THIS MANKEY HAS A FUNNY FACE

QC: Thunderboy / Tahu / Hilomilo
GP: Fireflame / Omicron

[OVERVIEW]

Mankey is a revenge killer whose main niche over other Fighting-types is its access to Gunk Shot, which allows it to significantly damage Fairy-types, and Close Combat, which is one of the strongest Fighting-type moves. It also has other coverage moves such as Earthquake to hit Poison-types and Ice Punch to hit Foongus and Pumpkaboo, and a pivoting tool in U-turn, allowing Mankey to gain momentum, all of which are backed up by a great Attack stat and the respectable 17 Speed tier. Thanks to Defiant, it is also able to gain +2 Attack whenever it is affected by Sticky Web, Defog, or Intimidate. However, Mankey cannot take hits and is vulnerable to priority attacks due to its poor bulk, which is only amplified after Close Combat's defense drops. It faces heavy competition from other Fighting-types, primarily Mienfoo, as it is able to perform Mankey's role of a revenge killer far more consistently. In addition, Mankey's lack of Knock Off means that it has a tough time getting past Ghost-types, and while Defiant is a good ability, it is very situational and hard to make use of with Mankey's low bulk.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Close Combat is Mankey's most powerful STAB move and 2HKOes most threats it hits neutrally, but it lowers Mankey's defenses after each use. Gunk Shot is used against Fairy-types that resist Close Combat, and it OHKOes Cottonee and Snubbull while 2HKOing Spritzee after Stealth Rock. U-turn allows Mankey to scout the foe and provide momentum for the team, which is great with a Choice Scarf. Earthquake is able to 2HKO Croagunk and Mareanie, both of which resist Mankey's other moves. Ice Punch is an alternative option to hit Foongus and Pumpkaboo super effectively, although it is not very strong.

Set Details
========

196 Attack and Speed EVs are used to maximize Mankey's offensive capabilities. A Jolly nature and Choice Scarf allow Mankey to hit 25 Speed, outspeeding all Choice Scarf users up to 16 Speed like Pawniard and Bunnelby. An Adamant nature can also be run, however, as it allows Mankey to achieve certain 2HKOes more consistently, such as with Close Combat against Timburr and with Gunk Shot against Spritzee. The remaining EVs are put into HP and Defense to take less damage from priority attacks. Defiant allows Mankey to get a +2 Attack boost when affected by Sticky Web, Defog, and Intimidate.

Usage Tips
========

Bring Mankey in safely via a slow U-turn or Volt Switch or after a KO, as it is very frail and can't afford to take a hit. Once Mankey is in, use it as a revenge killer or cleaner with its Choice Scarf-boosted Speed and high-powered moves. Predict well, and don't get locked into a move the foe is immune to, such as Close Combat on a Ghost-type or Gunk Shot on a Steel-type, as that makes Mankey's team lose all momentum. U-turn is usually a safe option that switches Mankey out after dealing some damage, which is great for scouting and gaining momentum. If you predict that the foe is going to use Defog, you can switch Mankey in to get an Attack boost, making Mankey very dangerous. This is very risky, however, as most Defoggers such as Vullaby are Flying-types and can OHKO Mankey.

Team Options
========

U-turn and Volt Switch users such as Chinchou, Magnemite, and Mienfoo can bring in Mankey safely while creating a VoltTurn core with it. Electric- and Rock-types such as Magnemite and Onix can deal with Flying-types that can threaten Mankey. Entry hazards from the likes of Ferroseed and Onix weaken the opponent's Pokemon upon switching in so that Mankey has an easier time KOing them. Diglett can trap and KO opposing Poison-types, while Mudbray can switch into and KO them. Pursuit trappers such as Alolan Grimer and Pawniard can help remove Abra and Gastly from the field, which can revenge kill Mankey. Knock Off users such as Timburr and Vullaby can help remove Eviolite and Berry Juice from the foe, making them easier to deal with, as well as hit Ghost-types that wall Mankey super effectively.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

A Life Orb can be used to deal a lot more damage, but Mankey loses out on the added Speed from Choice Scarf, making it easier to revenge kill. Vital Spirit allows it to switch into Foongus's Spore. As for moves, Mankey has a couple of options: Night Slash is Mankey's only way of hitting Ghost-types super effectively, but it is hard to find room for it. Similarly, Rock Slide can be used to hit Flying-types and Larvesta a lot harder, but it's hard to find a moveslot for it, and most of the common Flying-types take neutral damage from Close Combat. Thunder Punch allows Mankey to hit Water-types such as Staryu and Slowpoke, but it is not very strong. Bulk Up can be used to increase Mankey's Attack and Defense, but this is mostly outclassed by Timburr due to its access to Drain Punch and far superior bulk. Mankey can use support moves such as Encore and Taunt; however, Mankey doesn't make good use of them due to its poor bulk and average Speed without a Choice Scarf equipped.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Ghost-types**: Frillish and Pumpkaboo-XL are immune to Close Combat, don't mind Mankey's other coverage attacks, and can halve Mankey's Attack with Will-O-Wisp. Gastly completely walls Mankey, as it is immune to or 4x resists Mankey's coverage options on the main set. However, all these Pokemon should watch out for the rare Night Slash.

**Poison-types**: Croagunk and Mareanie don't mind switching in on Mankey's attacks other than Earthquake, and Croagunk can KO Mankey with Sludge Bomb after some chip damage, while Mareanie can burn it with Scald. Foongus doesn't take much damage from Mankey's attacks and is able to render it helpless with Spore and 2HKO it with Sludge Bomb.

**Flying-types**: While they cannot switch in on a Close Combat, Vullaby and Rufflet can both OHKO Mankey with a super effective Flying-type move. Choice Scarf Doduo outspeeds Mankey and OHKOes it with Brave Bird.

**Psychic-types**: Slowpoke does not take much damage from Mankey's attacking options, though it should be careful of switching in on U-turn, while Abra can revenge kill Mankey with Psychic.

[OVERVIEW]
  • Mention that Mankey notably gets the Attack boost from Initimidate, Sticky Web, and Defog, though it loses to most Defoggers.
  • Don't say 'a lot of attacks can 2HKO Mankey'. It sounds weird. In stead, just say it's very frail making it prone to being revenge killed
  • Merge your point about other Fighters and your point about Mienfoo into one.
  • Mention that while 17 Speed is good, it's not amazing, and leaves it outsped by other Scarfers like Doduo and Gastly
[SET]
name: Choice Scarf
move 1: Close Combat
move 2: U-turn
move 3: Gunk Shot
move 4: Earthquake
item: Choice Scarf
ability: Defiant
nature: Jolly / Adamant
evs: 116 HP / 196 Atk / 196 Spe
  • Adamant allows you to 2HKO Timburr (with Close Combat), Spritzee (with Gunk Shot), nearly always 2HKO offensive Vullaby (Close Combat), and usually OHKO offensive Mienfoo (Close Combat). As such, it's definitely worth a slash. However, I still think outspeeding Scarfers like Pawniard and Bunnelby while speed tying things like Scarf Foo and Chou is more worth it, so keep Jolly as first slash.
[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========
  • Gunk Shot does not 2HKO Spritzee without an Adamant nature, so mention this.
Set Details
========
  • Mention the Adamant calcs I mentioned above. Also mention my examples for why Jolly is good
Usage Tips
========
  • Mention that Mankey can be used as a late game cleaner with its powerful Close Combat.
  • Change 'resisted or immune threat' to 'threat that is immune to or resists it'.
  • Mention being careful of switching Mankey into common Flying-type Defoggers like Vullaby, as they can deal significant damage to it with their Flying STAB.
Team Options
========
  • The second point should start with 'Electric-types such as...' since other Electric-types like Elekid also deal with those Flying-types. Of course, you don't have to give other examples.
  • Mention ways to deal with Fairy- and Psychic-types (Steel-types, Poison-types, Dark-types).
  • Mention Pursuit trappers likes Pawniard and Grimer-A to trap and remove Abra and Gastly, both of which are annoying to Mankey.
[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
  • Mention Thunder Punch to hit bulky Waters like Slowpoke, Frillish, and Shellder, but say that it's quite weak.
Checks and Counters
===================
  • Gastly does not 4x resist Gunk Shot, so change this to just resists.
  • Mention Psychic-types. Slowpoke and Bronzor can wall Mankey for all eternity, while Abra can revenge kill it if it's locked into Close Combat.
QC 1/3, nice work

Implemented and btw, a Jolly Gunk Shot has a chance to 2HKO Spritzee and Gastly does 4x resist Poison as it is Ghost/Poison.

[OVERVIEW]

pros:
• Mankey reaches 17 Speed and has great Attack which allow it to function as a revenge killer. Mention Choice Scarf here.
• It has great coverage moves such as Gunk Shot to hit Fairies and Earthquake to hit Poison-types and access to U-turn for momentum that offer a niche over other Fighting-types. Emphasize Gunk Shot here; it's Mankey's main selling point over Scarf Mienfoo.
• Defiant gives a +2 Attack boost for when one of Mankey's stats are lowered like from Intimidate, Defog, and Sticky Web.

cons:
• It's very frail so it's prone to being revenge killed. Mention that Mankey's frailty is exacerbated by Close Combat's Defense drops.
• It faces heavy competitions from other Fighting-types such as Mienfoo and Scraggy for their better bulk, reliability, and more consistent abilities. Change the Scraggy mention to Timburr; it's more relevant than Scraggy. Mention Scarf Mienfoo specifically here; it largely outclasses Mankey.
• Lack of Knock Off means that Ghost-types give trouble to Mankey.
Mention that Defiant is very situational and doesn't work well with Mankey's low bulk. Merge the pro/con sections but keep the cons after the pros.

[SET]

nature: Jolly / Adamant
evs: 116 HP / 196 Atk / 196 Spe I think an EV spread of 36 HP / 196 Atk / 76 Def / 196 Spe is more optimal here as Mankey will take less from priority attacks.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========
• Close Combat is Mankey's most powerful STAB move and can OHKO Scraggy, Munchlax, and Doduo and also 2HKO Mienfoo and Staryu. Get rid of the mentions here and just say that it can 2HKO most neutral threats.
• U-turn allows Mankey to scout the opponent and provides momentum for the team, which is great with a Choice Scarf.
• Gunk Shot hits Fairy-types and OHKOs Cottonee and Snubbull while it has a chance to 2HKO Spritzee without an Adamant nature. Change the Spritzee bit to say that it is 2HKOd after Stealth Rock.
• Earthquake allows Mankey to hit Poison-types that otherwise wall it and 2HKOs Croagunk, Alolan Grimer, and Mareanie. Remove the Grimer-Alola mention here as it is 2HKOd by Close Combat. Mention Foongus and put it before Croagunk and Mareanie.

Set Details
========
• 196 Attack and Speed EVs are used to maximize Mankey's offensive presence.
• Jolly nature and Choice Scarf hit 25 Speed, outspeeding all unboosted Pokemon and up to 16 Speed Choice Scarf users like Pawniard and Bunnelby, while tying with other 17 Speed such as Mienfoo and Chinchou. Reword this to say that it outspeeds all Pokemon up to 16 Speed Scarf users. You don't need to mention 17 Speed Scarfers or any specific threats here.
• An Adamant nature however, guarantees an OHKO on Omanyte and offensive Mienfoo after Stealth Rock, 2HKOes Timburr and Vullaby with Close Combat and guarantees a 2HKO on Spritzee with Gunk Shot. Again, you don't really need to mention any specific threats here--just say it guarantees more 2HKOs.
• The remaining EVs are put into HP for better survivability. See above.
• Defiant allows Mankey to get a +2 Attack boost when hit by Defog or Intimidate, as well as in Sticky Web. Mention Sticky Web before Defog/Intimidate, as webs are more likely to trigger Defiant than either of the others.

Usage Tips
========
• Mankey is used as a revenge killer and cleaner with its Choice Scarf boosted Speed and high power moves.
• Bring Mankey in safely by a slow U-turn or Volt Switch or after a KO as it is very frail and can't afford to take a hit.
• Predict well and don't get locked into a move the foe is immune to, such as Close Combat on a Ghost-type or Gunk Shot on a Steel-type, as that kills all momentum.
• U-turn is a safe option that switches you out after attacking, which is great for scouting and bringing momentum.
• If you predict that your opponent is going to use Defog, you can switch in Mankey to get a +2 Attack boost, making Mankey very dangerous.
• Be careful however, most Defoggers such as Vullaby can outright OHKO Mankey with a Flying-type attack.

Team Options
========
• U-turn and Volt Switch users such as Chinchou, Magnemite, and Mienfoo can bring in Mankey safely while creating a VoltTurn core with it.
• Electric, and Rock-types such as Magnemite, Onix, and Kabuto can also deal with Flying-types that can otherwise OHKO Mankey. Drop Kabuto. For these kind of things, mentioning 2 possible teammates is enough.
• Entry hazards from those of Ferroseed and Onix weaken the opponent's Pokemon so that Mankey has an easier time of KOing them. Those-->the likes of
• Ground-types such as Drilbur, Mudbray, and Diglett can KO the Poison-types can trouble Mankey. Change the mention order to Diglett, Mudbray. Mention that Diglett can trap opposing Poison-types.
• Poison-types like Mareanie, Foongus, and Gastly can more reliably KO Fairy-types that can give Mankey problems. Change the mentions to Foongus and Grimer-Alola, in that order.
• Pursuit trappers such as Alolan Grimer and Pawniard can help remove Abra, Slowpoke, and Gastly from the field, which can trouble Mankey. Drop Slowpoke--it only takes about 45% from Pursuit.
• Knock Off users such as Pawniard, Timburr, and Vullaby can help remove Eviolites and Berry Juices from the foe making them easier to deal with, as well as super-effectively hit Ghost-types that otherwise wall Mankey. Drop Pawniard--see above.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
• A Life Orb can be used to deal a lot more damage, but Mankey loses out on the added Speed from Choice Scarf making it easier to revenge kill. Mention that Life Orb allows Mankey to take slightly better advantage of Defiant.
• Night Slash is Mankey's only way of hitting Ghost-types super effectively, but its power is lacking. It's strong enough to OHKO Gastly--Drop the second part.
• Rock Slide can be used to hit Flying-types and Larvesta a lot harder but its hard to find a spot for it, and most of the common Flying-types take neutral damage from Close Combat.
• Vital Spirit allows it to switch into Foongus and Morelull's Spore as it prevents sleep. Morelull isn't relevant enough to warrant a mention.
• Ice Punch allows Mankey to super effectively hit Foongus which can work in conjunction with Vital Spirit. Mention Pumpkaboo here as well.
• Thunder Punch allows Mankey to hit Water-types such as Frillish and Slowpoke however it is quite weak.
• Mankey can use support moves such as Encore which gives opportunities to use Bulk Up or to force a switch, but Cottonee does this better. Change this section to mention Taunt as well. Drop the bits about Bulk up and Cottonee; mention in their place that status moves don't work well with Choice Scarf or Mankey's low bulk.
Add a bulk up section here--talk about how it's viable but almost completely outclassed by Timburr.

Checks and Counters
===================
**Ghost-types**: Frillish and Pumpkaboo-XL are immune to Close Combat, don't mind Mankey's other coverage attacks, and can halve Mankey's Attack with Will-O-Wisp. Gastly completely walls Mankey as it is immune to or 4x resists Mankey's coverage options on the main set however all these Pokemon should watch out for the rare Night Slash.

**Poison-types**: Croagunk and Mareanie don't mind switching in on Mankey's attacks other than Earthquake, and can KO with Sludge Bomb. Koffing, while rare, is immune to Earthquake and can burn it with Will-O-Wisp effectively rendering it useless. Mention Foongus--be sure to bring up that it's neutral to Earthquake. Koffing isn't really relevant enough to warrant a mention here.

**Flying-types**: While they cannot switch in on a Close Combat, Vullaby, Archen, and Rufflet can all OHKO Mankey with a super effective Flying-type move. Choice Scarf Doduo outspeeds Mankey and OHKOes it with Brave Bird.

**Psychic-types**: Slowpoke and Bronzor do not take much damage from Mankey's attacking options but should be careful of switching in on U-turn. Abra can revenge kill a Mankey locked into Close Combat with a Psychic. Bronzor is bad so don't mention it. Abra can revenge kill Mankey regardless of what move it's locked into if it's Focus Sash.

Overview
* Mankey's niche over other Fighting-types isn't just Gunk Shot. It's Gunk Shot and being one of the only Fighting-types in the tier with access to the extremely powerful Close Combat. Add this.
* "This movepool backed up by a great Attack stat and reaching 17 Speed"
This sentence is rather confusing. What exactly are you trying to say here? You're either missing 'is' in front of movepool or have forgotten to tell us what exactly the movepool and Speed does for Mankey. Either of those options work, this sentence needs some cleaning up nonetheless.

Set
Looks good

Moves
* Earthquake doesn't 2HKO Foongus, so remove it as an example.
* I'd add Ice Punch here. It allows Mankey to hit Foongus and Vullaby, who can otherwise tank a hit, super effectively. Not good enough for the set, but mention it here.

Set Details
* When you say that an Adamant nature gives Mankey more consistent 2HKOs, you need to give some examples, it's a little vague otherwise. Spritzee with Gunk Shot and Timburr or Bulky Foo with Close Combat are good examples.

Usage Tips
Looks very nice!

Team Options
* "Foongus and Alolan Grimer can more reliably KO Fairy-types that can give Mankey problems." - remove this, since Mankey OHKOs two of the tier's three relevant fairies and still 2HKOs the other (Spritzee) if rocks are down. A-Grimer 2HKOs Spritzee as well with Pjab so its not all too important anyway.

Other Options
* Remove Ice Punch from this section, since you're moving it to Moves.
* Why exactly is Mankey outclassed as a Bulk Up user by Timburr? Explain (lacks Draing Punch, Knock Off, and isn't as bulky).
* When you mention Thunder Punch, change Frillish as your first example to Staryu, as the former is far more relevant.

Checks and Counters
* Clarify in your Poison-type line that Mankey is killed with Sludge Bomb after some prior damage. Also add that Mareanie can threaten to burn it with Scald and Foongus can immobilize it with Spore.
* Remove Archen as an example in your Flying-type Pokemon section, it isn't really relevant enough anymore and two examples alongside your specific mention is good enough.

Good work, and thanks for your patience. Make sure all of this is implemented, and give yourself 3/3 afterward.

Bring Mankey in safely via a slow U-turn or Volt Switch or after a KO, as it is very frail and can't afford to take a hit. Once Mankey is in, use it as a revenge killer or and cleaner with its Choice Scarf-(AH)boosted Speed and high-(AH)power moves. Predict well and don't get locked into a move the foe is immune to, such as Close Combat on a Ghost-type or Gunk Shot on a Steel-type, as that makes Mankey's team lose all momentum. U-turn is usually a safe option that switches you Mankey out after dealing some damage, which is great for scouting and gaining momentum. If you predict that your the opponent foe is going to use Defog, you can switch Mankey in to get an Attack boost, making Mankey very dangerous. This is very risky, (AC) however, as most Defoggers such as Vullaby, (RC) are Flying-types and can OHKO Mankey with a Flying-type move.

Team Options
========

U-turn and Volt Switch users such as Chinchou, Magnemite, and Mienfoo can bring in Mankey safely while creating a VoltTurn core with it. Electric- and Rock-types such as Magnemite and Onix can also deal with Flying-types that can threaten Mankey. Entry hazards from the likes of Ferroseed and Onix weaken the opponent's Pokemon upon switch in so that Mankey has an easier time of KOing them. Diglett can trap and KO opposing Poison-types, while Mudbray can switch into and KO them. Pursuit trappers such as Alolan Grimer and Pawniard can help remove Abra and Gastly from the field, which can revenge kill Mankey. Knock Off users such as Timburr and Vullaby can help remove Eviolites and Berry Juices from the foe, (AC) making them easier to deal with, as well as super effectively hit Ghost-types that wall Mankey.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

A Life Orb can be used to deal a lot more damage, but Mankey loses out on the added Speed from Choice Scarf, making it easier to revenge kill. Vital Spirit allows it to switch into Foongus's Spore, (RC) as it prevents sleep. As for moves, Mankey has a couple of options: (colon) Night Slash is Mankey's only way of hitting Ghost-types super effectively, but it is hard to find room for it. Mankey can use support moves such as Encore and Taunt; (semicolon) however, (AC) Mankey doesn't make good use of them due to its poor bulk.

Checks and Counters
===================

(period)

**Flying-types**: While they cannot switch in on a Close Combat, Vullaby and Rufflet can both OHKO Mankey with a super effective Flying-type move. Choice Scarf Doduo outspeeds Mankey and OHKOes it with Brave Bird.

**Psychic-types**: Slowpoke does not take much damage from Mankey's attacking options, though it should be careful of switching in on U-turn while Abra can revenge kill Mankey with Psychic.

[OVERVIEW]

Mankey is a revenge killer whose main niches over other Fighting-types are Gunk Shot, which allows it to significantly damage Fairy-types, and Close Combat, which is one of the strongest Fighting-type moves. It also has other coverage moves, such as Earthquake to hit Poison-types and Ice Punch to hit Foongus and Pumpkaboo, and a pivoting tool in U-turn, allowing Mankey to gain momentum, all of which are . (RP) This movepool backed up by a great Attack stat as well as and base 17 Speed. Thanks to Defiant, it is also able to gain +2 Attack whenever hit by Sticky Web, Defog, or Intimidate. However, Mankey cannot take hits and is prone vulnerable (prone is fine) to priority attacks due to its poor bulk, which is only amplified after Close Combat's Defense drops. It faces heavy competition from other Fighting-types, primarily Mienfoo, as it is able to perform Mankey's role of a revenge killer far more consistently. In addition, its Mankey's lack of Knock Off means that Mankey it has a tough time getting past Ghost-types, and while Defiant is a good ability, it is very situational and hard to make use of with Mankey's low bulk.

Close Combat is Mankey's most powerful STAB move and 2HKOes most threats it hits neutrally. Gunk Shot OHKOes Cottonee and Snubbull while 2HKOing Spritzee after Stealth Rock. U-turn allows Mankey to scout the opponent foe and provides provide momentum for the team, which is great with a Choice Scarf. Earthquake is able to 2HKO Croagunk and Mareanie, both of which don't mind Mankey's other moves. Ice Punch is an alternative option to hit Foongus, Pumpkaboo, and Vullaby super effectively, although it is not very strong.

196 Attack and Speed EVs are used to maximize Mankey's offensive capabilities. A Jolly nature and Choice Scarf allow Mankey to hit 25 Speed, outspeeding all Pokemon Choice Scarf users up to 16 Speed Choice Scarf users like Pawniard and Bunnelby. An Adamant nature can also be run, (AC) however, as it allows Mankey to achieve certain 2HKOes more consistently, such as with Close Combat against Timburr and with Gunk Shot against Spritzee. The remaining EVs are put into HP and Defense to take less damage from priority attacks. Defiant allows Mankey to get a +2 Attack boost when hit by Sticky Web, Defog, or and Intimidate.
