[Set Comments]

Using Dragon Dance on something like Latios may seem silly at first, considering that Latios only has a modest base 90 Attack stat, but Latios can actually use Dragon Dance's Speed boost to deadly effect. After one Dragon Dance, Latioshits 523 Speed, allowing him to outspeed and KO all of his normal revenge killers
Darkrai, Mewtwo, common Choice Scarf users such as Dialga, Palkia, Kyogre, and Garchomp, and the standard Kingdra in the rainbefore going on to smash through the rest of the opponent's team. With Latios's great bulk, resistances to Grass-, Water-, Fire-, Electric-, and Fighting-type attacks, and an immunity to Ground-type attacks, he isn't short on opportunities to switch in and grab a boost.

Dragon Pulse, backed by STAB and Soul Dew, will score an OHKO or a 2HKO on anything that isn't Blissey or a Steel-type. Thunder OHKOes Kyogre, Lugia, Ho-Oh, and Manaphy after they have taken Stealth Rock damage. It also 2HKOes most Steel-types, including Scizor, Metagross, Heatran, and Forretress. Hidden Power Fire allows Latios to fry Scizor and Forretress, while 2HKOing any Steel-type not named Heatran or specially defensive Jirachi in the sunlight. Grass Knot is also a viable option over Thunder, as with it, Latios will OHKO Groudon and Kyogre after Stealth Rock damage. It also 2HKOes any Tyranitar variant. However, using Grass Knot means that you lose coverage against Steel-types in the rain, so only use it if your team is centered around sunlight.

[Additional Comments]

There are several other somewhat viable moves that Latios can run on this set. Recover allows Latios to live longer, and after a second Dragon Dance, Latios will outspeed everything in the game aside from Choice Scarf Deoxys-S. However, since Latios is not using Calm Mind to boost his Special Attack, heneeds the type coverage provided by using three attacks. Surf can be used over Hidden Power Fire if using a rain-centric team. Heatran is always OHKOed by Surf, while Tyranitar and most other Steel-types will be 2HKOed. Dropping Hidden power Fire also means that Latios does not have to lower his Speed IV. Thunder will usually do enough damage to Steel-types, though, and running Hidden Power Fire means that Latios will not lose coverage on Steel-type Pokemon in the sunlight. Draco Meteor can be used to muscle past Pokemon that Dragon Pulse may not fell in one shot, such as Dialga and defensive Groudon, but the Special Attack drop will force Latios to switch out. Outrage can also be used to 2HKO Blissey after a Dragon Dance, assuming Stealth Rock is up. If you do opt for Outrage, it should be used alongside a Hasty nature. Latios becomes vulnerable to being revenge killed after locking himself into Outrage, so it should only be used as an absolute last resort to KO the fat pink blob.

This set works best with entry hazard support in the form of Stealth Rock and Spikes to achieve important KOs. Stealth Rock and Spikes can both be set up by Deoxys and Forretress. Froslass is also a good user of Spikes, while Dialga and Groudon can set up Stealth Rock reliably.

Latios has a hard time with Blissey, who can take all of Latios's special attacks with ease and cripplehim with Toxic or Thunder Wave. Tyranitar hates Grass Knot and Surf, but can come in on anything else and eat Latios withhis STAB Crunch. Defensive Jirachi cansurviveHidden Power Fire in the sunlight and paralyze Latios with Thunder Wave. Defensive Dialga is a slight issue as well, as Latios cannot OHKO it with Dragon Pulse, despite that he can't be OHKOed back. Wobbuffet can handle a Dragon Pulse and KO Latios with Mirror Coat. Finally, Scarf Mewtwo and Darkrai pose problems for Latios. Although neither can OHKO him, they both outspeed Latios after a Dragon Dance boost and steal his Soul Dew with Trick, thus neutering his offensive power. Scizor is a great partner for this Latios setas a response to Blissey, Tyranitar, and Choice Scarf Mewtwo and Darkrai.
Scizor also lures in Fire-type attacks that Latios can easily set up on. Tickle Wobbuffet can trap Blissey and proceed to Tickle away her Defense stat, enabling a follow-up Pursuit OHKO. Groudon is the epitome of a Tyranitar counter thanks to itshuge Defense stat and STAB Earthquake. It can also switch in on defensive Jirachi with impunity and provide the sunlight that Latios's Hidden Power Fire so desperately needs. Mixed attackers are great to pair with Latios as they make great lures for his counters. Dialga, in particular, fills this role admirably by using an Expert Belt to feign a Choice item. Latios also covers both of Dialga's weaknesses, meaning that he can come in and Dragon Dance once Dialga has removed Latios's primary counter.

Yeah, this set's pretty good, I've seen it being used (This set was used by Legends Never Die like ages ago). Just one suggestion: I reckon Surf is a reasonable slash over Hidden Power Fire. Mention that Grass Knot/HP Fire are best used if you're planning on using it in the sun, and Thunder/Surf in the rain.

EDIT: I don't about everyone else, but I feel this set is probably more appropriately named "Speed Boosting sweeper", since Dragon Dance's whole point is Speed.

TBH I prefer to use Thunder/HP Fire because it means you have a way to hit Steel-types in both weathers, which is important on teams that run both Groudon and Kyogre. I will mention it in the set comments since it totally owns Heatran, but I'm not going to slash it.

I will mention that Grass Knot is best used in a sun-centric team however. Thanks for your input.

ive seen this set in effect and its analysis worthy imo. also just an idea but could a mixed set be viable at all? ive done absolutely no testing on it just throwing out the idea.

Yeah I have seen this in action, and Latios with a Speed boost can be pretty deadly in the right hands! I think you should mention Draco Meteor in set comments though. while its hard to fit into the set, its pretty handy for the times Dragon Pulse wont KO a mon.

-Speed EVs enable Latios to outpace Garchomp preDD and Deoxys-S postDD. You can run max Speed to tie with other Latios that run Hidden Power Fire if you want however.
I think that running enough Speed to outrun Deoxys-S is a waste. Yes there is the Trickscarf set, but it is really rare and outspeeds you reguardless, and otherwise Deo-S isn't touching you. I think 64/252/192 should at least be mentioned as another spread in Additional comments.

edit:
-Groudon is a good partner in general since it hard counters Blissey, Scizor, Tyranitar, and Jirachi. It can come in on all of them for a free Rock Polish boost. A defensively minded Groudon can also counter physical Rayquaza sets as well as defensive Dialga quite well.
Be careful...Blissey can Toxic, Scizor can U-turn to a counter, TTar can Ice Beam, and Jirachi can Body Slam.

List of things Latios outspeeds at +1 with current EVs:

518 Kabutops, Shiftry 80 Neutral +2 252 506 Mew 100 Neutral +2 68 504 Deoxys-S 180 +Speed None 252 500 Groudon 90 Neutral +2 136 500 Kingdra 85 Neutral +2 176 499 Garchomp 102 +Speed +1 252
Of course, discount BP Mew and RP Groudon, but there are quite a few notable things to outspeed there. You can get the jump on some of the slower Kingdras running around as well, so it can't just come in for the revenge when its rainy.

Oh, and Fireburn, just a quick nitpick:

-Latios can easily take advantage of the Speed boost Dragon Dance provides; with one boost, it reaches 525 Speed
With Hidden Power Fire, it reaches 523 Speed due to the imperfect IV.

with shrang mentioning the imperfect iv aspect, i would possibly consider slashing in surf with HP fire. Its overall better in the rain and still does a ton to steels plus doesn't come at the cost of being outsped by Lati@s,Gengar, Lugia preDD.

However, this means you lose coverage on against Steel-types in the rain, so only use Grass Knot if your team is centered around sunlight.

The EV spread is pretty basic. The Special Attack EVs are maxed out to provide as much sweeping power as needed, and the Speed EVs are needed to outspeed the threats mentioned in the first paragraph after a Dragon Dance. It also allows Latios to tie with other Latios that run Hidden Power Fire.(if you wanted to, you could probably delete this entire paragraph)

[Additional Comments]

There are several other somewhat viable, if not slightly lesser, moves that Latios can run on this set. Recover allows Latios to live longer, and possibly allow him to get in a second Dragon Dance, which will allow lets Latios to outspeed everything in the game aside from Choice Scarf Deoxys-S. However, since Latios is not using Calm Mind to boost his Special Attack, he will more often than not need to the extra type coverage provided by using three attacks to sweep to the best of his ability. Surf can be used over Hidden Power Fire if using a rain-centric team. Heatran is always OHKOed by Surf, and Tyranitar and most other Steel-types will be 2HKOed. Dropping Hidden power Fire also means that Latios does not have to lower his Speed IV. However, Thunder will usually do enough damage to Steel-types, and running Hidden Power Fire means that Latios will not lose coverage on Steel-type Pokemon in the sunlight. Draco Meteor can be used to muscle past Pokemon that Dragon Pulse may not fell in one shot, such as Dialga and defensive Groudon. However, the Special Attack drop means that Latios will usually have to switch out immediately upon use, which can give your opponent a free turn to set up a sweep of their own. (Keep in mind that Draco Meteor should never be used over Dragon Pulse as Latios really needs the consistent damage to sweep). Outrage can also be used to 2HKO Blissey after a Dragon Dance, assuming Stealth Rock is up. If you do opt for Outrage, it should be used alongside a Hasty nature. After a Dragon Dance boost, Outrage will always 2HKO Blissey assuming Stealth Rock is up. However, Latios will become incredibly vulnerable to being revenge killed after locking himself into Outrage, so it should only be used as an absolute last resort to KO the fat pink blob.

This set works best with entry hazard support in the form Stealth Rock and Spikes to grab some important KOes and weaken bulkier targets such as Dialga. Stealth Rock and Spikes can both be set up by Deoxys and Forretress. Froslass is also a good user of Spikes, while Dialga and Groudon can set up Stealth Rock reliably.

Latios has a hard time with Blissey, who can devour take all of Latios' special attacks with ease, like they were Double Downs from KFC(...) and cripple Latios with Toxic or Thunder Wave. Tyranitar hates Grass Knot and Surf, but can come in on anything else and eat Latios with its STAB Crunch. Defensive Jirachi can handle even Hidden Power Fire in the sunlight, and paralyze Latios with Thunder Wave. Defensive Dialga is a slight issue as well, as Latios cannot OHKO it with Dragon Pulse, while Dialga can OHKO back with Draco Meteor or Outrage. Wobbuffet can handle a Dragon Pulse and KO Latios with Mirror Coat. Finally, Scarf Mewtwo and Darkrai pose problems for Latios. Although neither can OHKO him, they both outspeed Latios after a Dragon Dance boost and can steal his Soul Dew with Trick, which will neuter Latios' offensive power. Scizor is a great partner for this Latios set. It counters Blissey well, checks Tyranitar with Bullet Punch, and can deal with Scarf Mewtwo/Darkrai with ease. Tickle Wobbuffet is also a superb partner. It can switch in on Blissey to trap her, and proceed to Tickle away her Defense stat into absolute rubbish(I would consider changing the wording on this...). Afterwards, you can bring a user of Pursuit, such as the aforementioned Scizor, to KO Blissey for free as she tries to flee. Scizor also lures in Fire-type attacks that Latios can easily set up on. Groudon is the epitome of a Tyranitar counter thanks to its huge Defense stat and STAB Earthquake. It can also switch in on defensive Jirachi with impunity, and Groudon's sunlight also provides the boost necessary for Hidden Power Fire to 2HKO the Steel-types that would otherwise plague Latios. Mixed attackers are great to pair with Latios as they make great lures for Latios' his counters. Dialga is the best choice for this role. It can use an Expert Belt to feign a Choice item, which will oftentimes draw in Blissey, Jirachi, and Wobbuffet, only for the lot of them to be KOed by another surprise attack: Outrage/Brick Break for Blissey, Fire Blast for Jirachi, and a mix of physical and special attacks for Wobbuffet. Latios also resists both of Dialga's weaknesses, meaning that he can come in and Dragon Dance once Dialga has removed the counter.

Good analysis, but you forgot that Blissey was a she and Latios was a he :P.

I've faced a couple of substitute latios and I'm wondering what are the main advantages of dragon dance over sub when you consider so many of sub's benefits?

Okay, so I chopped and hacked out a ton of fluff from this. Notice how this set is abnormally long (like most Uber analyses)? Well, many of my suggestions attempt to condense it down without sacrificing important information. A lot of the explanations for "how X teammate can check Y threat to DDLatios" are things that should be in X teammate's analysis, not Latios's. I also removed a lot of mental thoughts that seemed to drag on for multiple sentences where they could easily condense down to one. Also, gotta be consistent about that gender stuff. Other than these things, the analysis looks good and ready to go on-site.

Cheers.

I know that this may be a bit too late for this, but I really am not seeing how DD has an advantage over substitute besides not losing a little HP.
Substitute isn't viable because which one would you rather have assuming both take a hit:

a) A 30-40% +1 Latios that can still outspeed Scarfers and isn't forced to switch out the moment it sees one.
b) A 60% Latios that's forced to switch out the moment it sees a Choice Scarfer.

Besides, if the opposing Pokemon stays in and breaks your Sub, you're at 60% with no sub whereas DD Latios can live the hit (hey it's forcing the opposing Pokemon out it shouldn't deal too much damage to Latios) and set up the DD so Scarfers won't outspeed it.
