Pluff

[Overview]

Jumpluff didn't change much in the transition to Gen 5; its movepool stayed the same, and its still a relatively average Pokemon. Jumpluff can take advantage of Sleep Powder, its plethora of support moves, and its great Speed stat, however, Jumpluff was cursed with mediocre defenses, as well awful typing, which gives it a weakness to common Rock- and Ice-type moves, as well as a crippling weakness to Stealth Rock, and horrible offensive stats. Jumpluff is by no means a bad Pokemon, and as long as you don't expect it to take too much abuse, it should support your team very effectively.

[SET]
name: SubSeed
move 1: Leech Seed
move 2: Substitute
move 3: Sleep Powder
move 4: Encore
item: Leftovers
ability: Chlorophyll
nature: Timid
evs: 188 Def / 68 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

This set is, without a doubt, the best set available to Jumpluff. Constantly using Leech Seed, Substitute, and Sleep Powder will send your opponent into a rage-induced coma. Encore is used used to lock the opponent into a move that doesn't threaten Jumpluff, such as Stealth Rock, thus giving it a chance to set up. With entry hazard support, the passive damage from Leech Seed and switching out will really start to rack up.

The EV spread aims to make Jumpluff as fast as possible while still retaining 223 in both defenses. A Timid nature with 252 Speed EVs allows Jumpluff to outrun Durant and everything slower. Hidden Power Flying, Bounce, and U-turn are options over Encore; Hidden Power Flying and Bounce are used to deal respectable damage to the Grass-types that wall Jumpluff, whereas U-turn is used for scouting or to escape from a Pokemon that directly threatens Jumpluff.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

After Sleep Clause has been activated, Grass-types make excellent counters to Jumpluff, as such, Fire-types, such as Entei, make excellent partners for it, as they can also sponge the super effective Fire- and Ice-type attacks aimed at it. Other offensive partners include Typhlosion and Swellow, but their sheer fragility and weakness to Stealth Rock will make finding an opportunity to switch them in a difficult task.

Entry Hazard support is essential for success when using this set; the passive damage the opponent will be taking from Leech Seed and entry hazards will rack up. Nidoqueen makes an excellent partner to Jumpluff as it can set up Stealth Rock and Toxic Spikes, while also resisting the Rock- and Poison-type moves that target it. Qwilfish is another excellent partner; resisting the Poison- and Ice-type moves that threaten Jumpluff, while being able to set up Toxic Spikes and Spikes as well.

As with any Pokemon weak to Stealth Rock, Rapid Spin support is greatly appreciated. Because of this, Claydol makes an excellent partner to Jumpluff; using Rapid Spin to clear the field of entry hazards, while also setting up Stealth Rock of its own and resisting the Poison-type moves that Jumpluff is weak to. Other good partners that possess Rapid Spin are Hitmonchan, Sandslash, and Kabutops, as all of these Pokemon possess resistances to 1 or more types that hit Jumpluff super effectively.

[SET]
name: Sunny Day
move 1: Sunny Day
move 2: Sleep Powder
move 3: U-Turn
move 4: Memento / Encore
item: Heat Rock
ability: Clorophyll
nature: Jolly
evs: 252 HP / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

In any tier, Sun is a deadly playstyle, and RU is no exception. With the introduction of powerful ways to abuse sunlight, such as Sawsbuck, and Charizard's Dream World ability, Solar Power, sun is a great playstyle that should not be taken lightly. This is where Jumpluff comes in, setting up sunlight with relative ease. Sleep Powder gives Jumpluff a guaranteed free turn to set up sunlight. With the Growth mechanics changing to now give +2 Special Attack and +2 Attack whilst under sunlight, Memento is used to give one of Jumpluff's teammates a free chance to set up. Encore is used much to the same effect as Memento, but it is much more unreliable because your opponent can switch out.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Heat Rock is the recommended item as it extends the amount of turns that you can abuse sunlight. Max HP and max Speed EVs are straightforward; you want Jumpluff to be as fast as possible and still take weak resisted attacks. Chlorophyll is the superior ability as, because of Jumpluff's fragility, your opponents won't spend time statusing Jumpluff; they will just try to KO it.

This set should strictly be used on a Sunny Day team. As such, Chlorophyll sweepers, such as Sawsbuck and Victreebel, make excellent teammates to Jumpluff; benefiting from the speed boost that Jumpluff gives them. Pokemon with powerful Fire-type attacks, such as Charizard and Entei, also make excellent partners to Jumpluff as their STAB Fire-type moves will be boosted by the sunlight. Charizard, in particular, makes a great teammate because of its Dream World ability, Solar Power, which raises Charizard's Special Attack by x1.5, at the cost of 1/8th HP each turn, meaning you have more than enough time to obliterate everything in sight.

As this set is used only on Sunny Day teams, Rapid Spin support is essential.

[Other Options]
- Not a lot
- Dual status set is an option
- Full out support set is an option with Reflect and Memento

[Checks and Counters]
- Ferroseed counters basically every set as it's immune to Leech Seed and doesn't mind being asleep
- Altaria can make short work of 'pluff with Natural Cure
- Faster Scarfers can beat Jumpluff if it doesn't have a Sub up
- Honchkrow can switch-in to Sleep Powder because of Insomnia, and threaten an OHKO.
- Sawsbuck and Bouffalant both absorb Leech Seed and Sleep Powder, meaning they can switch into almost any Jumpluff set with relative ease
- Rock Blast users like Rhydon and Cinccino beat the Substitute sets with relative ease
- Keeping Stealth Rock on the field plays a big part in beating Jumpluff. As such, spinblockers, such as Dusknoir or Rotom, are good.
- Whirlwind Munchlax does really well as it can phaze out Jumpluff's subs, causing it to take more Stealth Rock damage when it comes back in

I'd actually slash in U-Turn next to Sub, Encore+U-Turn is pretty damn annoying (see Illumise/Vobeat), and it does prevent it from becoming Taunt Bait. Also, mention Giga Drain/Hidden Power/Bounce in the AC

It needs Sub to make it work; otherwise it wouldn't be SubSeed

True, but if you simply change the name to "Support", and mention dedicated SubSeed in OO (or vice-versa, I have yet to test him in RU)...

I'd kind of like to see Sunny Day support added as a full set rather than just an OO mention -- having a supporter with Encore, U-Turn, and Memento available is a huge asset to most Sun teams, especially with Growth getting the new boost and free turns from Memento becoming more useful to most sun sweepers.

Sawsbuck and Bouffalant to checks and counters.

Mention that faster scarfers can easily come in and beat it if Jumpluff doesn't have a sub up.

Mention that Jumpluff appreciates hazard support due to it causing a fair amount of switches.

After talking with Honko and windsong on IRC we think you should include this set:

[SET]
name: Sunny Day
move 1: Sunny Day
move 2: Sleep Powder
move 3: U-Turn
move 4: Memento / Encore
item: Heat Rock
ability: Clorophyll
nature: Timid
evs: 252 HP / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

After that, consider this
