Week 15: Specially Defensive Bronzong

Bronzong @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Gyro Ball
- Toxic
- Protect / Psywave / Earthquake

Generally outclassed by either Doublade or Registeel in terms of being a Steel-type in the tier, Bronzong has recently picked up in popularity slightly due to it being of the better defensive checks to both Nidoqueen and Mega-Abamasnow plus sporting an immunity to Spikes. Stealth Rocks are for general team support, Gyro Ball + Toxic aims to be as non-passive as it possibly can. Protect is used for additional Leftovers recovery + wracking up Toxic damage, Psywave aims to deal some damage to opposing Steel-types should it need to, and Earthquake attempts to do something similar while threatening Salazzle and Nidoqueen.

Reserving z-razor shell cloyster.

Cloyster @ Waterium Z
Ability: Skill Link
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Icicle Crash
- Razor Shell
- Rock Blast
- Shell Smash

Cloyster can easily set up on Bronzong due to its great natural physical bulk, after that it blows it back with a +2 Z-Razor Shell which OHKOs.

+2 252+ Atk Cloyster Hydro Vortex (140 BP) vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Bronzong: 355-418 (105 - 123.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Celesteela is Life

Nidoqueen @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Earth Power
- Ice Beam
- Stealth Rock
- Fire Blast

Bronzdong (seriously this mon is ass) is one of the only surefire counters to standard Offensive SR Queen, so it's expected that it would switch in on Queen. What the Bronzdong player doesn't know is that Nidoqueen can learn Fire Blast, which 2HKOes Bronzong cleanly and can also be used to net a OHKO on Escavalier which can be annoying to Queen if it's healthy enough.

252+ SpA Life Orb Sheer Force Nidoqueen Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Bronzong: 203-239 (60 - 70.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Reserving Espeon.

Espeon @ Flame Orb
Ability: Synchronize
EVs: 252 SpA / 252 SpD / 4 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Shadow Ball
- Magic Coat
- Reflect
- Calm Mind

This is an interesting yet smart set to use when facing Bronzong. I gave Espeon Magic Coat because of Toxic and Stealth Rocks But the most important part of why i gave Espeon Magic Coat so when Bronzong uses Toxic it won't work and then it will activate Flame Orb and Synchronize that will burn Bronzong and most of Bronzong's moves are Physical attacks if he uses them. I gave it Reflect because of the physical attacks and the only Special attacking move that Bronzong uses is Psywave which will do Nothing. And finally Calm Mind because 1 Shadow Ball will 3HKO Bronzong But with 1-3 Calm mind it can 2HKO bronzong and with 4 Calm Minds it can OHKO bronzong.

+1 252 SpA Espeon Shadow Ball vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Bronzong: 170-202 (50.2 - 59.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery and burn damage

+2 252 SpA Espeon Shadow Ball vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Bronzong: 226-268 (66.8 - 79.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery and burn damage

+3 252 SpA Espeon Shadow Ball vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Bronzong: 282-334 (83.4 - 98.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery and burn damage

+4 252 SpA Espeon Shadow Ball vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Bronzong: 340-400 (100.5 - 118.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

0 Atk burned Bronzong Gyro Ball (138 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Espeon through Reflect: 51-60 (18.8 - 22.1%) -- 36.3% chance to 4HKO after burn damage

0 Atk burned Bronzong Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Espeon through Reflect: 24-29 (8.8 - 10.7%) -- possible 7HKO after burn damage

Diancie @ Psychium Z
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpA
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Gravity
- Trick Room
- Earth Power
- Moonblast

so basically the idea of this set is to gain +1 special attack throughout Gravity by Psychium Z, and hopefully have trick room set up by the time zong is on the field, and 2hko with epower. overall this is p dumb lol but rlly fun
+1 252+ SpA Diancie Earth Power vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Bronzong: 176-208 (52 - 61.5%) -- 96.1% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Gardevoir @ Choice Specs
Ability: Trace
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Psychic
- Moonblast
- Shadow Ball
- Trick / HW

Zong is one of the best switchins to scarf Garde, thus specs makes for a nice lure. U almost always see Scarf Garde, bc it's easier to fit, but Specs is the better set imo. For the most part it's just the same moves as on Scarf, except Sball is ran in the 3rd slot, as it allows for Garde to 2hko Zong and Cress (not sdef) while almost ohkoing Doub.
Usually trick is preferred in order to cripple Regi, but HW can aslo be ran in the 4th slot. More niche moves such as toxic, wisp and dbond cannot be fit on specs however.

252 SpA Choice Specs Gardevoir Shadow Ball vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Bronzong: 166-196 (49.1 - 57.9%) -- 97.7% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

Quagsire @ Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
EVs: 252 HP / 120 Def / 136 Spe
Impish Nature
- Curse / Power-Up-Punch
- Recover
- Waterfall
- Safeguard

So that Bronzong thinks its gonna get a nice toxic off on quag for nothing. Nice try. This is a SAFE SPACE NOW. While you're at it, creep Registeel as well.

Flygon @ Firium Z
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Earthquake
- Outrage
- Fire Punch

Standard DD Flygon gets walled by Bronzong because +1 Outrage/Devastating Drake isn't enough to beat it, but with Fire Punch Flygon can break through it. Although Fire Punch + Firium is mainly for Bronzong, it still allows Flygon to beat Grass-types and Pokemon like Durant and Escavalier easier and giving up the Iron Tail slot isn't that problematic because Fairy types are more uncommon after Nidoqueen coming back to the tier.

+1 252 Atk Flygon Inferno Overdrive (140 BP) vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Bronzong: 334-394 (98.8 - 116.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

Dragalge @ Ghostium Z
Ability: Adaptability
EVs: 200 HP / 252 SpA / 56 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Draco Meteor
- Sludge Wave
- Shadow Ball
- Toxic Spikes

Zong really only fears hp fire from this thing typically, which does 0 anyway. With never ending nightmare though, you do around 60-70%, while it can’t damage drag anyway, unless it runs the rare Eq. Z Shadow Ball helps drag with all of its usual switchins, but mainly snipes zong and doublade, who does fear hp fire to a degree.

Here’s the exact calc: Never-Ending Nightmare (160 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Bronzong: 204-240 (60.3 - 71%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

The Espy that somehow loses to Zong is straight fire, so gotta vote for Cofaiclus obviously.
Quag that loses to Gatr and Brux and hands out free switchins for all the prominent physical breakers in the tier due to the lack of Scald sounds powerful as well, so King Wynaut can have my other vote.
