i know this doesn't relate to the johto starters. but could i put a suggestion for the next slate?

if so: Snake theme! Serviper, Arbok & Serperior.

Serperior is allowed 1 new move, Serviper and Arbok are allowed 2 new moves

Serperior and Serviper get an ability limit of 4, and Arbok gets an ability limit of 4.5 (to cope with the lack of a good ability and good stats)

Change it if you want, but i feel that this is average (Serp only gets ability of 4 because it already has a tier 4 ability)
Shouldn't Seviper get a 4.5 ability limit too? After all, Arbok is actually more viable than Seviper.

Dunsparce is a snake too FYI
Zygarde is too although with it's new forms it would be a little inappropriate. In my opinion, though, Dunsparce should remain forever derpy lol.

Serperior will be interesting for the mega considering that it has Contrary pre-mega. Arbok sure likes that Intimidate pre-mega. As for Seviper and Zangoose being counterparts, I think that it would make sense for the next slate to involve Zangoose. Since as was mentioned by Ludicrosity, Dunsparce is also a snake so we could toss that in there too and make it a normal type theme? Maybe the last mon for the slate could be Watchog, Purugly, Castform or some other lower tiered normal type. It also might be a little early for talking about the next next slate, though lol.

Well, looks like my wish came true. to be honest, I'm not really a competitive battler (Although i am good when i put my mind to it). I've never used Arbok or Seviper so i just assumed Serviper was better. I actually agree with Pika Xreme, and think we could add Dunsparce over Serviper (i think Serviper would be better in a slate with Zangoose; because of the so called rivalry). as for Serperior, he could be taken out for a gen 5 slate; but who wants a slate with just Arbok and Dunsparce?

Honestly I'd like to see a slate with Arbok, Weezing, and Persian. But if we are to replace any of the suggested snakes with Dunsparce, it should be Seperior because not only is it just much better competitively but also a Unova Slate is practically inevitable.

Aside from Moody or Wonder Guard, I honestly can't see any of the abilities in Rank 5 breaking Dunsparce, so...

Dunsparce for Rank 5 abilities minus Wonder Guard

It also gets Agility and has decent bulk. BAD idea. One shots practically everything that doesn't resist it and outspeeds base 135 at a +2 lol. (I know your post was a joke, but still :P)

Slithering Snakes

Limitations:

All three Pokemon will be able to gain two new moves and have an ability level limitation of 4.

Voting will last for 5 days, so be sure to send in your submissions while you can. Good luck!

Arbok-Mega
Ability: Intimidate
Typing:

Stats: 60 / 115 (+30) / 89 (+20) / 85 (+20) / 99 (+20) / 90 (+10) (538)
Movepool Additions: N/A
Description: Since Arbok's whole thing is how it intimidates foe with the pattern on its belly, I had it retain Intimidate. Since abilities active upon Mega Evolution, an Arbok with Intimidate is able to lower its opponents attack two stages. This makes it quite easy to set up Coil.

Dunsparce-Mega
Ability: Simple
Typing:

Stats: 100 / 110 (+40) / 100 (+30) / 65 / 95 (+30) / 45 (515)
Movepool Additions: Earth Power
Description: Since Dunsparce is the "Land Snake" Pokemon, and is known for digging with its drill-like, I made it a Ground-type. This also gives it STAB on Drill Run, and with Coil, it's able to patch up Drill Run's accuracy. I imagine its best set being Coil/Body Slam/Drill Run/Roost (or Rock Slide).

Seviper-Mega
Ability: Sheer Force
Typing:

Stats: 73 / 130 (+30) / 70 (+10) / 120 (+20) / 70 (+10) / 95 (+30) (558)
Movepool Additions: Leaf Blade (It has a sword for a tail, and if Gallade can learn it, why not?), Swords Dance
Description: The Pokedex states that Seviper uses its sword-like for both slashing and poisoning it foes; however, its main rival, Zangoose, is either immunity to poison, or gets stronger when poisoned. Because of this, inflicting poison is no longer a priority for Seviper; it cares only about inflicting damage. It can run either a physical set with Gunk Shot/Crunch (or Sucker Punch)/Ice Fang/Fire Fang, a special one with Sludge Wave/Dark Pulse/Flamethrower/Giga Drain, or even a mixed set.

EDIT: Changed Dunsparce's ability to Simple due to the raise

Mega Seviper
Ability:
Infiltrator
Typing: Poison/Dark
Stats: 73/130(+30)/60/120(+20)/60/115(+50)
New Moves: Swords Dance, Leaf Blade
Competitive Description: Good mixed attacker with respectable speed and some pretty nice boosting moves in Coil and SD.
Justification/Other Description: It's tail is a blade, so it was fitting for it to get Swords Dance and a blade-based move, that also gives it coverage for Ground and Rock types. It also has Infiltrator because snakes are really good at slithering into places undetected.

Mega Dunsparce
Ability:
Magic Guard
Stats: 100/70/130(+60)/65/135(+70)/15(-30)
Typing: Normal/Fairy
New Moves: Defog, Will-O-Wisp
Competitive Description: Extremely bulky wall, which is a pretty great improvement considering how the original Dunsparce was junk that wasn't even good at anything. Also has some hazard-clearing utility with Defog.

Oh COME ON. How does something with a lower BST than Azumarill not get a Level 4.5 AT THE LEAST ability, again?
Dunsparce-Mega
Ability: Serene Grace / Run Away / Rattled ----> Harlequin (Normal-type Flower Veil)
Typing: Normal/Fairy

Stats:

HP: 100
Attack: 70 ----> 140 (+70)
Defense: 70 ----> 120 (+50)
Special Attack: 65 ----> 10 (-55)
Special Defense: 65 ----> 140 (+75)
Speed: 45 ----> 5 (-40)
Base Stat Total: 415 ----> 515
Movepool Additions: Extreme Speed, Play Rough
Description: Incredibly minmaxed Ekiler with status and stat drop immunity, because that's all Dunsparce can do with its low BST and a maximum ability ranking of 4. Jerks. It's going to be at least BL2. It has to be. Otherwise... I'll never forgive myself.

Arbok-Mega
Ability: Intimidate / Shed Skin / Unnerve ----> Acidic Poison (Clone of Scrappy, allows Poison attacks and the Poison status to effect Steel-types)
Typing: Poison/Dragon

Stats:

HP: 60
Attack: 85 --> 135 (+50)
Defense: 69 ----> 69
Special Attack: 65 ----> 65
Special Defense: 79 ----> 119 (+40)
Speed: 80 ----> 90 (+10)
Base Stat Total: 438 ----> 538
Movepool Additions: Recover, Dragon Rush
Description: What it lacks in stats, it makes up for in brutal efficiency and a powerful ability that'll make Ferrothorn and Klefki wish they'd never been born. Yes, Mega Arbok's Poison attacks don't just work on Steel-types, they can, well, POISON them as well! The only things that resist its dual STABs are Excadrill, Doublade, Probopass, and Bastiodon, and you've got a whole REST OF YOUR TEAM to deal with those. Well, actually, Mega Arbok has problems with other things, too - Several Pokemon can both outspeed Arbok and hit it super-effectively, such as Lati@s, Weavile and Garchomp (among others).

For the record, Illusion can't really have any practical use on a mega since they already know what it is.

Abrok-Mega
Ability: Intimidate / Shed Skin / Unnerve -> Tremor Sense (Ground type Motor Drive clone, raises speed upon being hit by a ground move, ground immunity)
Typing: Poison -> Poison/Dark
HP: 60 -> 60 (+0)
Attack: 85 -> 105 (+20)
Defence: 69 -> 109 (+40)
Special Attack: 65 -> 65 (+0)
Special Defence: 79 -> 119 (+40)
Speed: 80 -> 80 (+0)
New Moves: Slack Off, Gunk Shot
Description: Turned Arbok into the ultimate defensive tank. Poison/Dark + Tremor Sense has no weaknesses, and intimidate from the base form can help you get in. Tremor sense comes from the stories of snakes sensing earthquakes, like so:

News article said:
In February 1975, a 7.3-magnitude earthquake struck Haicheng, a city of 1 million people located in China's Liaoning province. But one day earlier, city officials ordered an evacuation based in part on reports of strange animal behavior: Hibernating snakes in the area, for example, abandoned their winter hideouts months before normal.
Additionally, the boosted defences and access to slack off lets it sit on the field and stall everything with toxic. A set of Toxic/Slack Off/Gunk Shot/Pursuit could punish your opponent for doing anything unless they have a steel type.

Dunsparce-Mega
Ability: Run Away / Serene Grace / Rattled - > Simple
Typing: Normal -> Normal
HP: 100 -> 100 (+0)
Attack: 70 -> 90 (+20)
Defence: 70 -> 90 (+20)
Special Attack: 65 -> 85 (+20)
Special Defence: 65 -> 85 (+20)
Speed: 45 -> 65 (+20)
New Moves: Baton Pass
Description: Look. We let Bellossom have a 4.5 ability, and Bellossom has much better stats than Dunsparce. Therefore, I reserve the right to give this thing Simple. To make it not broken, I went ahead and gave it balanced stat boosts to make sure that Simple Coil wasn't too broken, and Dunsparce in general is more suited to Simple Coilpass.

Seviper-Mega
Ability: Shed Skin / Infiltrator -> Tough Claws
Typing: Poison -> Poison
HP: 73 -> 73 (+0)
Attack: 100 -> 140 (+40)
Defence: 60 -> 70 (+10)
Special Attack: 100 -> 70 (-30)
Special Defence: 60 -> 80 (+20)
Speed: 65 -> 115 (+60)
New Moves: Leaf Blade, Dragon Tail
Description: At this point I had a bulky mega and a support mega, so I decided to go with an all-out attacker as the last one. I gave Seviper Tough Claws to avoid giving it Sheer force (since that seems to be a popular option), and Leaf Blade and Dragon Tail provide extra coverage. The Stat boosts make it go physical instead of special, though, so keep that in mind.

I apologize, as I'm not very eloquent with descriptions.

So yeah, I kinda misjudged the ability limitation for Dunsparce, so I'll be raising the limit to 4.5. Sorry about that.

But to go along with that change, we've decided to limit how low stat decreases can drop. As of now, a Pokemon's base stats can't be lowered by anymore than a total of 30 points. So you can't lower two stats by 20 points, one stat by 35 points, etc..., so try to make the best of a Pokemon's stats. This change will be added to the OP for future reference.

Does that mean I have to edit my mega seviper?

So what you're actually saying is "If you want to do something to make the more lacklustre Pokémon on the slate competitive, you are now lumbered with whatever baffling stat distribution GameFreak cooked up for the poxy thing while its design team were all apparently on a bloody meth high, because basically screw you and the still-completely-useless Mega Rapidash you rode in on."

Joy.

Well, it's very much your party, and I can't convince you otherwise what a bad idea this is, but I am deeply, deeply bored by it. Dunsparce has a crap movepool, a crap BST, and its only decent ability is one it can't really use effectively on account of the first problem. It is not the only Pokémon to have this problem by a long shot, and while a Mega Evolution can't and shouldn't fix everything, this new bit of goalpost-moving means it's that bit harder to fix anything. I get that you want to discourage everything from following the same path as Mega Beedrill, but this is a supremely inept way to do it. I look forward to a docket of Mega Pokémon who are functionally indistinguishable from each other, which, in a fit of irony, is the thing I think you were trying to prevent.

Mega Arbok
Ability:
Mega Launcher
Typing: Poison/Dragon
HP: 60 (+0)
Attack: 85 (+0)
Defense: 84 (+15)
Special Attack: 115 (+50)
Special Defense: 99 (+20)
Speed: 95 (+15)
New Moves: Nasty Plot and Dragon Pulse
Design: Arbok turns into a spitting cobra! Arbok's fangs stick out a little and the head design is a little smaller. Arbok looks overall more agile.
Description: Arbok transitions into a special attacker. With a Mega Launcher boosted STAB Dragon Pulse, Mega Arbok can 2-shot most pokemon that don't resist it (or OHKO at a +2). With Fairies being a problem for Arbok's dragon STAB, Sludge Bomb and Sludge Wave can easily take them down. Steel types take super effective damage from Mud Bomb or Earthquake on a mixed set. Giga Drain and Dark Pulse are good coverage. Acid Spray or Nasty Plot can be used to break walls. HP Fire or Fire Fang can take down steel types not weak to ground.

Mega Dunsparce
Ability:
Unaware
Typing: Normal
HP: 100 (+0)
Attack: 85 (+15)
Defense: 110 (+40)
Special Attack: 80 (+15)
Special Defense: 90 (+25)
Speed: 50 (+5)
New Moves: Baton Pass and Heal Bell
Design: Dunsparce remains derpy. It's wings are still useless and it's eyes are still closed. It becomes slightly more serpentine and the chin and tail spike(s) become more prominent.
Description: Mega Dunsparce would have several roles in the metagame. One such role is a support. With cleric abilities in Heal Bell, sustain in Roost, and access to various supportive moves like Thunder Wave and Stealth Rock. Dunsparce can also function as a Baton Passer. It can pass Agilities, Coils and Calm Minds to it's teammates. We haven't even talked about it's ability yet - Unaware. Unaware makes Dunsparce a great Unaware tank who is bulkier than both Clefable and Quagsire. Just like Quagsire's Curse set and Clefable's CM set, Dunsparce can set up too with CM and Coil. It has a surprisingly deep movepool, which can only help the cause.

Mega Seviper
Ability:
Protean
Typing: Poison/Dark
HP: 73 (+0)
Attack: 150 (+50)
Defense: 45 (-15)
Special Attack: 150 (+50)
Special Defense: 45 (-15)
Speed: 95 (+30)
New Moves: Superpower and Ice Beam
Ability Justification: I realize that this is breaking the rules, but I have decent reason. While at first, Protean may seem a little broken, it really isn't. Unless it's hitting for super effective, it generally 2 shots. Even then, with only 4 moveslots, you can't hit everything for super effective. Bulkier pokemon can also live even a super effective hit. This seems like Greninja all over again, but the difference here is speed - 95 (or 65 if you don't have Protect) isn't too great for an offensive pokemon. The next underwhelming stat is Seviper's defenses - only 45 with below average HP. Most offensively inclined pokemon can one shot Seviper and even defensive pokemon often have enough damage to 2 shot it.
Design: Seviper becomes more thin and has a darker pallet. It appears to blend in with it's surroundings and instead of having a squiggly shaped body, it now coils around more. A light shroud of shadows envelope Seviper.
Description: With 150 mixed offenses and Protean, Seviper becomes an offensive powerhouse. It can abuse Protean with it's deep movepool consisting of Aqua Tail, Dark Pulse, Earthquake, Flamethrower, Giga Drain, Knock Off, Poison Jab, Sludge Bomb, Sludge Wave, Sucker Punch, X-Scissor, Superpower and Ice Beam while having Taunt, Coil, Dragon Tail, Substitute and Protect to help beat things it otherwise couldn't. This coverage allows Mega Seviper to hit all pokemon except pure fighting types, dark/ghost types and a couple others for super effective. Of course, Seviper severely suffers from 4 move slot syndrome.

Dunsparce-Mega
Ability: Serene Grace / Run Away / Rattled ----> Derp Force (Special Fur Coat clone)
Typing: Normal / Fairy

Stats:

HP: 100
Attack: 70 ----> 150 (+80)
Defense: 70 ----> 80 (+10)
Special Attack: 65 ----> 70 (+5)
Special Defense: 65 ----> 100 (+35)
Speed: 45 ----> 15 (-30)
Base Stat Total: 415 ----> 515
Movepool Additions: Extreme Speed, Play Rough
Competitive Description: Bulky Coil user, with STAB E-Speed.
Flavor Description: Still a chubby, derpy snake, but is now a much longer one, with much bigger wings.

Dunsparce
-Mega
Ability: Serene Grace/Run Away/Rattled -> Tinted Lens
Typing: Normal/Ghost
HP: 100 -> 100 (+0)
Attack: 70 -> 40 (-30)
Defense: 70 -> 105 (+35)
Special Attack: 65 -> 95 (+30)
Special Defense: 65 -> 85 (+20)
Speed: 45 -> 90 (+45)
Base Stat Total: 415 -> 515 (+100)
Movepool Additions: Quiver Dance, Hyper Voice
Description: OK, just going to say ahead of time that I'm throwing flavor right out the window for this one, but there's honestly not much to work with with regards to Dunsparce's pre-existing movepool that fits its pre-existing flavor, which is a shame because I really like Dunsparce... But moving on, Dunsparce fills two (semi-)unique niches here. It now gains access to the coveted Quiver Dance, alongside the Normal/Ghost typing which is excellent both offensively (it's nearly perfect neutral coverage when paired with Tinted Lens, only missing out on its own type) and defensively (only weakness is Dark, which is slightly alleviated by the fact that Mega Dunsparce takes less damage from Knock Off). Its stats aren't anything to boast about, unfortunately, but it makes a solid choice for teams in need of a bulky special set-up sweeper thanks to its unique combination of traits.

Arbok-Mega
Ability: Intimidate/Shed Skin/Unnerve -> Adaptability
Typing: Poison/Ground
HP: 60 -> 60 (+0)
Attack: 85 -> 115 (+30)
Defense: 69 -> 79 (+10)
Special Attack: 65 -> 65 (+0)
Special Defense: 79 -> 109 (+30)
Speed: 80 -> 110 (+30)
Base Stat Total: 438 -> 538 (+100)
Movepool Additions: Recover (wanted to give this PBlades but it's good enough as it is)
Description: Mega Arbok plays similarly to its standard form in that it's a set-up sweeper that revolves around the usage of Coil, only greatly improved. It now sports Adaptability as its ability to make its boosted Gunk Shots incredibly powerful; in addition to that, it now carries a secondary typing of Ground to make its standard coverage move of Earthquake far more powerful as well, plus granting it a useful immunity to Thunder Wave. It also now has access to reliable recovery in Recover to grant it extra sustainability, which it was lacking in before. Its Attack, Special Defense, and Speed all receive decent boosts to encourage its use of Coil, and it also receives a minor buff to Defense to slightly cushion physical blows before it starts setting up. That's not to say it doesn't have its flaws, though; a set running Coil/Gunk Shot/Earthquake/Recover is completely walled by the likes of Skarmory and Levitating Steels, and unless it chooses to run Sucker Punch (which requires forgoing recovery or a STAB) it gets revenge-killed by fast Psychics. That said, though, it's an excellent Mega overall.
edit 1: changed Dunsparce-Mega's stat distribution by reducing its attack by 30 instead of 5 and increasing its Defense by a further 20 and Speed by a further 5. it's still rather weak unboosted but that's because it's more focused on capitalizing on its bulk to set up than huge immediate power. still no seviper.

Ability: Shed Skin / Infiltrator -> Galvanate (Electric -Ate ability)
Typing: Poison -> Poison / Electric (I got inspiration from the yellow patches on it's head and body, surprisingly)

HP: 73 -> 73 (+0) (100 left)
Attack: 100 -> 120 (+20) (80 left)
Defence: 60 -> 74 (+4) (76 left)
Special Attack: 100 -> (+20) (56 left)
Special Defence: 60 -> 70 (+10) (46 left)
Speed: 65 -> 111 (+46) (0 left)

BST: 458 -> 558 (+100)

Appearance: Seviper's fangs turn a more blood coloured red, and change to look like lighting bolts. It gets a more streamlined head and body, and the yellow patches turn a darker, bolder yellow, all whilst becoming more lightning shaped.

New Moves: Extreme Speed, Thunder Fang.

WIP
Your stats are a little wonky. 60 defense plus 4 doesn't equal 74. I assume you meant 14. Your special attack says "100 -> (+20) (56 left)", not listing what it's new special attack is (120 presumably).

Arbok

Poison → Poison/Dark

HP: 60 → 60 (0)

Atk: 85 → 125 (+40)

Def: 69 → 75 (+6)

SpA: 65 → 73 (+8)

SpD: 79 → 85 (+6)

Spe: 80 → 120 (+40)

Intimidate/Shed Skin/Unnerve → Guts

  • Solid attack and speed stats.

  • Added Dark typing gives it only one weakness and gives it STAB on Sucker Punch

  • Gut prevents it from being crippled by status.

  • Quite frail. Even with only one weakness, Arbok still takes heavy damage.
Dunsparce

Normal → Normal/Ground

HP: 100 → 100 (0)

Atk: 70 → 95 (+25)

Def: 70 → 95 (+25)

SpA: 65 → 75 (+10)

SpD: 65 → 95 (+30)

Spe: 40 → 50 (+10)

Serene Grave/Run Away/Rattled → Serene Grace

New Moves: Earthquake

  • Solid bulk and decent attack. Access to a good setup move in Coil and reliable recovery in Roost allows Dunsparce to be a decent bulky attacker.

  • An added ground typing and Earthquake as a move prevents Dunsparce to be walled by most steel types.

  • Ground typing is a double edged sword, as it adds weaknesses to grass, water and ice.

  • Slow and without any Coil boosts can be KO'ed by powerful fighting types.
Seviper

Poison → Poison/Dark

HP: 73 → 73 (0)

Atk: 100 → 120 (+20)

Def: 60 → 60 (0)

SpA: 100 → 130 (+30)

SpD: 60 → 60 (0)

Spe: 65 → 115 (+50)

Shed Skin/Infiltrator → Adaptability

  • 120/130 gives Seviper solid mixed attacking stats

  • 115 is a massive and need speed upgrade since Seviper doesn't have the bulk to be slow.

  • Secondary dark typing makes sense since it's based on a snake. It also learns a significant amount of dark type moves.

  • Adaptability gives a massive boost to Seviper STAB moves, allowing it to hit even harder.

  • Unable to boost its special attack, and while it has Coil to boost its attack, Seviper is too frail to try and set up with it.

While I think this was a little harsh, I do agree with what she's saying. I would hope that this limitation is at least on a case by case basis since some Pokemon need some severe help to be useful.

Agreed with this. I don't think it's a glaring issue right now, though the "drop one stat completely to give a massive boost to the other" isn't a popular choice anyways.

Arbok-Mega
Ability: Contaminate (Poison-ate)
Typing: Poison / Steel
Stats: 60 / 125 (+40) / 99 (+30) / 45 (-20) / 109 (+30) / 100 (+20) (538)
Movepool Additions: Extreme Speed and Iron Head.
Description: This mega is the ultimate stop to fairy types without Earthquake and can destroys stuff with the underrated poison typing. Added bulk and Intimidate let it set up and destroy opponents with Coil and Extreme Speed. Aqua Tail is recommended due to it defeating pesky Ground types, too.

Dunsparce-Mega
Ability: Multiscale
Typing: Normal
Stats: 100 / 105 (+35) / 105 (+35) / 90 (+25) / 100 (+35) / 5 (-30) (515)
Movepool Additions: Slack Off, Extreme Speed
Description: I'm taking the Snorlax approach here: The mega stone comes with a lifetime supply of fast food, and upon evolution Dunsparce becomes a big, fat jelly worm with very distinct scales poking out from everywhere. Flavour-wise, this justifies the Spe drops and allows Dunsparce to be a strong defensive or offensive Mon with great stats.

Seviper-Mega
Ability: Tenebrate (Dark Refrigerate)
Typing: Poison / Dark
Stats: 73 / 150 (+50) / 30 (-15) / 150 (+50) / 30 (-15) / 95 (+30) (558)
Movepool Additions: Extreme Speed and U-turn.
Description: Offensive glass cannon which reminds me of mega Beedrill. Very weak to priority but can run either offence powerfully.
