[OVERVIEW]

Gourgeist-L has access to reliable recovery, as well as amazing physical bulk and a solid Speed stat, but its mediocre Special Defense is a setback. Due to Gourgeist-L's Ghost typing, it can deter the use of Rapid Spin, although it has to watch out for Torkoal's Fire-type STAB moves. Gourgeist-L can scout for foes' items by virtue of Frisk, spread burns, and check common Pokemon such as Carracosta, Ursaring, and Barbaracle. However, Gourgeist-L is completely outclassed by Gourgeist-XL, which can do everything it does better due to its superior stat distribution.

[SET]
name: Defensive
move 1: Will-O-Wisp
move 2: Synthesis
move 3: Seed Bomb
move 4: Foul Play
item: Leftovers
ability: Frisk
nature: Impish
evs: 252 HP / 88 Def / 104 SpD / 64 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Will-O-Wisp can get chip damage on foes, as well as cripple physical attackers bar Fire-types and Guts users. Synthesis offers Gourgeist-L reliable recovery, which can keep it healthy. Seed Bomb hits Water-types such as Simipour and Floatzel, as well as Ground- and Rock-types such as Stunfisk and Golem. Foul Play targets physical attackers that take less damage from Seed Bomb, such as Rapidash and Stoutland.

Set Details
========

The given Special Defense EVs allow Gourgeist-L to avoid being OHKOed by Zebstrika's Overheat, while Gourgeist-L's Speed investment allows it to outpace maximum Speed Carracosta, Golem, and Armaldo. The Defense EVs with an Impish nature and Gourgeist-L's large base Defense stat allow it to take physical hits as well as it can. Leftovers gives Gourgeist-L a bit of passive recovery per turn, while Frisk can be used to scout for a foe's item.

Usage Tips
========

Gourgeist-L's main priority is spreading burn using Will-O-Wisp, but it should be kept healthy by means of Synthesis. Use Gourgeist-L to spinblock, but be wary of a Knock Off from Armaldo or Fire-type STAB move from Torkoal. Due to Gourgeist-L's massive Defense, it can switch into physical attackers such as Ursaring, Armaldo, Carracosta, and Barbaracle. Be aware of Guts users such as Machoke, as well as Flash Fire users such as Ninetales and Rapidash, as they can switch into Gourgeist-L's Will-O-Wisp and hit back with a boosted attack.

Team Options
========

Gourgeist-L works well with entry hazard setters such as Roselia, Quilladin, Carracosta, Piloswine, and Clefairy, as it can deter the use of Rapid Spin due to its Ghost typing. Pokemon such as Grumpig and Zweilous work well with Gourgeist-L by taking on Fire-types such as Rapidash and Ninetales. Fighting-types such as Machoke and Monferno can defeat Dark-types and Ice-types with their STAB moves. Rock-types such as Probopass and Golem can take advantage of Flying-types, the former setting up Stealth Rock or gaining momentum with Volt Switch and the latter setting up Stealth Rock or hitting them with a Rock-type STAB move. Clerics such as Lickilicky and Grumpig can heal off status from Gourgeist-L and allow it to stay on the field longer and remain healthy.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Leech Seed can be used to get some damage off and gradually recover Gourgeist-L's health. Magic Coat can be used to bounce back status moves and entry hazards, but it takes up a valuable moveslot. Rocky Helmet can be used instead of Leftovers for residual damage on contact hits, but then Gourgeist-L misses out on passive recovery. Rock Slide can be used to hit Fire- and Ice-types, but it takes up an important moveslot, and most of its targets can outpace Gourgeist-L and hit it with a super effective move. Shadow Sneak can be run for STAB priority, but it doesn't hit very hard and isn't needed as much as Gourgeist-L's other moves. Toxic can be run in place of Will-O-Wisp to take on walls better, but it takes away Gourgeist-L's ability to severely cripple physical attackers.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Fire-types**: Rapidash, Torkoal, Ninetales, Simisage, and other Fire-types are immune to Will-O-Wisp and take little damage from Seed Bomb, although the former needs to watch out for Foul Play. In addition, Simisage and Ninetales can use Gourgeist-L as setup fodder, as well as threaten it with their STAB moves.

**Ice-types**: Rotom-F and Regice don't mind switching into Gourgeist-L and can fire off Ice moves against it. Beartic, on the other hand, needs to watch out for Will-O-Wisp and Foul Play.

**Roselia**: Roselia can take any hit Gourgeist-L wants to throw at it, heal off a burn via Natural Cure, and use Gourgeist-L as Spikes fodder.

**Flash Fire Pokemon**: Rapidash and Ninetales get a boost to their Fire-type moves by switching into a Will-O-Wisp, but Rapidash needs to watch out for a Foul Play.

I'd hold on for reassigning this Anty, as he said that he would be away until Friday. He just forgot to mention that here.

Something tells me that the ev spread is inefficiente ev wise, try getting in the same numbers with an impish nature

mention its realllly small niche over gourg-xl being that it can outspeed a few more slower offensive mons

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========
mention rock- and ground-types as targets for seed bomb as well
mention that foul play discourages setup from stuff like ursaring and leafeon

Usage Tips
========
mention that it can stout for items w/ frisk
you'll probably do this during write up, but mention spinners it can switch in on, and that it should be cautious of knock off from armaldo and fire move from torkoal

Team Options
========
mention water + fire to form FireWaterGrass core
mention poliwrath as a partner as it can beat pawniard and somewhat take on fire-types like rapidash while gourg takes electric- and grass-moves for poli

you'll probably do this in write up, but mention the downsides to these (ie. w/ helmet you lose recovery & gourg-xl is a better TR setter)

Checks and Counters
===================
i would mention status as toxic and burn are super annoying and make it hard for gourg to switch into stuff
mention dark-types
roselia is like its best counter so id make that its own thing
mention magic guard mons like clef

In Team Options, mention what type of team Gourgeist-L best fits on. Also make a mention of Magic Coat in OO. Roselia should most likely get its own mention, as it can use Gourgeist-L as setup fodder for Spikes. The analysis is fine and all, but try to not make it look like the Gourgeist-XL analysis.

in the overview specify that its solid speed is just solid for a wall and also specifically say why gourg-xl outclasses it

Im doubting whether the SDEF ev's are really worth it, but it does help with other notable things like taking zebby's overheat (mention in SD as well)

in moves; foul play doesnt discourage mons from boosting their attack any more than willowisp

In UT you dont mention switching into physical attackers at all (pls list examples), and even when predicting a willowisp, ursaring would never switch into a gourgeist. Also saying beware of coverage is imo dumb, esp when the example you give is obvious and gourgeist isnt trying to take on special attackers

In TO it doesnt appreciate hazard removal more than any other mon, and also rock types dont take on ice types (definitely not golem). Also you should definitely mention fire checks as that is its most prominent weakness

In oo you should remove trickband as this gourg is a lot weaker than the other one, and definitely remove trick room lol

c&c: i wouldnt say torkoal uses gourg as set up fodder as it isnt exactly a sweeper, ss is just used to get past spinblockers
Gourgeist isnt exactly weak to residual damage when it has reliable recovery and lefties
For guts and flash fire, you have mentioned both the flash fire users, ursaring should never ever ever run guts and im fairly certain you beat machoke any way after recovering off the first knock off
lastly i dont know why PU analysis have a fetish for taunt but you should remove that as its not like you are staying in on any of them either (other users like grumpig and simipour either get forced out or force you out)

Twix 2/3

"although Gourgeist-L needs less investment in Speed to outpace foes." - this is misleading as xl is still bulkier even though it needs to invest more evs in speed to hit the same stat

change the spread as poliwrath is nu

remove mentions of banned mons

You need to give at least one reason for using Gourgeist-L over XL, otherwise what's the point of the analysis? It looks like it has better Speed, so mention that. Otherwise this sentence just tells the reader to stop reading and go and look at the XL analysis. However, Gourgeist-L is generally outclassed by Gourgeist-XL, which can do almost everything it does better due to its superior stat distribution; its only niche is in being able to _____.

Gourgeist-L's main priority is spreading burn to foes This is a weird image - like Gourgeist is burnt and it's spreading it like disease. I think you're fine cutting, but if you want something more vivid then maybe "spreading burns around" using Will-O-Wisp, but it should be kept healthy by means of Synthesis. Switch in Gourgeist-L when you predict a foe to use Rapid Spin Don't tell the Don't talk about individual plays - say instead: Use Gourgeist-L to spinblock, but be wary of a Knock Off from Armaldo or Fire-type STAB move from Torkoal. Malley I added everything, bar the change in the overview due to the fact that Gourgeist-L literally has no niche over Gourgeist-XL. The reason it's getting an analysis is that all fully evolved Pokemon need one.
