I did start appreciating acts 1-4 when I re-read Homestuck, but yeah i can't lie the first time around Homestuck was a lot of "this is pretty fucking cool (dave)" and "uggggggh"(WM).

That said act 3 & 4 are very, very good.

Its more that the first few acts aren't as epic and exciting as Act 5. The humour in the first few acts is awesome, but for a lot of readers it might not compare.
As much as it sounds like I hated the beginning, I didn't really. I was kinda indiscriminate. I'm like Jake English, but with comics. I'm just saying stuff like that based on most people's reactions.

    Yep.

Granted, there are plenty of moments where it's easy to become confused about how that world works, but the main reason I prefer PS over HS is that the former is 100% Hussie narration, while the other is a mix of narration and chatlogs (although technically still 100% Hussie). His narration tend to get to the point rather quickly, while still having room to be humorous and detailed thanks to his choice of words and similes. The logs, on the other hand, can get really lengthy despite not revealing that much, and I often find myself skimming them while searching for keywords and whatnot.

With that said, the chatlogs are obviously the thing that makes Homestuck an entirely different creation than Problem Sleuth and would be an empty shell without them, since we can actually get to know about the characters now and watch them develop over time, and there are plenty of occasions where that interaction have amused me to no end.

Have a few of my favorites.

    no spoilers (open)
DAVESPRITE: you were supposed to break it to get it out of the thing
DAVESPRITE: like another personal sort of mythological milestone you were supposed to clear
    DAVE: really
DAVE: there was no other way to get it out
    DAVE: thats kind of retarded
    DAVESPRITE: well i dont know
DAVESPRITE: maybe if john was to try with his pure heart and shit it woulda popped out like a champagne cork and fuckin hero confetti woulda blasted him in the face

GG: talking to you is so terrible
GG: its making my headache worse
CG: OH YEAH, BECAUSE TALKING TO YOU HAS JUST BEEN ABSOLUTE EUPHORIA.
CG: DON'T EVEN TALK TO ME ABOUT HEADACHES.
CG: RIGHT NOW THERE'S A LUMBERJACK SPLITTING WOOD ON MY THINK PAN.
CG: HE'S GOT THE FOREARMS OF A CHOLERBEAR, A MOUNTAIN OF LOGS, AND NOTHING BUT FUCKING TIME.

TG: i said we agreed youd leave me alone to grieve
TG: didnt say whether i actually would or actually am
    GC: W3LL, 4R3 YOU?
TG: i am grieving to the max like a widow on dead husband island

TT: We've already established that all of your dreams are packed with enough homoerotic symbolism to lift Freudian theory from the ashes of discreditation.
TG: yeah thats a given but i didnt even dream about puppets this time
    TT: Are you serious?
TT: I'm clearing my schedule. This is a major breakthrough.

Not surprisingly, most of them involve Dave.

Yes, I have to agree Problem Sleuth is an excellent story if you don't want to read through thousands and thousands of pages. In some ways its much sillier than Homestuck, but it still has a good story and is generally fun to read.

the reason i read homestuck is for the millions of call backs and call forwards. you could probably read the entire thing three times over and not catch all of them on your own.

New update, new flash, and a new quest where I'll be hunting down the music track used in the former.

Update! (wow he got through signing kickstarter stuff fast)

-Adventure time! Looks like they got to some new gear (highlights: jake with a lara croft outfit, jane wearing another stash)

-so many days adventuring, according to a friend of mine, it's April 2012 from their perspective.

-...And we're back to the intermission. hehe. Hussie's either trolling or he wants to finish up a few things with the A2 / B1 kids. I don't mind, because I love that group.

-it's looking like the B1 kids are going to meet the B2 kids soon, huh.

Specifically it's the day before April 13, which you should know is a fairly significant date.

He just looks so unhappy. It's almost enough to excuse any later universe destroying he may or may not later partake in.

Yes this update was incredible, skeleton minions are awesome! Also: LOPAN is officially the best planet.
And now we're Caliborn! He is probably my favourite character to be honest- so evil, and yet, so dorky.

I think the reason some people find it difficult to get in to Homestuck is from hype backlash. They hear how amazing it is from fans, and see fanart of trolls and god-tiers. Then they read the first page and it's about some kid in his room so they think "is this the same comic?". I have tried to get friends to read HS but they read the first few pages and it just doesn't strike up much interest. If someone is not a reading type, then I don't think they will enjoy HS with its chatlogs and walls of text (which is one of the parts I enjoy the most). The characters are one of HS's strong points, and probably the reason why so many people are hooked. I do agree however, that the plot has seemed to be lagging a bit recently; it seems like the comic has gotten too complicated for its own good.

Since people are posting their favorite chatlogs I'll share mine.

?CG: THE CROWD GOES WILD WITH DISMAY, AND THEN COMMITS MASS SUICIDE.
