Any Iron Chefs willing to take pity on me and go on Showdown for a challenge? Time is running short and there haven't been any Iron Chefs available for battle when I've been on for a while :(

Once again I found myself battling against Euphonos using a team with a similar premise to mine, and once again I was beaten down. This time, it was less to do with his Future Sight Reuniclus (though it did do work), and more to do with the savagery and sheer destructive power of Fletchinder. Also I let my Swampert die on turn one, which may have been a slight misplay. GG Euphonos.

3, 2, 1... TIME'S UP!

Voting and judging phase for this episode is now underway! Presenting to you the dishes of the participants!

presented by Chef newfren

Chef newfren started his team off with the most trusted Alomomola + Blissey core that takes on almost all wall breakers in the tier. With that core, he fears Pokemon from the likes of Crawdaunt that would break the core easily; thus, he brought Tangrowth holding without an item to absorb any damage brought, and to fulfill the Regenerator core along with Alomomola. Then, he added Sableye in the team to take on Reuniclus and Snorlax thanks to its typing and its Prankster-boosted Will-O-Wisp. From there, he needed something to take on another wall breaker in Tyrantrum, to block Volt Switch, and to set up Stealth Rock; as such, he introduced Mega Steelix for fulfilling such a role. Among all other possible options such as Haze Tentacruel, he ultimately welcomed Salamence as the team's hazard remover, a (shaky) Substitute + Calm Mind Chandelure check, and an answer to both Cobalion and Special Attacking Lucario variants.

presented by Chef malinowski

When Chef malinowski saw the secret ingredient for this episode, he immediately thought of Belly Drum + Trick Room Slowking; however, he had extreme difficulty in supporting such a sweep until he found inspiration from Iron Chef Euphonos's old "An Apocalyptic Alleluia" RMT article. From there, he used three status-inflicting Pokemon in hopes of fulfilling a sweep: Mega Aggron with Thunder Wave which allows Mienshao to outpace key threats, Sableye with both Will-O-Wisp and Snarl to weaken the opposition from both sides of the spectrum, and Roserade with Sleep Powder to decapitate a Pokemon which allows the team some free turns. The team concluded with Salamence as the cleaner of the team once the whole opposition is weakened enough.

presented by Chef Jetstertsyko

The inspiration behind Chef Jetstertsyko's team is the lack of Speed Reuniclus and Tangrowth misses out on outrunning key threats, which he attempts to take advantage of their slow Speed through Trick Room from both Reuniclus and Porygon2. After Trick Room turns are up and some of the key threats are eliminated thanks to the core, Calm Mind Florges and offensive Crobat does the finishing touches. Finally, he added Shuckle in the team because of the titanic bulk that no strong hit can knock out the Mold Pokemon, and has the capability of running Stealth Rock and of taking away a valuable ability thanks to Gastro Acid.

presented by Chef Incognito Style

When the secret ingredient was revealed, Slowking immediately sprung to Chef Incognito Style's mind in which he wanted it to be a win condition for the team. Instead of going for the conventional stall route, he oriented his team around Trick Room which Slowking can take advantage of thanks to its slow Speed. He then added Reuniclus as another Trick Room user and another half of the Regenerator duo. Dragalge served his team as another win condition that can tremendously break walls and absorb Toxic Spikes upon entry. Machamp was then added to cover the Physical spectrum and to take care of Snorlax that could pose a threat to the team. Mandibuzz was added to remove hazards that could hinder the team, notably the Regenerator duo, to recover any damage off, only to be smacked by hazards. Finally, when Trick Room turns aren't enough to pull off a sweep, he finally used Bronzong to set up more turns of Trick Room and to set up Stealth Rock.

presented by Chef MetaTres

Chef MetaTres's team is built around Future Sight Reuniclus with Life Orb, and its premise is to get off Future Sights as often as possible, then either stall a turn with Protect or Recover, or switch into Mienshao, Mega Beedrill, or Nidoking to punish Steel- and Dark-types trying to absorb damage from Future Sight. He then added Swampert in the team to shuffle the opposition with Roar, in hopes of getting the right Pokemon to be hit by Future Sight. Finally, a special wall was added in Togetic, in addition of its role of beating Dark-types, of removing hazards, and of testing his luck through Tri Attack's boosted chances of inflicting status.

presented by Chef camo pumpkin

Chef camo pumpkin went for a very conventional stall route because of how Regenerator works in that play style. He started off with the most trusted Blissey and Alomomola defensive core as it withstands any damage brought by any wall breaker possible from both spectra. He then added Mega Steelix as his most obvious choice for taking care of opposing Pokemon who like to keep momentum going on their favor. Sableye's traits such as Prankster-boosted Will-O-Wisp and Taunt made it a welcoming force in the team to take care of Crawdaunt and other Stall archetypes. Salamence's abillity to clear hazards through Defog and to soften Physical attackers with Intimidate makes it a welcoming addition to the team. Finally, as one of the fulfillment of the Regenerator quota, Amoonguss was added to the team to take care of Suicune (thanks to Flash) and Mega Sceptile.

presented by Chef BrandonBeast

Chef BrandonBeast decided to make an offensive Trick Room team featuring Slowking and Tangrowth, the Regenerator core he selected as both are proficient attackers under Trick Room. He added both Rhyperior and Emboar to switch into Fire and Flying attacks for the former and to check Grass-types on the latter; both of them serving as brutal wall breakers under Trick Room. Gardevoir and Diancie were finally added into the team as both can set up Trick Room, with the latter's added bonus of setting up Stealth Rock.

presented by Chef GreasyXSpoon

Chef GreasyXSpoon's team was focused towards a style of play which involved longevity--staying alive long enough to outlive the opposition while at the same time smashing them with strong attacks. He decided to make this team oriented to Trick Room, as it provided the ability to stop teams involving in Speed and letting slower Pokemon to take over in offense. He used Reuniclus, Mega Audino, and Porygon2 as the Trick Room setters, with Tangrowth being the other half of the Regenerator core with Reuniclus and an offensive force that covers the Special spectrum. Finally, to take care of the physical spectrum, Escavalier and Rhyperior were added.

presented by Chef Manipulative

Chef Manipulative, after seeing the secret ingredient, immediately brought up Assault Vest Reuniclus with Future Sight to the team. Then, he incorporated the concept to Volt Switch + U-turn as the pressure exerted from these moves would be of great help along with Reuniclus's Future Sight. From there, he selected Mienshao, Mega Beedrill, and Heliolisk, being the bearers of Volt Switch + U-turn, with the former's added Regenerator bonus. Finally, the last two slots were devoted to Pokemon who can compress roles very well, which ended up in Diancie and Gligar. Diancie offered the team a check to Fire and Dragon attacks, a Stealth rock setter, and a cleric with Heal Bell. Gligar, on the other hand, offered the team an immunity to Volt Switch + U-turn combo, a hazard remover through Defog, a check to multiple threats such as Cobalion, Toxicroak, and Mega Beedrill, and another contributor of VoltTurn.

You want to see their teams in action?
They're here!

You may now vote for the most favorite team in terms of the three categories: Creativity, Use of Ingredient, and Effectiveness. You can also vote for one team in different categories. Here's the template on how to vote:

Creativity: Euphonos - I mean, its Euphonos.
Use of Theme: Euphonos - Didn't even need to use the theme, and still makes a mono-water squad that really utilizes the theme.
Effectiveness: Euphonos - I don't think Euphonos ever actually uses teams that aren't effective.
The community has until
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 19, 8 AM EST
to cast your vote on this thread who are
the most awe-inspiring,
the most essential,
and
the best-tasting
dishes ever witnessed this round!

Allez, cuisine!

Great, now I'm going to get quoted every time the voting phase starts.

Creativity: Chef malinowski - While most people went with Stall, Trick Room, or the Future Lord, Chef malinowski took it upon themselves to bring a powerhouse no one would ever expect: Belly Drum Slowking. While not being the easiest thing to set up, it still shows a great amount of flair to a them I thought would be filled with nothing but stall.
Use of Theme: Chef GreasyXSpoon - I mean.. he used one more Regen mon than everyone else(even if it loses it post-mega) I guess...
Effectiveness: Abstain -
In all honestly, the most effective team in a theme like this would probably be the stall team, and considering the two stall teams in this round made up a record of 2-1(50% of the wins this round), it stands to reason. Unfortunately, there's two of the exact same team(barring their Regenerator Grass-type), making it really hard for me to vote for either one.

Can we just get back to the fun rounds now...

Creativity: sorry not voting in this one bc frankly its really hard to be innovative with such a theme and I don't think anyone got there ):

Use of Theme: GreasyXSpoon even tho Audino loses regenerator after mega evolving, I really liked his approach and as such he gets my vote

Effectiveness: Manipulative. while stall is really the most effective build with regenerator in mind, I really enjoyed this Volt Turn, keeping momentum and having plenty of opportunities for threats like AV Reuni God and LO Mienshao to get in.

this theme was so hard ;d

While yeah it looks like we have the same team the difference in a few of the sets - notably the mence set and the fact that his grass type is a spdef amoongus- means that he's a bit weaker than I am to sd crawdaunt (just need sr and like a tiny it of chip on mence) and a lot weaker to subcm chandy (it might just... win?).

Although saying that, havig a grounded poison type for him means tspikes aren't as hard to deal with, plus the extra bulk on his mence means he has a sturdier fighting spam matchup.

There are definitely differences between our teams and I'd hate to see either of us lose points in effectiveness just because we built teams that are similar to each other.

Creativity: BandonBeast - The team features some really cool sets like TR 3 attacks Slowking, Earth Power Diancie, and TR Gardevoir. It's also great to see someone using Emboar.
Use of Theme: hilarious newfren - The team uses Regen mons to help keep everything healthy.
Effectiveness: GreasyXSpoon - It's a Trick Room team with surprisingly good defensive synergy. Unfortunately GreasyXSpoon failed to do the team justice with a massive choke against Chef xShiba (switching out against Florges with a banded Escavalier locked into Iron Head!), but the team should be able to put in work if played well.

Announcing the Special Awardees for this episode!

Most Awe-Inspiring Dish: malinowski
Most Essential Dish: GreasyXSpoon
Best-Tasting Dish: Manipulative (Chairman's Choice) - He definitely broke the boundaries of how a Regenerator-related team should be built (especially that Regenerator cores definitely work on Stall teams) by incorporating a splash of VoltTurn into the dish, which is a lot better than the stall teams from the likes of Chefs newfren and camo pumpkin; while they are insanely effective, they lack a bit of oomph that would stand out among each other.

There goes the awardees for this episode. Who do you think will be the overall winner for this episode of Iron Chef? We'll find out as the results will be released later at ~11:00 AM EST.

Apologies for keeping the suspense for long, and tonight I announce the winner of the ninth episode of Iron Chef. He is no other than...

Chef Manipulative!

Chef Manipulative has brought a team that smashed the boundaries of incorporating Regenerator Pokemon to a team, as he adds a splash of VoltTurn that gave a modern twist to the traditional Stall-oriented teams. As such, he won the hearts of the Iron Chefs and declared him as the Overall Winner for the second time since the very first episode!
. . . . . . .

Here are the scores and the consolidated comments from our beloved Iron Chefs!

Manipulative: 16 + 2 = 18
CREATIVITY: 3 / 5
This is one team where standard sets are again expected as knowing you from the previous episodes, but you managed to get out of the box and use Swords Dance Mienshao. While the rest of the team is standard fare (except for Assault Vest Reuniclus which is still uncommon), a decent score is given in this criterion.

USE OF INGREDIENT: 5 / 5
This is the team where you broke the boundary of building a decent Regenerator-related team, provided Regenerator cores are leaned towards Stall. You provided a fresh twist to the Regenerator cores by splashing VoltTurn into the team, and you managed to pull them off very well (which will also be reflective to the Effectiveness criterion as well!).

EFFECTIVENESS: 8 / 10
The team is very solid, but upon further examination lies one glaring flaw: your team doesn't have a prompt answer against Offensive Water Pokemon (such as Dragon Dance Gyarados and Rain Dance Mega Swampert). The defensive core of Diancie + Gligar made it extremely weak to those things; the only way that it could do is to exert pressure to prevent from setting up, which, knowing you, you could pull it off (or, you could use Choice Scarf on Heliolisk because it will outrun every offensive Water Pokemon, at the expense of power, though). This team is definitely worth a contender in the Overall Winner position, and you deserve it. Well done!

GreasyXSpoon: 15 + 2 - 1 = 16
CREATIVITY: 4 / 5
Your team have so many interesting options here: with Colbur Berry Reuniclus with Energy Ball, Mega Audino with Trick Room, and Rhyperior with Megahorn. Coupled with Trick Room, this warrants a considerably good score in this criterion.

USE OF INGREDIENT: 4 / 5
Among all the Trick Room teams submitted in this episode, this team warrants a much better score in this criterion because while you attempt to deal more damage to the opposition, you still manage to focus more on the longevity of the team.

EFFECTIVENESS: 7 / 10
This team is quite effective in a way that your team has a lot of opportunities to set up Trick Room, despite your loss to Iron Chef Shiba. Among all the Trick Room teams submitted this episode, this is one team that is not totally bodied by Alakazam even outside of Trick Room, which granted you some bonus points for it. However, upon further examination, is seems that a strong Pokemon with Flare Blitz would be a huge nuisance to the team (as Rhyperior is the only one to sponge a Fire attack), and an offensive Gyarados with Bounce could wreck it apart. Otherwise, it's still a solid team--very frightening enough that can set up many opportunities for Trick Room that way.

Incognito Style: 14 + 2 = 16
CREATIVITY: 3.5 / 5
At first glance, it seemed that this team contains too many standard sets until upon further examination, where you actually wanted to use Dragalge with Thunderbolt, Choice Band Machamp with Fire Punch, and Future Sight Bronzong. Coupled with the orientation as a Trick Room bulky offense team, this warrants a fairly decent score in this criterion.

USE OF INGREDIENT: 3.5 / 5
This team has a very cool concept, and you managed to incorporate those underrated Pokemon like Slowking, Machamp, and Dragalge in Trick Room. As much as Trick Room is given much attention, the slow Regenerator duo isn't given much importance to this team.

EFFECTIVENESS: 7 / 10
The team seemed to be solid in a way that it provided sheer power to plow through numerous teams of various play styles. However, as slow as your team is, it would be hard-pressed to work outside of Trick Room. Your team has three Psychic-types to set up Trick Room; as such, it's way too prone from Knock Off or any strong Ghost attack (Chandelure). Otherwise, it is a very solid team and the direction for the team is very sensible, worth a decent score in this criterion.

camo pumpkin: 13.5 + 2 = 15.5
CREATIVITY: 1.5 / 5
This is a very typical Stall build: coincidentally a less-than-identical copy of a well-known team with Flash Amoonguss over Tangrowth. A minimal score is given in this criterion.

USE OF INGREDIENT: 4 / 5
While it doesn't have the identical sets Chef newfren built, the Regenerator core has been incorporated very well. What holds it back from garnering a perfect score in this criterion is the lack of freshness; provided that Regenerator cores definitely work on Stall teams, you incorporated a very typical Regenerator core which will lose its freshness overtime.

EFFECTIVENESS: 8 / 10
Another undoubtedly insanely effective team, but this opens up to a bigger threat: Substitute + Calm Mind Chandelure (and to an extent, Substitute + Swords Dance Cobalion as exploited by Iron Chef Euphonos). While you have Alomomola to use Knock Off against Chandelure, a boosted Shadow Ball would be a pain which forces you to heal itself with Regenerator, allowing Chandelure to boost more with Calm Mind. Still an insanely effective team, nonetheless.

newfren: 13.5 + 2 - 1 = 14.5
CREATIVITY: 1 / 5
At first glance, it is a very typical stall build; it is coincidentally an exact copy of a very well-known team with a few modifications, hence a minimal score will be given in this criterion.

USE OF INGREDIENT: 4.5 / 5
What makes this team stand out is how you incorporate a lot of healing factors aside from the dual Regenerator duo that you have, most especially that your Blissey and Alomomola both have Wish to keep the entire team healthy. What holds it back from garnering a perfect score in this criterion is the lack of freshness; provided that Regenerator cores definitely work on Stall teams, you incorporated a very typical Regenerator core which will lose its freshness overtime.

EFFECTIVENESS: 8 / 10
Without any doubts, this team is insanely effective at what it does. However, your team needs to tread carefully against Special Attackers along with some pressure to deal with Blissey; as exploited by Iron Chef Euphonos during the match, the Blissey got severely weakened which gave the opposing team a huge opportunity to punch holes to the rest of the team, most especially Hydreigon and Chandelure. Otherwise, undoubtedly a very solid Stall team to use for starters.

BrandonBeast: 13 - 2 = 11
CREATIVITY: 3.5 / 5
It's nice to see an Emboar and Rhyperior, two of the most underrated Pokemon in UU, in action. Plus, with a decreased Speed IV on Gardevoir, this team warrant a considerably good score in this criterion.

USE OF INGREDIENT: 3 / 5
While this team focuses more on dealing damage to the opposition under Trick Room, it seemed that you unfortunately didn't give much importance to the secret ingredient.

EFFECTIVENESS: 6 / 10
The team concept is very cool and all that jazz, but this team would be hard-pressed to keep the offensive pressure to the opposition when the Trick Room turns are out. Also, with your team make-up, it would struggle to deal much damage to some of the defensive cores in this metagame. Nonetheless, it still is a valiant effort on your part to bring up such an offensive Trick Room team.

malinowski: 12 - 1 = 11
CREATIVITY: 3.5 / 5
What makes this team stand out among all teams in terms of creativity is how you immediately brought up a unique Belly Drum Slowking set into mind. Along with a few nice touches of Fire Blast MoxieMence and Snarl Sableye, this team warrants a decently average score in this criterion.

USE OF INGREDIENT: 3 / 5
You managed to incorporate Slowking's Regenerator to keep on setting up Belly Drums all day, which is a nice thing to have. Otherwise, nothing shattered the ground on a certain degree, hence a decent rating for this criterion.

EFFECTIVENESS: 5.5 / 10
Unfortunately, this team wasn't exactly as effective as how Iron Chef Euphonos's "An Apocalyptic Alleluia" seemed to be (and yes, that has been retired for a reason). Trick Room + Belly Drum Slowking required two turns of setup which deems way too much for a metagame as fast as this current one, and it's extremely difficult for Slowking to take hits at that time, which I require you to run Dual Screens here. With all due respect, it seemed like Trick Room + Belly Drum Slowking actually ruined the actual direction of the team--the balanced presence of the rest of the teammates are there (and that's the reason why Iron Chef Euphonos preferred to use Marill over Slowking for that matter). However, it is truly a valiant effort on your part that you built a team around a set that is extremely difficult to pull off.

MetaTres: 12.5 - 2 = 10.5
CREATIVITY: 3.5 / 5
A distinctively unique Life Orb Reuniclus set, a very uncommon purely Physical Nidoking, and the rare Togetic warrant a considerably good score in this criterion.

USE OF INGREDIENT: 3 / 5
While you gave Future Sight Reuniclus more attention in this team, it seemed that you coupled it with Mienshao for its fulfillment of the Regenerator quota, thus not giving this secret ingredient more importance.

EFFECTIVENESS: 6 / 10
This team is distinctively unique, not going to lie about it. While you are trying to incorporate some switch initiatives to the team, there are some Pokemon who are deemed dead weight to the team (that is, something that would kill any possible momentum), which would be difficult to regain your momentum once the opponents makes its own wave of momentum. While the direction of the team is quite a clarity, the cohesion of the Pokemon as a team is quite lacking, and that's what you need to improve in the next episodes of Iron Chef.

Jetstertsyko: 11 - 3 = 8
CREATIVITY: 3.5 / 5
Gastro Acid on Shuckle and Poison Fang on Crobat are some nice creative touches you have on this team; while the rest of the team is of standard fare, at least this team warrants a considerably decent score in this criterion.

USE OF INGREDIENT: 3.5 / 5
You managed to take advantage of Reuniclus's and Tangrowth's sheer power, lack of Speed, and their Regenerator abilities to make use of Trick Room. What you intend to do with this team is quite clear enough to warrant a decent score in this criterion as well.

EFFECTIVENESS: 4 / 10
While this is considerably a better build than the previous episode, this team's effectiveness is not enough to win over three Iron Chefs. The team lacks some key resists that would be a huge downfall; Toxic Spikes is one of them (especially Iron Chefs Hogg and Euphonos took advantage of the lack of a grounded Poison-type and gradually wearing the team down with Poison upon entry). Actually, there are some signs of direction in this team; just keep working on that direction, and you'll eventually build a team that suits you best.

. . . . . . .

In a few moments, the new secret ingredient for the next episode of Iron Chef will be up! Stay tuned!

The secret ingredient for this episode is...

#FLASHBACKFEBRUARY: EVERY DAY I'M SHUFFLING!

It's time to show off your shuffle! How well can you shuffle around the opposing team, and how can you take advantage of that shuffle?

This is another secret ingredient selected by Chairman Hogg, this time, during the sixth episode of last season. For this episode of Iron Chef, participants are required to have at least two Pokemon that are capable of forcing an opponent to switch out through Roar, Whirlwind, Dragon Tail, Circle Throw, Yawn, or Perish Song. For this episode, a Pokemon carrying Red Card doesn't count for its qualification for consistency purposes.

So who has the best moves for this episode of Iron Chef? Will any of our contestants have a shuffle that the Iron Chefs just can't keep up with, or will our Iron Chefs prove as adept on the dance floor as they are on the kitchen?

You have until
THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 25, 9 AM EST
to complete your dishes to be sent to the Chairman via PM.

As this is the team building phase, feel free to discuss whether the secret ingredient still rocks in the tier after several Pokemon dropped in this tier. Fire them away!

Allez, cuisine!
