PROLOGUE
Long ago, a man's fantasy became a reality in a form never seen before: Kitchen Coliseum, a giant arena where chefs can cook up new original Pokemon teams and see them tested. The motivation for spending his fortune to create Kitchen Coliseum was to encounter new original teams which could be called true artistic creations.

To realize his dream, he secretly started choosing the top chefs of various styles of battling, and he named his men the Iron Chefs. These Iron Chefs possess invincible culinary skills, and they are:

Kitchen Coliseum is the arena where Iron Chefs await the challenges of master chefs from around the world. Challengers must build around the theme ingredient of the round. Using all their senses, skill and creativity, they are to prepare artistic teams never tasted before.

Every battle, reputations are on the line in Kitchen Coliseum, where master chefs pit their artistic creations against each other. What inspiration does this round's challenger bring? And how will the Iron Chef fight back?
The heat will be on!

INTRODUCTION
Hello, everyone! Chairman Euphonos here, and welcome to the third installment of Iron Chef Smogon in the Underused Subforum, its first ever in its Sun and Moon series! This project allows the contestants to showcase their creative team building skills and to put their masterful creations to the test against some of the UU's top battlers and team builders. Each round I will pick a theme to build around, and contestants will do their best to come up with an original, effective team around that theme.

The mechanics of the project will be shown below, so please take time to read everything.
. . . . . . .

MECHANICS

There are four phases every episode: the first phase being Team Building which will last for three days, the second phase being Challenging Iron Chefs which will last for two days; the third phase being Judging and Voting, which will last for (less than) two days; the final phase being the Awarding of Winners that will devote a tiny portion of the current round in preparation for the next round.

PHASE 1: TEAM BUILDING
  • At the beginning of each round, a secret ingredient will be revealed. Contestants have until a certain time (posted in the secret ingredients post) to build around this secret ingredient, which may be a core, a team concept, or a theme. The team must be submitted to the Chairman through the Smogon Forums PM.
    • The Chairman will notify through the reply whether the team has been approved or there are missing elements that need adding.
    • Any article submitted elsewhere other than the Smogon Forums PM will not be accepted.
  • Teams should be submitted in a standardized format. It should include the importable of your team followed by a brief description of how the team works.
  • Within this period, no Iron Chef battle should be taking place.
  • Once the team has been submitted, participants are not allowed to withdraw.

Here is a sample team format that you must submit in order to be eligible for challenging the Iron Chefs:

Cloyster @ Focus Sash
Ability: Skill Link
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Shell Smash
- Icicle Spear
- Rock Blast
- Explosion

Ampharos @ Ampharosite
Ability: Static
EVs: 128 HP / 252 SpA / 128 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Volt Switch
- Discharge
- Dragon Pulse
- Heal Bell

Whimsicott @ Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 240 HP / 216 Def / 52 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Encore
- Stun Spore
- Moonblast
- U-turn

Bronzong @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Stealth Rock
- Gyro Ball
- Earthquake
- Hypnosis

Chandelure @ Choice Specs
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Overheat
- Shadow Ball
- Energy Ball
- Memento

Linoone @ Salac Berry
Ability: Gluttony
EVs: 92 HP / 252 Atk / 164 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Belly Drum
- Extreme Speed
- Shadow Claw
- Seed Bomb

Although I can't go on full kamikaze, this team brings overwhelming force in the beginning through the help of leading Cloyster early in the game (most of the time; some Steel-types are such a big bitch to handle with; might as well use Hydro Pump over Rock Blast on Cloyster). There are two Pokemon that will serve as momentum grabbers in the form of Mega Ampharos (with Volt Switch) and Whimsicott (with U-turn), and they coincidentally serve as the paralyzers of the team given Discharge and Stun Spore, respectively. Bronzong serves as the sole Hazard setter of the team, as Stealth Rock is more than enough to get damage upon entry (and Hypnosis is confirmed good). Chandelure is the greatest Special Attacker in the team; equipping it with Choice Specs makes it all the more deadly. To put it into perspective, Chandelure's Choice Specs-boosted Overheat overwhelms those even who resist it. It is also one of my reasons for building a team with because of Memento, granting a set-up sweeper a golden opportunity to set up, and that set-up sweeper I choose is no other than Linoone. Linoone is the only non-Uber Pokemon that has STAB on Extreme Speed, and Belly Drum is the only move to boost its not-so-impressive Attack to stellar levels. When Steel-types are eliminated through Chandelure's massive attacks, Linoone is ready to sweep with it.

There are some issues with this team, especially the lack of a Spinner. Of course, it is a "bulky" offense team of sorts, but it has issues with Entry Hazards alone, most especially Toxic Spikes, and that alone would shorten Linoone's glorious sweep.
Note that this is not an RMT article, so don't feel like you need to devote several lines of description for each Pokemon, but it is your responsibility to ensure that judges understand how your team functions. However, the Chairman is strictly enforcing the rule of having a brief description of the team in order to make the judging procedure a lot easier. As such, here are the guide questions for a meaningful description of your team (contestants may not opt to follow them):
  • What comes to your mind when the secret ingredient is revealed?
  • What is your thought process upon building your team?
  • Were there any prevalent issues upon building your team?
The Chairman will notify you whether the submission is eligible for challenging Iron Chefs; if not, you must comply to the changes the Chairman has given - non-compliance within the allotted time will forfeit your entry to the second phase.

IMPORTANT: Slashing items, moves, and other elements is not allowed. Whatever you sent to the Chairman must be the team you will be using in challenging the Iron Chefs.

PHASE 2: CHALLENGING THE IRON CHEFS
  • Only the participants who have their teams approved are eligible to face any of the Iron Chefs available.
    • The Iron Chefs are NOT required to use the theme ingredient. Instead, they will push your team to its breaking point.
    • The Iron Chefs know the secret ingredient as well; better give them the surprise of their lives!
  • Battles must be played using the team that was sent to the Chairman. Any discrepancies between teams may result in disqualification.
  • All win/loss posts in the thread must be provided with replays to make the judging process more meaningful.
  • Contestants may issue a challenge to more than one Iron Chefs, but they may do so only once.

PHASE 3: JUDGING AND VOTING
  • Once all battles are completed, the Chairman will reveal all of the teams, along with their battle replays.
  • Regardless of the outcome of the Iron Chef match(es), all teams sent to the Chairman are subject to evaluations and criticisms from the most esteemed Panel of Judges, and to voting from Iron Chefs, co-participants and third parties.
    • If contestants have sent the dish to the Chairman but didn't manage to issue a challenge on any of the Iron Chefs, their dish will not be presented.
    • Conversely, if contestants completed battles with the Iron Chefs but didn't manage to send the dish (note: with brief descriptions required; guide questions found above) to the Chairman, their dish will not be presented.
CRITERIA FOR SCORING
A contestant's dish will be tabulated according to the following criteria:
  • JUDGE EVALUATIONS (60%) - This is based on the scores given by the panel of judges.
The Panel of Judges will use the system from the previous installments in evaluating contestants' dishes. The system is based on three separate categories in Creativity, Essence/Elevation, and Effectiveness.

CREATIVITY (0-5 POINTS): Is your finished dish a delight never before tasted by our judges, or is it the same standard fare? Your goal is not to merely reheat an existing team, but to break boundaries and challenge standards. A team that was copied from an RMT or tournament with a few minor changes should score poorly here, while a team full of new ideas could bring home as many as five points.

ESSENCE / ELEVATION (0-5 POINTS): How well does your team use this round's theme? Is it merely tacked on to satisfy the tournament's requirements, or is it a fundamental part of how the team works? A team that barely uses the round's theme could end up with nothing here, while a team that not only uses the theme but redefines might win it all.

EFFECTIVENESS (0-10 POINTS): And now we're down to the real meat of the dish. How good is the team? This category is worth twice as much as the other two, because in the end, it doesn't matter how original your dish is - if it doesn't taste good, then people won't eat it. A team that will struggle to succeed in the current metagame, even against mediocre teams, might receive a zero here. On the other hand, show the judges how great your team is, and you could take home a full ten points.
The Panel of Judges will determine the final scores through the conformity method where they either agree or disagree with the initial rates until a certain point is given.

  • COMMUNITY VOTING (30%) - The Underused Community, including the Iron Chefs, are asked to pick two of the best teams in terms of the three aforementioned categories.
The top pick for each category will receive 5 points; the second top pick will receive 3 points; the rest of the dishes will receive 1 point each. The final score for the community voting will be tabulated according to the following categories:
  • CREATIVITY - 25%
  • ESSENCE / ELEVATION - 25%
  • EFFECTIVENESS - 50%
The voting template will be given once Phase 2 is over.

  • BATTLE RECORDS (10%) - Wins and losses recorded by the contestants during a certain round will be tabulated in this criterion.

PHASE 4: AWARDING OF WINNERS
  • At the end of the round, all winners, along with their dishes, will be entered into our fabled Hall of Fame. These hallowed halls will show the best of the best, and be preserved for future rounds.
    • Aside from awarding the OVERALL WINNER of each round, there will three special awards that will be placed in the Hall of Fame as well. They are as follows:
      • THE MOST ORIGINAL DISH: This award is given to the participant with the most number of votes in the Creativity category. People who have voted for that participant have witnessed how he/she made use of unorthodox selections that made significant work to the team.
      • THE MOST ESSENTIAL DISH: This award is given to the participant with the most number of votes in the Essence / Elevation category. People who have voted for that participant have seen how he/she strongly incorporated secret ingredients to the strength of the rest of the team.
      • THE BEST-TASTING DISH: This award is given to the participant with the most number of votes in the Effectiveness category. People who have voted for that participant have seen how he/she plays it to his/her strengths, and how he/she overcomes any disadvantages in match-ups.
  • A participant who has garnered the highest average score and who has played at least three of the five cycles (1-5 and 6-10) will be given an offer from the Chairman himself. This offer will depend on the situation of the current Staff (Iron Chef / Panel of Judges).

TODAY'S SECRET INGREDIENT
EPISODE 9, PHASE 1

While this special guest I have right now isn't really as familiar as the rest of the special guests I have chosen for this season of Iron Chef, this director is worth mentioning due to the title apt for the secret ingredient for this final episode! Please welcome...

MICHAEL WITMAN!
Michael D. Witman is an American director, producer, and photographer. Fueled by his father's career as a photographer, Witman's interest in the photographic medium sparked his curiousity about the enchanting world of film. From the early age of eight, he voiced to his mother his interest in being a stunt man. However soon after, as he began to grow, Witman realized the dangers in that choice and, to his mother's rejoices, decided against that particular career path. Still his interest in the film industry continued to persist throughout his young years.

Since college, Witman has moved to the west coast and currently resides in the Los Angeles area working in the film industry. He began working as a set production assistant and got the opportunity to be part of several larger features including Live Free or Die Hard and Eagle Eye. From his work as a PA, Witman quickly began working as an assistant director in the world of independent film. After racking up a resume of over 25 features and shorts, he took an opportunity to work in television as both a set and office production assistant, including on the hit show, Modern Family.

While working in the film industry, he continued to pursue his photography mainly as an art form. Keeping true to his sense of realism in photography, Witman refrains from lots of digital manipulation in his final products. He shoots to capture the best image at the time of image creation, rather than covering rushed work with slick post processing. He also often works in graphic design incorporating his photography, to create posters and other artwork.

One of his films is chosen to be the secret ingredient for this episode, and now feel free to raise the dome!

A MATTER OF CHOICE!

"Destiny is no matter of chance. It is a matter of choice.
It is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved."

- William Jennings Bryan

Very loosely based off Aesop's fable "The Old Man and Death," A Matter of Choice is a film about the decisions that we make that affect our life. Adam is a man with nothing left but his faithful dog, Gritz. Down on his luck, Adam is now faced with the most important choice of his life.

From the title of the (rather independent) film itself, this episode features one of the most common items to be used in any metagame possible -- Choice items. Therefore, participants must build a team featuring at least three Pokemon wearing a Choice item. Will the participants make good use of these Choice items?

Participants have until
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 17, 9 AM GMT -4
to complete your dishes to be sent to the Panel of Judges (pokemon sparrow, eht, and esche) via PM.

Allez, cuisine!

PANEL OF JUDGES

Our first judge is known to be the most competitive among the three, being one of the most consistent ladder fixtures in the Underused community; please welcome pokemon sparrow!

Judge pokemon sparrow

While being a long time lurker since the Diamond/Pearl/Platinum era, he makes his first appearance on Smogon midway in 2016 when he first posted an offensive Hail team that brought huge waves of success in the ladder. Through his frequent and helpful presence in the Underused Room, he became one of the most respected UU Room Staff in the community, with its recent promotion to the Room Moderator status. He is also a known contributor to various projects such as Creative/Underrated Movesets, Community Create-A-Team, Sample Teams, and Team Building Workshop.
. . . . . . .

Our second judge is known to be one of the most active and one of the friendliest contributors people would look up to; please welcome eht!

Judge eht

While started playing Pokemon Showdown! in 2014, eht started contributing to the Underused community late in 2016 when the Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire generation was drawing to a conclusion, transitioning to the Sun/Moon era. Her notable contributions to the Underused Forums include spearheading the SM UU Viability Rankings resource project, co-hosting the SM UU Research Week, and writing a number of on-site analyses in the Contributions and Corrections subforum. From there she became one of the most active and one of the friendliest moderators in the Underused Room in Pokemon Showdown.
. . . . . . .

Our third judge is one of this season's active participants who managed to pull off wins that intrigued the Chairman and consequently being offered a position in the UU Iron Chef project which he gladly accepted. Please welcome esche!

<image to be released in the next Iron Chef spin-off project>
Judge esche
While beginning his interests in competitive Pokemon in early 2015, Lord Esche started participating in the Underused community late in 2016 as he joined in numerous projects and tournaments in the said subforum. Although he eventually became part of the Rarely-Used community, reflective in his win in the most recent installment of the Rarely-Used Premier League under manager col49 and The Hoodrich Hoopas and in his participation in the Smogon Snake Draft under Lake of Rage Leviathans, he is itching to get some spotlight in the Underused Subforum by eventually earning a position in the UU Iron Chef as one of the highly esteemed Panel of Judges.
. . . . . . .

And last, but not the least, this judge is best known for using his team building eccentricities to catch opponents off guard and to boggle the minds of the spectators -- he even uses Pokemon such as Linoone, Regigigas, and Marill, among others, in official tournaments such as the Smogon Grand Slam's UU Open and RU Open. This judge is no other than the Iron Chef Underused Chairman himself, Euphonos!

Chairman and Judge Euphonos

While being part of the Smogon community since 2010, Euphonos made his first appearance in the Underused community in early 2015 where he started participating in XY UU's Research Week. Since then, he became one of the active participants in the first season of UU Iron Chef hosted by Chairman Hogg. Euphonos's stellar performance in the project made him become one of the most seasoned Iron Chefs; his dedication to the project made him become the Chairman in the second and third seasons of UU Iron Chef. From there he became one of the most respected contributors to the Underused Community. He became one of the winners in the third season of Underused Premier League under the leadership of Kink, with his most memorable match being the match against BOUFF whom he defeated in a dominating fashion in Week 6. He also made successful RMT articles for ORAS UU teams, one featuring Marill, another being his longest standing UU team featuring Shedinja, and a final team featuring Fletchinder before the start of the Sun/Moon era.

THE HALL OF FAME - OVERALL WINNERS
Disclaimer: All team submissions will be shown in its raw form. If the Chairman has some time to spare, he will make edits to the descriptions whenever possible.

EPISODE 1: FOUR SENSES
Overall Winner: Lord Esche || Team Status: OUTDATED (Jirachi banned)
Teams must contain at least one attack with at most 80% accuracy on at least three Pokemon.

This team features some sets that have fallen under the radar as of late, while also, of course, fulfilling the requirement for the episode. The four inaccurate moves equal to or below an accuracy of 80% are Stone Edge on Mega Aerodactyl, Thunder on Jirachi, Hydro Pump on Tentacruel, and another Stone Edge on Infernape. Hone Claws Mega Aerodactyl, or moreso Mega Aerodactyl in general, has been somewhat neglected by the UU playerbase as of late, due to new Mega evolutions becoming available after the latest tier shift. However, once the current suspect ends and the new toy syndrom settles down a bit, I am confident that Mega Aerodactyl will reclaim its title as the best Mega in UU. Double STAB + EQ gives Mega Aerodactyl strong neutral or super effectve coverage on pretty much everything in the tier, while Hone Claws allows it to overwhelm checks like Rotom-W or Cobalion. It is therefore paired with CM Electrium-Z Jirachi, which, sporting a good amount of surprise factor with Z-Thunder and HP Fire, targets to remove some of the bulkier Water types like Suicune and Alomomola as well as Scizor for Mega Aerodactyl. The set-up core is backed up by an offensive hazard core, consisting of Tentacruel and Mamoswine, and two Choice users, Specs Hydreigon and Scarf Infernape. Starting with the latter, Scarf Infernape has seen a convincing amount of usage ever since Jirachi graced the tier with its Z-Happy Hour set, being able to avenge its flinched-to-death and coverage-strucken team mates after some prior damage, while also acting as a check to Scizor and Weavile. Specs Hydreigon on the other hand is supposed to soften up steel types like Mega Aggron for the set-up core. Next to its raw power, Specs Hydreigon offers a bunch of useful resistances as well as an additional Ground immunity, which an offensive build like this team can only appreciate. The remaining two members round out the team by supporting it with Rapid Spin and Stealth Rock, as well as offering some additional surprise in the case of Tentacruel: Fast Offensive Tentacruel, or the Core Shredder as it's called, aims to throw off the opponent by outspeeding and severely damaging commonly faster 'mons such as Mamoswine, Gliscor, Nidoking, Krookodile and even Hydreigon with the use of Hydro Pump and Dazzling Gleam. Most of the aforementioned Pokémon Jirachi has trouble to OHKO, even at +1 SpAtk, which is where the idea for utilizing this set on this team comes from. Sludge Bomb is necessary in order to check Fairies better since the Jirachi on this team does not feature a Steel type move. Mamoswine, in addition to Stealth Rock, provides some priority with Ice Shard, checks Electric types and most notably pressures opposing hazard removal with its strong Ice/Ground STAB coverage boosted by the Life Orb.

Ultimately, this team attempts to overwhelm the opponent by sheer force, utilizing powerful albeit innaccurate moves boosted by Hone Claws or converted into a Z-Move. Threats to this team include Mega Sharpedo, Mega Manectric and, of course, Weavile, but covering all monsters in the current metagame is an impossible task for an offensive build.

EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

- Stone Edge

CREATIVITY: 3.5 / 5
While most of the sets are standard at best, what stood out in this team is Jirachi with a Calm Mind + Thunder set, which is a pretty original build to take care of most Water-types. There are also underutilized sets that gave you a hint of bonuses as well, such as Specs Hydreigon, offensive Tentacruel (both very uncommon), and Hone Claws Mega Aerodactyl (underappreciated).

ESSENCE: 5 / 5
What stood this team out for this category is that you take advantage of inaccurate moves and use those on your set-up core to the fullest, which are both mitigated either by virtue of Hone Claws or by virtue of a Z-Crystal. While Hydro Pump Tentacruel and Stone Edge Infernape are some bonuses to cover some opposing Pokemon, using inaccurate moves to a set-up core is more than enough to warrant a good score in this criterion.

EFFECTIVENESS: 7 / 10
Upon further examination, we found a rather disturbing flaw: your team lacks something outright deal with Pokemon such as Swampert and Quagsire. What could make this team better is to use Freeze-Dry over Icicle Crash on Mamoswine to lure such Pokemon so as to let Mega Aerodactyl and Jirachi have a field day. Also, opposing set up Pokemon can take advantage of Choice-locked team members; having a lack of priority and even lack of momentum grabbing moves (Hydreigon: U-Turn) has the potential to hurt this team. This is a great team and is fun to use, other small move set considerations could include running Focus Blast + U-turn as coverage for Hydreigon, Ice Beam over Dazzling Gleam for Tentacruel in order to hit Latias harder on the switch whilst nabbing the OHKO on Gliscor. Otherwise, I can see where the direction of your team is going, so mad props to you for your valiant effort on building this good team.

TOTAL: 15.5 / 20

EPISODE 2: I'M IN LOVE WITH A MONSTER
Overall Winner: Renny_ || Team Status: CURRENT
Teams must contain at least two UU Pokemon from the Monster Egg group.

The secret ingredient this time was a problem for me, since i don't usually use these mons, maybe exept for aggron sometimes. I tried to build around it but couldn't find a decent result so i tried anything else, not in my style. I decided to build on an offensive volturn core, along with Sceptile and Nidoking. Rotom is the first pokemon i choose, for his great sinergy with the aforementioned mons. I choose a standard spdef set, which sucks but i really have some troubles with hydreigon, latias and gardevoir. I can check everyone of them in other ways but this was a safer one tho. For the evs i'm running enough speed for scizor/crawdaunt. Then i added hydreigon to complete my volturn core. Im just running the common scarf set, not much i can say about it. I was really needing something for weavile at this point and i choose scizor to fix this huge weakness. The bulky sd one, in order to check weavile, altaria, mamoswine and other mons like latias occasionally(hp fire is cool on scarf/z move+defog tho, so you need to scout the set a bit :|). Also uturn is cool to keep the momentum. As last i put tentacruel as removal, tspikes setter and cobalion/scizor check. In general is a pretty standard volturn, with sceptile/nidoking as momentum abusers. As last thought, i wanna just say that im not really happy with this team, since usually i prefer bulkiest builds and this one doesn't really fit this my playstyle.

Sceptile-Mega @ Sceptilite
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Dragon Pulse
- Giga Drain
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Leaf Storm

Nidoking @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Earth Power
- Ice Beam
- Sludge Wave
- Stealth Rock

Rotom-Wash @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 40 Def / 172 SpD / 48 Spe
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Volt Switch
- Will-O-Wisp
- Pain Split
- Hydro Pump

Scizor @ Leftovers
Ability: Technician
EVs: 224 HP / 216 Def / 68 SpD
Impish Nature
- Bullet Punch
- Roost
- Swords Dance
- U-turn

Hydreigon @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Dark Pulse
- Fire Blast
- U-turn

Tentacruel @ Black Sludge
Ability: Liquid Ooze
EVs: 248 HP / 236 Def / 24 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Toxic Spikes
- Rapid Spin
- Haze

CREATIVITY: 2 / 5
The Pokemon and the sets used in this team are, hands down, standard at best.

ESSENCE: 4 / 5
This is the most solid team in terms of how you put the monster core paired with VoltTurn. This team is definitely one of the easiest teams to follow and understand for starters.

EFFECTIVENESS: 8 / 10
The team isn't overly creative; let's get that right. I know this isn't really the type of team you wanted to build, but this team is dynamite for showcasing how truly effective VoltTurn is in the metagame, paired with a monstrous core that would tear opposing teams apart -- something that we judges would bring up in an official tournament. Your team isn't as heavy in terms of making predictions, and your team has covered almost all of the fundamentals this offensive team should have. Good job.

EPISODE 3: RUSSIAN ROULETTE
Overall Winner: Lord Esche || Team Status: CURRENT
Teams must contain at least one attack having at least 30% chance of inducing a secondary effect on at least four Pokemon.

I've grown rather bored of building in UU lately, so when the secret ingredient was revealed I looked for something extraordinary that fulfilled the requirements for this episode. Soon I found myself in the depths of the RU tier list, where Shaymin and its signature move, Seed Flare, caught my eye. Boasting a respectable 40% chance of lowering the opponents special defense, Seed Flare (combined with the multitude of coverage options Shaymin possesses) allows for breaking through supposed walls. However, picking an extraordinary spice always comes along with acknowledging its deficits and dangers. In Shaymin's case, the first and foremost deficit is its inability to check one of the most troublesome Water type Pokémon of UU, Suicune, due to the low PP of Seed Flare. Therefore, the next member of the team was chosen to help Shaymin with said burden. Coincidentally, the set designed for said member to be able deal with Substitue & Protect Suicune also makes it eligible to be another of the required four members possessing a move with chance greater than or equal to 30% of inflicting a secondary effect. Much greater in this case, ladies and gentlemen, I give you: Subsitute & Power-Up Punch Seismitoad! Swampert's forgotten type twin resides in the realm of the NeverUsed tier but shall not be forgotten any longer! In contrast to Swampert it sports the ability Water Absorb, shutting down any attempt of Suicune to sweep. Additionaly, Seismitoad checks Mega Mancetric (lacking the less common HP Grass), which has proven to be quite the asset to the many VoltTurn teams ever since its introduction to UU, and threatens to OHKO Shaymin with Overheat. Next, Mega Aerodactyl was added to provide a reliable answer to switch into Mega Beedrill as well as for the ability to remove it and Latias, which is a nuisance to both of the initial members of the team, with Pursuit. Roost increases its longevity and somewhat compensates for the lack of hazard removal on the team. The lack of Dragon, Fairy, Psychic and Ice resists concerned me for quite a while until once again I dared to glance at the RU tier. Bronzong not only offers a resistance to all of the aforementioned types but also provides Stealth Rock and Levitate. Iron Head was chosen over Gyro Ball to avoid PP problems versus phyiscally defensive versions of Mega Altaria and also qualifies Bronzong as the third member featuring a move that has a secondary effect with chance greater than or equal to 30%. So far the stall match-up of the team was considerably poor, and same can be said for the amount of Fighting type resists. Even more concerning was UU's most used toy, Scizor, which only Shaymin carried HP Fire for so far. Accordingly, Substitute & Calm Mind Chandelure fit the teams needs, and with Seimitoad and Mega Aerodactyl on the team I felt comfortable in chosing Flame Body over Flash Fire as a means of punishing U-turn and avoiding Trace shenanigans from Gardevoir and the occasional Porygon2. Deciding on the last member gave me quite a bit of trouble: The team desperately needed a Dark resist, Toxic Spikes would be the demise of both of my Subsitute users, and the team still lacked a fourth member for the secret ingredient. Ultimately, I decided on Assault Vest Muk-Alola to be the final addition to the team, its ability Poison Touch further increasing the secondary effect chance of Poison Jab. Admittedly, I intended the last member to add some more speed control to the team, but after some consideration and the realization that there aren't as many speed boosting sweepers around (outside of DD Mega Altaria, which Bronzong deals with, DD Cobalion which Chandelure walls, and QD Venomoth which Muk-Alola also helps with next to Mega Aerodactyl), the rainbow-toxic-spreading behemoth was accepted onto the team. After some testing, I decided to change Psychic for Dazzling Gleam on Shaymin to remove the omnipresent Hydreigon with a single blow, removed Pursuit in favour of Earthquake on Mega Aerodactyl since Muk-Alola was performing better at removing Latias, opted for Protect over the experimental Bulldoze on Bronzong to scout sets/move locks better and gain more Leftovers recovery, and went back and forth between Shadow Sneak and Fire Blast on Muk-Alola but ultimately, to the surprise of my own, deemed the priority move more useful, despite its low power.

CREATIVITY: 3.5 / 5
You made a valiant effort in digging through Pokemon in the lower tiers such as Bronzong, Shaymin, and Seismitoad (heck, with a very classic set without being a sitting duck vs. Suicune).

ESSENCE: 3 / 5
As a balanced team, it happened that there are a myriad of options to take advantage of the secondary effects. However, in this case, your team's goal of whittling down opponents by virtue of Seed Flare and Poison Jab (plus Poison Touch) is more inevitable, with an added bonus of using Power-Up Punch on Seismitoad to take care of Water-types, most notably Suicune.

EFFECTIVENESS: 7 / 10
This team has a very solid base, but what hurts so bad is the lack of Hazard control, which is definitely a must for any Balanced team for this metagame. You cover a lot of bases against most notable threats (Scizor and Suicune to name a few), but you lack a prompt switch-in to Weavile (which you admitted, but hopefully the suspect test result favors this), and Krookodile (most especially Choice Band sets). Otherwise, the team is nicely built; good job!

EPISODE 4: TARDIGRADES
Overall Winner: bla bla fat || Team Status: CURRENT
Teams must cover at least six different type immunities by virtue of the base form's typing and/or abilities.

This time I decided to go with a much bulkier team in contrast to my spicier dishes I have served before.

The first mon that shows itself is snorlax, I decided to go with a snorlax set I have been theorycrafting for a while now, "Moltlax" is the standard set of Iapapa lax with whirlwind as its 4th move. This may seem a fairly odd choice at the beginning as its completely walled by any ghost type, there is a quite valid reason as to why I am using it. Snorlax is often used as setup faughter to mons such as sd gliscor, scizor, Mega Altaria, and the likes. Whirlwind completely circumvents this weakness. However this isnt the only function of it. As I mentioned before this set is walled by any ghost types. However, the only mon in UU that is a ghost type is chandelure (with the occasional doublade, which isnt that common right now with the threat of weavile) now chandelure is another reason im running whirlwind. My team features spikes, as well as rocks on it which chandelure hates to come in on. Whirlwind forces chandelure to come in on hazards at snorlaxs will. I honestly prefer this set to the traditional fire punch/earthquake as the last slot as that allows for you to become setup faughter and be hard walled by much more.

Next we have mega altaria, this altaria set is an offensive healbeller. My snorlax really appreciates heal bell if it is unfortuate to get toxic'd. Getting burned actually helps snorlax out as it also features facade but toxic cripples it after it gets one or two hits in. mega altaria also helps lure a fairly big weakness to this team and that scizor. A scizor with superpower is quite worrisome to this team, and fire blast allows me to ohko it easily if it dares to switch in.

Klefki is just standard klefki with A Sparrows spread, with reflect to support snorlax as it is setting up, allowing it to take physical and special attacks with ease.

Gliscor is featuring one of my all time favorite sets (and one ive used in almost every iron chef team this season, wups.) and that is sd facade. Sd facade gliscor with speed puts in work vs so many times, as well as provides a semi-decent switchin to infernape and other fighting types which can be a nuisance to this team.

Empoleon is acting as a defog as well as a rocker holding toxic to beat primarina. Empoleon is holding a chople berry inorder to lure mons such as cobalion and infernape. It is evd to outspeed a bulky scizor

the last mon we have is hydreigon. Hydreigon is an amazing scarfer currently and acts as some good speed control on this team.

CREATIVITY: 2.5 / 5
While the team construction in itself is hands-down a team a starter would just slap and call it a team, what stood out in this team is Snorlax, which is not exactly a common Pokemon to see in this metagame, and how you put Whirlwind in there. Another stand-out to this criterion is the uncommon use of support Altaria using Special Attacks in the form of Fire Blast and Pixilate-boosted Hyper Voice.

ESSENCE: 3.5 / 5
This team is definitely geared towards balance, which is nice; what stood out in this team among other teams here is that you cover almost all of the immunities you have at hand not once, but twice (Ground, Poison, Dragon upon Altaria's Mega Evolution, being the most notable), which could also be reflective to your Effectiveness criterion since predictions would not be a pain on your part.

EFFECTIVENESS: 7.5 / 10
For a balanced team to flourish, it needs to have a set-up attacker that could conquer even Stall archetypes; from that structure itself, you have Snorlax and Gliscor that are potent stall breakers in the metagame, which is definitely a great thing to have. You managed to have countermeasures against Offensive archetypes as well from the likes of Klefki, Empoleon, and Hydreigon, which is enough to warrant a fairly high score in this criterion. This is a team well built; good job.

EPISODE 5: FADED
Overall Winner: explodingdaisies || Team Status: CURRENT
Teams must contain at least 2 Pokemon that were OU (or in Latias's case, Uber) by the generation they were introduced and remained OU (or in Terrakion's case, became BL) until Generation 6.
This is a classic volt turn team of m-mane+gliscor with a bit of a twist. Natural Gift Grass Entei nails nearly all the volt switch checks that have been creeping up lately: Seismitoad, gastrodon, swampert and also quagsire on stall I normally dislike running defog with spikes but with Entei being rocks weak and the switching I will be doing, it's nice to have rocks off the field. I went with a double lure latias set of tbolt and hp fire. It helps nail steel types like scizor and water types such as empoleon, primarina and mantine, which are the most common switchins to latias. This helps open things up for crawdaunt. Once those bulky waters are out of the way, I'm free to spam crabhammer. Klefki gives me spikes support as well as speed control with twave and toxic to help soften up mons for crawdaunt

- Defog

Klefki @ Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 244 SpD / 12 Spe
Careful Nature
- Spikes
- Toxic
- Play Rough
- Thunder Wave

CREATIVITY: 3 / 5
Let's get it right; your team doesn't have a Pokemon from the lower tiers (which holds you back in getting a considerably high score in this criterion). However, what stood out in this criterion is the unorthodox use of Entei with a Grass-type Natural Gift; Offensive Defog Latias without Roost is also icing on the cake.

ESSENCE: 2.5 / 5
The Pokemon that you used are just there to fulfill their own roles; while they stood out on their own, you failed to elevate their roles by capitalizing their capabilities and translate it into something like a game plan.

EFFECTIVENESS: 6 / 10
The team is actually solid; unfortunately, you lacked a bit of firepower to muscle your way through Stall archetypes. While you do admit Healing Wish could be a good option on Latias to give Crawdaunt a second chance on breaking them, you could have given Latias Choice Scarf as well since Scarf Infernape poses a bit of problem to your team as well. Another issue in your team is that you need something to deal with Toxic Spikes; apparently, your team doesn't have hazard control; it's like you're recklessly driving (VoltTurning) without looking at any possible hazards on the road (Toxic Spikes), so extra thought must be addressed. Despite these shortcomings, your team shows promise, and such refinement would lead your team to greater heights. Great effort there.

For this build I decided to do a standard Ho core of talonstoise with azelf. Azelf functions as the lead sr as normal, holding thunder which was originally to add another move under 80%, but has actually proved quite useful in hurting mons that could potentially rapid spin or attempt to setup on an azelf such as mega blastoise, suicune, matine, tentacruel etc. It also can help damage some bulky waters to help out talonflame so that it doesnt have to use its Z move. Gliscor is there as a decent stallbreaker running 188+ jolly to outspeed rotom-ws, nido, toge, entei, etc. Next up we have an offensive rotom wash. I was debating the item on rotom for quite a while between specs or leftovers, as both can help patch different things in the team. But I chose leftovers for 3 main reasons. The versatility often allows me to sweeps water/eletric coverage is amazing, if I clicked an electric attack as a mamoswine entered and I was specs, I was then confined to sacking a mon (although this wouldnt happen often because its not a very common set), and finally the main reason, this team is incredibly weak to DD mega altaria. With leftovers it allows the team to atleast have some counterplay to it by thunder wavig it, volt switching out and switching to whichever mon is necessary to get enough chip for a poison jab from terrak to kill. Speaking of terrakion, I was debating between nihiligo, infernape, or terrakion for quite a while but I eventually decided on terrakion as it has a great speed tier for a scarfer tying with infernape, has great coverage and provides a dark resist to my team.

The team plays just like normal HO.

Notable threats to the team include mega altaria as stated before, Mega latias with thunderbolt can also cause a problem but usually I can overpower it with talonflame blastoise and terrakion, and the final notable threat I have found to the team is (...)

When I saw the secret ingredient I was pretty happy have to say, I've never tried Aerodactyl in this new meta, and this could be the opportunity, since his rock-type stab is perfect for this restriction. I don't remember the entire building phase, since i did really a lot of changes to fix as much weakness as i can. I just remember that i started with Aerodactyl and Rotom-w(which died during the building phase) as core, and after about 30 minutes this team comes up. Basically is a pretty standard team, with Hydreigon, Aerodactyl and Jirachi as main breakers. Krookodile really helps against threat like Latias, which can be annoying for Hydreigon. Cobalion helps with rocks and can do his damages thanks to swords dance. I decide to put a chople berry on it since Im not running haze tentacruel, and it can help with other Cobalions, Terrakions or Scizors. Not much to say about Tentacruel, is my removal and can set tspikes as well, which are really useful for this team. I decide to run sludge bomb because I was a little bit scared of Primarina, since it can join everytime Hydreigon tries to do his damages. About my 80%(or less) accuracy moves i don't have much to say, all pretty standard in these mons sets, maybe exept for focus blast hydreigon, which can be useful for Empoleon.

What has changed from the previous UU Iron Chef installments?

Alright. First of all, to make this project more fun than the previous Iron Chef installments, I managed to pull off one crazy idea -- to introduce a special guest that will exemplify this certain secret ingredient. Now, you already saw that the secret ingredient has something to do with attacks with at most 80% accuracy, so I have to think which person or group of persons best exemplify this certain theme. Fortunately, I have watched the third season of MasterChef and I witnessed how Christine Ha pulled off a lot of best-tasting dishes despite her blindness, and there goes my inspiration.

When we come back, we will reveal the reason why the Chairman himself no longer takes the position as the Iron Chef.

Stay tuned for the most explosive team building project the UnderUsed community has ever graced: Iron Chef!

OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE CHAIRMAN!

Good day, everyone! Apologies for the short notice, but because I have a real life game to prepare on Monday, September 18, I am most likely not to attend to this project tomorrow which could possibly delay the airing of this project's first cycle. Therefore, instead of delaying any further, allow me to start the cycle today, and this episode will be an extended one, which will last until Sunday, September 24, 11:00 AM GMT -4, as planned. As such, allow me to start our first episode!
. . . . . . .

For the opening episode, this special guest I have today is one of the most prominent MasterChefs because of this one characteristic: she is able to cook highly elevated dishes even without a complete sense of sight. Please welcome...

CHRISTINE HA!
Christine Ha is hailed as the winner of the third season of MasterChef US, the only blind chef so far to have such a feat. After her win in MasterChef US, she began co-hosting the Canadian TV show Four Senses with Top Chef Canada Season 2 winner Carl Heinrich in 2013. She also had numerous appearances as a judge in various MasterChef shows, notably in Vietnam (guest judge in Season 2 and regular judge in Season 3) and in US (guest judge in Season 4). She was the first chef to become the winner of the Helen Keller Personal Achievement Award in 2014, an award to people and organizations that demonstrated outstanding achievement in improving quality of life for people with vision loss.

[source]

One of the biggest reasons why Christine won in that season of MasterChef is because her palette is extraordinary, and such characteristic has been exemplified in certain studies regarding the heightened remaining senses when one of the senses lost its function. Now, feel free to open the secret ingredient below!

. . . . . . .

FOUR SENSES!

Sometimes, we get frustrated that one of our Pokemon did not hit a rather inaccurate move. Sometimes, we rant such moments and call such Pokemon blind. However, there is a reason why such moves are worth using despite low accuracy, and we definitely value them and turn them into a huge advantage for the team. This is somehow the same thing Christine has gone through, especially throughout the third season of MasterChef: she initially doubted herself, thinking she could not pull off some dishes due to her blindness, but she managed to endure insurmountable amounts of stress coming her way to the top.

Essentially, participants are required to build a team featuring at least (or a minimum of) one attack (note: moves without a base power is not allowed) with at most (or, a maximum of) 80% accuracy on at least three Pokemon. Note that I will allow Pokemon with Hustle, Compound Eyes, and No Guard, provided that the base accuracy of at least one attack should satisfy the aforementioned condition.

Participants have until
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 11 AM GMT -4
to complete your dishes to be sent to the Chairman via PM.

Allez, cuisine!

OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE CHAIRMAN!

Good day, everyone! It's less than 13 hours remaining before Phase 2 will begin; unfortunately, I have received no teams as of this moment. While perhaps the requirement is way too much for participants to build on (and based on my personal experience, it definitely is quite hard to pull off without compensating its effectiveness), I will make the requirement a little more reasonable. For this opening cycle, the least number of Pokemon that will have at least one attack of at most 80% accuracy is now reduced to three instead of four. While participants are still thinking of the Pokemon they wanted to use, I will also extend Phase 1 for 24 more hours; thus the deadline is on Wednesday, September 20, 11 AM GMT -4. I will edit the original post and all other posts to reflect such changes.

(I hope there will be participants submitting their teams from this time on, so get cooking, guys!)

Do not let a loss deter you! These are the famed UU iron chefs; they were hand picked by the chairman, from all corners of the world, for their culinary skills and prowess. Do not forget each dish will be judged on more than just their individual performance, victory does ensure bonus points; but each course is judged on their culinary delight and utilisation of the secret ingredient!
