Overview
########
Once at the top of the tier, Mienfoo remains an excellent bulky offensive pivot in this metagame. It can support the team through the newly buffed Knock Off and remain healthy throughout the match with the nigh-exclusive combination of U-turn and Regenerator. It has the ability check prevalent Pokemon such as Tirtouga, Carvanha, and Pawniard, beating them using its powerful Fighting-type STAB, while also boasting decent Eviolite-boosted bulk and excellent survivability thanks to Regenerator. However, its typing leaves it walled by Fairy- and Ghost-types and also beaten out by common Flying-types. It also despises status, with burn lowering its damage output and delivering chip damage and paralysis eliminating its Speed advantage. It receives competition from Timburr as a bulky pivot, but Mienfoo holds better longevity because of U-turn and Regenerator.

Drain Punch is the key move on the set, letting Mienfoo KO several notable threats in the metagame, such as Pawniard and Tirtouga. Knock Off is an amazing move, taking items from opponents and hitting threats like Slowpoke and Misdreavus for solid damage. U-turn preserves momentum, lets Mienfoo get out of a bad situation, and activates Regenerator. Fake Out helps Mienfoo get chip damage and can be used to break Sturdy. However, be be careful not to spam it, as it is predictable and can offer free switch-ins to your opponent. Only use it when the chip damage is absolutely necessary. Taunt prevents setup, keeps opponents from crippling Mienfoo with status, blocks recovery, and is especially useful with Mienfoo's decent Speed. High Jump Kick is an option if power is necessary, but the lack of longevity is an issue.

Set Details
========

In this set, Speed is maximized and bulk is optimized, enhancing Mienfoo's ability to deal with Pawniard. Without the Speed investment, standard Pawniard outspeeds and KOes with a +2 Iron Head, even if Mienfoo has maximum bulk. If you aren't particularly concerned about Pawniard, a spread of 156 HP / 116 Def / 196 SpD with an Impish nature maximizes bulk, but if Mienfoo is running Taunt, this is not advised. Eviolite is chosen to enhance Mienfoo's bulk and Regenerator provides extra healing.

Usage Tips
========

This set is geared towards bulky offense and balanced teams, either as glue or part of a VoltTurn core. It should be used as a pivot, tanking resisted hits and hitting something with Knock Off, KOing with Drain Punch if necessary, and switching out with U-turn. If your opponent has something faster that threatens Mienfoo, such as Abra or Murkrow, it should not use U-turn, but should instead switch out manually. This set excels early- to mid-game, where it can target key threats and either cripple them or take them out.

Team Options
========

Mienfoo works well as part of a VoltTurn core. Chinchou can beat Murkrow and other Flying-types while also helping with Slowpoke. Magnemite can do this as well, but but it trades bulk for the ability to beat the Fairy-types that wall Mienfoo. Vullaby and Larvesta can beat Foongus and Croagunk and also have U-turn. A Regenerator core can be formed alongside Slowpoke and Foongus, creating a highly durable trio that can spread status and Knock Off items to weaken foes, weakening the opposing team for a late-game sweep. Foongus beats Spritzee, Slowpoke beats Fletchling, and Mienfoo beats bulky special walls that block the other two. Other Fighting-types, as well as Dwebble and Tirtouga, appreciate Mienfoo's ability to use Knock Off on walls such as Slowpoke and Spritzee.

Don't spam it if your opponent still has a Ghost-type, as you run the risk of Mienfoo losing half of its health. Knock Off goes well with a Choice Scarf set, as it can surprise something that would normally be faster than Mienfoo and helps clear out Ghost-types. Drain Punch should be used when you don't want to risk a High Jump Kick miss and need to revenge something. U-turn should be used on predicted switches and activates Regenerator. Stone Edge is also an option in order to hit Larvesta, giving it utility over Drain Punch.

Set Details
========

The EVs are standard for an offensive Pokemon, maximizing Attack and Speed, and an Adamant nature is chosen as with a Choice Scarf, Mienfoo still hits 24 Speed. The Special Defense EVs let Mienfoo survive Misdreavus's Dazzling Gleam from full health. Choice Scarf fits the revenge killer and cleaner role of this set, and Regenerator is the best of Mienfoo's abilities.

Usage Tips
========

This set should spam Knock Off and U-turn early game, using Mienfoo's STAB to revenge kill when needed. High Jump Kick is powerful enough to clean up late-game once all Pokemon that resist or are immune to it have been removed. This set fits best on an fast offensive team, where the utility given by the Eviolite set is not needed.

Team Options
========

This set works best on a VoltTurn team, and appreciates partners such as Magnemite, Chinchou, and Archen, which can help to beat Flying-types. Larvesta and Vullaby are also appreciated, as they can beat threats such as Foongus and Croagunk. Pursuit Pawniard is a really good teammate, easily removing Misdreavus and other Ghost-types, allowing Mienfoo to clean up late-game. Late-game sweepers, such as Tirtouga, appreciate Mienfoo's Knock Off support.

Mienfoo can use it if your team is especially weak to Pokemon such as Dwebble or Tirtouga, although this is better done by the bulky attacker set. If you do include Fake Out, make sure not to give your opponents free switch-in opportunities, and although the chip damage is nice, the Life Orb recoil can add up, even if Mienfoo switches out. Stone Edge can be used for Larvesta, which otherwise walls Mienfoo and can burn it with Flame Body. It also hits Ponyta on the switch without risking a burn, but should only be done when it is in the KO range. Poison Jab gives Mienfoo the ability to 2HKO Spritzee if it has already lost its item to Knock Off.

Set Details

Usage Tips
========

This set is best off used as a hit-and-run attacker on bulky offense or offensive teams that need a longer-lasting wallbreaker and don't require the bulk of the main set. It is a little tougher to play with as it can't really take hits and is hard to switch in due to its frailty. This set isn't nearly as reliable against Pawniard, as it is beaten by a combination of Knock Off and Sucker Punch if it's at +2, and Iron Head flat out OHKOes Mienfoo on the switch. Nonetheless, the power of this set is immense, and the strength the Knock Off + U-turn is further amplified by Life Orb. Mienfoo can even manage to KO a full-health Slowpoke with this combination. This set works well early- to mid-game to weaken your opponent's team by smashing opposing Pokemon with High Jump Kick and Knock Off.

Team Options
========

This set works best on VoltTurn teams thanks to the greater ease of switching in. It appreciates teammates such as Larvesta and Vullaby, which can beat Croagunk and Foongus for it. Checks for Flying-types, such as Chinchou and Archen, are also appreciated. Late-game sweepers such as Scraggy, Tirtouga, and Misdreavus also appreciate the wallbreaking and Knock Off support.


Other Options
########

Mienfoo has a few other options that it can utilize. A SubPass set with Life Orb or Eviolite can be used on Baton Pass teams. It can use a Reckless set with High Jump Kick for even more power, but Regenerator is usually more advantageous. Force Palm is a unique option; its paralysis chance is the same as Scald's burn rate, and it can paralyze threats such as Ponyta and Murkrow.


Checks & Counters
########

**Fairy-types**: Fairy-types, most namely Spritzee, resist most of Mienfoo's common moves and usually have the bulk to take them. They can KO Mienfoo with their STAB moves or simply use it as setup bait.

**Poison-types**: Poison-types resist Mienfoo's STAB, and some are bulky enough to take most other hits. Foongus can constantly check Mienfoo thanks to Regenerator and can cripple it with Stun Spore. Koffing can burn it, Grimer has Sticky Hold, and Tentacool can switch in on Drain Punch to hurt it with Liquid Ooze.

**Misdreavus**: Misdreavus can KO Mienfoo with Dazzling Gleam, burn it with Will-O-Wisp, and take its attacks relatively well, but it doesn't like Knock Off.

**Slowpoke**: Slowpoke has the bulk to take most of Mienfoo's attacks, although it won't like U-turn or Knock Off, and is KOed by the combination from the Life Orb set.

**Flame Body Users**: Flame Body users have a chance to burn Mienfoo, effectively neutering its offensive prowess and hampering its survivability. Larvesta resists its STAB and can threaten to KO with Flare Blitz. Ponyta outspeeds Mienfoo and also threatens a KO with Flare Blitz.

**Flying-types**: Fletchling and other offensive Flying-types can take Mienfoo out with their Flying-type STAB moves, and most are faster than it. Fletchling can completely bypass Mienfoo with Acrobatics, but it cannot KO if it still holds an item. However, most Flying-types have trouble switching in, as a lot of them are neutral to Fighting-type moves.

**Abra**: Abra outspeeds Mienfoo and can OHKO it with Psychic, but has trouble switching in.

  • The EVs optimize bulk and maximize speed to outspeed standard Pawniard, as otherwise you would be KOed by a +2 Iron Head. You could run more attack, but the speed is necessary with the current metagame.
  • A slower set of 236 HP / 116 Def / 116 SDef with an Impish nature can be used if you don't need the extra speed.
  • Eviolite is the obvious choice, increasing its ability to tank hits, and due it already receiving reliable recovery through Regenerator.
Usage Tips
========
  • This set works well as glue or part of a VoltTurn core.
  • Makes for a great pivot on bulky offense and balanced teams, although offensive teams may enjoy its attributes, keep in mind it may not be fast to enough to keep up with faster offensive teams.
  • This Mienfoo is amazing early- to mid-game, and should be switching in and out often to cripple things and recover health while giving constant momentum.
  • The combination of Knock Off + U-turn is huge, and gives lots of momentum, especially early game, when you should be hitting slower stuff like Spritzee and Slowpoke with Knock Off and U-turning out to recover 33% of your health.
Team Options
========
  • Chinchou is perhaps the best partner to Mienfoo, forming a VoltTurn core and beating Murkrow (bulky Chou does this better) and Gligar (scarf does this best, soak Chou works too), while Mienfoo handles bulky special walls and can Knock Off their item. Archen can also be used, but it needs HP Ice to beat Gligar.
  • Magnemite forms a VoltTurn core as well, and can beat fairies for Mienfoo.
  • Vullaby or Larvesta can be used to beat Foongus and Croagunk, and have the benefit of forming a U-turn core.
  • This set forms an amazing and highly durable regen core with Foongus and Slowpoke. The other two can wall fighting types, Foongus beats Spritzee, Slowpoke beats Gligar, and they spread status for the team to help stuff set up. They appreciate Mienfoo's ability to knock off and further weaken threats, and it can beat bulky special walls like Munchlax and Porygon that the other two despise.
  • Other fighting types, particularly Scraggy and Meditite who can wreck lategame, appreciate Meditite's ability to Knock Off their checks, notably Foongus, Spritzee, and Slowpoke.
  • Dwebble and Tirtouga also appreciate Mienfoo's ability to Knock Off bulky mons like Slowpoke, Spritzee, and Foongus.

Alright, so basically LO Mienfoo just slaps shit around really hard. High Jump Kick is strong af, Knock Off nails Ghost- and Psychic-types and is generally amazing, and U-turn hits the occasional bulky Psychic-type like Slowpoke and anything else you want to flee from while also allowing you to regain HP with Regenerator. Low Sweep was something we were talking about on IRC earlier that's really cool. Getting to drop the Speed of any potential switch-in is awesome, and it can allow you to U-turn out on faster stuff (like Gligar) that walls you because you'll outspeed it. Fake Out is just nice priority ofc.

Also on the Scarf set, High Jump Kick is the new spelling for it.

On the bulky pivot set in Set Details, don't even bother mentioning that the HP EVs let Mienfoo switch in on Stealth Rock more; Regenerator and a Stealth Rock resistance pretty much render this pointless. It might also be worth it to slash High Jump Kick with Drain Punch. The only really relevant Ghost-type right now is Misdreavus, which absolutely hates to switch in on Knock Off. I know I run HJK on all my Mienfoo these days, but maybe that's just my personal preference.

Yeah that was something I was gonna test. I'll add that set in tomorrow when I can get on the computer, but I put everything else in place.

  • Should HP Ice get a main set mention anywhere, or should I just drop it to OO?
  • Opinions and things to note on the Scarf set? I don't have much time to work with that tbh

  • Hidden Power Ice is awesome for nailing Gligar. However, I don't think it belongs on any of the main sets for the analysis, but definitely give it a special mention in Other Options. All of the movesets here appear optimal and Mienfoo really has everything it could possibly want. It can U-turn out of Gligar or remove its item with Knock Off. Acrobatics won't be doing much to the Bulky Attacker set before item loss, despite the super effective damage bonus. I know you didn't add Hidden Power Ice here, but I'm just answering your above question. ♥
  • The Choice Scarf set actually looks pretty clear cut to me. I was going to suggest having Stone Edge share a slash with Drain Punch on it, but I honestly cannot think of a purpose for it in the current metagame. Yanma would be the only real reason to run it and it's no longer a factor.
  • Definitely add Treecko's Life Orb set, and Fake Out is fine where it is there.

I can't give you QC approval yet, as your tag is still WIP. As of right now, however, this looks damn good as far as I'm concerned. ♥

I think you should really put emphasis on what separates mienfoo from meditite, being not only knock off, but also regenerator and u-turn, which allows to come in multiple times in the match to counter / check with much more consistency than meditite.

Not given this too much of a look but put other fighting-types as team-mates, particularly Meditite and Scraggy. With Knock Off, Mienfoo can really help weaken their checks (spritzee, foongus, slowpoke etc...) allowing another fighting type to come in and wreck shit.

Mienfoo, Slowpoke, and Foongus are an amazing defensive core, with the only overall weakness being Ghost, Psychic, and Flying. They all have recovery of some sort, Mienfoo gets momentum with U-Turn while Slowpoke and Foongus spread status, and the overall difficulty to beat them is hard, due to Regenerator. By the time you break down the core, your team is statused and weak to the point where a sweeper can easily clean up. The core should definitely get a mention.
 
Yeah many teams use that regenerator core. Thanks for bringing that up though, I'll mention that.

I'd also talk about how Mienfoo should be switching in reasonably often early-mid game as it can just heal anything due to regenerator and provides consistent momentum for the team.
Team Options:
Vullaby and Larvesta takes on stuff like Foongus and Croagunk which Mienfoo struggles with and form a voltturn core. Anything that appreciates Knock Off, especially against things like Foongus, Slowpoke, Spritzee who you've already mentioned - Tirtouga is a really solid one which appreciates these being knocked off, so does Dwebble.

Choice Scarf:
Swap U-turn and Drain Punch in set order, U-turn is obligatory, Drain Punch isn't
Personally I think something can be slashed with Drain Punch here, Mienfoo doesn't really need the recovery and wants to be spamming HJK as its main STAB... Though thinking about it there isn't much besides Stone Edge and Poison Jab... Ask QC to weigh in on this one imo.
Moves:
obligatory mention of how HJK is pretty risky.
at least mentions of Poison Jab (2hkos spritzee after knock off) and stone edge should be here in my opinion, even if they're not slashed.
Usage Tips:
Like the previous set, talk about how early game is Knock Off or U-turn spam, but unlike the other set, this mienfoo can actually support itself for a late game sweep with HJK.
Mention the stuff that this Mienfoo can revenge as well, It can easily take out a +1 Scraggy, a +2 tirtouga, if sturdy is broken, Murkrow, Berry Juice Misdreavus, weakened Eviolite Misdreavus.
Team Options:
should be pretty similar to set one really, emphasis on the Voltturners, Vullaby in particular shuts down Foongus which hard counters the set, Larvesta and Chinchou should also get a mention. Mention Pursuit Pawniard who appreciates the Knock Off support and can remove Ghosts from the game.

Life Orb:
Moves:
mention stuff that Low Sweep is actually useful against... Murkrow, Gligar are the main ones, then it can KO or fast uturn out.
in fact i'm not sure if Low Sweep is worth a slash, these are the only mons that are affected that much, and Murkrow probably won't switch in cos it mostly runs LO and is frail and all it can do vs. Gligar is u-turn straight away. it's not as if it 'lures' anything that well... QC weight in on this as well
Usage Tips:
Mention some stuff that this Mienfoo can surprise and kill... Knock Off or Knock Off+UTurn 2hkos Slowpoke, for example..
you touched upon this slightly, but mention how it is much harder to switch in, cos its actually kinda frail.
Team Options:
Voltturners blah blah blah.
anything that appreciates the wall breaking prowess of LO Knock Off mienfoo. Gligar likes slowpoke removed for a start, maybe some more shit.

Other Options:
Taunt can stop bulky walls from doing much (like foongus)
Stone Edge
Poison Jab
Baton Pass (with sub, swords dance, maybe calm mind or bulk up but they suck lol)
I guess manual weather as well, it has regenerator which allows it to support its team multiple times.

Checks:
mention that gligar doesn't even mind knock off that much
along with foongus, there are other poisons like, Koffing (will-o-wisp), Grimer (sticky hold) and tentacool (liquid ooze)
Abra outspeeds and OHKOs
Flame Body: Larvesta resits STAB threatens with Flame Body, Ponyta threatens with Flame Body and outspeeds it.

my thoughts:

most of the shit seems cool so far. i want a lot of emphasis on the fact that fake out on the bulky attacker should not be the go to move early on; it should be to break sturdies, put in vital chip damage near the end. also, i'd like to see taunt baing slashed in. taunt is huge at defeating shit like foongus which loves switching in, shile also being a genersl utility vs shit lije the popular swirlix, which would think foo is set up bait. also, modfy the ev spread imo to hit 16 apeed on thr bulky attacker. you dont want to lose to pawn without any chance. personally i would always try to hit 17 spe in this meta with foo so you can outspeed it gusrantee and easily ko it since its such a notable threat. te lack of mention of subpass lo is rrally sad also; that set is wonderful and deserves a mention 100% in othrr options. note that that set can be used with evio as welll thoigh. overall seems cool, good work.
 
I added the stuff about fake out and changed the spread on the bulky set. Since the iPad can only do so much, I'll put in everything else tomorrow when I can get on a real computer. Also, I'm not sure where you want taunt slashed. I'd assume the bulky set, but should it be after Fake Out?

And yeah should I slash something after dpunch on the scarf set, or maybe drop low sweep on lo?

Low Sweep isn't on the Scarf set. And there's not really anything else that good on the Scarf set. Maybe Stone Edge? But most are hit hard enough by Knock Off already.

I think the main target of Stone Edge is Larvesta, but I guess it also hits Mantyke and a few less than notable pokemon.

yeah taunt should be slashed after fake out. honestly the scarf set is v limited, since stone edge isnt as useful due to the ban of yanma, but it should still be slashed after drain punch. hp ice is one move i like putting on scarf, but it doesnt warrant slashing.

  • Hidden Power Ice is awesome for nailing Gligar. However, I don't think it belongs on any of the main sets for the analysis, but definitely give it a special mention in Other Options. All of the movesets here appear optimal and Mienfoo really has everything it could possibly want. It can U-turn out of Gligar or remove its item with Knock Off. Acrobatics won't be doing much to the Bulky Attacker set before item loss, despite the super effective damage bonus. I know you didn't add Hidden Power Ice here, but I'm just answering your above question. ♥
  • The Choice Scarf set actually looks pretty clear cut to me. I was going to suggest having Stone Edge share a slash with Drain Punch on it, but I honestly cannot think of a purpose for it in the current metagame. Yanma would be the only real reason to run it and it's no longer a factor.
  • Definitely add Treecko's Life Orb set, and Fake Out is fine where it is there.
I can't give you QC approval yet, as your tag is still WIP. As of right now, however, this looks damn good as far as I'm concerned. ♥
A continuation from my previous post, but I'd like to recommend a few other things after more thought.

  • Definitely add Foongus and Slowpoke to Team Options, as with Mienfoo they form an incredible Regenerator core that is incredibly hard to break down, especially now that Yanma can't threaten them with its Bug/Flying STABs anymore. Also add a special mention of VoltTurn to Chinchou's mention in Team Options.
  • Poison Jab should get a mention in Other Options for hitting Fairy-types, and this is particularly important since they resist all of Mienfoo's other standard attacks. Add emphasis to Mienfoo's Baton Pass capabilities in Other Options as well, as it can pass a ton of moves as part of a chain, including Swords Dance, Bulk Up, Work Up, and Calm Mind. I'd also mention Force Palm somewhere, as its paralysis chance is equal to Scald's burn chance, and can be used to punish incoming walls; this is interesting against Gligar, as it can paralyze it while the most common means of paralysis in the tier, Thunder Wave, is unable to.

I'm kinda wondering if Low Sweep is still worth a slot on the Life Orb set, and I'd like a little more QC input for Taunt on the first set. And Stone Edge only really hits Larvesta any harder than anything else on the scarf set, so I'd like some more input there.

just posting to say I agree with dcae. I really believe the main spread should look something like 76 HP / 196 Def / 236 Spe Jolly. Hittnig 17 speed means you beat Pawniard all the through the game instead of just being KOd by a +2 iron head once your eviolite has gone. I would never run Mienfoo without hitting 17 speed these days.

I'll go ahead and make that the main spread again. Should I mention the slower spread still?

edit: Just to clarify, I'm changing this out of my own opinion. The ability to beat Pawniard in a meta where it's so prominent should not be passed up. If enough QC members feel the set should have more power and bulk, I will change it back.
