Hello Smogon and welcome to an RMT because I need help fixing it because I am bad at Pokemon and all of that nonsense. The team uses Mamoswine to kill Dragons and stuff like that, Gyarados gets walled by Dragons so Mamoswine opens up Gyarados' path of destruction. I use an odd yet somewhat effective Heatran set to trap opponent's on switches or in general allowing me to switch to a check to said Pokemon and set up on it or straight up kill it. Latias is a special counterpart to Gyarados and benefits from the use of Heatran. Starmie spins hazards away allowing me to make multiple switches between team members. Mienshao leads the team by bulldozing what the opponent leads with or gaining the first turn momentum which factors into the outcome of the game.

Sneek Peek of the Team

Team Building Process

Version One

[IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

This is the first version, Magnezone and Mamoswine take out Steels and Dragons which most teams compose a large amount of their team with. Heatran and Skarmory make a pretty good defensive core being able to take on physical and special attacks between each other. Mienshao most of the time would be a lead and Starmie spins away the opponents hazards and can put offensive pressure on the opponent on the special side.

Version Two

[IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

Version Two was changing Magnezone to Gyarados to patch up a weakness to Infernape as suggested by Expert Physics, other than that the team didn't make any other shifts.

Version Three

[IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

Version Three changed Skarmory to Latias to patch up a Rotom Wash weakness that was obvious. Latias also added the ability to put offensive pressure on opponents even with it's defensive presence. The only other change was Stealth Rock being used on Mamoswine.

The Team

[IMG][IMG]

Ice Age 5 (Mamoswine) (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Snow Cloak
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SpA)
- Earthquake
- Ice Shard
- Icicle Spear
- Stealth Rock

Mamoswine is the dragon slayer. If they value their precious Dragonites and Lati@s. Mamoswine's job is to fake out the opponent and eliminate Dragons from the game. The Life Orb set is probably the best Mamoswine set without a doubt. It increases the power but doesn't lock Mamoswine into a move which is fantastic for Dragon killing (You Icicle Spear they live and DD, Ice Shard ftw.) Jolly is to outspeed BulkyNite and Adamant variants and speed tie with Jollynite. Snow Cloak is for the rare Hail teams and Oblivious is bad, unless I am playing against a gimmick pro.

Earthquake is STAB and kills off Grounded Heatran pretty easily. Ice Shard is priority and is the way to beat Dragonite's after a DD because otherwise I am just outsped by +1 Dragonite. I prefer Icicle Spear to troll Sub Dragonite, most expect Crash so they set up a Sub and waste 25% of their health and bank on a miss, Icicle Spear doesn't miss and hits more than once, it's more preference but I have been seeing more usage of SubDDNite lately. With the removal of Skarmory, my Stealth Rocker and Spiker to the much better and less cool Latias I needed a Stealth Rocker so I changed it to Mamoswine and it's all sunshine and ice cream sandwiches now.

[IMG][IMG]

Puff Dance (Gyarados) (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 56 HP / 248 Atk / 204 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SpA)
- Bounce
- Dragon Dance
- Substitute
- Waterfall

Gyarados was suggested to me by Expert Physics and I say it is a good addition. I didn't really have a need for Magnezone because well I had no reason to eliminate Steels other than for giggles and to troll the opponent and whatnot. Gyarados fits into the team by setting up on a trapped opponent or when the opponent allows me to, at that point Gyarados becomes a force to be reckoned with seeing as it's attacks are potentially boosted and coming off a base 125 attack stat. It is a pretty decent pivot switch with it's decent typing only hit by Electric and Rock and Intimidate weakens physical opponent's making switching into them easier. The EVs allow the Sub to live a Power Whip from Ferrothorn.

Sub and Dragon Dance allow me to boost up safely behind a Sub or just get a free attack off. Dragon Dance boosts the Attack and Speed of the user, Gyarados with it's great attack and decent speed appreciate these boosts and this allows it to fire off it's STAB with the higher chance of defeating it's opponents. Waterfall is the general accepted STAB move for DD Gyarados with it's flawless accuracy and decent BP after STAB. Bounce is an interesting move kind of like Fly but with the chance to Paralyze like Body Slam, when the opponent is Paralyzed this just makes Gyarados' job easier since it will be faster than the opposing Pokemon or you can bank on parahax to get free Subs / DDs / free attacks. Gyarados is pretty straight forward if you know what you are doing.

[IMG][IMG]

Smurf (Heatran) (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 44 HP / 200 SpA / 252 SpD / 12 Spd
Modest Nature (+SpA, -Atk)
- Dragon Pulse
- Magma Storm
- Protect / Substitute
- Taunt

This set is really fun to use. It is 4-5HKO'd by Specs Latios Draco Meteor and meanwhile it can trap it with Magma Storm then kill it with Dragon Pulse the next turn. It 3HKOs Terrakion with Magma Storm + 2 Dragon Pulse (it does less than 50% for min and max against 4/0 Terrakion). The EVs are kind of weird but it is more to speed creep Specially Defensive Heatran and for bulk while retaining the ability to damage a lot of the metagame. I never found Timid needed for a more defensive Heatran variant and Modest is needed in my opinion.

Dragon Pulse and Magma Storm has perfect coverage except against other Heatran, I don't find you need to beat offensive Heatran with this set since you just get outsped and nailed by Earth Power and defensive Heatran don't appreciate the Taunt. Defensive Heatran don't really carry Earth Power either so they just get walled by this thing. The ability to trap things with Magma Storm is lovely, especially since it still does a lot even on Pokemon that resist it. If the opponent switches out of Heatran and into something that can take the Magma Storm and beat Heatran can't switch out making it possible for me to switch in a check to their Pokemon allowing me to deal with the big threat. Protect vs Substitute is a tossup because Protect has it's benefit of scouting the opponent's moveset seeing if they carry a Ground move or anything important but Substitute is great for setting up on Pokes that can't beat me allowing me to be safe against an opponent for one attack or more, it also protects me from Tricks from Lati@s, Taunt and Dragon Tail. Taunt deals with slower Heatran and opponent's that try to pHaze me away. It also stops Baton Passers trying to get out of the Magma Storm. [I named it Smurf because I'm retarded.]

[IMG][IMG]

Bieber (Latias) (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 228 Def / 28 SpA
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Calm Mind
- Dragon Pulse
- Recover
- Roar

Latias is the replacement for Skarmory as a general tank and pHazer. It's fine I changed the hazard laying person to Mamoswine. Anyways Latias is a monster in taking hits from both sides of the spectrum, even more so after Calm Mind boosts bringing Latias' Special Defense to astronomical levels. I used the Physically Defensive Calm Mind set with the Speed EVs invested to Special Attack and not using Reflect because I can and I needed a pHazer and stuff so Roar was preferred. Otherwise it's mostly bulk investment and Bold boosts the Base Defense by 10% or whatever.

Calm Mind is the point of the set to boost the Special Attack and Special Defense essentially making Latias a bulky mofo and hard to kill while at the same time increasing the power of it's Dragon Pulses. Dragon Pulse is the only attacking move on the set and the only one necessary because most of the time Latias isn't expected to defeat Steel opponents and it does decent damage to the opponent factoring in STAB and a decent Special Attack stat with potential boosts. Recover is the recovery move of choice for Latias and we all know what it does, heal 50% of the user's health and prolongs death. Roar pHazes out the opponent and can bring in poor Dragonite's and cause them to break Multiscale or just rack up Rocks damage or whatever it may be.

[IMG][IMG]

Pew Pew (Starmie) @ Life Orb
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Rapid Spin
- Recover
- Surf
- Thunderbolt

Starmie is my Rain Check and Rapid Spinner both of which are crucial to the team and it's flow. The set is pretty much standard and all of that nonsense. I don't exactly know the correct Life Orb number for Starmie but if somebody could tell me that would be helpful. Timid is for the Speed allowing it to outrun Bulky Dragonite, SubSD and Band Terrakion, neutral offensive Dragonite, Infernape and SubDisable Gengar. Natural Cure heals off status that Starmie may have recieved from Toxic Spikes or anything in general. The EVs are simple, max power and speed.

The moveset is pretty much standard. Surf is my choice because I don't like risking the miss on Hydro Pump and Surf is probably powerful enough to kill most things. Rapid Spin is crucial to most team's success because hazards prevent more switch ins and my team switches a fair bit. Thunderbolt is to for the coverage with Surf, it kills off Gyarados and can dent Dragonite and stuff. Thunderbolt can also damage Jellicent which would otherwise wall me. This coming from a ridiculously high Special Attack stat and Life Orb boosted can put a dent in almost everything to exist, except for a potential Gastrodon but it really isn't going to be able to compete against pretty much the rest of this team. Recover is to gain 50% of the users health to deal with continuing attacks, Life Orb and Sand damage which all can wear Starmie down after time.

[IMG][IMG]

Bruce Lee (Mienshao) (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Regenerator
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spd
Naive Nature (+Spd, -SpD)
- Fake Out
- Hi Jump Kick
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- U-Turn

Mienshao is pretty much the closest thing to a dedicated lead you can ask for in this game after the banning of Deoxys-S to Ubers where it is rarely used. He pretty much wins games on the first turn. Fake Out will nick the opponent breaking their Sash if they are into that thing or breaking lead Dragonite's Multiscale and has the chance to kill it with Hidden Power Ice if luck is on my side. The EVs and Nature are to be faster than most and kill stuff with ease. It can make the game 6-5 or give me some early game momentum with a U-Turn.

Fake Out is the first turn move that allows me to quickly hit the opponent for some damage and break Sashes and Multiscale. Hidden Power Ice is to kill Gliscor, Dragonite and Landorus that would otherwise wall Mienshao and it is pretty good later on against physical walls like Skarmory that think they can sit on Mienshao. U-Turn and Hi Jump Kick are the second turn moves that will usually win me games by changing the score to my favour or gaining early game momentum which can stay in my favour for the rest of the game.

Choice Band - Slower than Mienshao and is destroyed by the Hi Jump Kick. Gyarados can potentially set up on it, Heatran has the chance to trap it and Mamoswine lands decent damage with Earthquakes.

Choice Scarf - ^ (I am pretty sure Mamo is slower after Scarf boost though, I'm not 100% sure.)

Dragon Dance - ^
Rotom-W:

Choice Scarf / Specs - Latias pretty much walls and sets up on it's face.

Support - Doesn't have the same offensive pressure so I can switch in more and allows more switches, if I get a free switch in with Mienshao it can level this thing.
Scizor:

Choice Band - It locks itself into a move, Heatran forces a switch on Bullet Punch and Gyarados can come in easily, Latias can take Superpowers, Quick Attack is still Heatran bait and Pursuit asks for pretty much everything.

Swords Dance - It's pretty much still letting Gyarados poop on it. Heatran can effectively put this thing to sleep though.

Bulky Swords Dance - Same thing as regular.

Dragon Dance - It takes turns to set up so I can beat it while it is setting up.

Mixed - Nonexistent and not exactly good.

Parashuffler - Not the scariest thing in the world it pretty much gets dumped on by Gyarados and Mamoswine.

Choice Scarf - Not really common and Heatran / Latias can deal with it effectively.

Hey,

Solid team there. I find that your current team seems very weak to Infernape. It can take out Mamoswine and Magnezone with Flare Blitz or Close Combat, whilst Heatran dies to Close Combat. Skarmory also gets roasted by a Flare Blitz, and Starmie doesn't like getting hit by U-Turn. Mienshao also can't switch into a Flare Blitz, since it gets KO'd by Flare Blitz. I am not really recommending keeping Magnezone on your current team, simply because you don't have problems with Steel-types. Mienshao and Heatran can take care of them. Also, you don't even have a Dragon teammate that would benefit from having no steels on the opposing side. I'd replace Magnezone by a Substitute + Dragon Dance Gyarados. It helps against Infernape, and also brings a more offensive presence on your team. Gyarados' solid defensive typing allows it to tank a Flare Blitz or a Close Combat, and it can then set up a Substitute and start sweeping. It also has Intimidate, which helps against Scizor and Infernape. It also makes Starmie an even better teammate, since Gyarados is weak to Stealth Rock. Starmie would be more or less useful if you had no teammate weak to hazards. Gyarados' Waterfall lets you take out Ground, Rock, and Fire Pokemon, whilst Bounce lets you take 2HKO Ferrothorn, and is a good STAB coverage move overall. The EV spread lets Gyarados tank a Power Whip from Ferrothorn without seeing its Substitute broken in the process. Without further ado, here's the Gyarados set. Nice team, and good luck!
Substitute + Dragon Dance Gyarados (open)

Gyarados | Leftovers | Intimidate
Adamant | 56 HP / 248 Atk / 204 Spe
~ Substitute
~ Dragon Dance
~ Waterfall
~ Bounce

TL;DR Version (open)

Substitute + Dragon Dance Gyarados > Magnezone
Pros: More insurance against Infernape, makes Starmie more viable, lets you bring more offense to your team.
Cons: Steels aren't a problem, so I guess it makes your team more vulnerable to Jellicent? Gyarados can beat it, and so does Starmie, though.

Alright I'll update the team when I get the chance to. Scarf Rotom has to lock itself into a move so just bring in the appropriate Pokémon.

Latias would help you significantly with your weakness to rotom, so I think that it is worth a shot on your team. If you do that you might want to find a slot on mamoswine for stealth rock, however.

Probably use Stealth Rock over Superpower because it doesn't really hit anything that EQ doesn't.

I have used SubBounceGyar a lot and I always use Moxie>Intimidate. It allows less set-up to be needed and is quite deadly. It also allows him to sweep more quickly. +3/+2 is always fun to sweep with. Intimidate seemed near useless to me and Moxie just made sweep easier to get and didn't rely too much on the extra use of DD. Just a personal preference I guess... But once I tried it, I really haven't gone back.

Intimidate prevents Ferrothorn from breaking the Sub with Power Whip and I prefer greater ease in switching into physical threats.

Very solid team, my only suggestion is to replace Ice Beam on Starmie for Recover instead. Starmie is going to die too quickly with hazards, Sand and LO recoil. Since you got Mamoswine who uses STAB Ice attacks, HP Ice on Mienshao, and Latias who uses STAB Dragon attacks, I see Ice Beam on Starmie useless. Recover will allow you to keep Starmie alive for longer and gives you more chances to spin off the hazards.

To the top, page 2 save. Anyways updated the team added a team building process and all that jazz, I'll add a threat list for reference in a bit.
