head out for a fireworks show.

Incidentally, the fact that I did this during said vacation is actually really really really sad.
