ETA for the qualifiers will be posted soon depending on the answer to the following question:

singles or doubles?

Toon
S0L1D G0LD

And yes we decided not to wait for a third candidate any longer on this qualifier.

I'll take it, I'm finishing up a thing atm but I should have the round up within about an hour, probably a little bit more.

I'll take it.

Also, it probably gets no attention because not many people unnecessarily follow/watch Gym Quals Threads.

EDIT @ Below: Go ahead

Battle-wise you were possibly the one with the best performance. Although not by much and there were many reasons for that, but I won't dwell in those details.
The problem is: as of the last round, you got the following very troublesome pointers:
a) Your average time to order (I am ignoring time to point out mistakes) is around 80 hours. Given that 72h is the DQ limit you basically average as a john. To give you some perspective, Ooraloo's average was 17.2 and Toon's average was 20.44.
b) You passed DQ 5 times during this battle (95h, 151h, 275h, 199h and 72h3') with many times avoiding that by less than 5 hours. Toon passed DQ once and Ooraloo didn't pass DQ at all.
c) You posted 4 LoAs during the battle. To be more specific:
c.1) August 28th "I will be slightly less active over the next few days". On the following days you weren'to to order, so no DQ passing occured here.
c.2) September 20th "I would greatly appreciate an extra day or two of leniency.". You got 8 days of leniency -_-.
c.3) October 4th "This week in particular looks to be busier than the rest for me, so I'm going to need another 1 - 1+1/2 days for my tournament obligations.". During that period you weren't to order, so no DQ passing occured here.
c.4) November 15th "My internet is a bit worse than normal lately. While I'm not necessarily asking for more time, if I've been a bit slow this is why, and I apologize for it.". Your next (and last) DQ occured 14 days after that, so I will consider it not justified.
The point? none of your LoAs justified the 5 times you passed DQ.
d) This one is the worst. On September 12 you said "and I don't intend to touch dq again". And on the following order you took almost 12 days and 9 days on the one after that.

My conclusion: You can't be trusted with a Gym leadership right now.

I mean, I am truly sorry for the harshness of said conclusion. As Leethoof would love to say to you, I am all for giving extra chances. If you didn't have a past history or if your LoAs coincided with your DQ-passing, I would possibly reconsider the matter. But you were kicked from the gym due to terrible activity and this battle does absolutely nothing to prove that you won't follow the same route again. You had 5 DQ-Passings and 4 LoAs that fail to justify them on the slightest. You took your sweet time even rounds that were in theory easy (which isn't against the rules, but it is rubbing salt on an open wound -_-) Also, you say you won't pass DQ and then proceed to pass it twice (and really pass it, you passed the equivalent of 3 times it).

I made the mistake of recommending a john to a gym before. It failed. I won't make the same mistake again. So, again, I am sorry, but you are rejected. Feel free to try again on a different qual on a later notice. But only do so when you are capable of obeying the promises you make. On the plus side, you definitely have the skills to be a Gym leader without much hassle. Just work on your activity and you should be fine on any qualifier.

Ooraloo

- Team building was nice. I mean, your team was basically Toon's team with Gyarados (and lanturn>krilowatt), so it was probably one of those quals where teambuilding would be easy. Still, worth mentioning.
- Good and plain First Round.
- I can't help but think that this round was good for you more due to Dogfish choking than you pushing the envelop. I mean, there was a gap (lack of solarbeam) and you exploited it marvelously, so that is definitely a plus. But df did choke, so your accomplishment was slightly less impressive than the end result might indicate. Also, I feel I will repeat this commentary (regarding df, yas and me) some times during this analysis.
- I am not 100% sure switching to Volkraken vs Mega Venusaur was the best idea ever. In the end the results were...kinda disappointing. On the round you did the switch you lost your item and tied the damage race and on the following round you lost a good chunk of hp to deal...19hp of damage total? seems like a very "eh" result for a matchup you decided upon. Although to be fair it was Mega Venusaur.
- jjayy missed overgrow on Giga Drain. Thought it was worth mentioning.
- Gyarados doing work hahahah. The way it took down Eelektross (the most potentially dangerous of all mons due to terrific matchups control capabilities) and crippled Mega Venusaur (could have crippled more if the bounce hit) was really nice to see.
- Doing quals is for us involves a great deal of pressure. I mean, at first it may seem easy, we don't need to win. But ignoring self-esteem issues, the qual is as good as how well the examiner is doing. If the examiner ends up being backed in a corner with no hope of survival, there is the (understandable) tendency of both examiner and candidate not caring as much. Resulting on plays that, while subpar, can't be held against the person who made this. We saw this in all matches, thanks to Articuno. I mean, all qualifiers had the examiner in a pickle before Articuno, but its terrible terribleness just converted a "bad situation" into "let's just end this wreakage of a match". Which is hard to judge. Still, let us proceed.
- Your Greninja vs Articuno matchup had nice orders, but a good deal of...unexpectedness. I mean, why would I use a Ice-Combo? Rock Smash combo was far more dangerous. Why did I use Sky Attack when Avalanche would deal a good 4hp more damage? etc -_-. Yeah, you ended up being better here, but you could be even better. Splitting hairs I suppose though.
- Nice sub abuse on Venusaur vs Greninja.
- Last two rounds were on auto-pilot. There is nothing out of the ordinary on them, for the better or the worst.

The reading I get from your battle is basically "I managed to get the win early, so lets bring back the babies in one piece". Your read on matchups was good, the matchups control also. Gyarados was very well used and Volkraken poorly used in return. When greninja entered the fray the end-result was a foregone conclusion, thanks to Gyarados getting rid of Eelektross. The Bounce miss was unfortunate, but fortunate also, as it dimished the end-influence of the choke. Very good run overall.

Toon

-
Team building was nice. I mean, your team was basically ToonOoraloo's team without Gyarados (and lanturn<krilowatt), so it was probably one of those quals where teambuilding would be easy. Still, worth mentioning.
- Your first turn was definitely worse than ooraloo. Even though it wasn't bad per se.
-
I can't help but think that this round was good for you more due to Dogfish choking than you pushing the envelop. I mean, there was a gap (lack of solarbeam countercoat subs) and you exploited it marvelously, so that is definitely a plus. But df did choke, so your accomplishment was slightly less impressive than the end result might indicate. Also, I feel I will repeat this commentary (regarding df, yas and me) some times during this analysis.
- So...you needed to pick off a Venusaur with a mon that wouldn't be screwed over by Eelektross (and articuno, but it only affects like kingdra and ludicolos -_-). Greninja would be the natural pick, and yet you picked Volkraken fsr. I mean, if you picked Greninja and attacked with Shadow Sneak, while subbing "if endure then Swagger - Protect - Dive" and a sub for combos, you probably could have defeated venusaur without being touched and with a mon that would wreck Eelektross much better than Volkraken. Relying on hax? yes, but worst case scenario has venusaur doing much less to greninja than eelektross did to volkraken. Seems like a lost opportunity here. This seems minor, but that was a significant mistake.
- The Volkraken vs Eelektross matchup seems...funky. Well it was a nice way to get the job done. But it created an unnecessary mess IMO, given you could finish this in a much classier way with greninja.
- Mental note: punch yas for using hax to make my analysing job harder and for using substitute on an Infiltrator mon -_-.
- Kingdra taking down Articuno was indeed a nice view. but
I can't help but think that this round was good for you more due to Dogfish me choking than you pushing the envelop. I mean, there was a gap (lack of solarbeam countercoat terrible anti-disable subs) and you exploited it marvelously, so that is definitely a plus. But I did choke, so your accomplishment was slightly less impressive than the end result might indicate. Also, I feel I will repeat this commentary (regarding df, yas and me) some times during this analysis.

You managed to exploit the mistakes of the examiners better than Ooraloo did. In the other hand, you were closer to defeat than Ooraloo. If yas did better with articuno (Roost+chill instead of substitute+hail basically but I will spare you that quote), you would end up in a more complicated situation. Still, given it is your first qualifier and that you are here for less time than ooraloo, it was certainly a very impressive result.

So let's get to business: The...special circunstances of this qualifier made them way harder to judge than others. Having more than one examiner and having all of them in bad irl situations made the overall performance of this side of the field much worse than what would be expected. Rookie mistakes were made by all three examiners and, while they are somewhat easy to detect and discard, they always leave a "what if" bitter taste. That being said, the end result is very elucidating. Toon got on a massive choke with countercoat (a sub that should be muscle memory on normal circunstances) and got rid of the most powerful (not potentially dangerous due to being predictable, but it is more durable and has more punch than eelektross) pokemon on the examiner's roster in one feel swoop. And still ended with a worse result than Ooraloo, who needed to face the full brunt of Venusaur's power, due to that miss. While that kingdra vs articuno matchup was better played than greninja vs articuno, Toon had the possibility of impending doom to motivate him (even at half hp, it was possible, albeit slightly unlikely, that articuno beat kingdra), whereas Ooraloo had the match on her bag already. Ooraloo showed a better arsenal with Gyarados as well as a better understanding of matchups control than Toon (her Volkraken vs Venusaur was better played than Toon's, for sure) and ended up with a better result even before whirlwind hax.

Because of that, Ooraloo is being awarded the Water Gym Leadership. Congratulations. Please PM us your arena asap.
