This is the official thread for Little Cup Battle of the Week! Every week the LC community will have an opportunity to vote for and watch top tier players duke it out for everyone to enjoy. If you've ever wanted to see a particular person battle, now you can make it happen.
What's the point of this?
In the series, at least one battle will be in the XY current format, meaning that those who are new to littlecup can see what the top players are using and learn more about the meta. Those who aren't new to littlecup can prove themselves and show off their battling skills. These battles might even display what's to become the next top threat!
How's this all going to work?
This thread will work in a 3-phase format. Nomination Stage, Voting Stage, and Battle Stage. This process will be repeated about every week:
Nomination Stage: During this stage, members of the community will nominate 3 other community members that they would like to see battle. You may not nominate yourself and it is recommended that the users you do nominate have been active within the past two weeks. Please try to nominate three members and no fewer. This stage will last from Sunday to Tuesday. and the nominations will be tallied around 11 PM PST (2 AM EST) on Tuesday. The five people with the most nominations, including ties, will be placed on a ballot to start the next part of the process.
Voting Stage: During this stage, everyone will vote for the one person that they would most like to see in a battle. The voting stage will take place on Wednesday and Thursday. Votes will be tallied around 11 PM PST on Thursday. The two players with the most votes will be announced and notified. If, however, there is a tie for 2nd most votes, a "runoff" will happen on Friday to determine the 2nd competitor. If there is no "runoff" needed, then the time for the battle will be announced on the Friday of that week.
Battle Stage: The best stage, of course. This stage will take place on Saturdays, unless the players need to schedule for a different date. The competitors or I will announce what time the battle will approximately take place in this thread. Battles are encouraged to take place on the main server. Anybody who can make the time of the battle is highly encouraged to join and watch the battle live. If you aren't able to make the battle, replays of all the battles will be saved and posted here, so that you may watch them as you please. Note that the battles should be a best of 3 series as this minimizes the impact of bad luck, but also allows the two competitors to show off up to 3 of their best teams. On top of this, the two players participating in the battle may choose to use different LC formats. Available formats are DPP, BW, and the various XY eras. Please note that at least one of the battles must be in the current XY format. Competitors and spectators alike are encouraged to share some of their thoughts of the battles (turning points, crucial misplays, clutch predictions, etc.) that most effected the outcomes. Once the Battle Stage is complete, the process will start again from the Nomination Stage.
What am I getting out of this?
As mentioned in the introduction, everyone gets something out of this. Newcomers get to see battle strategies that the experienced players talk about around the forums being used in real battle situations. Experienced players get to show off their creativity and see who the best may be. And, of course, we all get a good series of battles to watch (or be a part of) every week!
Rules and Miscellaneous Info:
Don't spam vote. The main goal is to help newcomers to LC better understand the battle strategies that top players talk about in the forums in a real battle, so it's counterproductive to pit two players with limited XY LC experience against one another.
If you are on the 5-person ballot for the Voting Stage, but know you won't be able to participate in the battle at the end of the week, then please post in this thread or contact me otherwise. It's not a big deal if something came up irl, but if you tell me in advance, then I won't be forced to skip battles and the whole process will be smoother.
The two competitors from the last week's battle can't be nominated for the following week. So, for example, if TheUnluckyOne and Zeriloa battled in Week 2, they can't be nominated for Week 3. This is to allow new competitors and keep the battles from getting stale.
Do not Nominate or Vote for yourself. This is a community-driven battle, so if the community wants to see you in a battle, they'll vote for you. Eventually, near everybody will have been in a battle.
