    THE RULES:
And... let's see where we've been brought to today! It's Koopa Cape!
Koopa Cape - Star Cup 2 (open)

    Arena: Koopa Cape
    Field Type: Water, Electric
    Complexity: Intense
    Formats: Singles, Doubles

    Restrictions: All moves are allowed.

    Description:
Koopa Cape is the second stage in the Star Cup. Located on what appears to be a small island of sorts, the racetrack leads racers through a small forest, as well as an underwater glass tunnel that showcases the aquatic life around the isle. The course begins on a cliffside of the isle, then curves around into the middle. There, a small river provides a current for racers to drive faster, in addition to waterless paths on the side. Afterwards, racers dive straight down into an underwater glass tunnel where they can see the local Cheep Cheep and Unagi Eel populations while attempting to avoid rotating beams of electricity.

    Cliffside Rounds
On the first round and every third round after that, racers race by the cliffside, either just beginning the race or coming out of the glass tunnel. After a large jump off of the boosting pad, the battlers encounter a curved path where a number of Goomba reside. Combat here is just like standard combat, with the exception that attacking moves with at least one (1) priority have their energy cost increased by three (3) due to avoiding the Goombas. However, at the end of each round, there is a 30% chance for each kart to crash into a Goomba, lowering the Pokemon's Evasion by a flat fifteen (15) percent and their speed by fifty (50) percent for the next round.

    Forest Rounds
On the second round and every third round after that, racers turn out of the cliffside and into a small forest. There seem to be two paths here: one path that is comprised of a gravel road where racers can perform a stunt, and another one that is literally in a river current. When battlers issue their actions on the Forest rounds, they first determine which path they will travel and then their actions; actions that target Pokemon on the same path as the user will have a flat five (5) percent increase in accuracy and deal one (1) more damage.

Should a Pokemon choose to take the gravel road, they will amble down the path with only one effect, namely the stunt off of a wooden ramp. The stunt has a 25% chance to do nothing, a 50% chance to increase the Pokemon's speed by one stage (this is a normal stage boost), or a 25% chance to increase all of the Pokemon's stats by one stage (a la AncientPower) for the next round.

If a Pokemon opts to take the river current, however, several things happen. Firstly, the Pokemon's Speed is increased by fifty (50) percent for the duration of the round; this boost is amplified to one hundred (100) percent for Water-type Pokemon. Second, all Water-type moves have two (2) more BAP due to the abundance of water in the river; all Fire-type moves have two (2) less BAP for the same reason. Moreover, the constant maneuvering that the Pokemon must do in order to remain on the river current is both confusing to other racers and exhausting for the Pokemon, resulting in a flat ten (10) percent increase in Evasion and a loss of five (5) Energy at the end of the round.

    Glass Tunnel Rounds
On the third round and every third round after that, the racers exit the forest and fall into the underwater glass tunnel. When not being distracted by the Unagi Eels and Cheep Cheeps, battlers race through this narrow tunnel while avoiding the rotating beams of electricity. Because of the electrical sources from the lights around the tunnel and the beams, all Electric-type moves deal two (2) more damage while in the glass tunnel. Due to the narrowness of the tunnel, all Pokemon have a flat X% decrease in Evasion, where X is the Size Class of the Pokemon multiplied by three (3). Moreover, at the end of the round, when the Pokemon exit the tunnel, there is a Y% chance for the Pokemon to get struck by one of the beams of electricity, where Y is equal to the Size Class of the Pokemon multiplied by five (5). Getting struck by the beam will result in 25% Paralysis; in addition, the Pokemon's Size Class will be reduced by one-half until the Paralysis wears off.

    Summary:
Cliffside Rounds: Priority moves cost 3 more Energy, a chance to crash into Goombas.
Forest Rounds: Two different paths with different effects, targeting a Pokemon on the same path has 5 more Acc and 1 more DMG; Water moves have 2 more BAP.
Glass Tunnel Rounds: Electric moves deal 2 more DMG, Pokemon have reduced Evasion, chance to get struck by beams of electricity.

With that out of the way, we can stop reading my sparse flavor take a peek at the teams!

Stiffled by acting as a living mascot, a parade pet or trophy mon, Smogon has finally found his way into the hands of a battling trainer. Ready to partake in the activity he's grown to represent, Smogon is nonetheless reserved and focused on his new, wearying path.

Terrador seems to have the stronger squad, but there seems to be two Koffing on the battlefield! Let's see if Lou can use this to his advantage and push Terrador off Koopa Cape!

    TURN ORDER
Terrador sends out Vibrava and Seadra and determines Seadra's ability.
Lou sends out... Koffing and Koffing and doesn't need to determine abilities.
    Lou issues actions.
    Terrador issues actions.

    BEGIN ROUND ONE

Welcome to Koopa Cape, where two duos are fighting to knock each other out of commission! We've got Zigzag and Atlanta on one side, both fierce dragons, led by equally fierce Terrador! On the other side, we have... Smogon A and Smogon B, led by Lou, who seems to be smiling knowingly. What? The Pokemon are off already, racing down the track!

Smogon A is surprising agile, floating over to Zigzag before pouncing and delivering a powerful strike! Zigzag doesn't look like he appreciated the attack! But what's this? Terrador commands both his Pokemon to use evasive maneuvers; indeed, one digs beneath the racetrack while the other one bounces high up into the sky. Smogon B does something more normal and let's a screen full of black smoke loose, but it seems to have affected nobody. Oh well. Both Zigzag and Atlanta come back to the racetrack now, slamming into Smogon B before returning to their karts. This looks like an uphill fight for Lou!

Next, Zigzag moves quickly around his kart, creating four illusory clones of himself! This doesn't bode too well for Lou's team! Atlanta opts for a more offensive approach and uses the water nearby, combines it with mud and other assorted disgusting things, and launches a wave of muddy water at Smogon A and Smogon B! Amidst the coughing and spluttering that invariably follows, Smogon B suddenly flashes, turns black, then assumes the form of Anonymous the Zorua! It seems that the illusion has been broken! Smogon launches a pile of sludge at Zigzag, but he hits the wrong clone instead... Meanwhile, Anonymous recovers from his combo.

Anonymous is back and doing something useful; he launches another unerring strike at Zigzag, hitting the right one and destroying the rest of his clones! Zigzag digs beneath the racetrack again, leaving potholes for the maintenance crew to patch up. Atlanta fires off a torrent of pressurized water at Smogon, dealing a rather large amount of damage. Meanwhile, Smogon tries to launch another pile of sludge at Zigzag, but fails to figure out where he is and ends up launching it at a nearby Goomba, somewhat enraging it. Who cares about Goomba anyways? Zigzag comes back up and hits Smogon. Nothing we haven't seen before.

And now we're rounding the curve, about to enter the Forest zone... BOOM. It seems that a swarm of Goomba has decided to attack the players in retaliation for Smogon's sludge bomb! Ironically enough, Smogon easily controls his kart, avoiding all the Goomba without even breaking a sweat. Atlanta struggles to avoid clipping the pointy heads of the Goomba, but she too manages to not crash. On the other hand, Zigzag and Anonymous are not so lucky, crashing headfirst into the angry horde of Goomba. After a short while, they manage to extricate themselves and get on the racetrack once more. Let's see what paths these Pokemon will choose!

    BEGIN ROUND TWO

Now we're heading into the Forest, and it seems like everyone except for Atlanta takes the Gravel Path! They start trundling towards that ramp at the end, hoping to snatch some prizes from the stunt! Atlanta, on the other hand, launching her kart into the river and begins to twist and turn like a madman caught in a fishing net. A wonderful image, no?

Anyway, Atlanta uses the water current she's in to conjure up what appears to be an inordinately large sphere of glistening water. Then, she chucks the sphere at Anonymous, doing tons of damage. Zigzag opts for a more insidious approach, grabbing some boulders from the side of the river, then launching them at both Smogon and Anonymous, dealing hefty damage. Unfortunately, it seems that they had been anticipating that attack, as neither one of them flinches. Anonymous suddenly makes a strange movement towards Zigzag, which seems to make Zigzag enraged yet tormented at the same time...? Whatever. Smogon then takes Zigzag's healthy life aura, compares it to his own, then evens them out, restoring his own health in a rather gruesome way that would probably get him killed if he lived in Salem.

Empowered by the river, Atlanta mixes more muddy crap in then launches a torrent of this new muddy water at Smogon and Anonymous. Funnily enough, neither of them really care about the mud, but they do find the water rather annoying. While Zigzag suddenly takes to the sky, Smogon repeats the same aura-evening procedure, except with Atlanta this time. Smogon seems to be exhausted by the effort, but it seems to be worth it, as Atlanta suddenly winces in pain. Zigzag comes back down and strikes Anonymous, who has been unmoving up to now. She suddenly launches a counterstrike, reflecting the power of the fly attack back to Zigzag.

Seeing her partner hurt, Atlanta fires off another round of hyper-pressured water at Anonymous; Anonymous and her kart are sent flying off the path and crashing into the trees, where she lays there, unmoving. It seems that Anonymous has been knocked out! Zigzag launches another barrage of rocks at Smogon, who takes the hit like a champ and again, manages not to flinch. He launches another pile of sludgy waste at Zigzag, finally connecting, and ends up knocking Zigzag out as well!

Now, Smogon suddenly launches off the wooden ramp and performs a stunt! It seems that his speed has been increased for the duration of the next round! The battlers fall off the cliff in the current... and go into the underwater glass tunnel! Let's see how they do there!

    BEGIN ROUND THREE

Smogon chills off from his early endeavors, while Atlanta fires off a jet of salty water into his smoke puffer wound things. The water seems to have an unusually large concentration of salt in it, dealing more damage than usual! While Atlanta fires off a pulse of draconic energy, Smogon counters with another bomb of sludgy waste, even poisoning Atlanta! Unfortunately, this is not enough to prevent him from imminent destruction, as Atlanta knocks him off his kart with one last pulse of brine.
