How to Build a Great Stall

Hello everybody! This is a simple guide about how to build an effective stall team in your own way, hope you find it useful!

In our way through the 6th gen metagame we´ve encountered many different battle styles. a broad range of offensive, balanced and defensive teams have sculpted OU metagame and created the way we play right now.
Stall has become very effective in this generation thanks to the amazing coverture of appearently immortal pokémon with sky high deffenses that can make cry every single offensive pokémon that they find in their way.
So... if you are new or you have some problems with your deffensive team this guide could be helpful.

Here are some examples succesfull stall teams:

Teh fgts dat nevr die (by TFL)

-the current top 1 on PS! ladder (also uses Charizard X) - (by Dauude Sandstorm)

GOTH-Zard semi stall (by Fingerscrossed)

Phaeded (by Phaenon)

A commonly seen stall team (this one was posted by TFL as an antecedent to his team)

When we analyze that stall teams we easily see that they have something in common:

A --
or
--
--
--
-- B
This structure is one of the most effective (if not the best) way to build a stall team.
(A and B are pokémon you choose).
So let´s give it a try and start teambuilding!

STEP 1- A Physical Wall (usually a water type).

Quagsire
This guy is simply one of the best physical walls right now, with it´s fantastic ability, unaware, is able to tank every single hit withouth taking in mind how many stat boosts the foe has. It´s moves have a near perfect coverage, hitting with SE damage most of the OU offensive threats.
Quag has just one weakness (grass type), so is very easy to teambuild and synergize with it.

Suicune
This pokémon is OP! Suicune is well known because of it´s amazing capacity of sweeping entire teams with ease while stalling everything in it´s way. It has amazing deffensive stats and a great typing, so teams built arround it usually have a lot of success.

Slowbro
This guy has good deffensive stats and is a great counter for most fighting types in the tier. It also can counter a wide variety of physical sweepers like Garchomp and Excadrill. Another plus it has is it´s ability, Regenerator, a great way to recover health.

STEP 2- A Special Wall.

Chansey
This Pink Blob is amazing, it´s able to tank every special hit (but Secret Sword/Psyshock) and sweep entire teams just spamming Seismic Toss. Eviolite gives Chansey higher deffenses that are very usefull when combined with it´s enormous HP stat and great support movepool.

Blissey
The evolution of our Pink Blob and also a great special tank. The only difference between them is that Blissey can carry Leftovers as a gradual recovery source and has a pasable special attack, but withouth Eviolite it becomes less bulky.

STEP 3- A Defogger.

Skarmory
This is the one that usually performs better in this place because of it´s amazing synergy with Quagsire and also because it forms a very solid core with Chansey/Blissey. It has great deffensive statistics and acces to Stealth Rock and Defog, so is very valuable for any stall team. It also has a reliable recovery move in the form of roost and counter to give back the damage it tanked and KO lots of threats.

Zapdos
This mon has a very usefull typing right now (can counter some flying types) and provides a valuable support to all your team with defog. It has a very good movepool, so you can use many different sets.

STEP 4- A Grass-(Poison) type.
Here you have to make yourself a big question: -Which mega are you going to use?- That will define what pokémon you should choose to fill this spot. (this pokémon are here to complete the deffensive synergy of the team and to wall some common threats like Keldeo)

Amoonguss
This is a really good pivot because of it´s ability Regenerator, which recovers 1/3 of Amoonguss´s health when switching out. Also it has acces to a 100% accurate move to make the foe sleep, access to Giga Drain and Foul Play (that turns Amoonguss in the only answer to special aegislash that this team has).

Venusaur - Mega
A great deffensive pokémon that can take down lots of threats because of it´s amazing stats and ability, while also having a pretty big movepool to use in many different roles. Use this pokémon if you won´t choose another mega.

Chesnaught
You can use this mon to also counter Bisharp and other dark types. It has a good movepool and fits in a lot of teams. You could try this one out if you went for slowbro in the "bulky water" sectíon to cover the bisharp weakness.

IMPORTANT THINGS TO CARE ABOUT WHEN TEAMBUILDING:
With the last two pokémon...
- Fix the Aegislash weakness.
- Find a way to avoid being swept by Wallbreakers.
- Counter other common pokémon that you have problems with.
- Find a way to beat other stall.

STEP 5- An Utility/Anti-Stall/Wallbreaker/Wall Pokémon.
Common Picks

You can use any pokémon you want in this spot (like a Heatran to complete a Fire-Water-Grass core or Gothitelle to trap).

Other things you could add

The pokémon above are wallbreakers/taunters/aegislash counters that could also be usefull.
All depends on how you want to play.

STEP 6- A Cleaner/Late Game Sweeper/Anti-Wallbreaker/Wall Pokémon.

The pokémon above are good late game sweepers, you can also use bulky versions of their sets.
You can also use any other pokémon from STEP 5, another wall if you want to play full stall or anything that you thing could fit the job you need.

Some good combos for the last two spots on your team:

Gothitelle can easily trap and kill the deffensive charizard counters, the stall team takes care of the offensive ones and you´ve got a clean and easy sweep.

@ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 Def / 252 HP / 4 SAtk
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk

I chose this pokémon because of it´s resistance and it also makes a good anti-stall job.

Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SDef / 4 Def
Sassy Nature
- Leech Seed
- Giga Drain

Counter Skarmory is so good! It can damage and kill lots of physical threats withouth dying thanks to sturdy and also be a great defogger/Stealth Rock setter.

Ability: Unaware
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Relaxed Nature

This is basically this:

step 1: look for a good stall team that's been posted here/is peaked high on the ladder
step 2: use it
step 3: ???
step 4: profit.

the example team you gave is literally the same as the teams you posted in the beginning lol.

Yeah, kind of, but that´s just an example... the idea is that players could build their own team using the guide.

No chesnaugh in the grass section?
No slowbro in the water section?

Hippowdon? Porygon 2? Zapdos?

Btw PM a mod to move this thread in general discussion ---> XY OU (so we can do a real discussion) before is gets locked

I´ll start working on adding them... the guide was not meant to explain all types of stall, just the pokémon that perform well with this structure.

You forget to mention blissey takes spec hits better then chansey
252 SpA Life Orb Sheer Force Landorus Focus Blast vs. 4 HP / 252 SpD Blissey: 260-307 (39.8 - 47%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

252 SpA Life Orb Sheer Force Landorus Focus Blast vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Eviolite Chansey: 260-307 (36.9 - 43.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

so after lefties u take less and skarm can phase with whirl wind may not be common but possible

I'm truly still meta, enjoy this acronym!

Why does Blissey not have max Defense? It should be 252 HP / 0 SpD. The actual calc is 252 SpA Life Orb Sheer Force Landorus Focus Blast vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Blissey: 312-369 (43.6 - 51.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery, meaning Blissey ends up taking more than Chansey even after Leftovers.
