OP Stolen from Twix / Approved by scpinion and Dream Eater Gengar / Art by The Excadrill

This thread is to allow all monotype players to share cool sets and ideas they have seen or made in the metagame. The idea is to not only increase the usage of unique sets in monotype but also to showcase how less used pokemon can be adapted for the monotype metagame. Below states what it means to have a creative or underrated set within the monotype metagame. Any post that is considered a gimmick will not be tolerated in the thread and deleted.

1. What is a creative moveset?
A) It has not previously been widely used.
B) It successfully pulls off a role, and is not strictly outclassed by other Pokemon in that role.
C) It takes advantage of metagame trends.
D) It has had some success. Post replays / logs to strengthen your case.

2. What is an underrated moveset?
A) It is an existing set that for whatever reason isn't common.
B) Its use is meant to prey on specific facets of the metagame.
C) It might be able to surprise and demolish Pokemon that normally counter the usual sets, but does not become a bad gimmick in order to do so.

3. What constitutes a good post?
1) Have a good description of the set.
2) Having relevant calcs to go along with the post.
3) Why did you use this set over the standard set?
4) Showing replays of the set in action.

Example Taken from Acast :

Jirachi @ Assault Vest
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpA / 8 SpD
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Psyshock
- Moonblast
- Energy Ball
- Charge Beam / Flash Cannon / Thunderbolt

My Steel team used to struggle a lot with Water. Ferrothorn wasn't working out for me as much as I wanted it to and Magnezone was always walled by the Water/Ground types. Infernape and Keldeo on Fighting were also serious concerns I had, and what Steel team doesn't have issues with Hydreigon? Sure, Scarf Rachi can probably work just as well against those threats, but I refused to ditch my Scarf Excadrill and I'd rather not have two scarf users. Not to mention I wanted Jirachi to be able to switch moves, so my AV Rachi set was born.

KEY: Green=Jirachi is attacking the opponent. Red=The opponent is attacking Jirachi.

Psyshock is your generic special STAB that deals with Infernape and Keldeo.
252 SpA Life Orb Infernape Fire Blast vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Assault Vest Jirachi: 265-315 (65.7 - 78.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ SpA Jirachi Psyshock vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Infernape: 318-374 (108.5 - 127.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Choice Specs Keldeo Hydro Pump vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Assault Vest Jirachi: 178-210 (44.1 - 52.1%) -- 14.1% chance to 2HKO
252 SpA Choice Specs Keldeo Secret Sword vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Jirachi: 207-244 (51.3 - 60.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252+ SpA Jirachi Psyshock vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Keldeo: 260-308 (80.4 - 95.3%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

Moonblast is mainly for Hydreigon, but it helps against other Dragons too.
252+ SpA Life Orb Hydreigon Dark Pulse vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Assault Vest Jirachi: 242-289 (60 - 71.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ SpA Jirachi Moonblast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Hydreigon: 416-492 (128 - 151.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Energy Ball is great coverage, but it's especially useful for Water/Ground types and Rotom-W.
252+ SpA Jirachi Energy Ball vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Swampert: 392-464 (97 - 114.8%) -- 81.3% chance to OHKO
252+ SpA Jirachi Energy Ball vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Quagsire: 508-600 (128.9 - 152.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Rotom-W Hydro Pump vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Assault Vest Jirachi: 102-121 (25.3 - 30%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
252+ SpA Jirachi Energy Ball vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Rotom-W: 170-200 (56.1 - 66%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Charge Beam makes use of Jirachi's Serene Grace to give it a 100% chance to boost SpA. I've always loved the Serene Grace Charge Beam combo, but in the past I only ever used it on AV Meloetta. Personally I prefer Charge Beam, but Flash Cannon is fine if you'd rather have a secondary STAB move instead and Thunderbolt is a better option if you strictly want Electric coverage and aren't interested in boosting.

Replay showing AV Jirachi at its best: http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/monotype-306635458

This set is particularly helpful against Water teams, which Steel can sometimes struggle with. However, it can also be useful against many of Steel's biggest threats, as shown by the calcs above.

4. What are some things that constitute a bad gimmick?
A) Using a Pokemon that has no business being used in Monotype, for the sake of using it (Spinda / Feebas).
B) Movesets that are inferior and ineffective compared to existing movesets (e.g. Swords Dance Venusaur), or using an obscure move for the sake of hitting an even more obscure check or counter.
C) Movesets that are utterly impractical or are horribly outclassed by another Pokemon (e.g. Belly Drum Slowbro).
D) A bad gimmick is not limited to the above, though. The moderator team and I will use our best judgment to determine which sets should be deleted
E) If your set has been brought up multiple times and rejected for being a gimmick it will be listed in the Gimmicky/Rejected Sets in the OP

If you have a question about the thread VM me on Smogon and or pm me on Showdown, my username is iExca

SubDisable Salazzle (any variants of this set)

From now on (August 12th 2018) every submission to this thread will be responded to in a wave. If the submission is infact Creative and or Underrated it will be approved, however if it is a common set or unviable I will provide an explanation to why the set was not improved. Please also provide replays and a proper description of what the unique set does whether its the EVs, what it techs with a surprise move, etc.

The unforeseen savant of Monotype Normal. Conversion-Z has given a new breath of life to mono normal as it allows it to beat many types it struggled with/struggles with. The first move dictates the type you take so depending on team comp select the most important one. I personally prefer Psychic as it really puts in work v/s fighting and can help vs water as well.

When I was laddering and playing various people and room tours I found Magearna often being used with Shift Gear and Specs but never Trick Room.

Ability: Soul-Heart

IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Spe

In experimenting with Gen 7 Fairy I found a very nice set that allows Magearna to take advantage of its natural speed and provide great support to its team. Trick Room Magearna provides a very nice way for Fairy to take advantage of the tons of old and new powerful slower pokemon such as Tapu Bulu, itself and Azumarill. It also proves to be a even better tr setter with volt switch as the next turn it can safely pivot into another pokemon. This set allows Magearna to almost autowin against so many types such as Rock, Ice, Dragon, Dark and Fairy.

You thought it was impossible. That NO ONE could be dumb enough to try to play Rock after how bad it got nerfed. Now, it is time to show my ultimate creation.

Fire punch? (Golem-Alola) @ Expert Belt
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 184 Atk / 160 SpA / 164 Spe
Naughty Nature
- Wild Charge
- Stone Edge
- Fire Blast
- Earthquake

So, we all know how Rock handles Scizor and Mega Scizor. (That is to say, it doesn't)
In comes THIS guy. Since we don't have Pokebank yet to confirm whether we can breed regular Golem with a Female Alolan Golem to get an Alolan Golem, A-Golem doesn't get Fire Punch yet. This means it has to run Fire Blast to fulfill it's steel-trapping duties.

With the given spread, Golem will outspeed Max speed Adamant Mega Scizor after sticky webs, and with the given Sp. atk, it will also OHKO it with Fire blast. Alongside this, it has an enormous chance to OHKO Max HP scizor after SR. Even with no bulk, Golem will ALWAYS survive a +2 Bullet Punch, as long as you don't get crit.
If you're willing to give up a bit more Attack, you can also speedcreep Skarmory, but I don't find it necessary since Skarmory isn't doing much vs you.

As a bonus, this set still puts in work vs Balanced water after the Electric inmunity is gone, and also traps Celesteela AND Skarmory, making the Flying matchup much easier.
Notable partners are Air Balloon Omastar, which helps handle it's Ground and Excadrill weakness, and obviously Shuckle.

160 SpA Expert Belt Golem-Alola Fire Blast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Scizor-Mega: 298-355 (106 - 126.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO
160 SpA Expert Belt Golem-Alola Fire Blast vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Scizor-Mega: 298-355 (86.8 - 103.4%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
184+ Atk Expert Belt Golem-Alola Wild Charge vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Skarmory: 202-238 (60.4 - 71.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
184+ Atk Expert Belt Golem-Alola Wild Charge vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Celesteela: 245-290 (61.5 - 72.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

252+ Atk Choice Band Technician Scizor Bullet Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Golem-Alola: 129-153 (42.8 - 50.8%) -- 2% chance to 2HKO (Bug)
+2 252+ Atk Technician Scizor-Mega Bullet Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Golem-Alola: 192-226 (63.7 - 75%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Oh! I was wondering if you'd seen my post here. The set I originated is pretty similar. I quite like it so far. As far as I know, it's the most effective use of a Z-Crystal on Fairy I've tried (I like it much more that Z-Belly Drum). The only thing I've noticed is that Aura Sphere seems to be a much better option than Volt Switch. The more I used the set, the more I was dissatisfied with Magearna's coverage without Aura Sphere or Focus Blast and the situations where one of the aforementioned moves would have been useful were far more common that those in which Volt Switch was (at least for me). One thing I would like to test is if Fightinium Z with Aura Sphere/Focus Blast might be a viable option over Fairium Z. Might be able to grab some harder to nab Soul-Heart boosts? Have you tried anything similar?

At any rate, I really love the set. I have a bunch of replays I posted here to attest to how effective it is (both with Volt Switch and Aura Sphere/Focus Blast).

I did see your post there but i had been using tr lo since like the beginning of SM. The aura sphere is pretty nice but Volt Switch is really nice on TR magearna as it can easily switch out to a better sweeper for that team while keeping momentum.

I want to know what people think of this Tapu Koko, since now that Terrain Extender is banned, this set has a lot of potential.

Tapu Koko @ Flyinium Z
Ability: Electric Surge
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Wild Charge
- U-turn
- Brave Bird
- Mirror Move

Flyinium Z is a terrific item on the set, because it boosts two moves. Z-Mirror Move doubles your attack, and THEN mirrors the last attack/move the oponnent used against you in its Z variant. Meaning, if someone uses Return and you Z-Mirror it, you return the hit with +2 Breakneck Blitz. It also boosts Brave Bird should that be required more, and gives Electric yet another way to effectively deal with Mega Venusaur. U-turn works well on Electric teams, having no immunities, though Taunt is another option to ensure the oponnent attacks you, if it's a stallmon.

Calcs:

252 Atk Tapu Koko Supersonic Skystrike (190 BP) vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Mega Venusaur: 316-374 (86.8 - 102.7%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

OR +2 252 Atk Tapu Koko Brave Bird vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Mega Venusaur: 400-472 (109.8 - 129.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Some more:

+2 252 Atk Tapu Koko Wild Charge vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Mega Metagross in Electric Terrain: 286-337 (94.7 - 111.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

252 Atk Weavile Icicle Crash vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Tapu Koko: 151-178 (53.5 - 63.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
after it gets mirrored its: +2 252 Atk Tapu Koko Subzero Slammer (160 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Weavile: 226-267 (80.4 - 95%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

252+ SpA Tapu Lele Moonblast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Tapu Koko: 216-255 (76.8 - 90.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
after it gets mirrored its: 0- SpA Tapu Koko Twinkle Tackle (175 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Tapu Lele: 144-171 (51.2 - 60.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Even with a very specially bulky Pokemon like Tapu Lele, and even with 0 SpA EVs and a hindering nature, it manages to seriously dent it.

Don't have enough replays to post, but I'll edit it soon if the interest is there.

After testing Fighting quite a bit, I have been quite fond of this set in particular.

Kommo-o @ Life Orb
Ability: Bulletproof
EVs: 28 Def / 252 SpA / 228 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Autotomize
- Clanging Scales
- Focus Blast
- Flamethrower

The speed is for outspeeding Scarf Latios at +2, max special attack for obvious reasons, and the rest in defense. Fighting teams love the resistances that this thing gives and can wallbreak things for Kommo-o so it can potentially clean late-game. Unlike Scrafty, Kommo-o is FAR from set-up fodder and hits quite hard too.

I'll do calcs and replays later when I have time.

Shoutouts to Dece1t for giving me this set.

been having loads of fun with the following set on Steel-teams:

KNOCK YOU DOWN (Jirachi) @ Life Orb
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Psychic
- Energy Ball / Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ground]
- Healing Wish

it lures in a lot of things that Jirachi normally struggles to beat, for example it completely dicks on Water Stall, lures in Heatran, and also provides a nice way of supporting the rest of the team with Healing Wish. I originally wanted something that could HW back up AV Magearna after it was forced to take a couple of hits from say.. Zapdos / Tapu Koko. They work pretty well together tbh. You can opt for Thunderbolt > Energy Ball if you run Bloom Doom Heatran but i'd stick with Energy Ball really since it gets so many more surprise KOs than Thunderbolt does. I can post the team I used it on here as well but I'm not sure if I'm supposed to, so I won't for now.

Here's a set I've been enjoying on water.

Spikes Golisopod (Water)

Golisopod @ Life Orb / Leftovers / Insect Plate
Ability: Emergency Exit
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def
Adamant Nature
- First Impression
- Spikes
- Aqua Jet / Sucker Punch
- Liquidation / Leech Life

Golisopod already acts as a meaty check to opposing Grass, Dark, and Psychic; but now it can make use of the switches it forces with it's powerful priority, First Impression, to set additional layers of spikes on a team that might not otherwise have them.

Also offers Water a Ground resist, which covers Lanturn and Toxapex nicely.

Buzzwole @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Moxie Beast Boost
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 SpE
Jolly Nature
- Superpower
- Earthquake
- Thunderpunch
- Ice Punch

Been caping pretty hard as to the utility of Scarf Buzzwole. In my experience, the best offensive Bug variants are pretty linear with 3 major objectives: a) set up webs, b) dent major threats with sweepers while keeping rocks off the field, c) clean with Heracross. Where this gameplan often struggles are against types with a large number of defensive threats (Water) or types that Bug just plain struggles with (Flying). Upon looking through the wealth of Bug's offensive offerings, I realized that while I had incredible access to speed, power, and utility, many of our best mons face one major roadblock: coverage.

At first glance, it makes no sense to run it over Scarf Heracross. It's slower, has no truly reliable Fighting STAB it can abuse as both Superpower and Hammer Arm are terrible moves to be locked into, and it doesn't have access to Knock Off or U-Turn. So why run both it at all?

The answer: more immediate power and superior coverage in the elemental punches improve your hardest matchups (imo) against both Water and Flying.

Beast Boost offsets the low base power of the elemental punches, allowing Buzzwole to absolutely murder teams it can hit for supereffective damage. After a Beast Boost, Thunderpunch OHKOs virtually every relevant threat on Water bar the Water/Grounds, and can quickly become a win condition if Sticky Webs in and Toxapex is out.

While Superpower is no Close Combat, the +1 from Beast Boost offsets the attack drop allowing Buzzwole to put a serious dent in anything that doesn't resist as an emergency option. On HO builds, I've found Scarf Buzzwole to be an incredible, if somewhat risky, partner to Scarf Heracross & M-Pinsir, setting the stage for yet another Moxie mon to tear through your opponent's remaining checks.

Though Buzzwole is fast, Galvantula's ability to set webs makes it a critical partner to a Buzzwole sweep attempt, allowing you to outspeed (and likely one-shot) opposing weather sweepers and Scarfers. While 139 base Defense does allow you to shrug off unboosted Aqua Jets and Bullet Punches, this variant can easily cost momentum against players with good prediction, though to a lesser extent than Scarf Heracross. Of course, this variant doesn't have hit as hard as Bulk Up/Band sets, but as with all Scarf Moxie mons, you should generally be keeping Buzzwole in reserve until you're sure you can clean. Though it isn't as consistent as other physical threats on Bug, it more than any other mon has helped me steal games I've had no business winning on the ladder. With the right coverage move at +1, you can either tear through offensive teams, put incredible pressure on defensive teams (helping out a Heracross/Pinsir sweep in the process), or simply pull one last trick out of your bag if you find yourself down significantly. Definitely a threat to watch out for.

I'll jump off of Buzzwole.

Z-Focus Punch Buzzwole (Bug)

Buzzwole @ Fightium Z
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 SpE
Jolly Nature
- Focus Punch
- Earthquake
- Substitute
- Ice Punch / Stone Edge
Now Buzzwole was a Pokemon I wasn't entirely sure how I'd use. I knew I wanted it for the meaty physical bulk to act as an offensive check for threats like Band-Escadrill but I wasn't sure how to work around the lackluster speed and crappy fighting STAB options. I settled on Sub-Punch, a set I quite enjoyed. This set is able to gain momentum and steamroll teams, especially with webs Support.

Fightinium Z is something that helps a lot to give Buzzwole more immediate offensive presence to address threats like Skarmory or Mandibuzz. Z-Focus Punch has 200 power, it's a massive nuke. It's also a decent lure, lulling threats into staying in if they think you can't blitz them without a substitute.

Earthquake and Stone Edge give you excellent edgequake coverage to compliment the massive fighting STAB. Ice punch may be worth running over SE to hit Gliscor and Lando. Leech Life is an option for more passive recovery and better reliable STAB than Focus Punch, although you have to sacrifice some form of valuable coverage to run it.

This set is a happy middle ground between choice scarf/band sets and Defensive bulk up sets, able to abuse powerful fighting STAB to dismantle defensive cores on steel, flying, and so on.

Praise the Death Mosquito \o/

Hello people! I'm here to bless you guys with a really fun and underrated garchomp set that I spammed at the end of Oras and have had success with in the new Generation on ground teams.

Garchomp @ Salac Berry
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Dragon Claw / Outrage
- Swords Dance
- Endure

What if Garchomp got Dd? Unfortunately it doesn't but this is as close as it gets. Once garchomp sd's, not many pokemon can really deal with it other than potential scarfers and mons naturally faster than it. Endure + Salac Berry allows u to live any hit ur opponent tries to revenge kill you with and then proceeds to trigger the salac berry which gives you +1 speed. This set can destroy most of the Meta but unfortunately is walled by togekiss and Skarm / Celesteel. Only real annoying thing is when you set up you usually are at a very low hp amount and can easily be revenged by priority.

I'll share two fun sets I've been utilizing for Fighting and Fairy, respectively.

--- Z-Edge Terrakion ---

Terrakion @ Rockium Z
Ability: Justified
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stone Edge
- Close Combat
- Swords Dance
- Rock Polish / Earthquake

Power where you need it! This set gives Terrakion the wallbreaking power it needs to reliably dispatch defensive threats like skarmory, slowbro, toxapex, Landorus-T and mega-venusaur. Continental Crush is a whopping 180 power Rock attack, and even unboosted is capable to dispatching bulky mons like Tapu Bulu or Buzzwole. Swords Dance pushes it to the point of OHKOing any mon who doesn't resist it (who likely won't take +2 Close Combat nicely either).

From there you can utilize Rock Polish to abuse double dance or EQ to round out your coverage and hit mons like toxapex reliably outside of Z-moves.

--- Trick Room Mimikyu ---

Mimikyu @ Red Card / Ghostium Z
Ability: Disguise
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Trick Room
- Shadow Claw
- Swords Dance / Taunt
- Shadow Sneak

Spoopppy! This is a set I've been utilizing on a TR fairy team to good effect, able to loose off guaranteed TR regardless of the circumstances. Keep in mind however that Mimikyu is not a trick room abuser, but rather a reliable setter and a speedy attacker in it's own right. Max Speed is to ensure you can outspeed Hoopa-U and Nidoking while Ghostium provides the power to nuke Mega-Metagross and other threats.

Shadow Sneak and Swords Dance can be utilized to let Mimikyu Clean after abusers like Tapu Bulu, Sylveon, Magearna have torn apart defensive cores. Taunt however let's you gain momentum on defensive pokemon like Skarmory, Toxapex and Hippodown.

- Fire Blast

There's been a lot of negativity around clefable this gen so far but I personally still think it's still really good and it has been doing wonders for me lately. That being said, this isn't your typical magic guard set. One thing I really like about having unaware, is that it makes using spikes on something like klefki a lot less riskier. You generally have foul play to deal with set up sweepers, but with clef being able to take on things like scizor, opposing azu, etc. a slot in klefki's movepool gets free'd up. Letting the team be able to abuse hazards makes the team I use it on really dangerous and effective and it still can function as a wall. It does less of a job at checking clear cut wall breakers since moonlight has limited bp, but it's able to take on scizor/mega zor and most of the boosting threats I come across, which is all I ask for.

Heatran Lure Victini

Victini @ Choice Band
Ability: Victory Star
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- V-create
- U-turn
- Bolt Strike
- Brick Break

I run this set on my Psychic team, as I have already bred an inherent hatred for Steel teams with Bisharp + Doublade and other annoyances to Psychic, in tandem with Heatran absorbing Fire type moves from Victini, which is usually my win condition vs. Steel teams. This set is designed to lure Heatran and easily 2HKO it, making it easier for Victini to spam its Fire type STAB V-Create later on and also to create mind games on whether the Steel user can risk sending in their Heatran again.

Deoxys-Speed @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature

- Taunt
- Knock Off

I have played with Psychic a bit and found Deoxys-Speed to be pretty underrated as a lead for Psychic type teams. Deoxys also functions as an anti-lead by carrying Taunt it can shut down other status and hazard setters on the opposing team. Being the fastest pokemon even by most scarfers can give Deoxys plenty of time to set hazards. This set works especially well on Hyper Offensive Psychic type teams. Deoxys-Speed can also knock off scarfs that might give the team trouble later on like Victini, Magnezone and Excadrill.

Specs Gothitelle Threat Killer

Gothitelle @ Choice Specs
Ability: Shadow Tag
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 1 Atk
- Hidden Power [Ground]
- Thunderbolt
- Energy Ball
- Trick / Heal Bell

Whenever I want to enjoy a battle using psychic, I always use this gothitelle set. It just helps trap and kill so many threats / annoying walls to psychic that it's satisfying to watch ur opponent's wincon die while you prepare the sweep. Anyways, HP Ground for you guessed it, Heatran! With specs, you are guaranteed the 2hk0 on max/max heatran, and with the speed evs you outspeed most spdef heatran sets. The next move is thunderbolt, which is nice for mantine, skarmory, mandibuzz, slowbro, and more. Energy ball is another great move, as it traps and kills hippowdon, taking sand away from ground teams meaning banded excadrill is no longer much of an issue. Also can take out water absorb mons like gastrodon or seismitoad so that slowbro can always go for the scald. And the last move I use is trick, so that annoying walls like porygon 2, chansey, ferrothorn, and more, are easily cripped and so that gothitelle is not dead weight in other matchups.

Some replays to show what it does
http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen7monotype-496869434 (vs ground - trapping hippo)
http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen7monotype-494386716 (vs fairy - trapping klefki)
http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/azure-monotype-24885 (gen6 vs steel - trapping heatran)

Just here to share a fun set I've been using lately with a good share of success on Hyper Offensive Electric teams. I didn't originally came up with this and iirc Tyke was the one that suggested this to me in the first place, but well here it goes :)

Zapdos @ Life Orb
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 30 Def
- Thunderbolt
- Heat Wave
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Defog

This Zapdos set is meant to work as an offensive Defogger, with the 3 attacks giving it pretty good coverage, especially with the unexpected HP Ice denting some mons like Gliscor, Garchomp and Landorus-T, that usually switch in on Zapdos. This set is also a way to free moveslots on other mons that tend to run HP Ice, like Xurkitree and Tapu Koko. Tailwind is also an option that can be put over one of the coverage moves (A-Golem appreciates the Tailwind support, hitting 414 speed under Tailwind with a +speed nature). Air Cutter may also be an option if you want a Flying STAB (but i haven't tried this yet, so yea). I don't have any replays right now, but I'll definitely post em here when i get good ones.

Edit: Here are some good calcs
252 SpA Life Orb Zapdos Hidden Power Ice vs. 244 HP / 200+ SpD Gliscor: 302-359 (85.7 - 101.9%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
252 SpA Life Orb Zapdos Hidden Power Ice vs. 240 HP / 0 SpD Garchomp: 380-452 (91.1 - 108.3%) -- 81.3% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
252 SpA Life Orb Zapdos Heat Wave vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Excadrill: 372-439 (103 - 121.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Life Orb Zapdos Heat Wave vs. 252 HP / 224+ SpD Jirachi: 192-229 (47.5 - 56.6%) -- 84.4% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

Been playing Psychic mono for a while now, and this thing is insane. It can't touch Dark teams, but pretty much any other type it can succeed against.
Find a chance to set up, which isn't too hard with Prism Armor and your great natural defense. I usually start with Iron Defense unless there's powerful Ghost/Bug special attackers left. Stack boosts as fast as you can, healing when need be, then let rip with massively powerful Stored Powers.
Note: get rid of every dark type on the opposing team before even attempting set up, of course. Not that it stopped this guy with a T-Tar from ragequitting.

- Megahorn
- Poison Jab
- Earthquake

Poison, for the longest time has used banded scolipede as a wincon against psychic but a few pokemon just ruined its day by living a hit and returning with Thunder Wave such as Jirachi. This set outclasses Band by far as it locks itself into one move the entire time but on this you get the immediate power of band, sd and a combonation of coverage that makes Scolipede one annoying threat to take down. Literally once it gets a +2 up nothing can stop it on Psychic including one of poison's biggest threats in Mega Metagross. This set doesn't fear Scarf Victini because its Jolly so u u can be less careful while setting up. Usually Scolipede sets up and SD on a forced switch or defensive pokemon. SD boosted Savage Spin Out hits a little harder than 2x the power of a banded Megahorn!
+2 252 Atk Scolipede Megahorn vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Slowbro-Mega: 486-572 (123.3 - 145.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+2 252 Atk Scolipede Megahorn vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Jirachi: 517-609 (127.9 - 150.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+2 252 Atk Scolipede Megahorn vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Metagross-Mega: 363-427 (120.5 - 141.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO
The base power for these 3 calcs above was changed to 190 for Buginium Z Megahorn.
+2 252 Atk Scolipede Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Victini: 362-428 (106.1 - 125.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Would like to share a fun set of my forgotten type, Ice. I didn't create it but I modified it and used it with much success in ORAS and have now modified it again for SM. Was also part of the winning Ice team in Cycle 4 of the SM Teambuilding Competition.

TeraVolt Killer Kyurem-Black (Ice)

Kyurem-Black @ Babiri Berry
Ability: Teravolt
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Rash Nature
- Ice Beam
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Earth Power
- Fusion Bolt

As implied by the name, the purpose of this set is to abuse Kyurem-Black's useful ability in Teravolt and that decent base 120 Special Attack. This is a total departure from the generic Physical-based Choice Scarf Sweeper as I believe Ice has other capable Physical Offense mons like Weavile and Mamoswine. It doesn't hurt that the effectiveness of this set can be best demonstrated vs Steel - the worst match-up that Ice has.

The given EV's allow Kyu-B to hit as hard as possible, with either Rash or Naive working fine depending on whether you want the max speed or higher power.

Ice Beam is strong STAB which destroys most things weak to ice and dents neutral threats hard, like Skarmory. With Teravolt, it OHKO's Multiscale Dragonite and heavily dents Thick Fat Mega Venusaur. It also destroys Solid Rock + Weakness Policy Rhyperior.

Hidden Power Fire is used to check both regular and Mega Scizor, with the aid of Babiri Berry. With Teravolt, HP Fire OHKO's Forretress preventing it from spinning away rocks or setting up rocks; it also breaks Heatran's Air Balloon on the switch so it can be finished off with Earth Power. Hidden Power fire is also the only Fire-type coverage that viable Ice types have access to. As such it can be used to hit opposing mons like Ferrothorn, Durant, Abomasnow, etc.

Earth Power is used to hit Rock/Steel/Fire types hard. With Teravolt, it heavily dents Rotom-Wash and Rotom-Heat, which are big threats to Ice. It also OHKO's another huge Ice threat in Sturdy Magnezone with Babiri Berry saving it from Scarf Magnezone on Electric (If facing Magnezone on Steel, you need to scout whether it's Specs or Scarf first because you need to keep the Babiri intact while Scizor is still alive). It can also be used to dent the dangerous Choice Band Sand Rush Excadrill on ground - with the Babiri Berry - living any one hit (from full HP) and denting it hard.

Fusion Bolt is used to hit Water types hard. Most notably, Mantine. With Teravolt, it can also freely hit Lanturn / Thundurus-T on the switch and finish off with Earth Power and Ice Beam respectively.

Inferno Overdrive Volcarona

Volcarona @ Firium Z
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest / Timid Nature
- Quiver Dance
- Fire Blast
- Giga Drain
- Bug Buzz / HP Ground

Do you enjoy stupid power, z-moves, and oversized silkbugs? Ever hate having your sweep checked by a Garchomp or an Alolan Muk or pestered by a Mega-Venusaur? No more! Try Z-Fire Blast today and bust through checks using sheer determined firepower. Z-Fire Blast is a tremendous 185 BP, STAB boosted nuke that is extremely difficult for all but immunities and 4x resists to live through. Abuse it on Fire with Sun support; you'll be amazed how little can handle an Inferno Overdrive doused in Vitamin D.

Check these stupid calcs.

As you can see, none of these KOs are possible with any of Volcarona's other moves at +1, and all of these threats are able to KO or cripple Volcarona if not dispatched. This is the valuable niche Firium-Z offers over Lum Berry as a held item.

There's some wiggle room with the set: you can run Timid to avoid playing 50/50s with Protect Mega-Sharpedo and Scolipede, outspeed scarf excadrill, and speed tie Victini, though doing so sacrifices guaranteed OHKOs on a fair number of pokemon (Gyarados, Mega-Zard X, Togekiss, etc). You can use a Bulkarona spread and abuse your capacity to rack up more Quiver Dance boosts. Even Z-Fiery Dance isn't out of the question, as it sports a respectable 160 BP as well and is more compatible with aforementioned bulky sets.

All in all, this set is able to completely blow back common offensive and defensive checks and clear the path for either it, or Zard-X to sweep.
