LC Lotad

Overview
########

Lotad has a unique typing with a nice STAB combination; however, it has low stats. It depends on rain to work well, as Swift Swim, gives Lotad a small niche on rain teams by doubling its Speed. It has a nice movepool which includes powerful STAB moves. However, Lotad is weak to common types in Flying and Bug.

Life Orb
########
name: Life Orb
move 1: Hydro Pump
move 2: Rain Dance
move 3: Giga Drain / Energy Ball
move 4: Ice Beam
ability: Swift Swim
item: Life Orb
evs: 116 Def / 196 SpA / 196 Spe
ivs: 19 HP
nature: Modest / Timid

Moves
========

This is the only viable set that Lotad should run. Rain Dance doubles Lotad's Speed. Hydro Pump and Giga Drain are the main STAB moves. Energy ball could be used over Giga Drain for its higher damage output, but Giga Drain's recovery is usually more useful than a chance to OHKO Chinchou after Stealth Rock. Ice Beam is for coverage, hitting Flying-types hard. Surf or Scald can be used over Hydro Pump for their accuracy and utility, respectively, but Lotad's mediocre Special Attack usually makes them not worth it.

Set Details
========

A Modest nature allows Lotad to hit 24 Speed under rain, while a Timid nature lets it hit 26 Speed, which allows it to outspeed Timid Choice Scarf Chinchou, Jolly Choice Scarf Drilbur, and Jolly Choice Scarf Mienfoo. With a Modest nature, Lotad Speed ties with Jolly Choice Scarf Bunnelby, Jolly Choice Scarf Cranidos, Modest Choice Scarf Chinchou, Adamant Choice Scarf Drilbur, and Adamant Choice Scarf Mienfoo. It is also important to note that reducing Lotad's HP IVs to 19 allows it to take less damage from Life Orb recoil; the EVs maximize Lotad's both Special Attack and Speed, while slightly boosting its defenses.

Usage Yips
========

Switch Lotad in after a foe has been KOed or through a slow Volt Switch or U-turn. Set the rain up and sweep while predicting correctly. Preserving Lotad until late-game until its main counters, such as Ferroseed, Mantyke, and Munchlax, are KOed is advisable.

Team Options
========

Lotad is rain-dependent, so it's nice to have other Rain Dance users that can support it. Also, entry hazards are beneficial, allowing Lotad to secure some important KOs.
Ferroseed can be a good teammate for this reason, while Chinchou can be useful to deal with Mantyke and provide rain support, and Scraggy is a powerful teammate that can deal with Munchlax, supporting Lotad's sweep.

Other Options
########

Although Lotad is able to utilize a SubSeead set, it is outclassed in that role by other Grass-types such as Cottonee.

Checks & Counters
#######

**Special Tanks and Walls:** Pokemon with decent special bulk are obviously Lotad's main counters; for example, Croagunk can take any hit from Lotad thanks to its type and ability.

**Strong Priority Abusers**: Fletchling can revenge kill Lotad with ease thanks to its access to Gale Wings Acrobatics.

**Weather Inducers** Weather setters such as Vulpix and Snover can easily revenge kill Lotad by removing the rain that Lotad relies on.

**Choice Scarf Users**: Faster Choice Scarf users can easily KO Lotad, due to its fraility.

Banned deucer.
Scraggy can also help vs ferro

Surf is slashed so in moves, also maybe replace with scald?

Well... Lotad need to powerful moves like hydropump, surf is only to do not miss, scald could be an option :)

Overview:
Saying its ability is "great" is a bit misleading because for most Pokemon it's not all that useful; instead, say that Swift Swim gives Lotad a small niche on Rain teams or something along those lines.
Flying is certainly a common offensive type, but Bug is not.

Life Orb:
I don't think Surf should be slashed in when Lotad really needs all the power it can get given its below average Special Attack stat, so move 2 should only be Hydro Pump.
Change the EV spread to 116 Def / 196 SpA / 196 Spe to better take priority moves.
To the bottom of the set, add IVs: 19 HP
Reducing Lotad's HP to 19 will allow it to take less damage from Life Orb recoil.

Set Details:
Explain why the HP IVs should be reduced here.
Elaborate on what 26 Speed outspeeds that 24 Speed does not (24 Speed is outsped by Timid Choice Scarf Chinchou, Jolly Choice Scarf Drilbur and Jolly Choice Scarf Mienfoo, and speed ties with Jolly Choice Scarf Bunnelby, Jolly Choice Scarf Cranidos, Modest Choice Scarf Chinchou, Adamant Choice Scarf Drilbur, and Adamant Choice Scarf Mienfoo).

Usage Tips:
- Nothing much to say: simply bring lotad in on any pokemon that is unable to threaten it
I don't think very many relevant Pokemon except for like Hippopotas fall under this category (Drilbur 2HKOs after Stealth Rock). Instead, say that Lotad should come in through a revenge-kill or on a slow Volt Switch/U-Turn into something that cannot OHKO it, before setting up.

Other Options:
Mention Surf and Scald as alternative STAB moves, but say that they are usually too weak for Lotad to sweep with.

Checks and Counters:
This isn't formatted correctly; see other analyses if you aren't sure how this works.
For example, for specially bulky Pokemon, you would do:
**Special Tanks and Walls:** Pokemon with decent special bulk are obviously its main counters.
Use Fletchling as an example of a priority user that can beat Lotad, and mention that it can cleanly OHKO Lotad even without prior damage.
Mention that Vulpix and Snover can easily revenge-kill it by putting out Rain.

Good work n.n

does energy ball net any ohkos or 2hkos that giga drain doesn't? if not, remove it. if it does say which mons it helps netting kos with. (use calcs to look this up on common pokemon that resist hydro pump e.g. eviolite chinchou, slowpoke, staryu)

Same with modest, run calcs on that. I see outspeed scarf chinchou and drilbur as more important that the power tbh, so unless modest helps with anything specific, remove it. if it does help with something specific, add it.

As another note, your formatting is off. checks and counters is formatted like this - **Name of Counter**:

Capitalise Life Orb, and write Hydro Pump properly

qc 3/3 after that

(remove enter here) Hydro Pump and Giga Drain are the main stabs, Energy could sub Giga Drain for the damage. (remove enter here) Hydro Pump is generally the best Water-type STAB option, although Surf or Scald could are also viable. Energy Ball has a niche over Giga Drain, because it has a higher chance to OHKO Chinchou after Stealth Rock damage:
196+ SpA Life Orb Lotad Giga Drain vs. 76 HP / 0 SpD Eviolite Chinchou: 18-23 (72 - 92%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
196+ SpA Life Orb Lotad Energy Ball vs. 76 HP / 0 SpD Eviolite Chinchou: 18-26 (72 - 104%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

However, Lotad cannot recover health without Giga Drain. Ice Beam is for coverage, and hits Flying-types hard. (add period) flying type

Set Details

By having mediocre offensive stats, Hydro Pump is generally better, altough Surf or Scald could be options. Energy Ball has a niche over Giga Drain, because it has a 93 % chance to OHKO Chinchou against 6.3% of Giga Drain,both after Stealth Rock damage (196+ SpA Life Orb Lotad Giga Drain vs. 76 HP / 0 SpD Eviolite Chinchou: 18-23 (72 - 92%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock). (<--- this should all go under Moves.) As for the nature choice, The given EVs maximize Lotad's Special Attack and Speed, while sightly boosting it's defenses. A Modest nature allows Lotad to hit 24 Speed under rain, which allows it to Speed tie with Jolly Choice Scarf Bunnelby, Jolly Choice Scarf Cranidos, Modest Choice Scarf Chinchow, Adamant Choice Scarf Drilbur, and Adamant Choice Scarf Mienfoo, while a Timid nature lets it hit 26 Speed, which allows it to outspeed what 24 speed doesn't: Timid Choice Scarf Chinchou, Jolly Choice Scarf Drilbur and Jolly Choice Scarf Mienfoo. (remove enter) Then, set the rain up and sweep while predicting correctly.
