[Overview]

Landorus is a solid choice for a VGC team, having STAB Earthquake as well as a resistance to common spread moves. It is also blessed with great Attack as well as reasonable bulk. While Landorus’s unfortunate 4x weakness to Ice-type attacks may seem unfavorable, its power and bulk more than make up for it.

    [Set]
    Name: Lead
    Move 1: Earthquake
    Move 2: Rock Slide
Move 3: Explosion / Brick Break / Hammer Arm
    Move 4: Protect
Item: Normal Gem / Life Orb / Yache Berry
    Nature: Adamant / Jolly
    Ability: Sand Force
    Evs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe

    [Set Comments]

This Landorus is meant to be used as a lead, using its powerful spread moves in Earthquake and Rock Slide to crush the opponent. Protect is used to ease prediction, and to allow Landorus’s partner to kill Pokemon that threaten Landorus. Earthquake is an amazing move for Landorus, getting STAB on it as well as spread damage. However, it will also damage Landorus’s partner if they aren’t immune to it. Rock Slide is another great choice for Landorus, as it covers the Flying-types who are immune to Earthquake, as well as having spread damage and a chance to flinch. Explosion may have been nerfed in the 5th generation, but when used in conjunction with Normal Gem and Landorus’s high Attack stat, it can still be a powerful field clearing move. Brick Break or Hammer Arm can be used if you're uncomfortable with Explosion. The choice between the two is one of power vs. accuracy.

    [Additional Comments]

Adamant is the preferred nature, since it significantly adds to Landorus’s Attack stat, and a Jolly nature doesn’t outspeed anything important. Yache Berry can be used to make sure that Ice-type attacks don’t take advantage of Landorus's 4x weakness to it, but the lack of a power boost from Normal Gem makes Explosion much less threatening. Earth Gem can also be used if you find yourself rarely using Explosion. If you don't like Protect, or just need the additional coverage, Explosion as well as a Fighting-type move can be run on Landorus instead of Protect, which in that case is the best option. A partner that's immune or resists earthquake is a must, as damaging your own pokemon is anything but benificial.

    [Set]
    Name: Choice Scarf
    Move 1: Earthquake
    Move 2: Rock Slide
Move 3: Brick Break / Hammer Arm
    Move 4: Explosion
    Item: Choice Scarf
    Nature: Adamant / Jolly
    Ability: Sand Force
    Evs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe

    [Set Comments]

Choice Scarf allows Landorus to no longer be threatened by its genie brethren, Tornadus and Thundurus, by outpacing them and doing a significant chunk of damage with Rock Slide. It's also helpful in removing common Choice Scarf users such as Chandelure, who normally threaten Landorus with Hidden Power Ice. Earthquake and Rock Slide are powerful spread moves that take advantage of Lanodrus's great Attack stat. The choice between Brick Break and Hammer Arm is one between accuracy and raw power. Explosion can be a last minute escape option used in order to clear the field of threats to faster based teams, such as Musharna and Amoonguss. Since you have no opportunities to change moves in order to protect your other pokemon from colatoral damage wiht this set, a pokemon that's immune to earthquake is almost required. Musharna makes a particuarly good partner for this set, as it can use Helping Hand to boost earthquake to insane levels.

    [Additional Comments]

There are few other attacks that can be useful on this Landorus, with the possible exception of U-turn. Good partners for Landorus are ones that are immune to Earthquake or resist it. Pokemon that can easily deal with Trick Room users are also important, as Choice Scarf Landorus can do little damage against most Trick Room teams. Choice Scarf Landorus has a couple of notable advantages over its other sets, which must be kept in mind. One of the most important things is that it can outspeed Terrakion, which, with Beat Up support, can threaten Landorus. It also easily destroys faster-based teams that don't have a way to stop Landorus from ripping through them. However, with the genies being so common, being locked into Earthquake can be a liability, forcing Landorus to switch out.

    [Set]
    Name: Special Landorus
    Move 1: Earth Power
    Move 2: Psychic
Move 3: Hidden Power Ice / Grass Knot
    Move 4: Protect
Item: Life Orb / Yache Berry
    Nature: Modest / Timid
    Ability: Sand Force
    Evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

    [Set Comments]

This Landorus is meant to surprise opponents who believe that this is the standard physical Landorus. Since the majority of Pokemon in VGC 2011 have higher Defense than Special Defense, Landorus hits the majority of them for slightly more damage. Earth Power is obvious STAB, and Landorus needs it in order to function properly. Psychic is for taking out the various Fighting-types that are common in VGC 2011, as well as Amoonguss. Hidden Power Ice allows Landorus to deal damage to Hydreigon, and covers its genie brethren nicely. However, Grass Knot gives coverage, and allows Landorus to cover Jellicent. The choice between Yache Berry and Life Orb is one of safety vs. power, and the choice is heavily dependent on what kind of team Landorus is used on. Focus Blast can be run in the third slot in order to deal with Scrafty, who commonly carry Ice Punch, as well as Hydreigon, but its unreliable accuracy makes it undesirable.

    [Other Options]

If running a sandstorm team, Landorus can be good for setting up sandstorm as well as sweeping in it. Bulk Up and Swords Dance can be useful for boosting Landorus's Attack to amazing levels, but it is risky to set up with Landorus when it's usually a superior option to simply attack the opponent. Fly can be useful if you force the opponent to use Protect on the turn you use Fly, but it is easily countered, and with the popularity of Protect, it is generally not a good idea.

    [Counters]

Thundurus with Hidden Power Ice can both outspeed and kill Landorus if Landorus isn't running Yache Berry. Tornadus's Flying Gem-boosted Acrobatics can outspeed and KO all but bulky sets. Trick Room shuts down most Landorus, as most Trick Room teams can take Landorus's attacks, as well as outpacing them. Amoonguss in particular can be troublesome to Landorus, as it takes little damage from Earthquake and can retaliate with Spore, which has the chance to incapacitate Landorus for up to three turns.

Jolly is probably the best option for Landorus to hit Volcarona first and not be outspeed by Hydreigon and Haxorus. 164 HP/ 252 Atk/ 92 Spe dont seem all that useful and probably should only be mentioned in OC. Yache Berry is a better choice than this as it doesn't have to waste speed EVs.

Also Special Attack is decent enough to work, especially since most Pokemon in the tier have higher Defense than Special Defense.
    timid @ life orb
    ~earth power
    ~psychic
    ~grass knot/ focus blast / hp ice
    ~protect
this set works very well at taking out fighting / rock / water pokemon that might otherwise wall it (scrafty with ice punch, hydreigon without hammer arm's speed drop, etc)

edit: outrage on a scarf set isn't worth it, as it is only worth using against a dragon type and the target is unpredictable.

Volcarona shouldn't be threatening to Landorus, as it rarely runs Hp ice. (never?) Hydreigon can hurt him, but Landorus can only 2HKO it with a Jolly nature, so he'll still take a hit. Haxorus also can't really threaten Landorus, and most run an Adamant nature. Landorus should really be used to abuse STAB earthquake, and I feel that a special set really isn't worth it. If a QC member says otherwise, then I'll add it in, but for now, I'm not mentioning it in the analysis.

I got worked pretty hard by reachzero's special Landorus. It's most definitely worth a look.

idk about the special set, but atleast mention it in oo

Outrage should definitely not be mentioned there at all.

I'm not really seeing the usefulness of the bulky set, could you post some damage calcs showing some specific moves this is intended to take, along with a rundown of what it gives up outspeeding.

The convention is to list protect last, so change up the order of attacks in the first set.

Brick Break needs to be mentioned in OO, that speed drop can be painful.

STAB Heat Wave hits plenty hard, it doesn't take a 4x hidden power to threaten a mon.

A fighting attack should be slashed in on the first set either with Protect or Explosion, if you slash it with Explosion slash another item in also (maybe sash? or earth gem?)

Made some minor suggested changes like no more outrage. I actually forgot that Landorus had Brick Break, all added now. Will most likely edit in a Special set tomorrow. As for the bulky set, I don't have damage calcs for it, and I'd apreciate it if someone could give me a link to where I can get one.

Here's a damage calculator for you. You'll have to use the Japanese names (Randorosu, Rankurusu, and so on), though.

Also, Tornadus's Flight Jewel Acrobatics only has a 13.5% chance to KO 4 HP Landorus; sure, it'll leave it at like 5% HP, but it's probably not going to KO.

Musharna should be mentioned as a partner not just for Earthquake, but for Explosion as well, because Helping Hand Explosion OHKOs everything that doesn't resist it except for very physically bulky Musharna, which are still KOed 50% of the time. It can also help against Trick Room teams, OHKOing both members on the first turn if neither use Protect.

Tested the bulky set on the damage calculator that cosmicexplorer provided, and I wasn't very impressed. While it does turn important 2HKOs into 3HKOs, like Chandalures heat wave and Haxorus' Dragon Claw, it's pretty meh otherwise. I'll replace the Bulky set with the special set that muffinhead provided in a second.

Mention that you don't have to run protect, and can opt for both Explosion and a fighting move on the first set, also I'm not sure yache is the best option there, sash or life orb might be better. Finally, you need to add more meat to the Choice Scarf set. Talk about why you would want to use it over a scarfless one, and go into more depth on partners. Other than that QC Approved 1/2

I've run special Landorus for a bit, and I think the set that is up now summarizes it quite nicely. Landorus needs Modest nature or a boosting item (Life Orb) to OHKO Terrakion with Earth Power. While Hidden Power Ice is the more useful move for Landorus since it allows it to combat Hydreigon (which is immune to both Earth Power and Psychic), Grass Knot is a suitable alternative.

For the Scarf Set might I'd consider using U-turn over the two fighting moves listed, allowing it to serve a scouting role.

A scouting role doesn't really work in doubles since it's so hard to force a switch to scout.

EDIT: A little thing, Choice Scarf should always be capatilized and raw power should not.

Also, you should mention the liability of scarf Landorus with all the genies around, and possibly running something that can switch in well. You should also mention what you would want to explode on, Musharna and Amoongus are good examples since you can't hurt them as well with your other attacks, and especially it can be useful to explode on the pairing of the two, to get past follow me and possibly stop TR.

    This sentence:
About Hammer Arm / Brick Break vs. Explosion doesn't really capture the essence of the difference between the two moves. Explosion is a powerful spread move, while Hammer Arm and Brick Break are just if you don't want to kill yourself. It should probably be changed to something like "Explosion allows Landorus to provide a very powerful spread move if at low health, but if Landorus KOing itself is unfavorable, Brick Break or Hammer Arm are viable alternatives." This is just a suggestion, but I think it really expresses the difference between the two moves much better.

Landorus enjoys being in Tailwind, as it boosts its Landorus's Speed to insane levels. Eelektross and Thundurus make great offensive partners, being immune to Landorus's Earthquake as well as being able to utilize a powerful STAB Discharge without damaging Landorus. Most importantly, however, is that Landorus's partner must be immune to or has a resistance resistant to Earthquake, or else you face the risk of killing your own teammate. It's also helpful to have a partner that's resistant to Ice-type attacks, so Landorus isn't heavily troubled by Blizzard users, forcing them to risk not dealing enough damage to your partner.

Team Options should be dissolved and added into Additional Comments, which the Special set is strangely lacking. Also, Counters should be Checks and Counters. Just some nitpicks since these things have been updated since this was written.

I agree with lucariojr, a set of Imprison / Rock Slide / Explosion / Protect could be put in OO. This set mainly stops Rock Slide spammers and helps if your teammate is a Fire- or Flying-type, and you can go boom (as long as there are not Ghost-types), and not worry about Protect. Also you haven't made the changes I mentioned a while back (included at the bottom), as the format needs to be updated to reflect the current standard.
