Landorus-T [QC 2/3]

[OVERVIEW]
  • great typing w/ intimidate lets it wall a myriad of threats
  • access to slow u-turn is a momentum giver, or scarf u-turn to keep offensive teams in check
  • powerful 145 attack makes it no slouch either
  • one of the premier rocks setter in the tier rn
  • beating exca + zardx is very useful niche over chomper
  • ice weakness is kind of ass
  • still competition with chomper mainly due to its access to fire blast and rocky helmet + rough skin
  • hippo + chomper also beat bish because lando-t give sit +1 with intimdate
  • free switchin to most waters
  • scarf cant check the things as much as it wants so speed will always be an issue
  • wide movepool adds to its versatility
Landorus-T establishes itself as one of the strongest Stealth Rock users in the tier due its great typing, access to U-turn, and Intimidate. This allows it to check some of OU's biggest threats such as Mega Lopunny, Excadrill, Mega Charizard X, and Tyranitar. Its wide movepool consisting of Swords Dance, Smack Down, Knock Off, and Rock Polish also makes it a threat from many different viewpoints. However, Landorus-T will also find itself having competition with Hippowdown and Garchomp in which the former can utilize Sand Stream and its superior bulk and typing, while the latter can spread passive chip damage through Rough Skin + Rocky Helmet. Landorus-T packs a weakness to Ice- and Water-type moves meaning it cannot set up Stealth Rock without inviting Kyurem-B, Slowbro, and Keldeo for example.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========
  • Earthquake is main STAB and it lets you threaten 'mons such as Heatran and Excadrill
  • Stealth Rock is the best move in the game and Landorus-T is an excellent user due to its good typing
  • U-turn with Landorus-T to seek momentum o.o
  • Stone Edge hits flyings while being able to ohko m-pins 100% of the time which rock slide cannot do
  • Toxic can cripple Rotom-W, Hippowdon, Garchomp, prevent Bulk Up-Wisp Talonflame from beating you
  • Swords Dance > U-turn because it can threaten bulkier teams and beat defensive starmie on the switch 1v1 assuming no burn
  • Knock Off is an option to knock off Shed Shells, Leftovers, Eviolites, Smooth Rocks, etc. but losing to birds sucks
Set Details
========
  • rocky helmet is great for spreading chip damage on lopunny for example, making it easier for offensive teams to chip with priority
  • leftovers is the superior option on more defensive teams due to it having great longevity
  • 8sdef to live manec's hp ice all the time from full
  • 4 speed outpaces jolly azu
  • max hp and max def with impish to buff its defensive potential as much as possible
Usage Tips
========
  • use this to set up rocks on things like excadrill, zardx, lopunny, and klefki
  • click earthquake to kill threatening 'mons like +1 excadrill and pup lopunny / dish off chip damage
  • u-turn for momentum, gets the slow u-turn which is nice
  • sd should be used to break bulkier mons
  • knock off should be used to knock off annoying items such as leftovers eviolite shed shell rocky helmet life orb etc and hit psychics
Team Options
========
  • latios because it can switch into a lot of waters
  • ferrothorn to complete the hazard core + resists water and takes on cube somewhat comfortably, klefki for the more offensive hazard stacking teams
  • volcanion, kyurem-b, mega medicham, and thundurus are great teammates because they like the free u-turn to get their powerful attacks off
  • tyranitar because it tends to force in starmie and latis which it can trap then garuntee hazards on the other side of the floor
  • mega manectric to complete volturn, likes toxic lando-t specifically because it lures and nails hippo
  • dragalge because it beats waters while getting tspikes
  • clefable cuz it is good as hell and lando-t takes one exca and resists poison
  • keldeo because landot cant check bish unlike hippo and chomper

[SET]
name: Choice Scarf
move 1: Earthquake
move 2: U-turn
move 3: Stone Edge
move 4: Knock Off / Superpower
item: Choice Scarf
ability: Intimidate
nature: Jolly
evs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========
  • Earthquake can sweep teams
  • Scarf + U-turn = $
  • Stone Edge beast Flying-types and it can't afford Rock Slide because this set needs power since it can't tank Outrage into Extreme Speed from Dragonite for example
  • Knock Off cripples defensive 'mons like skarm + ferro while ohkoing lati which uturn cannot,, + hits gengar
  • Superpower nails Air Balloon Excadrill and Mega Gyarados
  • Hidden Power [Ice] is a cute way to lure opposing Landorus-T and Garchomp
  • Explosion to go out with a bang / if you can't kill it with Earthquake and it is dangerous enough to sweep your team

Set Details
========
  • max attack provides enough power to revenge kill threats
  • jolly is needed in order to outpace m-gyarados and dnite at +1 for example
  • choice scarf is the reason why this set is a great momentum grabber and revenge killer
  • jolly also lets u outpace m-zam + m-aero

Usage Tips
========
  • abuse uturn weak mons and mons low on health. its coverage lets it force out mons and get a fast uturn off
  • use it to check zardx, exca, but beware switching it directly in because it bulk is still mediocre even with the intimidate
  • its a good lead due to ppl liking torn-t these days
  • careful of locking urself into a bad move
Team Options
========
  • wallbreakers like cube, thundy, volc, mhera, mgard, lo torn, and drag like said
  • this set doesn't have rocks so a secondary rocker is needed. heatran can beat clef, garchomp can use sd and get up rocks simultaneously weakening landorus-t's checks
  • mega mane and rotom-w create volt turn
  • spikes are really good because lots of its checks are grounded, klefki in particular because it has use on offensive teams, lead skarm if taking ho path
  • clefable cuz it resists poison and takes on exca
  • magnezone to create volturn + trap those pesky steels, will mandate things to deal with grounds though

[SET]
name: Double Dance
move 1: Earthquake
move 2: Stone Edge
move 3: Swords Dance
move 4: Rock Polish
item: Earth Plate / Lum Berry
ability: Intimidate
nature: Adamant
evs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========
  • Earthquake is main sweeping move
  • Stone Edge hits hard af and perfects edgequake combo
  • SD for defensive teams
  • RP for faster teams

Set Details
========
  • max attack with adamant to hit hard as possible at +2, dismantling defensive builds
  • max speed in order to outpace key threats like adamant excadrill and bisharp for example
  • earth plate lets you net certain ohkoes, most notably on tankchomp and slowbro after stealth rock more than 50% of the time
  • lum berry lets you escape toxic and burns, which is useful against status reliant stall teams for example. it lets you set up on non-foul play sableye for example as well
  • yache berry is an option to check electrics and escape weavile's ice shard
  • leftovers with a bulkier spread can be more clutch against bulky offense but the lack of immediate power hurts
  • focus sash for stunting on ice types and other annoying leads that want to prevent u from getting rocks

Usage Tips
========
  • use this to break defensive teams when a teammate can abuse the breaking ti provides
  • or use this to clean late game
  • pretty much a done deal if u get both boosts though unless shard or banded azu is on opposing teams
  • lum berry lets you set up on sab for example but be careful because quagsire walls this set still
  • earth plate can give you better matchup against stall but is recommended u set up on chansey for example bluffing knock off or rocks to force sab in

Team Options
========
  • lopunny, sceptile, aerodactyl, sd m-scizor, scarf kyu-b, zams appreciate the wallbreaking it provides
  • on the contrary, m hera and m medi break for landorus-t's counters for it to sweep with rock polish
  • clefable
  • magnezone traps skarmory and ferro which can be annoyances
[SET]
name: Offensive
move 1: Earthquake
move 2: Stone Edge
move 3: Swords Dance / U-turn / Knock Off
move 4: Stealth Rock
item: Lum Berry / Earth Plate
ability: Intimidate
nature: Adamant / Jolly
evs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe

Moves
========
  • earthquake is basic stab
  • stone edge completes coverage
  • sd boosts attacks to ridiculous levels
  • with sd in the back, it can force some switches allowing it to get up rocks
  • smack down is an option if you can't afford sd'ing every time and if rotom-w decides to come in, so nice over stone edge
  • u turn is an option over swords dance if you prefer and offensive pivot, if taking this path, earth plate is pretty much neccesary to make up for power. smack down is also a much more valid option on uturn sets too
  • knock off can remove items in that slot too, again smack down becomes a great option over edge if u opt out sd for that move
  • explosion to weaken the shit outta rotom for bird teams
Set Details
========
  • lum berry to shrug off status and gets rocks up on sableye by forcing it out after clicking swords dance
  • earth plate allows you to crush quagsire for example if holding adamant nature
  • a jolly nature is an option to outpace things like jolly exca and mild kyurem-b
  • yache is cool for electrics if you have a few checks to them
  • sitrus lets you check excas and zardx more than once
  • passho can set up on waters assuming no burn, also beats starmie 1v1 if no ice beam
  • max attack is mandatory to break bulkier teams, same with max speed so you aren't deadweight against the faster ones packing hp ice tran for example
Usage Tips
========
  • set up sds as things like sableye come in, then click rocks as they switch out into skarm or quagsire to get rocks
  • this struggles to consistently check exca, lopunny, and zardx so use it conservatively
  • click sd to break past things like hippowdon
  • the difference between needing rocks or breaking a team with sd is your choice, whichever benefits the win condition in the long term
Team Options
========
  • lopunny likes this wearing bulky grounds with its power like hippo, opposing lando-t, and chomper
  • zardx also appreciates this
  • breloom can beat bulky waters, but watch out for ice weakness
  • klefki is a great offensive stacking partner
  • gengar forms a 2 pack punch to combat bulkier offenses, it can also utilize icy wind to lure grounds and tornadus-t
  • latios takes on keldeo and drops dracos on waters lando-t struggles with
  • keldeo takes on common ice types
  • tyranitar to trap latis, starmie to ensure rocks go up
  • mega mane and raikou like grounds weakened

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
  • mixed life orb rocks to lure things using hp ice grass knot sludge wave extrasensory hp fire etc. with strong stab eq
  • normal gem explosion has niche on bird spam teams
  • offensive rocker lando-t but lacks bulk to do its job (will give heavy oo mention since qc prefers this)
  • lead sash
  • imprison to stop opposing rockers such as hippowdon, landorus-t, garchomp, chansey,...
  • smack down / gravity
  • offensive sd lando-t with rocks but isn't worth it at most times because it loses it ability to check zardx, exca, for example. sd rocks is better on a defensive set so it can have so offenisve presence
  • passho berry for offensive sets to stunt on waters
Checks and Counters
===================

**Water-types**: Landorus-T cannot threaten most of them while they can force it out with their Water STAB. Keldeo, Slowbro, Rotom-W, and Manaphy are prime examples.

**Ice-types**: Weavile, Mamoswine, and Kyurem-B can eliminate Landorus-T with their powerful Ice STAB and the former two can pick off faster sets with their priority Ice Shard. It is important to note many cannot switch in without being either eliminated by U-turn or taking 25% from Stealth Rock.

**Bulky Ground-types**: Opposing Landorus-T, Hippowdon, and Gliscor can come in and set up Stealth Rock freely. However, they can easily be taken care of with Swords Dance or crippled by Toxic.

**Grass-types**: Most Grass-types such as Tangrowth, Chesnaught, and Mega Venusaur can force out Landorus-T without Swords Dance due to their typing and strong Grass STAB moves.

**Bulky Steel-types**: Skarmory can remove hazards, wall it, and can even beat Swords Dance sets by phazing it out with Whirlwind or killing it with Counter. Ferrothorn can wear Landorus-T down faster than it can do to Ferrothorn. Bulky Mega Scizor can also set up on Landorus-T without Swords Dance.

**Faster Revenge Killers**: Pokemon with Ice-type coverage in general can be a pain for non Choice Scarf sets. Raikou, Gengar, Tornadus-T, and Mega Manectric are great examples, but they will have to be wary of a stray Yache Berry. Mega Latias can not only outpace Landorus-T and kill it with Ice Beam, but it also has the necessary bulk to tank Knock Off from Choice Scarf Landorus-T.

**Strong Special Wallbreakers**: While Landorus-T has great physical defense, it has a middling Special Defense making it vulnerable against Mega Charizard Y, Latios, Serperior, and Hydreigon despite it having a neutrality to their STAB moves.

I recognize that this is still a WIP, but I would mention Swords Dance as a possibility on the defensive set. Even without investment, Landorus-T still hits hard enough to catch opponents off-guard with Swords Dance. For example, at +2, it cleanly 2HKOs Ferrothorn with Earthquake and does over 80% to Magic Guard Clefable with Earthquake most of the time. Most of the time it goes in place of U-turn which, although is a pretty big sacrifice to make, sees use on a small handful of teams.

0 Atk Landorus-T Rock Slide vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Mega Pinsir: 256-304 (94.4 - 112.1%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO
0 Atk Landorus-T Stone Edge vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Mega Pinsir: 340-400 (125.4 - 147.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

On the defensive set, I'd mention Stone Edge for this situation.

On the Double Dance, I also think Passho Berry is a cool addition, as it prevents things like CB Azumarill from revenge killing you if LandoT was weakened. Life Orb is also cool to break through stuff like Quagsire better.

252+ Atk Choice Band Huge Power Azumarill Aqua Jet vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Landorus-T: 260-308 (81.5 - 96.5%) -- 56.3% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
252+ Atk Choice Band Huge Power Azumarill Aqua Jet vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Passho Berry Landorus-T: 130-154 (40.7 - 48.2%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

252+ Atk Earth Plate Landorus-T Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Unaware Quagsire: 186-220 (47.2 - 55.8%) -- 78.5% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Life Orb Landorus-T Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Unaware Quagsire: 203-239 (51.5 - 60.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

+2 252+ Atk Landorus-T Stone Edge vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Rotom-W: 178-210 (58.7 - 69.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
+2 252+ Atk Life Orb Landorus-T Stone Edge vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Rotom-W: 231-273 (76.2 - 90%) -- 18.8% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

You said on the Defensive spread that the 8 Spe is for outspeeding Rotom-w. Unfortunately, I think that's Speed creeping since it isn't a max or min speed benchmark, which isn't allowed in these. Also, Rotom-W's analysis doesn't even list 44 Spe anymore, so you don't even need the 8 EVs to outrun it. You can mention 4 Spe to outrun Jolly max Azumarill, since that's an actual benchmark, but it's a silly one since it'll just Aqua Jet you anyway. I think the best course of action is to just put the 8 spare EVs into SpD or Atk and call it a day on the official spread, and maybe mention others in the comments. I'm not sure if mentioning other sets popular spreads is sanctioned there, or if that still follows Speed creep rules.

Another contested issue is that Volcanion are often running 176 Spe to reach 220 and outrun this 8 Spe Landorus-T, which is outrunning Rotom-W, which is outrunning an unused Azumarill spread. That highly contested 218-220 range is another reason I'd just put the spare EVs in Atk or SpD, and just make a mention like "you can run more Speed if desired to outrun certain threats in the 218 Speed range". Again, I don't know if that's Speed Creep, but I know mentioning the 8 Spe for 44 Spe Rotom-W is.

Banned deucer.
overview
did some stuff get lost in limbo? 4 bullets is very lacking ,_,
what threats does its typing and ability allow it to take on?
mention competition from other ground types, garchomp is faster, has a usable secondary stab and can check bisharp better defensively while hippo is fatter, has slack and phazing, and is also only 2x weak to ice making it a better electric check

defensive:
moves:
swords dance should be slashed with uturn, its really good and stops lando from being so passive against stuff like scizor, ferro, and hippo
stone edge > rock slide

set details
do the thing that was mentioned above, 4 speed for jolly azumarill

usage tips
say something about sd'ing against sciz/ferro/hippo to pressure them so that they cannot beat lando 1v1

choice scarf
set details
jolly also ensures lando-t outpaces megazam, include that

usage tips

give a mention of knocking off stuff from the likes of skarm and ferro
guess you can throw in a mention of booming if lando is weak and it can pick off something annoying like slowbro or rotom-w

team options
where is magnezone

double dance
honestly, i would just rename this to offensive and slash stealth rock alongside rock polish, the sets aren't too drastically different and offensive rocks needs a mention somewhere

set details and all that look fine, beef up team options a little

oo
add passho berry to other options

c&c
add stuff like slowbro and quag into water types, they can handle most variants but sd eplate blows them back and toxic can cripple them

add tangrowth to grass types over chesnaught

mention some faster revenge killers, scarfers, and stuff that can run ice coverage like electric / torn-t / gengar

change skarmory to bulky ground immune mons and include mega latias too

overall good stuff, remember to beef up the overview

I'll wait to give my check til yours is implemented p2, but I really think Double Dance is its own set.

Offensive SR set should not be OO - it's a good set even if the metagame doesn't favor it as much right now. Remember 6-8 months ago when that was the "good" Lando set? Yeah and now Garchomp's Rocky Helmet set is a lot less popular. These things come and go, it's not like we should omit the offensive SR set just because most teams mandate a more defensive Lando these days. I'm sure things will cycle back around at some point to where it's more relevant and then we're gonna have to write up the set anyway.

Overview
  • I don't think things like "best rock setter in the tier right now" should be in here given the fluid nature of viability. Just say it's a strong one
  • Mention that it has a wide movepool somewhere, because that's a big part of its versatility.

Set: Defensive

Moves

  • Swords Dance should be mentioned before Knock Off given that Knock Off isn't actually listed in the moveset.

Set Details
  • Make it 8 Special Defense EVs to always live Mega Manectric's HP Ice from full HP

Usage Tips
  • Remove the mention of Rock Slide for Stone Edge.
  • Mention that Lando-T is used as primary switch-in for many mons and that's one of the most common ways it is brought in.
  • When to U-turn vs Stealth Rock - momentum or hazards can be a key choice at certain points in battle
  • What times to use SD or Toxic, as well as Knock Off
  • Need to talk about the fact that a lot of teams aim to overload Lando-T and so sometimes you make mid-plays and conserve it for certain threats instead of switching into their Lopunny if they also have an Excadrill
Team Options
  • Elaborate on Latios by mentioning specific things it checks, plus Zard Y
  • Elaborate on type synergy Ferrothorn offers
  • Elaborate on Clefable lol
  • Keldeo for beating Bisharp, Weavile and opposing bulky grounds
Set: Choice Scarf

Moves

  • Mention that Knock Off hits stuff like Gengar and guarantees the OHKO Mega Zam and can OHKO Latios after Rocks unlike U-turn
Usage Tips
  • It's a good lead because it outspeeds common Tornadus-T leads and can U-turn out of most threats. Can also Boom on Rotom-W leads if that's ideal for you
  • This section really needs to be more fleshed out in general
    • Isn't nearly as good of a switch-in to most threats particularly Excadrill and Charizard X
    • State its role more clearly: revenge killer / offensive pivot
    • Careful of being choice locked into an unfavorable move (depending on what your opponent has) - this is why U-turn is used a lot.
    • Also beware of chip damage from Rocky Helmets etc on Uturn
Team Options
  • Keldeo needs to be in partners section for pretty much all Lando-T sets to be honest, for reasons already stated
  • Elaborate on Clefable
Set: Double Dance

Set Details

  • Provide the alternate bulkier spread and explain its use (Excadrill I believe)
Usage Tips
  • Eliminate Skarmory before attempting to sweep since it can phaze you out, unless your goal is to win last mon vs non-counter Skarm in which case you can set up on it.
    • Scout for Whirlwind on Hippo as well because phazing ruins this
  • Don't switch this into a lot of things since you want to remain healthy
    • Save for late-game
  • Choice Scarf bluffs when necessary - since the opponent will see another Stealth Rock setter on your team, a fast cleaner makes sense in this slot so you can bluff Scarf sometimes
  • Sets up on opposing Landorus-T which is one of its own best switch-ins
Team Options
  • Keldeo. Latios/Latias is also a mon that should be listed as a partner for all sets
  • Elaborate on M Scizor since it beats Weavile and Azumarill (mostly) which are the main priority users preventing a sweep. Bisharp too.
  • Volt-Turn mons like Rotom-W and Tornadus-T to give free setup opportunities etc
  • Jirachi or Latias for Healing Wish / checking faster threats
Set: Offensive

Moves

  • Slash U-turn after Swords Dance and Knock Off after Stone Edge
    • Offensive Pivot U-turn is still really nice and you still have the power to immediately threaten mons on offense so SD isn't always needed
    • Knock Off lures in Skarm same as always and hits pretty hard against other potential switch-ins
  • Smack Down as an option would be over Stone Edge, not SD so make this clear please
  • Explosion
Set Details
  • Mention that you can run a little bit of bulk to try and be a one time check to stuff like Talon / Exca and switch into non-Ice Punch Medicham
  • If mentioning Sitrus then I think Focus Sash can go here
Usage Tips
  • Conglomerate the points on when to SD
  • When to U-turn vs when to Stealth Rock as with the first set, guess you touch on this with the SD vs Rocks point but elaborate more
  • Less of a switch-in to stuff so bring it in moreso on resisted attacks or free switches, it's also a decent lead
Other Options
  • Remove mentions of offensive rocks since this got a set, you can mention the downsides of the set in usage tips. Lead Sash kinda falls under the offensive rocks set as well
Checks and Counters
  • Make a thing for bulky steels which includes Ferrothorn and Mega Scizor. Skarmory should of course be singled out as the biggest problem of the bunch but doesn't need its own header.
  • Yeah I'd consider elaborating on the Grass-types with Amoong/Mega Venu and leaving Ferro for steels.
  • Strong breakers - Zard Y, Latios, etc and mention this is for non Scarf sets
