The whole point of this set is Focus Punch...which really doesn't go well with a Salac Berry. There already is a salac medicham set but nothing with 3 attacks. subSalac medicham could be useful, but not on this set.
It's asinine. "Ass-inine" isn't correct, unless that was a Freudian slip and you think he's an ass. What's so "utterly stupid" about thinking Drain Punch sucks on a Pokémon with 60 / 75 / 75 defenses?
To put it simply, the amount of damage you heal back is not worth a big drop in power from Brick Break, especially when every attack worth using in the game 2HKOs you.
It's a dumb word that I use often, and the one time I use it I misspell it, lovely. *adjusts monocle of classiness*
Against something with 300 def (which is quite a lot), neutral damage should heal Medicham for about 30% Against something with 250, it will heal him for about 40%. A lot of walls and tanks can't out damage that by a reliable margin. The whole point is to put them into a situation where they realize they can't sit there attacking you in case you sub all day as drain punch will keep medicham going just fine, and their option instead becomes try to status you or switch. In this situation you then get a chance to sub, that's the point~
Perhaps it won't work for a lot of pokes, but it's a very viable option. I use a different wallbreaker set on my Medicham but I have tried all three, Hi jump kick, brick break, and drain punch, and I never regret sticking with drain punch.
Considering, Iggeh, that Medicham is actually NU, his best application is probably going to be in UU or NU, that's why this thread is getting more attention from the UU players ^_^.
Actually, Aerouille, healing back 40% or 30% does little when you have a base 60 HP stat. Saying that Drain Punch is worthwhile on a pokemon with crap defensive stats is like saying Giga Drain is viable on Tropius. Brick Break has much more power and takes the opponent down much faster than if you were to heal back 30% of the 50% damage you received and KOing the opponent in half the time. You may even end up taking more damage than if you only got hit 1 time with a 2HKO Brick Break!

Yes, a TON of walls and tanks can. Not to mention walls and tanks carry status attacks, which Drain Punch can't heal you.
You mean until it runs out of its 8 alotted PP?
You clearly haven't tested it against decent players or thought things through, as 8 PP + damage estimates being way off indicates otherwise. Don't say something's viable unless you know it is.
OU Logs. Too bad this thread wasn't for lead SpecsTran because it looks better than Medicham in these logs D: Also not sure how much of the log you want... The majority of these I'm posting the whole battle since how well the rest of the team does is as important if not moreso than how Medicham does. All of these logs were battled in series.

Medicham switches in on CBScizor stuck on Superpower. I get walled then taken out by SCARFRotom.
I forget to log the next battle, only thing that happened is I had to sacrifice Medicham to beat LOSuicune, which it ends up parahaxing and the other guy forfeits.
Smeargle makes for easy Medicham switch-in. Crucial (Gamewinning?) Substitute on Medicham is DROPPED. I thought he'd Taunt Medicham, did not remember until I looked at this log right now I had paralyzed him on the previous turn >_>. Anyways Mence comes in and Dragon rape ensues :(
Again forgetting to save the log next battle, only thing Medicham does is get walled by Rotom-H, then when I try to Focus Punch on a weakened Vaporeon I get Surf'd and killed. Battle after that Medicham doesn't get used.

I wanted a log with an epic Choice Scarf bluff. Of course noobius has other plans and I switch Medicham in on Gengar's Explosion. Decent trade, I don't remember the outcome but seeing Infernape in the log means there's a pretty good chance I got swept by it.
Double-switch using Porygon2 as bait to get Medicham in. If Ego hadn't used Substitute on Gengar and put it in Ice Punch killing range, Medicham probably would have gone down to residual damage without doing anything other than cripple a Gengar. Instead, it tags both Gengar and Gyarados.
I think right around now I get another battle where Medicham isn't used.
Bulky Jirachi SURVIVES Focus Punch. And yeah thats all Medicham gets to do. Still, I'm lucky I didn't get punished for switching it in on Specs Latias. I'm thinking unneeded hax since Jolteon could force Latias out anyways, and Porygon-Z still had to plow through a 100% Flygon. But I'm digressing.
Switch-in on Specs'd Latias works AGAIN, as well as Jolteon BP as Tyranitar comes in. Solstice should've U-turned on my Focus Punch, Latias can at least survive it. Despite Medicham taking down two Pokemon I could've easily lost if he was using an LO Mamoswine.

Suicune is bad news, have to sacrifice Medicham to beat it. (why is it so fast yet running Leftovers?) And Gengar + Azelf is just too hard to stop.
Switch-in Medicham on a paralyzed Infernape. Weird how he would risk keeping it in on Metagross but save it from Medicham. Anyways, Medicham gets stopped by Rotom-H, but Heatran gets set-up by it (not sure why he used Overheat).
Rain team = Medicham does shit. Except this time he gets a lucky break to take out Jirachi. Not sure how a team with Medicham will be able to stop Rain...
I had to sacrifice Medicham to get rid of Breloom's Substitute. Lucked out and took out his Starmie with Medicham's last turn.
Rematch. He lets Hippowdon get OHKO'd by Heatran AGAIN. I would've had a hard time getting past it otherewise. Medicham is sacrificed to get rid of Breloom's Substitute again, and again it takes out something with its last attack.
Jolteon BP to Medicham and gets walled by Spiritomb. Medicham also coming in after KO's by Walrein. Medicham only does 53.37% - 62.98% to Stallrein, aka not enough aka Meteor Mash hax saved me from death by Stallrein.
Log #16 to end on a bad note. So many fucking Infernapes. Anyways Medicham gets BP'd to by Jolteon and takes out a Latias. After I let Jolteon die (bad idea), the only way to beat Nape was to hope Porygon2 survived a CC, so Medicham gets sacrificed to let P2 heal. Discharge ruins the ploy.
Well there's the OU set. Main thing about these logs is SpecsTran is an incredibly good partner for this set, laying on the punishment when Rotom-A comes and walls Medicham, as well as drawing in Porygon2 and Blissey. The nice thing about SpecsTran is that Fire Blast does enough to force Blissey to heal or die switching in again. This is the first team to do good with Medicham after many failures; I concentrated the most on making sure I didn't get fucked by stuff that can switch in on Heatran easily and it worked well. I'll do a UU set if I have to, though I'd prefer if someone better in UU do those =)

[/FONT]Well there's the OU set. Main thing about these logs is SpecsTran is an incredibly good partner for this set, laying on the punishment when Rotom-A comes and walls Medicham, as well as drawing in Porygon2 and Blissey. The nice thing about SpecsTran is that Fire Blast does enough to force Blissey to heal or die switching in again. This is the first team to do good with Medicham after many failures; I concentrated the most on making sure I didn't get fucked by stuff that can switch in on Heatran easily and it worked well. I'll do a UU set if I have to, though I'd prefer if someone better in UU do those =)
A lot of people have been talking about post-surprise coverage... what about this:

Without Focus punch, it still hits everything in UU for neutral damage but Toxicroak, while keeping a powerful STAB attack. With 480 Attack, you may as well have STAB and 320 Attack on Night Slash, so you will probably do a decent chunk to fighting resists that aren't dark weak such as Moltres and Yanmega (2x resists still take more from FP, though). You will also hit Slowbro, Claydol, Mespirit/Uxie, Dusclops, and Rotom (who has been given massive undue mention in this thread) very hard. You may lose against Weezing and Venasaur, but these pokemon will not want to switch in on you until they learn your whole set, fearing a Psycho Cut.

Exploders are also a great way to bring Medicham in.
Leftovers destroys the surprise factor on Medicham when it switches in on Stealth Rock and Life Orb drains your HP like crazy. Possibly a Muscle Band/Expert Belt or a Liechi Berry/Salac for when you sub down and activate either berry to get Ohkos or speed?
