Lure That Threat SM RU Edition - Week 19: Milotic (Nominations)

Week 14: Defensive Rhyperior

Rhyperior @ Leftovers
Ability: Solid Rock
EVs: 248 HP / 16 Atk / 244 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Rock Blast
- Ice Punch/Toxic

Rhyperior is a unique mon in the role compression it offers: offers Stelth Rocks, a great offensive STAB combo, and a Normal-type resist so you don't lose to Swellow at team preview. Rhyperior's job is relatively simple: It's an offensive tank. Sit infront of what you wall set up rocks or fire off attacks. Earthquake/Rock Blast are STAB moves, Ice Punch or Toxic lets you punish Gligar trying to Defog infront of you and dissuade Flygon from setting up.

Rotom-Heat @ Choice Specs
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Volt Switch
- Thunderbolt
- Overheat
- Hidden Power [Grass]

Rhyperior is usually a solid answer to Rotom-Heat, but with Choice Specs and HP Grass, you 2HKO Rhyperior easily. HP Grass also hits Quagsire, but HP Water can be used to hit Mega Camerupt.

252 SpA Choice Specs Rotom-Heat Hidden Power Grass vs. 248 HP / 244 SpD Solid Rock Rhyperior: 288-342 (66.5 - 78.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Jolteon @ Life Orb
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Thunderbolt
- Volt Switch
- Shadow Ball
- Hidden Power [Grass]

Rhyperior can usually switch into Jolteon however with Hidden Power Grass you 2HKO Rhyperior on the switch also hits Quagsire which'd otherwise be a solid answer.
252 SpA Life Orb Jolteon Hidden Power Grass vs. 248 HP / 244 SpD Solid Rock Rhyperior: 261-308 (60.2 - 71.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Welcome to the "give a random mon that rhyperior checks toxic/hidden power water/grass nomination week".

Honchkrow @ Fightinium Z
Ability: Moxie
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Superpower
- Sucker Punch
- Brave Bird
- Pursuit

Pretty cool lure, obvious but solid. Pummeling doesnt do that much on account of rhyperiors crazy physical bulk but it will 2HKO into superpower on a predicted switch, and ryhperior will almost always come in on you. Also hits steels like regi which can try and soft check you, mons like gigalith, etc.

252+ Atk Honchkrow All-Out Pummeling (190 BP) vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Solid Rock Rhyperior: 264-312 (60.9 - 72%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Honchkrow Superpower vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Solid Rock Rhyperior: 168-198 (38.7 - 45.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

Tyrantrum @ Dragonium Z
Ability: Rock Head
EVs: 4 Def / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Head Smash
- Outrage
- Earthquake
- Dragon Dance

Rhyperior is considered one of Tyrantrum's biggest check because of its high defense and HP stats and its Ground typing that allows it to take Head Smash quite well, only fearing EQ/Superpower/Outrage from CB sets, which the opponent may take advantage of. But with this set, Tyrantrum can beat Rhyperior after a bit prior damage with +1 Devastating Drake (it always KO with Adamant and a layer with Spikes and has a high chance of KOing with rocks).

+1 252+ Atk Tyrantrum Devastating Drake (190 BP) vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Rhyperior: 388-457 (89.6 - 105.5%) -- 75% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

Aerodactyl @ Waterium Z
Ability: Unnerve
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake
- Aqua Tail
- Pursuit

Rhyperior will be switching into Aerodactyl 99% of the time due to living an Earthquake pretty well and taking nothing from Stone Edge/Pursuit. With Waterium Aqua Tail you can OHKO Rhyperior fairly easily, it's guaranteed after Rhyperior switches it on any chip at all.

252 Atk Aerodactyl Hydro Vortex (175 BP) vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Solid Rock Rhyperior: 393-465 (90.7 - 107.3%) -- 81.3% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
