Kokoromori Dex

[Overview]

Kokoromori is a classic missed opportunity. Sitting pretty at a base Speed of 114, Kokoromori outpaces all but 26 Pokemon. Unfortunately, without picking up a stat boost, Kokoromori isn't going to OHKO anything that it can't get a STAB Super Effective hit on due to its pathetic 77 base Special Attack. As if that weren't enough its secondary ability is Klutz, yet it doesn't have Trick or Switcheroo to make any use of it. Luckily its typing, Speed, move pool, and its rather exclusive ability in Unaware allow it to fill a couple very specific niches some teams may need.

[SET]
name: Choice Specs
move 1: Psychic / Psycho Shock
move 2: Air Slash
move 3: Shadow Ball
move 4: Hidden Power Fighting
item: Choice Specs
ability: Unaware
nature: Timid
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Unaware is an ability that nullifies the offensive stat boosts of Pokemon targeting Kokoromori and nullifies the defense boosts of any Pokemon targeted by Kokoromori. To abuse this trait, Kokoromori comes in on anything boosting its stats, nullifies the boosts, and takes it out with its decent coverage. Psychic is for Roobushin, Air Slash is for Butterfly Dancers as all are weak to Flying, Shadow Ball lets it hit Rankurusu and Espeon, while the final move slot is used to ensure that Kokoromori isn't walled by Steel-types or trapped by Dark-types.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Unless Kokoromori can hit the other Pokemon Super Effectively its still going to have issues OHKOing even with Choice Specs as 77 Special Attack is, again, nothing to be proud of. Kokoromori's not going to be taking any kind of Super Effective hit due to its terrible defenses and disappointing HP. Energy Ball and Hidden Power Ice are options to consider depending on what a team has issues with.

[SET]
name: Psych Up
move 1: Psych Up
move 2: Air Slash
move 3: Psychic / Psycho Shock
move 4: Roost / Reflect
item: Life Orb / Leftovers
ability: Unaware
nature: Timid
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

This set takes full advantage of Unaware by stealing the stat boosts of the opposing Pokemon using Psych Up while still nullifing their initial boosts. While Kokoromori can come in and do this to any Pokemon that uses a move it resists, it really enjoys coming in on Defense and Special Defense boosting Pokemon like Bulk Up Roopushin or Calm Mind Rankurusu and steal their defensive and offensive boosts leaving them unable to KO Kokoromori.

Air Slash and Psychic gives Kokoromori some decent STAB power which it desperately needs. The flinching effect of Air Slash lets to score crucial KOs it wouldn't be able to get otherwise. Roost lets it heal off any damage it might pick up. But if entry hazards or Life Orb damage isn't a concern, Reflect let's it support the rest of the team while cushioning physical blows. If Kokoromori use Reflect, use Leftovers over Life Orb.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Some Special Attack EVs can be dropped into HP or Defense to take hits better. Hidden Power Fire or Fighting can be used over Air Slash if Steel-types are too bothersome. But keep in mind that is loses KOs that Air Slash's flinch rate may give it. Psychic is advised over Psycho Shock as it's Kokoromori's only way to OHKO Roobushin and other bulky Fighting-types it has to switch in on.

[Team Options]

Steel and Dark-types that fear Roobushin and other Fighting-types enjoy having Kokoromori around. Pokemon like Blissey that become setup fodder in a lot of cases like to have Kokoromori on the team to deal with those problems. Even Calm Mind users like Suicune and Bijirion can make use of Kokoromori's ability as they can never win a fight against another Calm Mind user that carries Psycho Shock such as Rankurusu or Espeon.

Kokoromori is a tool to stop setups and should never be used as the core of the team, so covering Kokoromori's weaknesses with other Pokemon should be one of the last things to think about when using it and instead think about how using Kokoromori can cover the weaknesses of the rest of the team. Kokoromori is very fraile so bulky teammates that cover its weaknesses are ideal. Metagross, Tyranitar, Doryuuzu, Warubiaru, and Blissey are few notable Pokemon that help Kokoromori while Kokoromori can help them. Steel-types in general are helpful in covering Koko's weaknesses and they always enjoy having a x4 resist to Fighting with a Ground immunity on the team as well.

[Optional Changes]

Its offensive move pool is decent, but not exactly anything to write home about. All its options but Charge Beam are mentioned in the Choice Specs set. Its support move pool is pretty average as well. It can run a dual Screens set if a team needs something fast that can setup on and take out Pokemon while they try to boost stats. Calm Mind is an option over Psyche Up if you're into that. Just beware of physical attackers with priority if you go the Calm Mind route.

[Counters]

Kokoromori has terrible, terrible defenses and is easily OHKOd by anything with Super Effective STAB, so counters are anything from Zapdos to Regirock to Maggyo.

[Dream World]

Kokoromori gets the ability Simple, which doubles its stat boosts and drops. Meaning Calm Mind now gives a +2 stat boost instead of +1. It can also use Amnesia for and instant +4 boost in Special Defense. After a Calm Mind boost, Kokoromori can become a very scary Pokemon to deal with at 359 Speed hitting 506 Special Attack with a Timid nature. But with Pokemon like Perversity Leaf Storm Jarooda, the Unaware Psych Up set becomes one of the best counters to it and isn't to be overshadowed.

Thing also has access to taunt, dual screens, and u-turn (may see room on choice sets).

Also, dun, dun, Flatter! which just confuses with no side-effects thanks to unaware, and swagger too; although, essentially they're the same thing.

I already noted dual screens in the Optional Changes section.

Taunt on a Pokemon that thrives on it's opponent's boosts (assuming Psych Up set) is kind of pointless. Though to be fair, Koko has all the options to be an effective dual screens lead with Taunt and U-turn. Though the job is done much better by Azelf who is just one base point faster, a lot more power, and even better defensive stats across the board.

Flatter and Swagger are iffy moves. The opponent still gets the stat boosts, but just can't use them against Kokoromori. So if Kokoromori happens to get KO'd or switch out, the opponent can use the boosts against the next Pokemon.

But, using Swagger and Thunder Wave, Koko can run a Parafusion set. It has the speed to stop all Substitute attempts with Taunt, but it does lacks the defenses necessary to take a hit if the opponent can break through it's confusion.

Taunt, Swagger with Attack boost cancelled, Thunder Wave, Air Slash, and 114 base Speed...my god. Mt. Moon with no Repels seems like a pretty peaceful stroll compared to...Paraflinchfusion in the caves of Isshu.

...We must have Glare users, and Roobushin Flinging Light Balls, and then Paraflinchfusion Kokoromori shall sweep entire teams. Yeah! So good. Let's ban it now!

Leave spaces between slashed attacks, this is the format your looking for:

move 3: Shadow Ball
move 4: Hidden Power Fighting

Another minor point,
Kokoromori's not going to be taking any kind of Super Effective hit due to it's terrible defenses
it's=it is. You should be using its.

Cool analysis.

Actually, doesn't Air Slash hit Roopushin too? :0 I think Psycho Shock should be the primary slash in that slot, since the main debate with Psychic VS Psycho Shock is hitting Fighters. But... you already have STAB Air Slash for that. Seems like that crappy typing is sort of a blessing in disguise in that sense. I'd run Psycho Shock so you can at least do some damage to Chansey / Blissey.

Already explained it.

Psychic is advised over Psycho Shock as its Kokoromori's only way to OHKO Roobushin and other bulky Fighting-types it has to switch in on.
Kokoromori isn't going to be switching in on and dealing with Blissey any time soon. Psycho Shock is there as an option since it can hit some Pokemon harder than Psychic. Psychic is still the primary choice due to the MUCH needed extra base power.

tehy

Banned deucer.
Also, roobushin is much more physically than specially bulky, so psycho shock is better for it than psychic.

Nope. Kokoromori's stats are just too terrible for OU in general. 114 base Speed is its only acceptable stat, but even with Specs, its 77 base Special Attack is nowhere near the amount necessary to do any significant damage. On top of that, Psychic is still a terrible attacking type, and using unSTAB moves off of 77 base Special Attack is just asking to get set up on and dominated by anything with a pulse. Unaware is "cute", but also almost entirely irrelevant when defense boosters are nearly nonexistant and you have 67/55/55 defenses AND a Stealth Rock weakness.

MAYBE this thing might be borderline marginally usable when it gets Simple, as Simple Calm Mind seems marginally amusing. Until then (and maybe even after then), this thing is doomed to rot in the depressing depths of UU or (more likely) NU.

QC REJECTED (1/2)

Give Simple more credit. I don't give a crap how bad your stats are, when you can use Amnesia and Nasty Plot in one turn...that's pretty cool.

But other then that, this thing sucks balls.

Simple also "doesn't exist yet", and we probably won't be writing OU analyses for currently shitty Pokemon simply because they might become slightly less shitty in the future.

Same thing that happens when a suitable tier for the Pokemon gets generated. When UU exists, we'll start taking analyses for UU Pokemon. When the ability that makes it OU-worthy gets released, we'll let it get written. Until then, it makes no sense to write an analysis geared toward a shitty version of a Pokemon just because a "better version" might come out later.

Inconsistent abusers say hi.

The Psych Up set may be decent against Inconsistent abusers. That's the only plausibility I can see in OU. It is also the only Unaware Pokémon that also has Psych Up, besides Clefable, who is not yet released.

But yeah. The Choice Specs set just doesn't have the strength to make it do more than tickle the opponent to death.

-Zane

P.S. I haven't tried it against Inconsistent whores, yet. Has anybody had luck with it?

Currently, Unaware Kokoromori is outclassed by Unaware Quagsire, who sports better bulk and typing. Until perversity Jaroda gets relwased, however. But then Kokoromori will have Simple.

Very nice thread.

I honestly don't see anything warranting the Simple CM set's use over Crobat's NP set. Crobat has tons more bulk and even factoring in the +2 Special Defense, Kokoromori will be sitting at a useless 270 some Special Defense (useless with an HP stat of 275 considering a perfect IV and no investment) considering no investment and neutral nature. Considering a Timid Nature for both, after the CM boost, Koko has only got about 30 Special Attack Points over Crobat while Crobat has 35 more speed and usable bulk. Crobat also has Heat Wave as opposed to Kokoromori's easily walled coverage.

You mean copying and pasting? Too much work?
Man, this QC thing is so inconsistent in it's requirements. "Kurimugan (QC Approved 2/2)" Move. Over. Doryuuzu.

Because Kokoromori's adorable and Crobat has the face of a disappointed father.

If you're running max Sp.Attack on Simple Kokoromori, I kinda have to ask 'why?'
Crobat has that purely offensive boost, but Koko gets that and a defensive boost. It's that defensive boost that gives you something to play around with. If you can force a switch, that trolling 359 Speed almost guarantees a second Calm Mind boost on Special switch-ins.
I rarely ever play Dream World or, as I call it, Action Replay tier, but whenever I use Simple Kokoromori I always run max speed, 104 HP, & throw the rest of the EVs where ever I need them most which usually ends up looking something like 104 HP / 44 SAtk / 108 SDef / 252 Spd

But yea, for the sake of peace, Crobat's better.

But then again I don't play Dream World. But then again I'm not even sure if you're talking about Pokemon. A Poison-type, that's not Nidoking, thinking it has better coverage than something? Never will Game Freak allow this to happen.
