    The amazing Swords Dance Jetter!

    status: done!

    [Overview]

    • Also known as Wotter or Oshawott
    • Very similar to its fellow Water-type starter, Totodile
    • Higher SpA then Totodile and slightly more bulky on special side
    • Better support options than Totodile, but lacks Brick Break and Ice Punch
    • Comparisons to Totodile aside, Mijumaru is an average Water-type and, should stall teams become common, has the potential to be a decent stallbreaker
    [Set]
    name: Swords Dance
    move 1: Swords Dance
    move 2: Aqua Jet
    move 3: Night Slash
move 4: Encore / Aerial Ace / Frustration
item: Life Orb / Berry Juice
    nature: Adamant
    evs: 236 Atk / 236 Spe

    [Set Comments]

    • This set focuses on sweeping with STAB Aqua Jet
    • After a Swords Dance, Mijumaru hits 32 Attack, which is more than enough needed to sweep an unprepared or weakened team
    • Aqua Jet gets priority and STAB, making it your main attacking move
    • Night Slash hits most Pokemon that resist Aqua Jet, most notable being Pururiru. The only Pokemon that resists Water / Dark in Little Cup are Carvanha, Croagunk with Dry Skin and Teshiido
    • Encore can be used to give Mijumaru more time to set up
    • Aerial Ace gets perfect coverage with Aqua Jet and Night Slash, but its low base power makes it unappealing
    • Frustration has higher base power than Aerial Ace, but you lose coverage on Teshiido
    • Frustration is used over Return since nobody could love something so ugly
    [Additional Comments]

    • The choice between Life Orb and Berry Juice is mostly preference. Berry Juice works better with Encore, though
    • Mijumaru appreciates Stealth Rock and screen support. Bronzor is the best provider, since Mijumaru can switch in on Fire-type moves directed at Bronzor
    • Grass-types work well with Mijumaru. Snover, Treecko and Teshiido are a few examples of Pokemon that are great teammates
    [Set]

    name: LOtter
    move 1: Hydro Pump
    move 2: Ice Beam
    move 3: Hidden Power Grass
    move 4: Aqua Jet
    item: Life Orb
    nature: Mild
    evs: 80 Atk / 176 SpA / 236 Spe

    [Set Comments]

    • No set up, no gimmicks, no support. Just let loose with this set
    • Hydro Pump is Mijumaru's most powerful move, making it an obvious choice
    • Ice Beam gets excellent coverage with Hydro Pump, hitting Grass-types and Dragon-types
    • Hidden Power Grass gets perfect coverage alongside Hydro Pump and Ice Beam, so it is an excellent choice
    • Aqua Jet for revenge killing and priority
    [Additional Comments]

    • Choice Scarf is an option if you want Mijumaru to be a revenge killer
    • Stealth Rock and Spikes support is highly recommended when using this set. Ishizumai is one of the best providers of both
    • Offensive Grass-types, like Treecko and Shikijika, are excellent teammates
    • Mijumaru is slow, so paralysis or even Trick Room support is appreciated
    [Set]

    name: Lead
    move 1: Taunt
    move 2: Encore
    move 3: Aqua Jet
    move 4: Frustration
    item: Berry Juice
    nature: Adamant
    evs: 156 HP / 76 Atk / 76 Def / 76 SpD / 76 Spe

    [Set Comments]

    • Here's where Mijumaru shines and Totodile, well, doesn't. This set works well against leads that use hazards
    • If the lead against you is slower than you, Taunt them
    • If the lead against you is faster than you, Encore them. It should be noted that using Encore against Spikes leads may not be wise, unless a majority of your team is immune to Spike damage
    • Aqua Jet for finishing off Pokemon
    • Frustration is your basic "high-power" move. Nobody could love Mijumaru except its mother, so its the perfect move
    [Additional Comments]

    • Not much to say. It works best with set up Pokemon, like Dragon Dance Zuruggu or Nasty Plot Zorua
    • If you really want to be a jerk, you can use Copycat to try and copy the opponent's Stealth Rock or Spikes
    [Team Options]

    • Grass-types work well with Mijumaru, so Teshiido, Snover, Treecko and Shikijika are excellent temmates
    • The first two sets appreciate Stealth Rock and Spikes support, so Ishizumai is a great team member
    • The Swords Dance set loves having screens up. Bronzor and Tsutarja are excellent screeners to use alongside Mijumaru
    [Optional Changes]

    • It has Air Slash and X-Scissor as other offensive options
    • Shell Blade, Aqua Tail or Waterfall could be used as physical options aside from Aqua Jet
    • Screech is an interesting option, but Swords Dance is almost always superior
    [Counters]

    • Teshiido is Mijumaru's top counter. It can paralyze it with Thunder Wave or go for the KO with Bullet Seed
    • Croagunk can switch in on Water-type attacks and hammer Mijumaru with priority attacks
    • Bronzor can take pretty much anything Mijumaru throws at it, but can't do much back to it either
    • The Lead set is better countered by simply switching out, since Mijumaru will usually use either Taunt or Encore the first turn
    [Dream World]

Shell Armor is cool on the lead set, but the other sets are better off with that occasional chance of boosting its STAB.

Same speed as toto, 1 less attack and 2 less defense, same hp and SpD, and 2 more SpA. This leads me to believe the only sets that aren't outclassed are swords dancer with encore and a mixed set with aqua jet (chinchou and staryu for example do straight up special better). Hell, poliwag has encore and belly drum, but it lacks aqua jet so that's one thing going for it. Surprisingly enough, this pokemon sucks at everything! (what a shocker!) Well... I guess it can hope for lc's version of nu at least!

    Oya, well written analyses. GJ

    I jest.

In all honesty, the Swords Dance set is really outclassed by Totodile. The strongest move you have on there is Frustration, which is really meh. Sticking Shell Blade or something on there would help a lot, unless you can prove that it isn't needed.

The other sets look fine, the LOtter set really shows how important priority is in LC :p

Shell blade doesn't have much use on a sd set. If it can't 2hko something after a boost (and their poke can't ohko it back), you have issues. That said, it could potentially have use on a non-booster physical set... But that set would suck. Also, 95 accuracy is trollish.

Outclassed sets should be included....but why isn't the most useful move for a stat booster the main option? Encore is far better than any of those other attacks.

Change the title of the thread to Oshawott, that's its English name, whether you like it or not.

However, please remember to sneak the word "Mijumaru" in somewhere so that someone who searches "Mijumaru" will still find the page.

When the English version is released, I will change it to Oshawott. Since PO still refers to it as Mijumaru and only the Japanese version is released, it seems more logical to keep the name as is.

Nitpick: the lead set encoring spikes isn't really a good idea. For the less savvy among us. For clarification. The centipede and the hermit crab and Snorunt and Budew outspeed.

Well, its design IS unappealing, but be fair, it's not THAT bad. :0 It's certainly no Bidoof. >.>

Why wouldn't you use Night Slash here too? :0 Doesn't Water/Dark still get superior neutral coverage to Water/normal?

I guess the question is would you rather hit Carvanha NVE, who has defenses like wet paper and dies to everything anyway, or be completely walled by Water Absorb Pururiru. :0

Monozu is another Water/Dark resist. With a Choice Scarf he reaches 21 speed, outrunning Oshawott and threatening with a Hustle boosted, STAB Outrage. He also can also take an Aqua Jet with 22/11/11 defenses and dragon-typing. I believe he warrants mention in the Counters section...

I use Hydro Pump on the lead set over Frustration, as it's far more powerful.
