Pokemon Matchmaking - Monotype Edition!

Approved by scpinion and Dream Eater Gengar | Looking for a new banner | OP adapted from my Underused Matchmaking thread

All Pokemon are unable to function effectively without their checks and counters gone, which is where their teammates come in. These partners are capable of dismantling multiple Pokemon proving a threat to their teammates, providing invaluable support and thus are often seen as the heart of the team.
This project aims to brainstorm various ideal and effective partners to various Pokemon in a single type that may range from metagame defining Pokemon to more underrated threats.

Procedure

Every week, I will nominate a Pokemon for discussion of potential partners and submissions. If the Pokemon happens to be dual typed, I will specify what type I am looking for from the partners. For example, if I nominate Keldeo, I will specify that week that I am looking for good Water or Fighting partners that pair well with it. In that week, you will have the chance to submit any good partners for that chosen Pokemon, and after the course of the week I will put it to a vote for the best partner(s) for that chosen Pokemon and put it into the archive. People that manage to get into the archive multiple times with good submissions will be let into the Hall of Fame.

Rules

1. Stick with things high up on the viability rankings. Pokemon such as Mienshao and Vaporeon which are considered very niche should not be nominated at all.
2. Reservations are perfectly welcome. However, in your reservation post you must state when you will be able to get your reservation done. This time frame must be no longer than 12 hours. After this time has expired, other users can take your reservation and do it for themselves. If you do not state a time frame your reservation expires in exactly two hours.
3. Don't theorymon. Post Pokemon that you have experience with, or have seen it have quite some use, don't pull Pokemon out of thin air that you think will work well. Have some experience first please.
4. Explain how and why the Pokemon you chose works well. For example, offensive synergy in terms of wearing down each other's checks and counters or defensive synergy in terms of checking threats to the specified type.
5. Be nice to others with your posts and only post meaningful things. One-liners clutter up the thread, as do random memes.
6. Calcs are nice, but not compulsory.
7. Enjoy :)
8. ONE PARTNER PER POST PLEASE!!!

Charizard is a pretty solid teammate for Dragonite and they break each other's checks pretty reliably. Dragonite can take out some of Charizard's checks including Chansey, Heatran, and Goodra as well as offer ExtremeSpeed support to give Charizard an easier time cleaning. Additionally, Charizard can break Dragonite's checks including Hippowdown, bulky waters, Klefki, Ferrothorn, Scizor, etc. The core by itself is sort of slow, leaving it open to the Lati twins and fast Electric-types and Ice Types such as Raikou and Weavile, so Pokemon like Zapdos, Scarf Landorus, and Skarmory can help out.

Thundurus (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid / Naive Nature
- Grass Knot / Nasty Plot / Thunder Wave / Taunt / Knock Off
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Focus Blast / Superpower

Overall Thundurus does a good job at crippling many reliable Dragonite checks through its great coverage. Another thing is It can render a threat to Dragonite useless by utilizing its Prankster Thunder Wave to make up for Dragonite's mediocre Speed tier. Thundurus can also act as a setup sweeper to wall break anything that might pose a threat to Dragonite. As a result the core works well together but is slightly week against certain walls the core can't cover.

Zapdos @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 248 HP / 152 SpD / 108 Spe
Calm Nature
- Discharge
- Defog
- Roost
- Toxic

While there are a good offensive partners to Dragonite to remove obstacles the it might not be able to break, this is more of a defensive partner due to the fact that Zapdos can provide support through Defog to keep Dragonite's Multiscale intact so that it can do its job to the best of its ability. Aside from Defog support to increase Multiscales life span, Zapdos can help by breaking defensive mons also with the application of Toxic. Even if they run a healing move, it will prevent them from being able to sufficiently wall Dragonite unless they have Natural Cure or the team has a Heal Beller.

Discharge can also come in handy with the 30% Paralysis rate which is especially useful if you run Band Dragonite as it will appreciate the chance to outspeed the opposing Pokemon outside of just spamming Extreme Speed. Overall the Bulk and utility of Zapdos can help Dragonite perform various roles to its maximum potential whether it be Lum/DD or Banded.

Skarmory @ Custap Berry
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Spikes
- Tailwind
- Brave Bird

This suicide lead Skarmory set is tailored to, rather than give Dragonite an opportunity to tank a hit with Multiscale by taunting hazard layers, give Dragonite an opportunity to punch 2-3 holes in offensive teams with Tailwind. I tried using this for a Core Challenge, and it quickly became my favorite set on HO Flying for all the support it can give banded Dragonite, as well as allow teammates like Landorus-I, Charizard-Y, and Landorus-I to punch holes in offensive teams.

Hazards are to help Dragonite get more kills, and Brave Bird is to help Skarmory possibly kill himself if a mon doesnt attack it on the Tailwind turn, as well as allow it to possibly soften up a mon for Dragonite to clean.

Mega Gyarados is a perfect switch-in for basically all of Dragonite's checks, as it resists Ice and is neutral to Rock in its mega form, and is hit neutrally by Fairy attacks before mega evolving and is hit neutrally by Dragon type attacks before and after mega evolving. This set is especially good at tanking hits and retaliating back by setting up and sweeping teams. The types that Mega Gyarados has a tough time sweeping against, Dragonite can easily break, and vice-versa. All in all, Mega Gyarados and Dragonite are really good Offensive and Defensive partners. :]

Taunts common Dragonite switchins such as Skarmory, Mandibuzz, and Heatran, preventing them from setting Stealth Rocks too. Aerial Ace is STAB, Aqua Tail hits Heatran easily, while Fire Fang hits Ferrothorn and Mega Scizor if you decide to run Earthquake on Dragonite. Roost is needed for recovery to threaten Fighting and Flying types more easily.

Give me credit for my set you cheat

Well, it's near similar than Ridley's set but I post it like this set is very good in my Flying team.

Gyarados-M helps a lot flying team to beat alone some types like Normal, Psychic (when you send it in the good moment).
He absorbs Ice move and all special dragon moves easily. (Latios, Latias, Hydreigon by example).
That's why I use Crunch instead Waterfall.
Fighting moves are checked by Dragonite like bug moves.

Crunch is, in my opinion, better than Waterfall because it helps flying type to hit better Dragon (who is considered like a bad matchup for flying).

Landorus @ Life Orb

Naive Nature

- Focus Blast
- Sludge Wave

With it's amazing coverage moves backed by Sheer Force, Landorus is an amazing Pokemon to go well with Dragonite. Focus Blast and Earth Power both help the steel match up, killing Both Skarmory and Heatran and leaving Dragonite with a choice to spam Fire Punch or Earthquake if it's banded or Dragon Dance and Fire Punch if it's not. Sludge Wave and Earth Power help against Dragonite's not so favorable match up being Fairy as Fairy has little against Landorus. Knock Off is mainly for the Normal Core of Chansey and Porygon 2 as it lower's it's defenses by removing the eviolite, allowing Draognite to either spam Outrage or Super Power if Banded, or set up a Dragon Dance and Spam Outrage. It can also help alleviate the Psychic match up as nothing really wants to take a combination of Knock Off and Earth Power on Psychic besides Mew if it's not Defensive orientated. This core is good against most match ups but looses to things like Thundurus T and I, Mega Diancie after Rocks, Scarf Kyurem Black, and Latios.

Taunt DD Gyara: The support taunt gyra can provide dragonite makes the duo an extremely deadly wall breaking core for offensive flying teams. The main idea behind offensive flying is to just get rocks up ASAP and then go to town just like any other offensive type. Taunt gyara does a really nice job at beating a majority of the spinners in the tier and being able to lure in defoggers like skarmory, zapdos, and mandibuzz and being able to taunt them. you can just kill zap but with mandi and skarm you can lure them both in and taunt them after ur initial DD as they will more than likely want to get rocks off to keep their team healthy. After you taunt you can just presume to smash away at them and take them out or die trying and cripple them severely enough to not let them be able to defog at any point for the rest of the battle. You have also just taken a main backbone for each of those types (dark and flying) respectively which opens a huge whole for not only dragonite who basically just trains through those builds with rocks up, but the rest of your team as well.

As I said, keeping rocks up for dragonite makes it so much more deadlier which is why I think this gyara set is great with it. It Keeps rocks up, and whole punches the shit out of balance builds.
