[Overview]

· Outclassed by other mono-normal types if it goes fully supportive or fully offensive

· Has low base 60 SpD that Intimidate cannot buffer

· Slower than even most walls in the tier: Alomomola, Misdreavus, Tangela, etc.

· Intimidate and 90 HP allow it to tank some neutral physical hits

· Lack of resistances and immunities barring Ghost diminish bulk considerably

· The combination of Intimidate, high attacking power, and a fairly unique movepool separate it from other Normal-types in NU.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

· An Adamant nature was chosen to maximize Granbull's attacking power while an Impish nature can be used if more defensive bulk is desired.

· Its investment in attack is what separates it from Miltank as a physical supporter which gives it a more threatening presence offensively than Miltank.

· Even with Intimidate, Granbull is still afraid of even non-STAB fighting attacks, so Misdreavus and Musharna make excellent partners to shore up this weakness with the former being able to burn with Will-O-Wisp and the latter being able to set up with Calm Mind.

· Offensively, anything that get rid of the Rock, Steel, or Ghost types that wall Granbull make good partners as well. Golurk makes the best offensive partner as it can hit all three types super effectively with its STAB. Skuntank can't touch Rock- and Steel-types, but it can pursuit trap the Ghosts Granbull struggles with.

· Anything that's vulnerable to status appreciates Granbull's Heal Bell and anything with a low base speed appreciates its Thunder Wave.



[Other Options]

· Has Double Edge to hit harder than Return, but the recoil hurts Granbull as it has no reliable recovery to mitigate it.

· Super Fang can be used to wear down walls and other things it struggles to damage, but Granbull is often too slow to make use of it.

· Superpower can be used over Close Combat, but the attack drop is undesirable over Close Combat's defense drops.

· A Choice Band is also viable, but is mostly outclassed Sheer Force Tauros who is much faster and hits nearly as hard with Rock Climb as Granbull hits with Return.

· Although Trick Room is generally a poor strategy in NU, Granbull can work very well in Trick Room teams because it brings the much needed support Trick Room teams need to function.

· Has Work Up and Bulk Up as boosting options, but is too slow to effectively use the former and has no reliable recovery to effectively use the latter. Both also either replace a coverage move or replace a support move which Granbull does not really want to do.

· Like most Normal types, has many special attacking option, but its 60 base SpA is not really useable even if boosted by Work Up.



[Checks and Counters]

· Fighting types in general check Granbull. Choice Band Sawk can OHKO with Close Combat even after Intimidate while Gurdurr can take Granbull's attacks, gain a Guts bosst if it switches in on Thunder Wave or Toxic, and recover its health with Drain Punch.

· If Granbull is using Close Combat, any Ghost type will be immune to its attacks while only having to watch out for Thunder Wave or Toxic. Misdreavus is the best option to wall Close Combat Granbull as it can shrug off status with Heal Bell.

· If using Crunch, Rock and Steel types, namely Probopass and Bastiodon, are free to set up Stealth Rocks as they take almost nothing from Granbull.

· Alomomola can wear Granbull down with Scald or Waterfall then heal with Wish, while only having to worry about Toxic beause it takes almost nothing from Granbull's attacks otherwise.

· Tangela and Vileplume work similarly to Alomomola while even being able to put Granbull to sleep with Sleep Powder. Vileplume can even shrug off status with Aromatherapy.

  • Can support the team with Heal Bell, T-wave / Toxic while also being a an offensive threat which differentiates it from other mono-normal types
Miltank can also do this (albeit relying on Body Slam for Paralysis)

Looking at Granbull it really doesn't ave too many options that it can use that aren't done better by something else.

Other options ccould be expanded to include;
  • Quick Feet + Facade - although it's really outclassed by ursaring
  • Payback (Again, low base speed, will more often than not underspeed most things)
  • Earthquake so you can still hit Steels when used alongside Body Slam (Secret Power for more PP)
  • Brick Break instead of Close combat / Superpower (because of Stat drops / illegalities) but there is a noticeable drop in power. Also Low Kick which hits some things for the same damage without the stat drops - we're talking bastiodon, Golem and Probopass (but you miss out on a harder hit on Liepard)
  • Wild Charge / Thunderpunch

  • also want to mention Mega Kick - Although there are a lot of illegalites with its other moves I'm not so sure.

Everything it tries to do, other things can do better, which should be emphasised (Even the set listed is done better by Miltank)

Well, Miltank usually goes fully supportive which is why I gave Granbull max attack investment. Granbull is outclassed by basically everything, I agree, but support Miltank can't hit nearly as hard as Granbull while also trying to support its team. That's literally its only set that I found that it does slightly better than what Miltank can do. I will emphasis how it's outclassed though, and I will add everything you mentioned in other options. Thanks FireMage!

  • I wouldn't say that Intimidate and base 90 HP make it physically bulky, so much as that they allow it to tank some neutral physical hits.
  • For the last point, I'd just emphasize that the combination of Intimidate and fairly unique support moves allow Granbull to separate itself from other Normal-types in NU. Thunder Wave and Intimidate don't cut it because Stoutland has that, and Heal Bell and Thunder Wave don't cut it because Miltank has Heal Bell and Body Slam. It's the combination of the three that make Granbull usable.
[SET]
  • Change the order of the slashes on move 4 to correspond with move 2. Close Combat should be used with Toxic, while Crunch should be used with Thunder Wave so that you always have some way of doing something to Golurk.
  • Move Body Slam to Additional Comments for now. I'd rather have the extra power most of the time, and it would suck to paralyze something you want to Toxic. The illegality with Close Combat is the nail in the coffin, as that would be the only time I would want to use it because you don't have to worry about it interfering with Toxic.

  • On the mention of Toxic and Thunder Wave, explain that they correspond with move 2 and why that is.
[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]
  • When you talk about partners to get rid of Ghost-, Rock-, and Steel-types, mention Golurk first. Skuntank is good to get rid of Ghost-types and should still be mentioned, but it can't really do much of anything to most Rock- and Steel-types.
  • Make a short mention that you can use all three offensive moves on the set along with one of Thunder Wave, Toxic, or Heal Bell, but that it would be heavily outclassed by other Normal-types.
[Other Options]
  • When you mention Granbull in Trick Room teams, add that Trick Room is generally a poor strategy; while I'm sure it would do fine as a Trick Room sweeper, I don't want to encourage use of Trick Room as a playstyle.

Remove Body Slam from the set and make a mention of it in Additional Comments. If anyone disagrees with this, it can be changed back.

Remove the first sentence, the second and third sentence already say what that first sentence is trying to say, but in more detail. In the second paragraph combine the first 3 sentences together. Something like: "Even with Intimidate Grabull's lack of resistances and poor Special Defense and Speed make it difficult for it to keep up with both attackers and walls alike." Then remove the last 2 sentences are combine the paragraphs. Reasoning for this is: those walls you mentioned do not like getting Toxic'd and Missy doesn't like switching into a Crunch either.

[Additional Comments]
I would remove the part saying that virtually everything in NU likes Granbull support because it makes it sound way better than it is. Just say that many Pokemon like Heal Bell support. That and that being able to lure in physicall walls and Toxic and Twaving faster Pokemon can beneficial as well. Combine the last sentence with the one where you talk about Golurk being a good partner. Say that Golurk can beat the things that annoy Granbull and it also appreciates Thunder Wave support for faster threats or Toxic support for the walls.

[Other Options]
Don't mention Superpower, Close Combat is better in every way. You should probably mention Zangoose instead of Sheer Force Tauros, or at least add it in since it has the same coverage as Grabull except faster and better Normal-type STAB.

Implement @HispanicPanic and I will stamp. While you're doing this you should also look over the write up to fix grammatical errors as best as you can before it goes to GP. Some other things to fix would be things like "Rock and Steel types" changed to "Rock- and Steel-types".

Misdreavus is the best option to wall Close Combat Granbull as it can shrug off status with Heal Bell. If using Crunch: (change to comma) Rock-and Steel-types, namely such as Probopass and Bastiodon, are free to set up Stealth Rocks Rock as they take almost nothing from Granbull. Alomomola can wear Granbull down with Scald or Waterfall then heal with Wish, while only having to worry about Toxic because it takes almost nothing from Granbull's attacks otherwise. Tangela and Vileplume work similarly to Alomomola whilealso being able to and can also put Granbull to sleep with Sleep Powder. Vileplume can shrug off status with Aromatherapy. <p>Granbull is an outclassed Pokemon if it decides to go fully offensive or fully defensive. It's the combination of its usable bulk with Intimidate, high Attack, and fairly unique support movepool that separate it from other Normal-types in NU. Its base 120 Attack can leave dents in anything that does not resist its moves, and its support moves can give more offensive teams much needed clerical support without giving up too much momentum. Even with Intimidate though, Granbull's lack of resistances, poor Special Defense, and low Speed make it difficult for it to keep up with both attackers and walls alike.</p>

Body Slam can be used over Return for theits paralysis chance, but Granbull will miss the extra power, not to mention the fact itthat Body Slam is illegal with Close Combat. Even with Intimidate, Granbull is still afraid of even non-STABany Fighting-type attacks, so Misdreavus and Musharna make excellent defensive partners to shore up this weakness with the former being able to burn foes with Will-O-Wisp and the latter being able to set up with Calm Mind. Offensively, anything that can get rid of the Rock-, Steel-, and Ghost-types that wall Granbull make a good partner as well. The best offensive partner for Granbull would be Golurk. Golurk can switch in on Fighting-type attacks that threaten Granbull and take out all thre Rock-, Steel-, and Ghost-types that Granbull cannot hit hard with its STAB attacks.
