Ludicolo [GP 2/2]

Status
Not open for further replies.
Overview
########

Once outshone by Kingdra, Ludicolo is now the go-to Swift Swim user thanks to its amazing coverage. Ludicolo is also is 4x resistant to Water-type moves and neutral to Ice-, Electric-, and Grass-type moves. These traits are useful on non-rain teams too, as Ludicolo can provide Fake Out support and help the team against special attackers and rain teams when using Assault Vest; however, its Defense is low and it can't take strong physical attacks.

Assault Vest
########
name: Assault Vest
move 1: Scald / Hydro Pump
move 2: Giga Drain
move 3: Ice Beam
move 4: Fake Out
ability: Swift Swim
item: Assault Vest
evs: 252 HP / 188 Def / 68 SpA
nature: Modest

Moves
========

This set combines great coverage moves and bulk for long-lasting effectiveness. Scald deals decent damage and boasts a chance to burn, but Hydro Pump, with its higher damage output, is more favorable in rain.

Giga Drain complements Ludicolo's Water typing nicely, and trumps opposing Water-types, especially Rotom-W and Suicune. Ice Beam hits opposing Grass- and Dragon-types for super effective damage. Fake Out support gives Ludicolo's teammates some breathing room for the turn.

Set Details
========

Assaut Vest lets Ludicolo sponge hits from Water-types such as Rotom-W and put more pressure on special attackers such as Zapdos. To put Ludicolo's bulk in perspective, with maximum HP and no Special Defense investment, Rotom-W's Thunderbolt is a 4HKO. Swift Swim is preferred when using or playing against rain.
252 HP / 188 Def / 68 SpA lets Ludicolo always survive Double-Edge from Jolly Mega Kangaskhan. If running a Life Orb, a more offensive spread is recommended. 52 HP / 252 SpA / 204 Spe allows Ludicolo to outspeed Adamant Scarf Garchomp.

Usage Tips
========

Ludicolo should come in on a special attack that it can tank, give Fake Out support, hit what it can, and run away when a big hit is coming. Assault Vest makes Ludicolo a nice switch in for special attacks.

Team Options
========

Politoed is Ludicolo's partner in crime, as the two of them don't share weaknesses and do form a very solid rain core together; however, Ludicolo by itself can be a great answer to rain and doesn't need rain support to be effective. Talonflame is another good partner for Ludicolo, as it can take care of Mega Venusaur and Amoonguss. Ludicolo pairs reasonably well with teammates that are weak to Water-type moves and want a switch-in, such as Heatran, Rotom-H, and Landorus-T — which can all threaten Talonflame.

Life Orb
########
name: Life Orb
move 1: Hydro Pump
move 2: Giga Drain
move 3: Ice Beam
move 4: Fake Out / Protect
ability: Swift Swim
item: Life Orb
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
nature: Modest

Moves
========

This set trades inherit special bulkiness for more power. Hydro Pump provides maximum damage, and Giga Drain hits Water-types and restores some HP. Ice Beam rounds out the coverage. Fake Out support gives Ludicolo's teammates some breathing room for the turn. Protect can also be used, as Ludicolo is so frail.

Set Details
========

Simple, super offensive EVs allow for maximum damage output, and the Speed EVs cause a Speed tie with maximum Speed Adamant Bisharp outside of rain. You can lower the Speed investment to increase bulk if you find it unneeded with a Swift Swim boost.

Usage Tips
========

This set can't take hits like the Assault Vest set can. Don't make it take too many hits and don't use this one without a Politoed on your team because it's too slow without rain.

Team Options
========

Politoed can set up rain to activate Swift Swim and boost Water-type moves as well. Talonflame and Ludicolo together have great coverage and deal nicely with what the other has trouble with. A teammate to cover Ludicolo's few weaknesses, such as to Flying-type attacks is appreciated. Mega Manetric and Rotom-H make for good partners for this role.

Other Options
########

Energy Ball is more powerful than Giga Drain but lacks recovery benefits. Rain Dance dissipates Mega CharizardY's Drought. If you're using Ludicolo without Politoed and not finding much use with Swift Swim, Own Tempo gives protection against Swagger users.

Checks & Counters
########

**Flying-type Moves**: Attacks from the likes of Flying-types such as Mega Salamence's Return, Double-Edge, Hyper Voice in addition to Talonflame's Brave Bird destroy Ludicolo.

**Strong Physical Attacks**: Attacks from Mega Kangaskhan or Mega Mawile are devastating because Ludicolo's Defense is pretty average. Its attacking prowess is also pretty average. If the opponent has a Pokemon with reasonable special bulk, it can usually trade favorably with Ludicolo.

**Other Grass-types**: Ludicolo has problems with most checks to rain teams, such as Mega Venusaur and Ferrothorn.

Once outshined outshone by Kingdra, Ludicolo is now the go-to Swift Swim user as it has amazing coverage. Ludicolo also is also(sounds less awkward here. sorry if this seems nitpicky) 4x resistant to Water-type moves with and neutrality neutral to Ice-, Electric-, and Grass-type moves,.(remove comma + add period) These traits are which is useful for on non-(add hyphen)rain teams too,(add comma) as because it Ludicolo can provide Fake Out support and help the team against special attackers and rain(add space)teams when using Assault Vest.;(remove period + add semicolon) however, But it'(remove apostrophe)s D(capitalize d)efense is low and it can't take strong physical attacks.

Assault Vest

name: Assault Vest
move 1: Scald / Hydro Pump
move 2: Giga Drain
move 3: Ice Beam
move 4: Fake Out
ability: Swift Swim
item: Assault Vest
evs: 252 HP / 188 Def / 68 SpAtk
nature: Modest

Moves

========

Put your great coverage to use with the bulk to take a hit yourself.(This sounds like it belongs in Set Details, and I would reword it to "This set combines great coverage moves and bulk for long-lasting effectiveness.") Scald deals decent damage and boasts a chance to burn and Hydro Pump, with its higher damage, is more favorable in rain. Hydro Pump or Scald is your main STAB move, the choice is between reliable but sometimes underwhelming damage and strong but inaccurate damage. Hydro Pump is probably what you want in Rain

-(remove hyphen)Giga Drain complements Ludicolo's Water typing nicely, lets you get throw most water types(not sure what you're trying to say here... would "and trumps opposing Water-types" work? if so, use that as a replacement), especially Rotom-W and Suicune. Ice Beam lets you hit hits opposing Grass-(add hyphen) and Dragon-types for super effective damage. Fake Out support gives your Ludicolo's teammates team mates some breathing room for the turn.

Set Details

========

Assaut Vest lets you Ludicolo sponge hits from Rotom-W and Water-types in general Water-types such as Rotom-W and put more pressure against special attackers like such as Zapdos. To put its Ludicolo's bulk in perspective, with max HP and no Special Defense investment, Rotom-W's Thunderbolt is a 4HKO against it. Swift Swim is preferred when using r(lowercase r)ain and playing against it.

252 HP / 188 Def / 68 SpAtk let lets it Ludicolo always live Double-(add hyphen)Edge from Jolly Mega Kangaskhan, rest is dumped in SpAtk. If running a Life Orb, a more offensive spread is recommended. 52 HP / 252 SpA / 204 Spe is a good spread, allowing you allows Ludicolo to outspeed Adamant Choice Scarf Garchomp and everything slower.

Usage Tips

========

Ludicolo should c(lowercase c)ome in on a special attack that you it can tank, give Fake Out support, hit what you it can, and run away when a big hit's coming. Assault Vest makes it Ludicolo also a nice switch-(add hyphen)in for special attacks.

Team Options

========

Politoed is Ludicolo's partner in crime, as the two of them don't share each other's weaknesses and form a very solid rain core together,;(remove comma + add semicolon) but however, Ludicolo by itself can be a great answer to rain by itself and doesn't need rain support to be effective.(add space)Talonflame is another good partner who has great coverage with for Ludicolo,(add comma) (and Politoed) as it can take care of Mega Venusaur and Amoonguss. Ludicolo pairs reasonably well with teammates that are water weak to Water-type moves and want a switch-in,(remove comma) such as Heatran, Rotom-H,(add comma) and Landorus-T—(add dash)who which can threaten Talonflame.

Life Orb

########

name:(add space)Life Orb
move 1: Hydro Pump
move 2: Giga Drain
move 3: Ice Beam
move 4: Fake Out / Protect
ability: Swift Swim
item: Life Orb
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
nature: Modest

Moves

========

This set trades your inherit special bulkiness for more power. Hydro Pump for provides max damage,(add space)Giga Drain complements Water typing nicely, lets you get throw most water types and heal HP back.(already mentioned) Ice Beam rounds out the coverage. Fake Out support gives your Ludicolo's team(remove space)mates some breathing room for the turn.(Most of this information was already mentioned...the only new info is the first sentence really. Might wanna consider removing some stuff) Protect can also be used since you're Ludicolo is so frail.

Set Details

========

Simple super offensive EVs allow for max damage output,(add comma) and the Speed EVs cause a speed tie with Adamant Bisharp outside of r(lowercase r)ain with max speed. You can lower the S(capitalize s)peed investment to increase bulk if you find it unneeded with a Swift Swim boost.

Usage Tips

========

It can't take hits anything like the Assault Vest sets set can,.(remove comma + add period) D(capitalize d)on't make it take too many hits and don't use this one without a Politoed on your team because it's too slow without rain.

Team Options

========

Politoed can set up rain for the fastest Fake Out to activate Swift Swim(this sounded better to me. I would think that the rain would boost the speed of more moves than just Fake Out.)and boost water Water-type moves as well. Talonflame and Ludicolo together have great coverage and deal nicely with what the other has trouble with, the three pokemon also make a nice offensive rain core. Something to cover Ludicolo's few weaknesses,(add comma) such as a like Flying-type, are is appreciated. Mega Manetric or and Rotom-H makes make a good partner partners.

Other Options

########

Absorb Bulb + Surf Politoed is a pretty cheesy old strategy from VGC 2012. It can work, but it's awkward at times to set up and is a one time boost.(This seems completely irrelevant to the analysis) Energy Ball is more powerful than Giga Drain but lacks recovery benefits gives you more power but Giga Drain's recovery is often more useful. Rain Dance dissipates Mega Charizard Y's Drought lets you stuff a Charizard-Y's Drought as it Mega Evolves. If you're using Ludicolo without Politoed and you're not finding much use with Swift Swim,(add comma) Own Tempo gives you protection against Swagger users.

Checks & Counters

########

**Flying-type moves:(add colon)** Attacks from the likes of Flying-types, such as Mega Salamence's(add apostrophe + s) Return, Double-Edge, and Hyper Voice (Return, Double-Edge, Hyper Voice) and in addition to Talonflame's(add apostrophe + s) Brave Bird, (BraveBird) destroy Ludicolo.

**(remove space)Strong physical a(lowercase a)ttacks:(add colon)** Attacks from Mega Kangaskhan or Mega Mawile are devestating devastating because Ludicolo'(add apostrophe)s D(capitalize d)efense is pretty average. It'(remove apostrophe)s attacking prowess is also pretty average. If you have something with reasonable special bulk reasonably specially bulky(too many adverbs imo), it can usually trade favorably with Ludicolo.

**Other G(capitalize g)rass-types:(add colon)** Ludicolo has problems with most checks to rain teams, such as Mega Venusaur and Ferrothorn.

There were a very large amount of small mistakes in this analysis, ranging from sentences that lack end marks, fragments/sentences that simply don't read correctly, and simple capitalization/punctuation errors. I know it must be hard to catch small grammar and punctuation mistakes (especially when your focus isn't on GP.) Just letting you know so hopefully you'll notice these in the future, as the GP process can be a bit painstaking if small mistakes are around every corner. And without further ado...

GP 1/2 :)

a few more things: under Checks & Counters, the colons should be placed after the 2nd pair of asterisks, not before. I just realized I did it wrong here. my bad
also Speed should be capitalized under the 2nd set's details "Speed tie with Adamant Bisharp"
nice one queez

why all the extra spaces ?__?
fix the line breaks and please be careful when implementing the changes; there was a number of pretty noticeable mistakes.

Queez - regarding the Moves section of the Life Orb set, you cannot remove sentences for already being mentioned in previous sets. You have no way of knowing the order in which the reader looks at the sets. You can request OP to reword/rephrase stuff so that it's not just a copy/paste of what's been said before, but you can't just remove all the similar stuff.
Also, section names in Checks & Counters are capitalized, and the colon goes outside of the asterisks.

Simple, (comma) super offensive EVs allow for maximum damage output, and the Speed EVs cause a Speed tie with Adamant Bisharp outside of rain with maximum Speed. (kind of confused here. what do the last two words refer to, Bisharp or Ludicolo? if you mean that the Adamant Bisharp has maximum Speed, say "cause a Speed tie with maximum Speed Adamant Bisharp outside of rain." if you meant that Ludicolo has maximum Speed, say "cause a Speed tie with Adamant Bisharp outside of rain.")
