Choice Specs
########
name: Choice Specs
move 1: Hyper Voice
move 2: Psychic
move 3: Shadow Ball / Dazzling Gleam
move 4: U-turn / Focus Blast
ability: Serene Grace
item: Choice Specs
evs: 4 Def / 252 SpAtk / 252 Spe
Nature: Timid

Moves
========
  • Hyper Voice is Meloetta's most powerful STAB move that goes through Substitute, making it a powerful asset. Only thing to worry about is Pokemon with Soundproof.
  • Psychic is the other STAB move that Meloetta gets in Aria Forme, being able to take out huge threats such as Fighting-types or the ever lovely wall Amooguss.
  • Shadow Ball is mainly dedicated to hitting Doublade and Slowking harder than Meloetta's other moves, being able to OHKO the former after Stealth Rock damage. Not to mention it is a strong move to use against other Ghost- or Psychic-type Pokemon, such as Cofgrigus and Jellicent.
  • Considering the fact that Meloetta is easy fodder for Spiritomb, not wanting to risk getting Pursuit trapped, running Dazzling Gleam gives Meloetta a chance to OHKO Spiritomb on a switch in, granted Stealth Rocks are up or prior damage has been dealt. However, even Specs Dazzling Gleam only has a 43% chance of OHKOing Spiritomb after Stealth Rock damage. However, if you choose to run Dazzling Gleam over Shadow Ball, Doublade has an opportunity to set up by not fearing an OHKO and potentially sweep, as Psychic only does around 48% damage.
  • Having U-turn allows for Meloetta to keep up offensive momentum while getting off chip damage on the opposing Pokemon.
  • Focus Blast is to primarily hit things harder than the other moves could, such as Steel-types like Magneton or Registeel.

Set Details
========
  • 252 EVs in Special Attack allows for the hardest hitting moves to be dealt.
  • With 252 Speed EVs, Meloetta caps at 279, which is nothing to scoff at.
  • Since Meloetta requires a 252/252+ Special Attack/Speed EV spread, there is no room for mass investment in the Defenses, leaving it with only 4 EVs put into Defense.
  • Timid helps Meloetta hit maximum Speed for it's speed tier, allowing it to outspeed any other base 90 Pokemon that isn't fully invested in Speed.
  • Choices Specs are also there to ensure that nothing can switch in on a neutral attack easily.

Usage Tips
========
  • Meloetta only works well when obvious checks to it are removed, such as opposing Sharpedos, pursuit trappers, and Knock Off users.
  • Meloetta is very easy to play around once it is locked into a move, and should be handled with care in that respect.
  • Has great special bulk, but lacks recovery of any form, so take that into consideration before making frivolous switches into Meloetta.
  • U-turn is to be utilized if an opponent has a Registeel or Spiritomb still active on their team, allowing you to keep up offensive momentum without having to risk facing either of these Pokemon 1-on-1. If all Dark-types and Slowking are gone, it is safe to use Psychic as a safe play, hitting many things for large damage. Alternatively, if all of the Ghost-types on the opposing team are gone, Hyper Voice is a move better suited to be used.

Team Options
========
  • Meloetta works best with a physical attacker that can sponge up Dark-type attacks, especially on the physical side. Gurdurr works best for this, being a nice switch for Meloetta, while being a powerful attacker with the potential to sweep on it's own.
  • Again, going back on the fact that Meloetta has no recovery on it's own, having Alomomola as a Wish passer is a great method of ensuring Melottea gets to tear through the opposing team for a longer period of time. (Ugh, cancer fish.)
  • Another physical attacker that helps cover typing that Meloetta cannot on it's own is Sharpedo, being able to harm most of the meta with it's dual STAB + Ice Beam. Coupling it with Meloetta maximizes the offensive pressure of the team.
  • -insert obligatory hazards setter, such as the newly bumped to RU Omastar, which can set up all three hazards on it's own.
  • Meloetta also loves having Dugtrio as a support revenge killer, seeing as Meloetta can substantially weaken an opposing Pokemon, allowing Dugtrio to easily come in, trap it, and KO it. Another purpose behind having Dugtrio is to trap Pokemon that Meloetta dislike having to deal with on it's own, such as Registeel or Drapion, being able to U-turn out to Dugtrio and trap them. This gives Meloetta more leeway along with any other Pokemon that struggles dealing with Registeel, allowing for an easier time.
  • Emboar would be the best check to Spiritomb for Meloetta, being a strong physical attacker immune to Will-O-Wisp, as well as resisting Sprititomb's STAB. Not only that, but Emboar is able to help deal with Registeel and Doublade to an extent.
  • Having another Pokemon with access to Volt Switch or U-turn helps Meloetta keep up offensive pressure, and a Pokemon that hits hard is Rotom-Mow or Braviary, respectively. Rotom-Mow can either Volt Switch out on an opposing Pokemon or proceed to hit a Rock- or Ground-type Pokemon hard with Leaf Storm, while Braviary can slightly weaken such Pokemon, namely Rhydon, to the point where Meloetta can do huge damage with Psychic.
  • Seeing as Meloetta is barely able to put a dent in Registeel without Focus Blast, having assistance from Virizion and Cobalion is something that is greatly encouraged. They are both able to set up on it, providing they either carry a Lum Berry or Substitute, or the Registeel doesn't have Thunder Wave. These two Pokemon also assist in taking out Sharpedo, not fearing it much, barring an Ice Beam against Virizion. Asides from that, both of these Pokemon can sponge any Knock Off, receiving an Attack boost in the process.
  • Another Fighting-type Pokemon that can sponge Dark-type moves, bar Knock Off, would be Gurdurr. It helps alleviate pressure from Meloetta as a safe switch in to Dark-type moves, while having a respectable offensive pressure on its own.

Choice Specs Meloetta is already on site (although it does need some fixing to reflect a more current set), but I think the changes can be made with the HTML and we don't need a whole new C&C process for it. I'm not 100% sure though, so maybe Molk or SilentVerse can answer that o.o

Just going to drop by and say that outside of a revenge killer role, the other (and main) reason that Dugtrio is a great teammate for Meloetta is because quite a few of the Pokemon that check it are easily trapped by the mole. Stuff like Registeel and Drapion absolutely hates having a Dugtrio thrown right up in their face, and because of Meloetta's access to U-turn, it's quite good at baiting them in and simply U-turning out on the switch in, checkmating with Dugtrio. From there, it gets much easier for Meloetta to wallbreak herself, and every other mon on the team that struggles with say Registeel will have a significantly easier time too.

This DEFINITELY needs a big mention in team options

You still mention Thunderbolt in Moves. Replace it with Focus Blast and talk about why you'd use it.

Also, I think something for Spiritomb would be helpful in Team Options. I like Emboar, as it's immune to Will-O-Wisp and resists Spiritomb's Dark-type STAB. Also helps deal with Registeel.

You don't explain what U-turn does in moves.

Also, would Dazzling Gleam be an option seeing as how Meloetta is a Spiritomb magnet? Maybe a mention in moves?

edit: also, add something like U-turn Braviary and other U-turn/Volt Switch users seeing as they can make quite a good voltturn core, especially because Braviary lures in Rhyperior which takes a hefty amount of damage from Meloetta's Psychic.

I also believe you should give Dugtrio its own bulletpoint and not under "meloetta likes revenge killers". you should put something like

- Dugtrio is a great partner as it can trap the opposing Registeel and Drapion that Meloetta lures in and U-turns out of
not literally, just the idea.

Spirit got all the fancy things added in, and the reason behind it having so many 'changes' needed is due to the fact that I've been writing these at the same time I have to write essays for school normally, which you can obviously assume will take precedence. My bad doe. Thanks for the feedback and stuffs.

Considering the fact that Meloetta is easy fodder for Spiritomb, not wanting to risk getting Pursuit trapped, running Dazzling Gleam allows for Meloetta to deal with it in a one vs. one situation.
Eh, it's not 1v1 as much as it is hitting it on the switch, because it doesn't OHKO while Spiritomb OHKOs with Sucker Punch. It needs a little bit of prior damage and/or stealth rock:

252 SpA Choice Specs Meloetta Dazzling Gleam vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Spiritomb: 242-286 (79.6 - 94%) -- 43.8% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

So make sure to make note of that. Also, switch the sentences for U-turn and Focus Blast in Moves, because U-turn is slashed before Focus Blast.

Shadow Ball is to hit the Pokemon that would otherwise wall Meloetta with ease: Doublade. It also hits other Psychic-type and Ghost-type Pokemon hard.
This isn't true;

252 SpA Choice Specs Meloetta Psychic vs. 212 HP / 0 SpD Eviolite Doublade: 128-151 (41 - 48.3%) -- 8.2% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock
252 SpA Choice Specs Meloetta Psychic vs. 212 HP / 0 SpD Eviolite Doublade: 128-151 (41 - 48.3%) -- 69.5% chance to 2HKO after 1 layer of Spikes

wouldn't exactly call that 'with ease' tbh. instead, mention it OHKOs Doublade.

Under usage tips, definitely have something to explain when to use U-turn. That would be if the opponent has a Registeel you think he's going to switch into, or Spiritomb. Also mention when to use Psychic (when Dark-types and slowking aren't there), and when to use Hyper Voice (when Ghosts aren't there).

Meloetta works best with a physical attacker that can sponge up Dark-type attacks, especially on the physical side. Gurdurr works best for this, being a nice switch for Meloetta, while being a powerful attacker with the potential to sweep on it's own.
Definitely mention both Virizion and Cobalion here. Not only are they good Sharpedo checks, but they can also sponge knock offs and appreciate the Justified boost. Additionally, they both can set up on Registeel provided they have Lum Berry or the opposing Regi doesnt have t-wave.

Lol math, you so funny Arikado. But yeah, fixed all that stuff, didn't realize I had U-turn slashed before Focus Blast. How silly of me.

Add Trick to OO / Moves imo, it's a great way to cripple: Registeel, Escavalier, Doublade, Spiritomb, Slowking*, SpDef Drapion, Reuniclus*$, and more.

*specially attacking; have something sitting in the back to take a hit from these.
$: Reuniclus is only crippled if it's Calm Mind; OTR hits hard with it.

QC REJECTED 1/3

this meloetta set is like the #1 set in terms of relevance, so i (and qc in general as far as i'm aware) think that it's better to reassign it. sorry about that :[

QC Rejected 3/3. Sorry, but for the primary set on Meloetta, one of the biggest threats in RU, we need it to be very high quality (everything does, but sets like these especially) :(
