Lileep (Update)

[Overview]

Lileep is a wonderful addition to many teams in the Little Cup metagame. As the tier is dominated by the likes of Chinchou and Staryu, a hard counter to the aforementioned Water-types is incredibly useful. Also, Lileep has excellent defensive stats which can be used to check threats such as Murkrow, Ponyta, and Larvesta, all omnipresent threats in the Little Cup metagame. Finally, Lileep is one of the best walls a sand team can have as its already good Special Defense stat is boosted by 50 percent under sandstorm. Unfortunately, Lileep's Rock typing is a curse as well as a gift. Little Cup is plagued with offensive Fighting-types such as Mienfoo and Scraggy, who can both take advantage of Lileep's mediocre offensive traits. Additionally, Lileep faces tough competition from Ferroseed, who can set up Spikes and Stealth Rock. Don't let these faults deter you from using Lileep, however; if you need its services, Lileep will deliver very effectively.

[SET]
name: Tank
move 1: Stealth Rock
move 2: Energy Ball
move 3: Recover
move 4: Toxic / Hidden Power Rock
item: Eviolite
ability: Storm Drain
nature: Calm
evs: 228 HP / 144 Def / 28 SpA / 64 SpD / 16 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

If Lileep is not being utilized on a sand team, this is the set you should be using. Lileep makes for one of the best Stealth Rock users in Little Cup as Staryu, one of the only commonly used spinners, cannot safely use Rapid Spin on Lileep for fear of a STAB super effective Energy Ball. Energy Ball, while one of Lileep's best STAB moves, is inferior to Giga Drain; however, Giga Drain cannot be used as it is illegal with Storm Drain. Recover is what sets Lileep apart from many other walls in the tier, including Ferroseed, allowing Lileep to survive throughout the battle. The last two moveslots are to be tailored to your needs. Toxic is great for hitting Mienfoo on the switch, as it helps negate the fighter's HP regained from Regenerator. However, Hidden Power Rock is useful for scaring off Murkrow, Ponyta, and Larvesta, thus making Lileep a good mixed wall. Storm Drain is what sets Lileep apart from other Water-type checks, allowing it to switch into any and all Water-type attacks, gain a Special Attack boost, and retaliate with a boosted Energy Ball.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Akin to every other wall in Little Cup, Eviolite is a must to ensure that Lileep can take both physical and special hits. The EVs are used to make Lileep a good mixed wall, capable of checking special attackers such as Chinchou and physical attackers such as Murkrow. If you don't want Lileep to be a mixed wall, an EV spread of 232 HP / 32 SpA / 220 SpD / 24 Spe with a Calm nature can be utilized to make Lileep an excellent special wall.

Lileep has some neat options that it can utilize in the fourth moveslot. Hidden Power Fire is useful for hitting Ferroseed, who can set up entry hazards all over this set; Hidden Power Fire is also useful for taking down Magnemite, who can take down Lileep with Flash Cannon. Ancient Power is an okay option over Hidden Power Rock, but its lower PP and base power makes it a generally inferior choice.

As Lileep makes such a great check to Water-types, things that appreciate the removal of Water-types make for fine partners. Murkrow hates Chinchou, who is easily disposed of by Lileep; meanwhile, Murkroq can get rid of the Fighting-types that plague Lileep's existence. Natu is good for checking Fighting-types and can bounce back Toxics aimed at Lileep. Lileep can also take care of Electric-type attacks aimed at Natu due to its Grass typing.

[SET]
name: Stockpile
move 1: Stockpile
move 2: Energy Ball
move 3: Recover
move 4: Toxic / Hidden Power Rock / Hidden Power Fire
item: Eviolite
ability: Storm Drain
nature: Calm
evs: 228 HP / 144 Def / 28 SpA / 64 SpD / 16 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

This is easily Lileep's best set on a sand team, as Lileep has a free moveslot to make use of if Hippopotas is using Stealth Rock. Stockpile lets Lileep defeat Pokemon that are normally supposed to counter it, such as Croagunk and Mienfoo. Also, Stockpile is useful in the late-game for stalling out threats with Energy Ball or Toxic. Recover provides Lileep with reliable recovery, something that many other walls lack. Toxic is preferred for stalling out threats such as Mienfoo and Drilbur in the latter part of the game, but Hidden Power Rock is still useful for dealing damage to Murkrow, Ponyta, and Larvesta. Hidden Power Fire is good for taking down Ferroseed and Magnemite, as Energy Ball will do pitiful damage to these Steel-types.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Eviolite is the best choice for option as Lileep needs all the defensive stat boosts it can get. The EV spread makes Lileep a more mixed defensive wall, capable of checking physical attackers like Murkrow, while still checking Water-types like Chinchou and Staryu. A Calm nature is utilized so Lileep can take special attacks exceptionally well. If you don't want to use Lileep as a mixed wall, a purely specially defensive spread with a Calm nature and 232 HP / 32 SpA / 220 SpD / 24 Spe is viable.

As far as teammates go, Hippopotas is easily the best. Not only can Hippopotas take on the Fighting-types that destroy Lileep, Hippopotas provides sand for Lileep, boosting its already stellar defenses to insane levels. Finally, Lileep is able to take on all Water-type moves aimed at Hippopotas, gain a Special Attack boost via Storm Drain, and proceed to hit a switch-in hard with a STAB Energy Ball. Since this set has no way of dealing with status, Chikorita with Aromatherapy makes for a fine partner as Lileep never wants to be anywhere near a Toxic. Since you're using a Hippopotas with this set, you're going to need a check to Snover. Larvesta makes a great switch in to all Snover, barring the rare varieties with Hidden Power Rock, and can maintain momentum with U-turn or OHKO with Flare Blitz. Since Fighting-types can easily switch in and set up on Lileep, Choice Scarf Murkrow and Taillow make for good partners as they check threats such as Mienfoo and Scraggy. Finally, Magnemite is a good partner for dealing with Ferroseed and Bronzor; both of these Steel-types wall this set with ease and can set up hazards or Toxic, respectively.

[Other Options]

Lileep doesn't have many legitimate options, so you should probably stick to the moves listed on the sets above. Barrier is a possibility to boost your Defense, but is largely outclassed by Stockpile. Mirror Coat is a nice surprise for taking down powerful special attackers including Misdreavus and Gastly. Lileep has access to Sunny Day as well, so it can act as a bulky weather supporter. If utilizing Sunny Day, be sure to use SolarBeam as your STAB move of choice.

[Checks and Counters]

Although Lileep is an incredible defensive Pokemon, it's rather easy to check. The best overall counter to Lileep is not even a Pokemon or a type of Pokemon; it's Toxic. When badly poisoned, Lileep begins to lose to things that it was supposed to check, such as Murkrow. Finally, Toxic ensures that Lileep will not be surviving for an incredibly long time even though Lileep has access to Recover. Most Fighting-types deal with Lileep rather easily, as they take little from any of Lileep's attacks and many don't really care about Toxic. Mienfoo can threaten Lileep with a STAB Hi Jump Kick, ignore Toxic due to its Regenerator ability, and maintain momentum with U-turn. Timburr can snag a Guts boost on a Toxic switch-in and proceed to either Drain Punch or set up Bulk Ups against Lileep. Scraggy doesn't fear Toxic due to Shed Skin and can take out Lileep with a Drain Punch or set up Dragon Dances. Finally, Snover can singlehandedly defeat Lileep and many of the sand teams that it is found on due to its powerful Blizzard.

Main set should look like:

Stealth Rock
Energy Ball
Recover
Toxic / HP Rock

Ancientpower in AC

Also keep in mind the set I provided uses HP Rock IVs.

Curse / Swords Dance in OO

Do that and QC 1/2

I really see no reason to omit Stockpile, can you expound on that?

Since you're not on irc i'll just say my stuff here.

I understand that Stockpile + sandstorm makes Lileep a defensive monster. But lets look at what Lileep is losing to.
1. Fighting-types
2. Toxic
The Stockpile set is not beating any of these two things. Mienfoo's HJK does a ton even after a Stockpile, Timburr sets up on Lileep and so does Scraggy. Only thing that the Stockpile set does is set on its butt and waits to get critted. Maybe an AC mention of Stockpile will suffice but I don't think anything more than that is necessary.

conceded the stockpile point on irc yesterday
added stockpile with the help of blarararaaraara

Toxic is preferred for stalling out threats such as Mienfoo and Drilbur in the latter part of the game, but Hidden Power Rock is still useful for taking down the likes ofdealing damage to Murkrow, Ponyta, and Larvesta. Hidden Power Fire is good for taking down Ferroseed and Magnemite, as Energy Ball will do pitiful damage to the aforementionedse Steel-types.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Like all walls in Little Cup, Eviolite is the preferred item to make Lileep as bulky as possibleEviolite is the best choice for option as Lileep needs all the defensive stat boosts it can get.

Larvesta makes a great switch in to all Snover, barring the rare varieties with Hidden Power Rock, and can maintain momentum with U-turn, or OHKO with Flareb Blitz. Since Fighting-types can easily switch in and set up on Lileep, Choice Scarf Murkrow and Taillow make for good partners as they check the aforementioned Fighting-typesreats such as Mienfoo and Scraggy.

Mirror Coat is a nice surprise for taking down powerful special attackers such asincluding Misdreavus and Gastly.

When badly poisoned, Lileep begins to lose to things that it was supposed to check, likesuch as Murkrow. Finally, Toxic ensures that Lileep will not be surviving for an incredibly long time, even though Lileep has access to Recover. Timburr can snag a Guts boost on a Toxic switch-in, and proceed to either Drain Punch or set up Bulk Ups onagainst Lileep. Scraggy doesn't fear Toxic due to Shed Skin and can take out Lileep with a Drain Punch or set up Dragon Dances. Finally, Snover can singlehandedly defeat Lileep and many of the sand teams that it is found on due to its powerful Blizzard.

Good job!
